My firm been using Harry and David for several years to send Christmas baskets to our clients. Until this year, the service has been great. However, all that has changed. Because of the amount we spend each year, one of their agents reached out last year and offered free delivery. She gave me the phone number and told me to ask for her personally. When I did this, the request was denied. Further, we had a gift basket to be delivered to Canada. The website showed that we could have this done. I ended up calling customer service and after a 15 minute wait they informed me that this indeed could not be done. Between difficulties with the orders, speaking with HD representatives four times, etc., the whole process took in excess of four hours. When I emailed customer service to let them know what had happened, their response was less than adequate. "Please accept our utmost apologies for the inconvenience that you experienced. Our products and services have always been a source of pride here at Harry & David; however, on rare occasions a problem such as this occurs. We ask for your understanding as this unfortunate occurrence is the exception, and not the rule." Pretty unacceptable to someone who spends well in excess of $1,000/year on gift baskets. My husband ordered a $200 gift basket via two day air that did not arrive on time for his Mother's birthday. Not even close. It then sat on her porch for 3 weeks because they had left for vacation. So my husband called and they said they could not issue a refund but as a courtesy they could send another basket and they gave a promised date for delivery (when his mom would be home again), but that one never even arrived. A second delivery of moldy and bruised organic peaches was received. The first order was moldy and damaged. The organic peaches are supposed to be grown in Southern Oregon but are shipped from a distribution site in Ohio. Obviously, they don't care to make sure a replacement order will be delivered in peak condition given the price paid and the inconvenience and time spent requesting a replacement. Their "guarantee" is worthless and they don't deliver. Harry and David is not to be trusted. They GUARANTEED a special gift would be delivered before 12/24/25. I ordered weeks in advance. I only learned it was never delivered because I followed up with my friend. The gift cannot be replaced now and Harry & David offered nothing but a refund. At a minimum they should have provided a credit equal to the cost of the gift as well as deliver a replacement gift of some kind at a point in the future when it can be delivered. They ruined a special gift and their "guarantee" means nothing. All they will do is send your money back IF you ask them and IF you find out the gift was never delivered. I requested several times to be put in touch with a customer service person capable of making decisions. They refused. Both in product and customer service. I placed an online Christmas order on December 12th. The confirmation showed it would be delivered between the 19th and 23rd of December. Perfect! Fast forward one day, today the 13th of December I receive an email it's been shipped and will arrive tomorrow the 14th. Huh! It's to be consumed on Xmas. What the heck! This "company" is nothing short of fraudulent. I ordered $80 in chocolate cherries on December 11. On December 15 I received a box of rotting pears. After the mandatory 2 hr wait on the phone w customer service, we were apologized to profusely by someone at a call center in the Philippines, and I was told the correct order would be shipped promptly. 2 weeks later, still Nothing. After another 2 hr wait on the customer service line, I was told that the original item wasn't shipped because it wasn't even in stock!! No email, no phone call, just a box of rotting pears. At which point I just ask for a full refund, and am told that a refund cannot be given. I will never use them again. I ordered a wine and pear basket delivery to my friend in St. Helens, OR. They advised me someone would have to be there to sign for the wine. They left it without a signature and said her son signed for it. He hasn't lived there in years. Oh and then the wine came without the pears. I called they said they would reship it. However this year one on the gifts that was "guaranteed" to be delivered by Christmas was not delivered. Their own records confirmed that it was not delivered so it was not a porch pirate. I called them to see what the problem was. Their customer service was less than ideal. Despite having a "guarantee" they did not seem terribly inclined to want resolve the issue. I asked to speak to the manager and the rep said that person was not in but she took my cell # and said the manager would call. Two days later no call so I have to go through the process again. Tried the Soleil Mimosas - my daughter's favorite, but I told her I would only buy it if I did not have to drink, so she passed on it. Today they were also tasting Peter William wines. Peter was actually here, he pulled a hidden reserved bottle for us to sample, not for sale yet. I had to cut my daughter off from this tasting as she was giving me half of hers. Did their blind tasting also, sorry I selected correctly the international wine from Argentina. Additionally, my wife's favorite cotton candy grapes were here. This is where she first discovered them, so we ALWAYS get when passing through. Moose Munch Premium popcorn - they sampled this also, it was so good. Almost forced me to buy, but I resisted on this trip. I usually end up eating all of them. Atmosphere - Buy local, of course made in OR section. Plenty of mall parking. Self service kiosk. Milk Chocolate Moose Munch: This treat combines some of my favorite things. There's popcorn, caramel, and milk chocolate (as well as a small amount of almonds and cashews). Although warm movie theater popcorn from Marcus Theaters is the gold standard for popcorn for me, this premium caramel popcorn from Harry & David is also pretty solid. Each piece is crisp, crunchy, and sweet. The milk chocolate covers maybe 25% of the popcorn pieces, with the remaining 75% being just caramel covered. By far my favorite part of this was the caramel popcorn pieces that also were covered in milk chocolate. This was delicious and rather difficult to put down. Harry & David offer a plethora of other unique flavors that I would like to try, specifically their white chocolate birthday cake. See the list below for some of the other flavors that have me salivating just at the thought of them. I ordered 5 boxes of the organic Royal Riviera Cream of the Crop pears: "weighing nearly a full pound each"!!! The usual Royal Riviera are pictured with 9 to a box whereas this is pictured as 7 pears. I got three boxes with 8 pears and one box with 6 pears. The person who got the 6 pears told me, "Wow! They're huge! So impressive." The other three recipients just thanked me for the pears. Why spend an extra $15 for ho-hum pears that look just like the ones that aren't cream of the crop? Waste of money. Honestly, every year, I swear I will never order from Harry & David's again.There is ALWAYS a problem with the order. That part is okay. For years, whenever there was a problem (wrong order, damaged fruit), I would call customer service and a nice person would help me sort things out. During the pandemic, however, Harry & David's offshored most of their customer service (I had such a disaster that I ended up speaking with a high level manager). I was told to call duing usual business hours to increase odds of getting an American customer service agent. Nope. I spent 40 minutes on the phone with an agent yesterday whose English skills were rudimentary. I kept asking her to get a supervisor since she had no grasp of the situation. Finally got to a manager who agreed that the agent was terribly confused and hadn't understood that they had shipped the wrong thing. Why do I keep buying pears from H&D? Because my 87-year-old mother loves them. Thank heavens she got the box with 6 pears and was delighted. Next year? It took a complaint to the Better Business Bureau and two complaints to Oregon's attorney general to get Harry and David's to delete my account and stop bothering me. This is utterly ridiculous. I've never had an issue with any company in my 61 years like this. They just don't want to cut you loose. They don't have a simple "Close my account" link as of today, unless they had the sense enough to put one in. My bank account was being charged an annual fee but their system would not let me delete my account, thus my elevating my complaint to higher powers. I hope they have the problem fixed by now, but it doesn't matter to me, since I won't be back.
