    Shishito Peppers

I visited Haruka with a small group of friends for the holidays, and we ordered a variety of appetizers, sushi, and chirashi. Overall, all of the fish were fresh and tasty ,and our server was very present in refilling waters and checking in on us. After sipping on some Sapporo, we started with deep fried Shishito peppers. The kick surprised me, since I wasn't used to them being so spicy (!) Then we moved onto the Agedashi Tofu; nothing like a nice crisp fry and a soft interior to start the meal. After that, we had a variety of sushi and enjoyed a chirashi and sweet shrimp - yum! Some of these were so good that we even ordered two! Finding a favorite was indeed hard. Even the ones included eel (my least favorite) were enjoyable!

Came back to Haruka Sushi for dinner with my boyfriend and his mom and had another great experience. We sat at the bar and chatted with sushi chef Nathan, who was super friendly and kind. We ordered the scallop nigiri and sweet shrimp nigiri again since they were my favorites last time and they did not disappoint. My boyfriend's mom got the eel bowl with avocado and tamago, which is perfect if you like cooked fish with a little sweetness. We also shared a few rolls including the rainbow roll and the yellowtail lover roll. Both were really good and I liked the asparagus in the yellowtail roll, such a nice touch. My favorite dish of the night was the Burukurabu Salmon Wrap. The blue crab was amazing and the ponzu with truffle oil paired so well. Chef also made us some mackerel to try and it was buttery, flavorful, and not fishy at all. Another great sushi night here and I will definitely be back soon for my weekly sushi fix. :)

Been coming to this location with my wife even when they were still Yes Sushi. So happy that the only difference is the decor has changed. The staff here are always so amazing and they really make us feel so welcome. Special shout out to Sunny. She almost always serves us when we go and she is one of the reasons we always come back. The food is always great and fresh. We love that this is an our go to sushi place and definitely recommend!

Happy that it's new ownership!!! It's very nice inside and modern. The sushi and rolls are VERY DELICIOUS and fresh!!! I ordered my Cali rolls with brown rice and it was so good and moist and not hard at all. The miso soup was also very good and hot and fresh and not salty. The food for me was 5/5. The service was great as well. Our server BRI was very amicable and friendly and did not mess up her order. She was very welcoming. Overall, I will come back here and I highly recommend this place for good Rolls and Sushi. They have really good reasonable prices and the food is bomb. I had no regrets. They have parking in lot too! -Marshay D.

A hidden gem in Pasadena -- perfect stop while your Tesla charges! Haruka is right next to the superchargers, and it's become our go-to spot whenever we're in the area. The restaurant was beautifully remodeled in February, and the space feels both delightful and tasteful. We've had lunch here three times recently, and each visit has been consistently excellent. The lunch bento boxes are a standout -- fresh, generous, and beautifully prepared. The salad is crisp with a light, refreshing dressing, and the California rolls and teriyaki are outstanding. On top of the great food, the service is warm and attentive, which makes the whole experience even better. Definitely worth a stop whether you're charging or not -- Pasadena has a lot of options, but Haruka is one we'll keep coming back to.

I had a large takeout order from this restaurant, and I was left really disappointed. I cannot say anything about the service or ambiance since it was a to-go order, but I can say that I found the food lacking. I ordered a chirashi bowl along with some other pieces of nigiri. I also tried some of the rolls other people in my group ordered. The slices of sashimi in the chirashi were ridiculously small, especially the shrimp. I can overlook that in some cases, but I also found the quality to be subpar. The sushi tasted like fish from a cheap all you can eat place. However, this place is charging high end sushi prices. The rolls and nigiri were also small and low quality. The only positive is that the presentation was beautiful, but it felt like a distraction from the below average fish. The food might be better if you dine there, but I would never recommend ordering food to-go.

Stopped by this cozy Japanese spot and wow -- the chirashi bowl was amazing and very pretty. Every slice of fish was fresh, and perfectly chilled over fluffy, slightly vinegared rice. It was like getting a hug from the ocean. Paired it with a glass of chilled sake that hit all the right notes -- clean, smooth, and just the right amount of warmth going down. The vibe was calm and intimate, perfect for a solo sushi moment or a quiet dinner. Service was kind and attentive without hovering. I left full, happy, and already thinking about my next visit. Highly recommend if you're craving quality Japanese fare without the fuss.

We've been coming to this lot to charge our car and had been eagerly waiting for Haruka Sake Sushi to open. We finally stopped by on a weeknight, and everything we tried was fresh and delicious. To top it off, the manager/owner personally came by to introduce himself, which was a nice touch. My husband is a bit particular about his sushi and requested a customized cucumber-wrapped roll with a different type of fish. The owner didn't hesitate, he immediately asked the chef to make it just the way we wanted. That level of service really stood out to us. We also ordered the chirashi bowl, scallop sushi, and a tofu salad. Everything tasted fresh, and we felt the prices were very reasonable given the quality. We'll definitely be returning to explore more of the menu.

Parking is limited, the restaurant sits in a plaza that's next to a hotel and most spots are for Tesla chargers. We loved our visit. The sushi rolls were made perfectly, it melts in your mouth. We ordered the Yellowtail Jalapeno Usuzukuri and it was refreshing. Blue Fin Tuna Sashimi was plated really nicely, generous portion and it tasted very fresh. Service was great. I love the layout of the restaurant, very minimal and organized.

    Calamari
    Amy L.

I love love the calamari here. If I could id order more but my tummy didn't allow it after eating everything. My friend got the super expensive omakase and it's think it was worth because they had uni in there and higher quality cuts. I got the cheaper one and I liked it because they didn't have uni. My favorite ones would be the ones on the left with the salmon. The eel sushi was also very good. Some of the sushi tasted like spring (most likely the flower?) They were nice to sub the blue crab handroll for a salmon roll for me. We couldn't finish all of the food so we togoed the dynamite roll and it tasted even better after we heated it up the next day. Parking is a bit weird. There's a whole roll of tesla charging stations so finding normal parking is a bit harder.

I'm excited to see a new sushi spot in Pasadena, the interior is clean and cute, very aesthetically pleasing. Service was great, but the highlight has to be the high quality premium sushi here! Salmon and toro are my favorite type of fish and Haruka did not disappoint, the toro sushi was amazing! I saw tempura ice cream on the menu and it was so excited to try it so I saved some room to, it was bigger than I thought, what a nice way to end my dinner!

Medium Moriawase Sashimi (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore, halibut, striped jack)
    Airi G.

I will drive far for good sushi and this is one of those places. They just opened this location in Pasadena which is much closer than La Cañada Flintridge, so I was happy to visit. We ordered the medium moriawase sashimi to share since we couldn't decide which fish we wanted to try. It came with 3 pieces each of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore, halibut, and striped jack. It was all very fresh, and the slices were thick. We also ordered the sunkissed roll and lion king roll on the side to make ourselves fuller since these came with rice. It worked because I thought I would be able to eat more after this but I was stuffed. Granted, I did have one spicy tuna crispy rice, which was extra crispy but a bit too fried in my opinion. My boyfriend also had the mixed tempura and devoured the whole plate. I came on a Thursday night and there were plenty of open seats, but I can imagine it getting popular on weekends. Half the food came out immediately while the other half did take a bit longer, but I think they're working out the kinks. I definitely recommend ordering the omakase sushi or moriawase sashimi for the best experience.

    Red snapper and amberjack sushi
    Ali O.

I had my doubts given the plaza setting and holiday inn. But it was totally worth taking a chance!! It was our first time here, and we were surprised to see it so quiet on a Friday evening given the high ratings. But everything was clean and pleasant. Our server Yenna was an absolute gem. She talked over the whole menu, and pointed out some favorites to try. We took her recommendations and they were delicious. We had the 210 and garlic albacore roll, along with red snapper and amberjack sushi (our first time trying these fish). Dessert was green tea mochi. Also yummy. Yenna also suggested we try the edible flowers that topped the different dishes. The restaurant gets its name from them, and she said they had a cumin-like taste. I enjoyed the surprise and savory, aesthetic touch. Can't wait to come back for our next sushi date.

After more than a year away, I decided to give Osawa another try on May 8, 2026. Unfortunately, the experience confirmed why I had stopped coming. Around 9:02 p.m., my waiter came by to ask for last orders. I ordered chicken karaage. This is a simple dish that usually comes out in about 4 to 5 minutes. For whatever reason, the order did not arrive until around 9:26 p.m. -- almost 25 minutes later. It seemed obvious that the order had been forgotten. When the karaage finally arrived, it looked hastily sauced. Several parts of the chicken were unsauced, which is not how the dish was normally served in the past. Given the delay and the apparent mishandling, I did not touch the dish. A Japanese male manager wearing glasses then came over. He recognized me, and I explained that I had not been back for more than a year because of the food poisoning incident from fish in 2025. Instead of responding seriously, the manager smiled and giggled slightly, then launched into an irrelevant conversation about his connections in the Japanese food industry in Old Town Pasadena. When he asked why I had not touched the chicken, I explained the almost 30-minute delay and the problems with the dish. Rather than comping the item or offering a real apology, the manager asked whether I still wanted to eat it or would prefer to cancel it. He then ended the conversation by suggesting that I come in during weekday lunch for the $18 lunch specials. That response was bizarre and tone deaf. I did not return after a food poisoning incident to hear a sales pitch about lunch specials. I returned as a longtime customer giving Osawa another chance. Osawa's way of doing business has changed a lot. I've seen better customer service at Erewhon.

Luckily they have a waitlist system where you can track your spot in line, so we just walked around Pasadena and did some shopping while we waited. To be honest, all of the staff were great. The servers and hostesses were friendly, professional, and kept things running smoothly. As for the food, Sugarfish continues to be one of my favorite sushi spots for the price. The rice is always cooked perfectly and the fish is consistently fresh and melts in your mouth. This time I tried the yellowtail sashimi with lemon and it was absolutely delicious. My girlfriend and I usually order the Nozawa Trust Me and the "Don't Think. Just Eat." Since it's just the two of us, we split both meals so we get to try a bigger variety of fish. Some of my favorites are still the scallops and the anago. Those two never disappoint. My partner and I shared the rainbow roll, mango cha cha roll, lemon salmon roll, salmon bento box, and cheese bulgogi. I really enjoyed the creative specialty sushi rolls, with my favorite roll being the mango cha cha roll. It tasted savory from the crispy shrimp tempura, while the fresh mango on top added a nice, refreshing pop of sweetness. As for the lemon salmon roll, it tasted fresh and more citrus-forward. Surprisingly, the salmon bento box was very filling and balanced. This included 2 pieces of grilled teriyaki salmon, 4 pieces of California roll, mixed tempura, miso soup, and a small salad with dressing. For anyone who does not eat raw fish, this would be the perfect dish. For the cheese bulgogi, there was a sweet-savory soy garlic flavor. I liked that the meat was thinly sliced, which paired perfectly with the gooey melted cheese. However, it was a bit saltier than I'd like it to be. Some rice and miso soup was served alongside this to balance out the richness from the cheese. Service could have been better. It seems that the staff were not very attentive at times, even though the place was not busy. Nonetheless, all of the food was pretty good and there was a chill atmosphere. This is a solid sushi bar to visit for either lunch or dinner.

In fact, the service was so slow that the servers started to clear our plates while we were waiting for them to bring out our food The servers were awkwardly clashing plates at our table and being difficult about refilling the water and tea. After dropping $800+ as a table, we were waiting on one last nigiri (Yellowtail Belly) to come out. We asked our waiter to check on it for us, and he came back to us saying it should have been on the plate that had the other Yellowtail Nigiri on it. The reason why we brought this up in the first place is because the two didn't come out together. He then brings another waitress who tells us it should have come out already, and then another who tells us completely different information (i.e. it came out with different fish). This is my go-to spot for sushi in Pasadena. Usually, my partner and I get a couple of lunch sets…read moresince it comes with a poke soba, miso soup, and some veggies, in addition to the entree. The salmon lunch bowl is lightly seared and the fish melts in your mouth. And the beef in the beef bowl is so tender and is phenomenal every time. I've been here 3-4 times in the last few months and the quality is always great, clean, and consistent. Great spot for a date night or a dinner with friends. Alison, our server, was attentive and always really courteous! She made some great sake recommendations as well.

Super solid Japanese spot in Old Town Pas. Service was great, I like the interior of this…read morerestaurant. It's a great space. A little pricy, but makes sense given the location in the epicenter of Old Town. I appreciated all the available options they had. Tonkotsu ramen, 8.7/10: Very comforting bowl of ramen. Chashu had a perfect ratio of fatty to lean pork and the sear on it was phenomenal. All the accoutrements on top were a nice addition. Corn, bamboo, and plenty of green onion all were great. I personally like the thinner firmer noodles, but the bowl still hit the spot. I also asked for firmer noodles, but they weren't quite there. The super creamy, fatty, pork broth really stood out though. The black garlic oil is top tier. Unagi, 8/10: Good buttery smooth piece of unagi. No complaints here.
