Went back to Dave's in Newton again...this time to target their new Mozzarella sticks! I love Chili's hot honey mozzarella sticks and I'm glad I can find them easier now at Dave's. Chili's is hard to find around me. This time I ordered from their new kiosks....and it didn't even print my receipt out, but whatever my order was in on the screen. None of hte workers knew what to do about the machine and lack of a receipt but it didn't bother my order. This location also has a new tv screen with order status based on the platform you ordered from. Helpful. We got the usual, a couple of #2 combos. One of them I got one sandiwch mild and the other spicy but both of them tasted mild or something...it had zero heat at all. Funny thing is, the color of the sandwiches looked normal from all of my many previous orders, but flavor wise, they tasted the same. Weird. Still enjoyed them. The mozzarella sticks - I ordered a 5 pack. I can tell you size wise, they are very similar to the Chili's sticks. The crunch on these from Dave's was crunchier IMHO. However, the cheese is packed less densely here vs Chilis. The cheese pull is just as good on this first try, despite less cheese inside. When I ordered the 5 pack, it allowed only ONE spice level option. I wish I could've gotten some medium and some spicy etc. Not very sharing friendly. The staff was super friendly as usual. No problem getting my order and extra sauce packets etc. The place continues to look clean and well maintained. This location and framingham are my 2 fave locations for Dave's. read more

The chicken is definitely hot. The menu features chicken strips - all fried. Because each order is custom made, it takes time to prepare the food. I think I waited 10 minutes to be served. I think the thing to do is call in your order rather than waiting for the chicken tenders to be prepared. They have high ceilings with lots of windows so the place is really bright. There is plenty of of seating. The shape of the restaurant is such that there is seating separated from the main dining area so there is more seating than meats the eye. I would return. read more

I think this location has had the most spicy chicken tender from any restaurant I've tried. I was actually surprised how much my mouth was burning. Besides that, the chicken was super tender and fresh. The pickles and crunchy fries tasted amazing. Was hooked up with some extra Dave's sauce which was plus. I also ordered a side of coleslaw which was so good. It gives the meal a nice crunch. If you don't get the HONEY you ain't doing it right!! I have to say, Dave's Chicken has been a huge disappointment. The texture of the chicken is terrible. It's so tough to pull apart, almost as if it hasn't been cooked properly. Are we talking medium-well chicken here? This is the second time I've eaten chicken from this place, and both times it's left me with excruciating stomach pain. I'm actually concerned it might be causing some sort of foodborne illness because the pain is so severe I feel like I should go to urgent care. I've gotten their sandwich before, however, I first tried it from the Braintree location via Ubereats takeout. Didn't find it to be that good or spicy. Thought maybe it was because I got it takeout + had to heat it back up, that it wasn't that good. Figured trying it fresh in person, I would get a better feel & more fair opinion of their food. I ordered just a spicy chicken sandwich with fries + drink. I didn't find it to be that spicy to be honest but I will note that I eat spicy food pretty often. Let me preface by saying that I'm someone who thinks Buffalo chicken wings are hot. I ordered the medium spice (the middle option out of their scale of 7 possible heat levels ranging from No Spice to Reaper) and it was HOT. So much so that my mouth was on fire and couldn't exactly enjoy the rest of my meal because I was too focused on getting the heat out of my mouth. That being said, if you're someone who loves a chicken sandwich/tender with HEAT, Dave's Hot Chicken will certainly be your place. They do not play games with their heat levels. A terrific fast-casual fried chicken spot! I have heard a co-worker rave about this place, and one Sunday decided to venture out. While it may not be worth a frequent half-hour drive, they are doing their thing right. The menu is kept simple, and the focus is on expertly preparing chicken (well, and fries too). I ordered a single slider, "hot," and a side of fries. A slider is filled with a single tender. As such, it fills just about 75% of the sandwich. Reason enough to get a #3 next time! (#3 = one slider + one tender + a slice of bread) The chicken is hot (temp), fresh, crisp, and breaded perfectly! I always appreciate it when fried chicken isn't mostly breading! The meat was tender and cooked nicely. While not the most succulent chicken I'd had, it still retained ample moisture. The "Hot" loses a bit of heat in sandwich form, but a bit I tried on its own was perfect for my taste. All the more reason to get a #3 next time! While executed with care, I didn't find the chicken mind-blowing. As far as tenders go, it was great. However, as they use a tender, even inside of a slider, it loses some of the moisture a proper (and thicker) fried chicken sandwich would have. The veggies gave a lovely freshness and contrast, and the pickles were great! Finally, the bun seemed fresh and was toasted/griddled to a perfect golden brown! The fries were hot, fresh, crisp, and seasoned perfectly. This can be hard to accomplish with crinkle cut, but they have it down pat. When it came to their special sauce, while it was sweeter than I'd prefer, I found myself ignoring the ketchup and dipping my fries into it instead. The staff here were not just professional but kind and welcoming. I may be primarily coming here to eat, but excellent service is still appreciated. I found the music rather loud. If there were many people, and it should have been audible, no problem. If this were a bar, also, no problem. However, considering this is a fast-casual fried chicken shop, consider turning it a few notches down. Then again, maybe I was just hangry. By the time I devoured the food, I either didn't notice or didn't care. And there's something music volume preferences don't tie into cleanliness. I understand this isn't a sit-down restaurant where tables are wiped down between customers. Yet, I still hope for clean tables upon entering. I did mention this to the staff, who promptly wiped all the tables. The chemical they use did leave the table a bit sticky, but at least I knew it was sanitized. Solid chicken sandwich a bit outside of Boston in Newton! One mix up people may have is to mistake a slider for a small chicken sandwich but it is a decent size for 1 person! We got their slider, some fries, and a strawberry milkshake. To my surprise, since I am not a huge sandwich fan, I was pleasantly surprised by how filling and yummy everything was! And the strawberry milkshake had a pretty good consistency and taste too. Cause, if it was, you've succeeded. However, according to the one in the blue box, 1 cup prepared = 350 calories. Your menu board states that your side rings up at 290 calories. So the bowl ought to have been over 80% full at that rate to rack up that calorie count. But taking math out of the equation, a small cup with a lot of air space hints at a job half done and a certain lack of generosity, especially in comparison to how overfloweth stands the picture of the sample cup on your online menu. I'd have given you the chance to make things right in real time if I had dined in, but I didn't, as my order was placed enroute and picked up to go. If, however, you want to make things right, please start filling your side cups sufficiently for your customers going forward, as each order placed, is indeed a chance to make things right. For this customer and her family, we have tried two flavors of your chicken - no spice and lite mild... and no spice is a better match for our taste buds. We find your chicken thick cut and tender, and pleasantly under-processed. It was juicy enough though the meat is white meat. One of your sliders with the soft potato roll well filled makes for a decent me-sized lunch with the side of fries, though the fries themselves have been unfortunately soft each time we have ordered thus far. Service has ranged in our experience. One visit, our order was delayed, and so the packer asked for it to be expedited. In so doing, the extras were missed (aka no ketchup, honey, utensils... though we did get napkins). We received plenty of ketchup and honey along with the utensils and napkins another time, which more than made up for that previous time. By the way, what's the proper way to handle a pick up here? There are no signs, so I've been stepping to the left after making sure the folks ahead of me were waiting to order, and then made attempts to catch the attention of that bagger fella. That worked once. However, on my most recent visit, he was busy chatting with a coworker inside the kitchen when there were no prepared orders awaiting his attention, and he didn't hear me. Pretty impressed with Dave's Hot chicken... It's not without it's cons but certainly would go back. First, the staff was so friendly. They seemed to be having fun without it impacting the flow of customers and their job. That's the perfect scenario. They were really nice and cool, and still cranking out orders so quickly. There aren't many menu options at Dave's. You get a choice between 3 combo meals. And they're pretty much variations of the same thing. No matter what, it's 2 meaty tenders. Either it's on a dull slice of white bread or a nice pillowy potato roll with pickles and slaw. The choice is clear. Get the #2 combo ALWAYS. 2 chicken sliders sandwiches. You can pick your heat level. I think there's like 7 or 8, so hopefully you find the one that's right for you There are some extra sides like Mac and cheese that I didn't try. The combos seem expensive at $15 per pop without drink. But I will say I was full after downing a side of fries and 2 slider sandwiches. The sliders are like full sized chicken sandwiches. I would wager that their meaty tender is more chicken than the thin patty at Wendy's or McDonald's. Dave's Hot chicken is definitely worth going to. Worth a try! We got two #3s, one medium and one mild. I didn't really think medium was spicy at all so I might level up next time. The chicken is on the darker crispy side which isn't my preference but it was still tender. If you want the best value, I highly recommend getting #2 instead with the two sliders. I think their sauce has a bit too much mayo and needs some acidity to balance. Their fries however were phenomenal and seasoned well. Also bonus points for their tasty pickles! We also got a Mac and cheese for fun - it was only ok. It definitely tasted better before the meal but after eating the chicken, the Mac became flavorless. Their line is always long but it does move fast. Waiting however took roughly 25 minutes - not something I mind if it is good food but worth nothing if you don't have a lot of time. The next level up and is extra hot and THE REAPER. Next time I go, I will definitely try the Reaper. (They make you sign a waiver lol). Their Dave's sauce is so damn good. Lines were long but it moved fairly quick--they had all registers open and some folks on iPads also checking people in with their orders. The chicken was moist and they have a wide variety of spice levels. I went all in on the reaper and it had good heat and great flavor to it. Might not be for the faint of heart of course. Fries I thought were average. Pickles that come with it I thought the same. What's a bit confusing is when you order a combo, each item you can choose diff level of spice. I love that the menu here is really simple! You basically choose from three options - sliders, tenders, or a combo. I ordered a combo - extra hot slider and reaper tender because I was skeptical about whether the reaper would actually be too spicy to handle. I do enjoy spicy food (for reference, I enjoy buldak hot chicken ramen...) so I decided to give it a shot. The extra hot chicken slider was delicious! Perfect spicy but not burning hot for me. The reaper on the other hand... it was quite spicy after a couple bites. As you can see from the photo, the tender is doused with the reaper spice powder. The sauce also helped with easing the spiciness. For $30 for two, it was a decent meal and very filling. I cannot decide between 3 or 4 stars because the food was definitely good. It was just a little bit more than one meal but not enough to save as a leftover for the next meal. If I were to return, I'd definitely stick with the sliders. I prefer that over the tenders. I hardly ever eat food like this so I went when I was having a bad day to treat myself, and It was so worth it. I got a single hot tender which was pretty big and filling.
