I have been going to this nail salon for many years. The salon is clean, attractive, they offer great manicures and pedicures and best of all, their polishes are organic and safe for my nails. Things to improve: If someone calls ahead of time for store hours, you should tell them it's an appointment only salon before hanging up with them. I came all the way there and almost didn't get an appointment. Also, the lady at the front desk seems a bit stressed and negative about everyone coming in without an appointment. Even if there's no room, a kind voice and someone who encourages you that there's plenty availability for another day would be nice. Maybe help show me all the polishes and products to buy to use on my own until my appointment. This makes the customer want to come back. I updated my review to 1 star because of the rude and poor customer service response I received from the owner of this salon on google reviews. read more

**update** It gets worse. Feeling optimistic I brought my 7mos pregnant friend for a mani pedi treat. We were promptly seated and cared for by two wonderful ladies. Sadly the end result left much to be desired. I posted photos of my mani pedi taken right after I left. Sweet ladies but not worth the $55 terrible paint job. Sigh. So this is reviewing my third time here. In my 9th month of pregnancy and thought I'd treat myself to a pedi since I can't reach my own feet. The running theme is similar to a doctor's appointment. Wait. I had a 2pm appointment for a pedicure. Fast forward 2:38 pm- soaking my feet in a now cold tub of water. Seriously? Let me mention there are two other ladies also waiting for the same amount of time in their once hot, but now cold tub water. I don't really care home nice the seating is or how nice the staff members are. No one has time to sit for 40+min for a pedicure that is to START a pedicure. 2:42PM nail tech arrives and apologizes for the wait..... I blame whoever us managing the appointments and staffing. Beyond unacceptable. I hate writing a poor review but anyone who visits should know that this is something that happens regularly. The actual pedis and manis are great but if the odds are against the customer who has an appointment I'm not sure it's worth it. Sad and disappointed. read more

The employees were very unprofessional! I loved this place at first. I love non-toxic organic mani/pedis. And it smells lovely and is a beautiful space. Throughout the pedicure, the employees were speaking loudly to each other across the room. Slightly annoying for a zen-like atmosphere, but not a big deal. When it was time for my mani, the employees began to make fun of and complain about other customers that were there. The employees were cruel and making fun of a sweet older woman. They did all this in Spanish, assuming that they are the only ones on the planet who speak that particular language. As a native Spanish speaker and Hispanic woman, it made me very uncomfortable to hear them disparaging the other customers. In the end, I approached the manager and told her what had happened. She said that another customer complained last week about the same thing. The manager was very nice but unsure of what to do. I had a nice mani and pedi both this time and last time I was here but I honestly will probably never come back. I would rather travel to the city to get an organic mani/pedi, rather than be exposed to such a toxic environment. I understand that employees have to let off steam and to complain about clients is normal. However, complaining about clients in front of other clients is extremely unprofessional. This salon will continue to lose customers as long as this continues. It really is such a shame. I was ready to be a repeat customer. But I probably will never go back. read more

I gave this salon a second chance, because it has been nine months since I had my nails done and it was close to somewhere I needed to be. I was so pleasantly surprised at how much my experience was improved!! My husband and I walked in as the previous appointment walked out, and everyone in the salon was impeccable with their cleaning/sanitation process. Best pedicure I've had in a while! I called & they fit me right in. I got the Green Tea pedicure & it came with a complimentary cup of green tea (how cute!). The chairs for the pedicures are comfy too! I enjoyed my time there so much, I'm going to get my gel polish off and come back for a manicure! This is probably going to be my new spot. I frequent 2 nail salons in Ridgewood- a regular chemical-laden one where I can always walk in and get service, and Karma which is harder to get an appointment but worth the wait. The prior reviews are accurate. It doesn't stink like chemicals in here. All the products and polishes are inoffensive smelling and yet still get the job done. They have single use tools which they open in front of you. The soaking bowls are not attached to a chair so they can be thoroughly cleaned. They have a menu with different treatments. Services are priced accordingly- no $35 mani/pedis here. The cons- my goodness scheduling is difficult. I've only been able to come when I have a weekday off or make a weekend appointment well in advance. They either turn you away or let you come in and leave your feet soaking while they finish on another customer. Not great if you're pressed for time. read more

It's been an hour since I have returned from receiving the "Sweet & Sour" (slices of lemon in warm water for one to soak feet/fingers) mani and pedi... and yes, I'm typing on my keyboard with my freshly manicured nails because they already look a week old anyway...tragic, I know. I was fortunate enough to try this place out because someone gave me a gift certificate. Maybe that is why I am not really that unhappy with my experience, but I am sure I would be more annoyed with the state of my nail polish if I had actually paid $50 out of pocket for my mani/pedi. Karma Organic Spa uses its own products which are touted as not containing harmful chemicals, therefore supposedly being more "wholesome" for your nails? Well, I guess there is a reason why people still flock to the non-wholesome nail polish - it dries better and harder and allows one to do daily activities such as driving, holding things, and pretty much using one's hands... So I was not impressed with the nail polish's longevity so much. The question then arises as to how well-versed I am in post-polish care... There may be those who are more proficient but I stayed under the drier for a good 10 minutes and took as much care as possible but still ended up with chipped, dented nails by the time I got home, not the usual state of affairs when I have had them done at other establishments. Bleh! In addition, there were other issues: (1) I had to do additional cuticle culling once I got home since there were pieces that were sticking out of two nails; (2) Most of my nails had bubbling on the surface of the polish, which may be again related to the poor quality of the polish; and (3) the edges of my nails were not cleanly painted and were uneven on both my fingers and toes. Regarding the actual experience of pre-polish - it was very nice. I enjoyed the scrub and the massage of my hands and feet/legs. The woman who did both my mani and pedi was very efficent and good at the massage part of the service. However, she was a little more rushed in the nail painting. Just a note: as another reviewer mentioned, this establishment is less about really getting the cuticles/callus perfectly cut/filed away & nail polished and more about the soaking/massaging. The actual nail care aspect of the mani/pedi really felt like an afterthought. As for the staff, they were nice enough and mostly efficient. But don't be misled by the "spa" in the name of Karma Organic Spa. You will not be coddled or treated like royalty. I personally did not have such expectations but I can see how some people might expect a little more backward-bending by the staff because of the so-called "spa expectations" and/or the somewhat exorbitant pricing for services. This appears to be a appointment-only establishment since they were booked solid today (Sunday). I'm not sure if that holds true for weekdays, however. The woman at the front was kind enough to let me know that there was a cancellation which allowed me to go in earlier than my appointment but definitely make a reservation if you plan to go. I don't think I'll need another appointment. read more

My absolute favorite place to go to get my nails done. Not only are their products non-toxic, the aesthetics of the place is beautiful, calming and relaxing. The pedicure chairs, elevated on a platform, are large lounge chairs you would find in your living room and it evokes the feeling of having someone come to your house to give you a luxurious pedicure. The pedicure bowls are large and made of recycled material and everyone gets smooth stones, essential oils and flower petals as part of their pedicure. Talk about feeling like an organic princess. The manicures are equally as nice -- instead of crowded, cluttered manicure stations like at most places nearby, they are white desks and the tools are neatly corralled into baskets. Each pedicure and manicure seat have wooden coasters, and you're always offered a complimentary cup of green tea with a wooden spoon. Even in the summer, I always choose to have the tea - it really adds to the relaxation and mood of the place. The staff is wonderful and spend time making sure you have a great experience. All of the staff speaks english fluently and will happily have a great conversation with you. And! This place is clean - all of the utencils are in vacuum sealed packs in a UV decontaminating machine. Again, its like getting spa treatments in your home. Every time I have gone there, the owner is always on site and happily interacting with his customers as well as pitching in. When things are crowded, he has given me a manicure. Over by the choices of nail polish, you can peruse through the many thank you letters he has already received for his generous donations to the community. This is a fairly new place and has only been around a year or two. You can also read about him on the many articles he has proudly framed by the manicure stations. The letters and the articles really show me how much he cares for not only his business but for the community of Ridgewood, which is essentially a huge value for people that seek out all things organic. This was the worst waxing I could have imagined. The woman who took me back barely spoke to me, possibly because of not speaking English. When she sat me in the private waxing room, there was pubic hair on the bed!!! They clearly do not clean between clients. When she finished the wax, I left with hair and wax still on my legs. I had to finish it at home to remove the rest of the hair, and try to get the remaining wax off. read more

Manicure/Pedicure/Eyebrow Waxing on 12/23 This place was good not great. I enjoyed the pedicure seats, it is more so like sitting on your couch than in a salon. The eyebrow waxing was good - it didn't burn/sting because the wax they use is different. They did a good job with it. The pedicure was pleasant... it was quick though which makes me feel rushed. A good pedicure should last a while. My big toe is still kind of sore -- I am guessing she pulled a cuticle wrong. The manicure was just about the same as the pedicure, except I told the manicurist I didn't want polish because it chips so easily & it looks tacky. She assured me that this one wouldn't chip for two weeks -- that's not true at all OR I am just unusually rough on my nails, not sure. read more

It's best to look at the most recent updates on here when considering Karma. Reading some of the 2012/2013 reviews makes this place seem lack luster when it's definitely not. What we all know: they have organic products. The reason I drive nearly 40 min for my karma appointments. I wish there were more salons like Karma in the state. But I digress..I was here May 19 or 20 for the sweet and sour. The water didn't have as many lemon slices as I thought (my only complaint..compared to Sweet Lily where it seems they chopped up an entire cucumber for my pedi), but the essential oils in my water felt great. My technician was so sweet. There was a bit of a language barrier but she made sure to really listen & understand any requests I made. This woman (with some advice from her colleague) meticulously worked on a cherry blossom nail design I wanted for my ring fingers and big toes. It wasn't exactly like the picture of course, but it was an excellent variation. She took her time and was really thorough. I have an appointment this Saturday and want to try the Karma Lavendar. When I told her she needed one, she responded by saying there was plastic sheeting around her and she didn't need one .No one asked her to wear one- I would be leery about going here. I came here a few years ago when I had a gift certificate. I had a leg wax and a pedicure. I got the pedicure that was citrus base. The first thing I liked about the salon was that it did not smell like a "regular salon". It was very fresh smelling. The waxer was very professional who waxed my legs. I did not have any irritation on my legs after the wax. The citrus pedicure was a delight as the technician buffed my feet and placed my feet into a bowl. For your information, they fill up bowls with water instead of having the water come from a mini tub like most salons do. I have not tried any facials here, but I might try a facial in the future. Wow!!! I loved the new nail polish, "good karma", almost seemed like a light pink that I bought from their website. I am really very happy with this color shade, and they even sent free natural nail polish remover wipes along with the nail polish I bought! :) The nail polish is of great quality and also seem to strengthen and help my nails grow healthy. The nail polish color lasts on my nails for a long time too. Hands-down the best pedicure I've ever had in my entire life! The pedicurist was extremely thorough and gave me the best foot massage! Would recommend this to anybody and definitely felt like the price was 100% worth it for the incredible quality. Also had a chance to meet the owner who is extremely personable, friendly and sweet. Like another reviewer, I'd really like to like this place more. The owner is very nice and sweet. He is always around. However, every time I go, I always leave disappointed in my manicure. The nail technician that I get doesn't seem to care much about giving the customer a nice experience besides just doing her basic job. She doesn't honor my requests as I'd like them to be honored (which aren't much, I'd like to have really short nails and cuticles cut more). I think the tech could be more careful with the applying of the nail polish. Went here in hopes to find a great spa to get pedicures and waxed done. The staff was very unprofessional, and tried to overcharge me for a wax insistently even though the price was marked clearly on their website. I kindly reminded the woman ringing me out that the website said a certain amount and she replied, "well I don't ever go on the website because why would I have to?" Very sarcastically. They finally accepted that I could pay the price listed, but it was not without putting up a bit of a fight about it (which I don't like to do typically). The wax was also not great. I came here because I am pregnant and did not want to breathe the toxic chemicals at my usual nail salon. Well, I found a new home for my mani and pedis. Love the product, have never had an issue with the polish, my manicures last longer than they did with traditional polish. Linda is my favorite because she uses the right amount of pressure when massaging my legs and she doesn't skimp on the length of the massage either! Best thing I did for myself during my pregnancy was treat myself to a visit here bi-weekly. I just wish other customers would refrain from using cell phones (especially on speaker!) when receiving services out of respect for those of us trying to get some peace and quiet. read more

Whenever I'm in NJ I have really enjoyed treating myself to a mani/pedi at Karma. The organic-ness is, of course, lovely, but mostly I liked the classiness of the vibe there, so unlike most of the salons in Orange County, CA. I visited in October and immediately sensed things were different. The staff had undergone some turnover and the ladies who did my sister's and my mani-pedi barely interacted with us at all. They spoke constantly in Spanish and it was very irritating. Instead of the serene, calming environment I remembered, I was unable to relax and enjoy because of the constant chatter and laughter by the ladies. The inattention resulted in a poorer end product too - my manicure lasted barely a week and the polish was not uniformly and smoothly applied. I will not return - makes me sad. read more

I went to Karma today, a Sunday afternoon, for one of their higher-end pedicures. I was really looking forward to a peaceful, relaxing experience. I had nothing of the sort. The pedicure would have been fine but I could not enjoy it due to the very loud, long, self-absorbed conversation (more like a monologue) someone who seemed to work there (though not a mani/pedicurist) was having with a customer. It was truly excruciating to listen to and one had no choice. I was unable to read my book nor enjoy my pedicure. I got the impression she only works on Sundays....so I for one will definitely never go there again on a Sunday. Not sure whether I'll give them another chance on a different day. Spa should =relaxing but this was the exact opposite! I wanted to cry I was so miserable! read more

The place smells really good, very cute idea with the bowls and the specials. However, I felt that it was unprofessional that the owner was arguing the tasks of the salon to the employees in front of clients.
