First time my wife and I came to this establishment on one of our date nights. Ordered the French onion soup (strongly recommend it) to start and it was so delicious! The bread was amazing as well. Their signature "Cola" drink with Makers Mark was great. My wife ordered the filet (well done, which pains me every time) and I ordered the rack of lamb (medium rare) with their house red skin potatoes. For dessert, my wife has the creme brûlée and Brad (our amazing and courteous server) recommended I try the sugar creme pie. Was greatly pleased with both. I strongly recommend this restaurant!! I've been to Harry and izzys downtown many times, this visit to North was probably my 5th time at this location. Ordered from the Devour Indy menu. The appetizers were great as usual. My ribeye med rare was lukewarm at best. Much tougher than what I've come to know from Izzys. Possibly the grade of steak is a little less for Devour Indy? Looking for a finer dining experience? This is the place to go! I visited this location for the first time with a group of coworkers and had a great time. Our server, Stacy, was attentive and prompt, and remembered almost everything for our group of 10 people. For appetizers, the world famous shrimp cocktail is famous for a reason, it's very tasty and has a nice kick to it. Your eyes will water, your nose will burn, you'll feel like death for 5 seconds and then it'll all be worth it. The toasted ravioli are delicious and cheesy. The calamari is tender and crispy, and the Asian shrimp are a little sweet and probably my favorite. The bacon appetizer was a little difficult to eat for me, but the bread it came with was pretty good. I ordered the NY strip with orange and brandy sauce. The steak was a huge portion, definitely enough for 3 people to eat and be full. It was tender and the flavor of the meat was decent, but that sauce? overpowering! It was interesting in flavor, definitely not bad, but I could've eaten much more of my steak if it wasn't drowned in that stuff. Definitely get the sauce on the side if you're gonna try it. This sauce is the only reason my review gets four stars, I literally couldn't handle the flavor anymore to keep eating my meal. I had the red skin mashed potatoes as a side and they were good. Nothing to write home about, but a nice complement to the meal. My supervisor ordered onion rings and they were also nice in texture and flavor. You could taste the onion and the breading without too much of either flavor overpowering the other. I had room for dessert since I only ate a third of my meal. I ordered the cheesecake with raspberry purée and it's honestly the best cheesecake I've ever had. And for only $10, I may go back just for that! It was about 2 inches tall and a nice size in width. I usually order 2 of the filet sliders which are - melt in your mouth - perfectly cooked medallion size portions of their filet mignon. My mouth is still watering. And a side of their redskin mashed potatoes. I've never had mashed potatoes with soooo much flavor (well not including my homemade mashed potatoes of course) I finished the meal with their creme brulee, again cooked to perfection, and a cup of Hubbard and Cravens decaf coffee. I did have a slight issue with my meal which was the reason for my 4 stars instead of 5 but it was quickly remedied by the amazing manager. Great steakhouse. Great service. Been here a few times. Loved the NY Strip. Love the mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. The shrimp is incredible as appetizers. Can't go wrong with dessert choices of cheesecake, brownie, or creme brûlée. My wife loved our last visit here. We came during her birthday and she got a free dessert. They have a great gluten-free menu as well and are very good about ensuring a gluten-free meal and cooking the food separately to reduce cross-contamination. The manager checked in to discuss their gluten-free options and how they prepare the food in the kitchen. My only word of caution is to avoid the Izzy sauce on the steak. By far the best wedge salad I've ever had! We love to split it and I love that they will split it for you. We love their sliders, but the real show here is the prime rib sandwich or steak burger. Have gone there two times since they lowered the covid restrictions. Both times the staff were thorough with the sanitizing. The food is good and worth the price. Service has been slower than before, but I think that's across the board for every restaurant since there are more procedures in place. The shrimp cocktail still kicks you in the face and the prime rib eye is tender and juicy. read more

We were there for a special occasion/ celebratory dinner for my mother, the food was exceptional but the entire experience was ruined by our abrasive and rude waitress. I am uncertain of the internal tensions that led to this but halfway through our service our waiter came over and stated that his manager had cut him and that he would be replaced by another waitress. She was profoundly impatient and tossed our plates on the table during service spilling food on the table. Overall generally unprofessional. Last two visit to the location have been incredibly underwhelming. Shrimp cocktail was no more than thawed out grocery store bought shrimp, price hadn't changed though. Brussel sprouts were an absolute joke, soggy, over "heated" (microwaved) certainly not crispy, terrible!! However the Filet sliders were good, only reason for the three stars. My first time at Harry and Izzy's, met a friend for lunch. I went to one on north side. It's in a strip mall, so parking is not a challenge. From the front, I always thought it looked small, but that is really deceiving. The staff is very attentive; best I've seen for sometime. It wasn't busy when I was there, so it was quiet. The menu has so many items which looks like it would be amazing. I was tempted but ordered the chicken avo-kale sandwhich. It was delicious. I would get again!! I replaced the fries with fried tomatoes. I'm really picky about tomatoes, these did not disappoint. They put something on the tomato that gives it a unique yummy flavor. I thought I was done then our server mentioned the desserts. How can you pass on famous crème brûlée. I'm sooo glad I ordered one, you can see the vanilla beans in the creme. If you like crème brûlée you have to try this. I'm disappointed I haven't been to this location sooner, it was a pure delight!!! read more

Love love this place!! We come here every year for Labor Day weekend. Yes this place is pricey but so good. When you come here you Of course have to have the famous shrimp cocktail!! I have been to the downtown location once prior, but it's even quite awhile. So when planning a night out for my birthday I thought of the north side location for its better handicapped parking options and more reservation options. It did not disappoint. Our family received excellent service, as you would expect from the "St. Elmo" brand. Our server knew all the specials and what would be the best choices for our dining pleasure. My favorite part of this meal, besides the gorgeous birthday dessert, was that my grandma got to have the exact right portion for her! She always complains about having "too much food" so it was awesome that she could order a cup of soup and one slider and be perfectly sated! Now THAT is a birthday miracle! We came here based on the reviews and large wine list. Our server was extremely polite and very helpful. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, wedge salad, filet, ribeye, side of brussels sprouts, with a bottle of Pinot and an espresso. The shrimp cocktail was extremely oversold and the cocktail sauce was too focused on being heavy on the horseradish that they forgot that flavor matters; it tasted like pure horseradish and really wasn't that much of a burn. The wedge salad was the best part of the meal. The dressing had an amazing flavor and was extremely creamy, and there was plenty of it. Both steaks were very under seasoned and of poor quality; too much sinew in both meats making them overly chewy. At the end of the meal we had an espresso and did not receive any sugar until we asked; then we received sugar without a spoon to stir it in. Where do I begin... For my sisters 23rd birthday my grandparents took my mother, me, and my sister out to dinner. We were seated in a booth right next to 6 women who were very loud and oblivious to the fact others were eating around them. They continued to order drinks without being served any food. My sister asked our waiter(Ben) for some bread, which is usually brought out as soon as one asks. After she notices other tables being brought bread, and waiting over 10 minutes, she asked our waiter one more time if there was a reason why we weren't getting bread but other tables were, when he said that what she said was not true and that they have been baking fresh bread ever since she asked. Then, after probably and hour and a half waiting for our food to come, my sister asks the waiter if she can order another glass of wine, and my mother asks for the same. That is when the waiter says that my sister has now been cut off from drinking because she was "slurring when she was yelling at me about the bread" the waiter said. My sister immediately became embarrassed and wanted to leave the restaurant. To cut someone off from having one drink because you didn't like what they had to say to you is beyond ridiculous. My sister was no where near intoxicated and never would be around her grandparents. They were completely offended by what he had said to her and decided we weren't going to spend one more minute in somewhere where we were being treated like second class. If anyone should have been cut off, it should have been the women next to us screaming the entire time obviously drunk. Also, the atmosphere in this place is very dated. Go to Ruth Chris or seasons 52 if you want some real food and be treated like a human. And they call them selves a steakhouse but we're out of mash potatoes... like how are you out of mash potatoes on a Sunday night dinner service. You can't blame it on any shortage. read more

Finally tried Harry and Izzys, and it was everything I hoped for! I was able to try it via devour Indy. Which was so nice because it allowed you to taste a bit of everything. I was beyond excited to try out the shrimp cocktail and wow that is spicy! If you like horseradish and jalapeños then you'll like this. Literally made my eyes water, but kept eating ha. The filet was melt in your mouth perfect and served with the most perfectly cooked asparagus. And for desert I had the brownie, served with vanilla bean ice cream . Extremely rich but well worth it. Our server, Alex, deserved 10 out of 5 stars. He was excellent and tried to make up for the manager and the kitchen. Three of us ordered filets to medium temp. One was medium, one was well, and one was rare. All came out at the same time. The manager, Adam, came by and asked if everything was fine. Alex had already whisked away the well cooked steak. My husband asked if Adam would consider the other two cuts cooked to the same temp, and the clueless Adam said, "it's hard to tell, the light is low." Adam is in the business of managing a steakhouse. I'd think that is a skill one would hone in that line of work. Will I be back? Of course. It's the only shrimp cocktail on the north side. Will I ask for Alex? Double yes. He was the bright spot on an inconsistent night at H&Iz. Do I love that Elmo's cola? You bet your sweet bippy I do. I decided to give Harry & Izzy's another shot. A co-worker said that the Prime Steakburger was the best in town. And being it is technically the 4th of July holiday observed, I decided to order it ! I had Door Dash deliver it, and I must say that it is the fastest delivery order I've ever had. The burger usually comes with the typical lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. It also usually has a spicy mayonnaise, white cheddar cheese, on a sesame seed bun and it appears to be about a 1/2 pound patty. The Door Dash App is great, because you can customize it. I got it without the lettuce, onion, or mayonnaise. And then I had them add bacon to it. And then I added spicy brown mustard to it when it arrived. It truly was phenomenal. The fries were fresh cut and still piping hot when they arrived. My one minor complaint is that the bun was a bit thin which caused the burger to fall apart a little. And I'm not the biggest fan of seeds on buns. A pretzel roll with this burger would have been epic! But overall, they really redeemed themselves from my previous visit. Tonight I ordered dinner for my team. We had Salmon, a filet and pasta. Overall dinner was delicious even though it was delivery. It came 10 minutes ahead of schedule which was also great. The food quality was great and I will do this option again. The only sad thing was we got 3 mashed potatoes instead of 1 and none of the green beans we ordered. Had dinner here the other night. It's restaurant week so it's kind of hard not to get something off that menu. I started off with the St. Elmo shrimp cocktail. Off the regular menu they give you 4 shrimp. On this menu it came with 3. That doesn't bother me as they are huge shrimp in a bowl served over ice and coated with their signature fresh made cocktail sauce. Harry and Izzy's is the sister restaurant to St. Elmo next door and the St. Elmo shrimp cocktail is the best I've had any place. I picked the steak upgrade and got a 14 oz strip steak. I ordered it medium and it came out a perfect medium. The meat quality was lacking though. It was very tough and chewy. As a steakhouse I was pretty disappointed at how chewy the meat here was. Flavor was good. I just can't get that toughness out of my mind. For my side I picked the brussel sprouts with bacon. The plate that came out was large enough to share. Easily. I couldn't eat it all. But they were very good. Except for the handful of raw brussel sprouts on the plate. I'd say 80% of the brussel sprouts were cooked. The other 20% on the plate were raw. For dessert I picked the brownie. It was the perfect size served with vanilla bean ice cream on top and a bourbon sauce on top of that. It was exactly as I expected and was very good. The waitress we had taking care of our table was outstanding. I need to do a better job remembering the names of these folks. I never had an empty glass in front of me. She kept the drinks from the bar coming all night long. I do have a big complaint though. I went to the restroom and came back to my seat to find when someone cleared the brussel sprouts plate they spilled the juice on the plate on my coat. I wiped it up and now I have a brussel sprout smelling coat. I'm going to have to get it cleaned. I'd stop here for the shrimp cocktail or the dessert. Not much else. I have only been here for work events, and the menu was limited because of that. The first time I had the filet sliders and they were delicious. The second time I had the New York strip steak. It was cooked to perfection and flavorful but was a fattier cut than I normally would order. I don't like shrimp cocktail but the others in my party love it. They enjoy the spiciness much more than me. I really love their signature brownie. It is a smaller slice with ice cream. It has a creamy texture with some crispness and rich chocolatey flavor. First time at Harry and Izzy's. My fiancé and I had a really great day. Calamari was great. I would definitely recommend it! And I don't even like calamari like that, but it was really tasty. We both had the ny steaks with black pepper and got it Izzy style. When priding this steak, Make sure you get the orange brandy sauce on the side. It is a really strong flavor. Bread was good as well. My only gripe was that the steaks could have been more on the warmer side. Other than that, we had a great time. Will come back. The steaks were good quality and the lunch specials are excellent quantity for the price. A little pricey overall!!
