Found a parking spot right in front of the place. The restaurant only has three tables and a bar with stools area. So forewarned that seating is very limited if you want to eat there. At 1 o'clock on a Friday afternoon, this place was busy with takeout. Service was fair at best, as the waitress, cashier, grabbed the drinks, appetizers and provide takeout service as was really busy. Owners, how about helping her out a little bit when she's busy. There were three of you in the back doing nothing. After waiting about 20 minutes for the waitress, I walked up to the counter and placed the order verbally at the counter, The order was for a large pepperoni pizza, and two sodas. Also included with the large pizza was a mysterious order of rice pudding, which we never received. The pizza arrived after about 35 minutes wait, and it was greasy. I attribute the grease from the mozzarella. The sauce was on point though. There was very little flop on this medium thickness pizza. It looked Greek. This was just a typical pizza nothing fancy. The pizza won't be memorable to me. The pizza with two drinks was $26 and a fairly good bargain. I don't think I'd try this place again, but it was worth a shot since I was in the Newington area. I didn't check the restrooms. But if they looked anything like this outdated restaurant, they were fair at best. read more

Why would you waste your money on this place? I got 2 pizzas here, one with meat and one a veggie. As I told my wife, mcDonald's served better pizza back in the day when they sold pizza. The storefront seems nice and neat when you enter. While a bit small, it appears most of the business is take out. Only one person sitting at a bar stool in a curved area with a few larger tables behind. The woman at the register couldn't be bothered to even look up to acknowledge she knew we were there. She was on the phone but even a glance up would have been nice. No worries as she did finally tell us she would be right with us, after she hung up the phone a good 3-4 minutes after we were standing in front of her. Even that isn't a big deal in the scheme of things. The big deal is how bad the pizza is on taste and quality. Bad crust, bad body, old cheese, hard and seemingly old pepperoni, all married to a sauce that even my young child said tasted like ketchup. Frankly, this is one of the worst local pizza spot pizzas I've ever eaten in over 45 years of my life. The crust is ok though the body of the pizza seems like they are trying to cross pan and thin crust with a soft doughy middle area on the slice that does no favors to fans of either type. The toppings were of very poor quality and not fresh at all. The roast part was the sauce as even my young child noted. It tasted like ketchup with some spices added. You could do better by purchasing a store bought mass produced jar sauce than what they have. Frankly, I have no idea how this place has been in business as long as they note on their menu. The pizza was horrible. Maybe the other food is better though the "free" rice pudding we got was not that great either. All in all, 3 stars is vastly overrated for this place. 1 is a generous rating at that only because a 0 was not able to be given. My recommendation is you check out Elm Hill Pizza or Turnpike Pizzeria for much better pies than what this place produces. read more

Saturday afternoon running errands and my gang was hungry, we heard about this old timey place so we gave them a called ahead to pick up some food. 2 ham grinders, mozzarella sticks and cheeseburger deluxe. 25 minutes to pick up. We arrived 28 minutes later and the food was ready and nicely packed in a box (extra points for this). Drove home and passed out the food, everything was warm (points for that). the sandwiches were well packed with meat and all of the "fixings" (more points). This place has been around for many years. It can get very busy at times so call/plan ahead. Average wait time is around 30 mins...I have only gotten pizza from here and it is really good tasting. My kids and I enjoy it and get excited when I mention where I'm getting it from. The restaurant also has been sponsoring local Newington Sports for years as well...I can't speak for other sports but my son has been on the Newington Pizza Little League Baseball team two years in a row. I came in here for lunch but I wasn't in a mood for pizza so I decided to order a sub instead. I chose the steak & cheese sub because my mouth was watering for it, and a bag of chips on the side. I was disappointed with the sub because it didn't any flavor. Maybe had I got the sautéed onions that come with it would have helped? I had to add a boat load of ketchup. The bag of chips tasted funny so I didn't eat then. It wasn't until I looked at the bag and saw they were expired. After my meal I walked up and mentioned the chips were expired and the girl just apologized said she was sorry, but I was still charged for it. I checked the chip rack and all the bags were expired. I didn't say anything just walked out. I doubted they will change out the ones on the rack. The restaurant area was ok. I ordered 2 slices of pizza to go at this small family restaurant and was disappointed to discover that it was Greek style. Worse yet, the amount of cheese on the top was overwhelming and the crust, though crisp, had little flavor. Lastly, there was considerable difference between the 2 slices like they were from different pizzas. The cheese on one was almost crunchy while the 2nd was softer. The giant grinders are indeed giant! We got a giant 16' meatball grinder, and it was so big we thought they accidentally gave us 2. It was said to be delicious, fresh crisped bread, seasoned sliced meatballs, provolone, they forgot the peppers. The chicken Parmesan grinder and chicken cutlet grinders are very yummy! Disaster! Complete lack of customer service. Ordered food to be picked up. When we got home, realized a sandwich was missing. Called restaurant and they said they forgot to give it to us. Offered to bring it to us. Good start. Said driver was leaving right then. We live 1 mile away. 20 minutes later, I called and they said "it's on its way." No apology. Another 25 minutes later driver shows up. Hands me the sandwich and doesn't say a word. Not a single word. No apology. No have a good night. Nothing. That's just rude. Things can go wrong. I get that. It's how you handle the problems that demonstrates (or doesn't) that you're committed to customer service. This was handled very poorly. Foods good, basic. In the past few years they have had a few delivery drivers who were very rude, impatient, argumentative, and unprofessional. When you call to complain the owners ask what you want them to do about it and shrug it off, even have become argumentative themselves. On 5/21/14 my family and I and friends ordered three big pizza pies at NEWINGTON PIZZA, 75 MARKET SQ. NEWINGTON CT. Upon serving it at our large table , my husband was advised that the total was $68.12 . When my husband questioned why the order total changed when we first ordered it; he was told that's what the total is because we had ordered after 9:00 PM. My husband advised the employee ( the owner's son ) that he was told 20 minutes ago that the original price quoted by NEWINGTON PIZZA was $49.53 The owner's, nasty son began yelling at my husband since my husband said that he wants the price as he originally ordered PLUS husband asked the rude NEWINGTON PIZZA'S bosses son for his credit card back! The owner's son then yelled at my husband again stating "Thanks, for wasting my time; you MORON! " There were several loud exchanges of words. My husband left. Food is pretty good. Their calzone, in particular, is one of the best I've had. The people are nice enough. Prices are not cheap but reasonable for the quality of the food. However, they take an extremely long time to serve or deliver. Yesterday we ordered delivery at 6:15pm and our food arrived at 7:35pm; we were told it would take 45 minutes. My wife ordered a BLT with no mayo; instead they delivered a BLT with no lettuce (a BT?). To be fair this is the first time they actually screwed up the order. We have ordered from or eaten there many times over the last few years. However, the speed of the service is always - and I mean always - problematic and it doesn't seem to matter whether you order via delivery or wait in the restaurant itself, or whether it's at a busy hour or when no one else is even there. I'm reasonably patient but the slowness of the service is astounding. It's a shame because we would order or eat there more often if it weren't for the incredibly slow service.
