Came here for the first time and really enjoyed the experience. - Atmosphere: It's primarily high top tables with comfy chairs that have backs. Along the bar there are outlets and hooks. Go around the corner and you'll see two couches and bookshelves stocked with books, like a little reading nook. Go into the courtyard and there are fire pits. - Menu: Great selection of cocktails ($9-10), mocktails ($9), beer ($4-$7) - primarily in cans but there are 4 on tap, and wine ($8). A few food items like apps and sandwiches. We got the pretzels which came with about 10ish (I forgot to count) good size pretzel pieces, with seeded mustard and melted cheese for dipping. We split between two people, but this would be great to split between 4 or more people too. They were very good! - Parking is on street but there's also a parking lot around the corner. Overall - I highly recommend for the cool vibe and to try one of their cocktails. The only downside of the experience was that the music was too loud to have a conversation by the bar. Maybe the reading nook or outside would be better for people looking to catch up. read more

Popped in for the first time on a Sunday around 2pm.. not crowded at all. Beautifully modern inside area and bar, very comfortable atmosphere. Not only are they distilling all their own liquor, It's one of those places that makes serious craft cocktails with crazy exotic ingredients.. sometimes that can be hit and miss for me. These were great.. highly recommend the "Is This Heaven" drink, so good. Only con was bartender was stand off-ish, but that can be over looked, maybe she pooped her pants while working who knows.. Wow! I made a reservation here after reading an article about the Barrel Room and how it was a fun place to try. I made my reservation two weeks in advance and couldn't wait to go. When we first walked into Hartman's there was a DJ and a nice crowd. There was no signage to indicate where to go. There was a girl holding an iPad off in the corner. We kept looking awkwardly at each other. Finally my fiance just walked over and asked her where to go for dinner reservation. I don't know what she said but we had to wait a few minutes which was fine. We just continued to stand awkwardly in the way. NBD. There was a DJ there and the music was good. Eventually she came over and we followed behind her. We passed a doorway and snuck under a heavy theater curtain. Instantly the vibe changed. The music was different, the lighting was much dimmer and the setting was way more intimate. We were seated in super comfy lounge chairs and promptly informed that we had a 90 minute window of time after which we had to leave. I don't recall her exact words but I knew that because it was stated in the reservation. Anyway, we were given large menus with all the drinks, spirits and food. Now here's where I messed up. I accidentally thought we would be having dinner. The Barrel Room is located within Hartman's Distilling Co and I assumed they shared a kitchen therefore full meals would be available. Wrong! You know what they say about assuming. So anyway, I looked at the menu and was heartbroken to see that there were literally four options to pick from; Tomato Toast $12, Deviled Egg $12, Roasted Bone Marrow $16 and Tartare $20. Y'all my feelings were so hurt. I'd waited all day for dinner. I did not think I was going to have to make a stop through someones drive-thru on the way home. But anyway, we ordered the toast and the eggs because I'll be damned if I'm paying for bone marrow and raw beef. Our server Lauren G. was awesome. I followed the direction in the menu under the option "We Got You" and told her I was overwhelmed by the options in the menu and I told her the things I like in a drink. She assured me she's come up with something. And did she ever. She created a simple vodka based cocktail that she called the "Nikki". Awww. Swoon! We're besties now. It was super delicious. She even added a little razzle dazzle and gave me a little fancy smoke bubble on top. My fiance ordered The Korova, The Cool Jerk and Fizzy Lifting Drink. He was way more adventurous than I was when it came to trying drinks and I'm glad he did. The theatrics of each one was great. There was a lot artistry and creativity of each one. He enjoyed each one but he really like the styling of them. It took a while, but when our food came I was keeping my mind open. Thankfully I did. My fiance instantly fell in love with the Tomato Toast. It was definitely better than the description would have one believe. I really enjoyed it. It was like a bougie pizza with more flavor than you could imagine. Jam packed with flavor. That goat milk parm was out of this world. I would have ordered more but we were on the clock or whatever. The deviled eggs were great too. My fiance was worried that I'd back away from them because of the foie mousse. But he didn't know that I didn't know and still don't know what the hell that is. Ignorance is bliss, am I right? Those eggs were delicious. They were creamy and savory yet light. I generally don't care for deviled eggs but they were quite spectacular. Overall, it was a nice experience and great change of pace. I realize that the only thing separating us from Hartman's was a wall and curtain but we were right in front of a covered window and I could easily hear DJ Crespo mixing Jay-Z while the Barrel Room floated Otis Redding through the speakers. Don't get me wrong, I love "Dock of the Bay" but I was struggling with an internal battle to remain a seated lady or get up and twerk. It was a bit distracting and at times annoying because the music outside was overpowering the very different vibe inside. I definitely recommend trying this place out. My anxiety wouldn't let me really enjoy myself because I kept watching the clock and waiting to get kicked out. I don't like being on a timeclock outside of work. I understand why it's necessary but I just couldn't ignore the pressure to get out. The upside is you walk out to Hartman's afterward and continue to get drunk at a lower price point with some of the same tasty spirits. read more

The bartending staff was standing around having a conversation or too busy on their phones. My guest and myself had to wait while they finished their conversation and the establishment was not even busy. We ordered a charcuterie board and it was not good, there was not crackers just a small amount of bread. Let's just say the charcuterie board was not your typical, it was hard to identify what was on the board. The hostess Morgan was outstanding with her customer service greeting people as they were coming in. She was very attentive and super helpful with any questions that people had while others were on their phones. Morgan needs a raise for going over and beyond her duties! read more

Decided to grab brunch here with my girls and SO glad we stopped here on a whim. The inside atmosphere is very similar to other breweries/distilleries in Buffalo - very industrial chic type of vibe. Elegant but doesn't take itself too seriously. We were seated at a 4 top near the bar and loved how open and bright it was. We came specifically for bloody marys and they absolutely didn't disappoint. We ended up going with the charcuterie board, avocado toast, and bread & spreads and everything was delicious. I love it here. In the summer you can sit outside in the winter it's more mellow. We have been here many times specifically for the bourbon slushies and I will continue to come for them. They're refreshing and slightly sweet and basically the perfect warm weather drink but still great in the winter. we also got food for the first time. Came for drinks last week Wednesday (which also happens to be trivia night) to check the place out and it exceeded expectations. The openness gives a super fresh vibe. The cocktail menu is one to rival. Last night I rented out their "speakeasy" room which has been newly renovated for private COVID friendly gatherings. It had a private bar with our own bartender, sound system to hook up your own music, couches and plenty of seating for a cozy intimate setting. The owner Justin, GM Adam, and our bartender Ryan were so helpful and accommodating. I cannot say enough good things about this place and their staff. Went in last night on a Saturday night and the music was so loud you couldn't hear a single thing anyone was saying to you. I paid $45 for 2 drinks and 3 shots. The bar tender was clearly new because it took her 10+ minutes to make our two drinks and then she was smelling the drinks to figure out which was which. When she gave us our drinks, they tasted nothing they should have. I closed out right after getting our shots and as I was signing my receipt, the same bartender dropped a shaker and it flung across the bar spilling my drink all over me. She apologized but did not offer to remake my drink that she just spilled all over me when I had only taken one sip so far. Will not be returning. I was not overly impressed with my brunch experience. The seating is uncomfortable and awkward for eating, the tables are very low and the seats are almost bar stool height so you have to hunch over the tables. The tables are super small and don't leave much room for anything besides drinks or plates. The menu isn't very large but has a decent variety. There are only a handful of items on the brunch menu and I went with the Belgian waffles and fried chicken. My meal was great, the waffles were tasty and sweet and complimented the chicken well. I also ordered the gin and juice slushy which was delicious and not too overwhelming with gin or sweetness. If you go on a Saturday, there's a DJ playing music and it's a fun idea but it's very loud and hard to talk with your group. Overall it wasn't a terrible experience but I don't know that I'd go back anytime soon. read more

I really like the vibe of this place and the large amount of outdoor seating available. They seem to have a dj on the weekends, which is fun. I'm kind of addicted to their loganberry slush. I think it should be Buffalo's official cocktail of summer! I did NOT like the actual loganberry vodka in my normal vodka water splash of cranberry cocktail. Stopped here with a friend a few months back to see what all the buzz was about, and honestly so glad we did. Hartman's has a great atmosphere - beautifully decorated, lots of seating, and even a little nook in the back that looks like something you'd see on Mad Men. Loved the couches, the shelving, really unique in terms of aesthetic. The service was fantastic as well. We didn't order anything from the food menu, though it all looked very promising! I ordered an Earhart to drink and was taken aback by how tasty it was. It was vodka based with berry purée and elderberry, and I loved it. Wasn't too strong, yet didn't taste too sweet either. An incredibly pleasant drinking experience, I wish I would've explored other drinks, but the Earhart was too good to get anything else. I'm hoping to return in the near future to check out more of their drink offerings, and maybe try a snack off of their menu as well! read more

Hartman's Distilling is located in an up and coming area of the city with ample parking. This distillery is within a unique old building that also holds a brewery and a climbing center which add the the reasons to check it out and watch the climbers or try a brew after your visit. Hartman's has multiple liquors made there: vodka, bourbon, rye, and soon to be available, gin. Between myself and two guests we tried 6 cocktails off of the menu. The cocktail experience has room for improvement as many were not quite mixed as a cohesive cocktail- more a combination of ingredients and not all garnished. The bartenders are responsive to requests and happily remixed one of our cocktails for us. I look forward to returning to this distillery when they have had time to adjust cocktails and add the gin to the menu! Overall a good experience. read more

4 star review is an average of the Distillery and Barrel room. The Barrel room (3/5): I was so excited to go here! A secret spot that has fancy cocktails and takes reservations, sign me up! We got there about 5 minutes before our reservation. It was hard to find to we had to walk around for a few minutes until we saw the entrance as it wasn't clearly labelled. The hostess told us that our table would be ready in about 15 minutes. Not the end of the world, but she didn't apologize for the wait. When we got to our table, the space was gorgeous! I could not believe how awesome it was. The hostess even told us a bit about whiskey before we sat down. I also noticed when we sat down that there was already wine there. I wish the hostess had told us what the wine was because it was really good, and I was nervous it wasn't complementary. The waiter came over about 10 minutes later and helped us order some drinks. He was really friendly and even made me a zero proof cocktail. The drinks came out pretty fast too and were all super unique and delicious. We then asked him about some food and he told us he had to ask the chef a few questions and would get back to us. We were having a great time. But then the bartender didn't come over again for an hour and a half just to hand us our check. We were really disappointed by this! We were going to order food (he had told us he was coming back after talking to the chef), more drinks, and he never asked us how our drinks were. We wouldn't have minded too much, but they kick you out after 90 minutes to make room for other reservations. Our waiter/bartender was also taking shots behind the bar, so we wish he had spent more time paying attention to customers, instead of drinking. The other complaint was the temperature of the room. Midway through drinks the AC turned on and the room felt about 40 degrees. I really really wish we had a better experience because the drinks and the ambiance were great. The distillery (5/5): I love the distillery! The drinks and liquor they make are excellent. The bartender was super friendly and quick and the food was also excellent. I can't say enough great things about this place and the people. Have been there for brunch for a yoga event, when there is a dj on a sat night, and now with the new barrel room. One of favorite places in the area. Love all the ideas that keep coming from Hartmans! Sometimes I am in the mood for a low key happy hour and enjoy watching everyone walk by with their pups...recently was able to experience the new barrel room with a close group of friends. It's was amazing. I learned a lot about some new bourbon, and another incredible evening here. We did take lots of pics, but this is something that you have to experience in person with the new spot that they opened up. read more

The first 2 times we tried to come here, the doors were open and people inside with an "open" sign in front, but when we approached the bar, the bar tenders told us (only after watching us walk all the way to the bar) that they were closed. We FINALLY gave them a 3rd try and only when we were sure they were open. The drinks are well built and have funny hidden meaning for anyone who has watched "Inside" by Bo Burnham. The chairs look trendy but beware anyone on the curvy side- you'll feel as though you're about to go tumbling backward. I got the "may contain wine" which does, in fact, contain wine. However, any wine flavor is lost on what is essentially a Moscow mule- the ginger overwhelms. Charcuterie had a small variety of good cheeses and meats. Overall, probably worth giving another chance. Have been here 4 times in the last few weeks, each time my friends and I have had a great experience. The atmosphere and decor are fun and inviting, and the staff are extremely knowledgeable. Our cocktails have always been tasty and the selection is first class. Don't get me started on their Duck Confit and Truffle salt popcorn they serve at the bar...mouth watering to say the least. Prices are very reasonable, and there is plenty of parking in the surface lot next to the building.
