Overpriced and unprofessional. The shop was empty, and we should have taken that as a warning. The fish quality is not good enough to warrant these prices; the ootoro in particular was especially disappointing. We ordered multiple nigiris, rolls, and appetizers for our table. The servers and staff seemed to not communicate with each other, leading to slow and sloppy service. The nigiris came out much later than the rolls and the bowls, to the point where half of our party was done eating before the first nigiri plate came out. In fact, the service was so slow that the servers started to clear our plates while we were waiting for them to bring out our food The servers were awkwardly clashing plates at our table and being difficult about refilling the water and tea. After dropping $800+ as a table, we were waiting on one last nigiri (Yellowtail Belly) to come out. We asked our waiter to check on it for us, and he came back to us saying it should have been on the plate that had the other Yellowtail Nigiri on it. The reason why we brought this up in the first place is because the two didn't come out together. He then brings another waitress who tells us it should have come out already, and then another who tells us completely different information (i.e. it came out with different fish). Overall an unpleasant experience. Would not be back again nor would I recommend this place to anyone, especially since they made such a big deal out of $10 nigiri on a $800 bill. read more

A friend suggested this spot for a double date night, and wow... just wow. I officially know what actual good sushi tastes like now. The fish here is incredibly fresh, but can we talk about the rice? Because that's what truly makes or breaks sushi. It was so flavorful, had the perfect hint of vinegar, and the texture was spot on, not too mushy, not too hard. A few highlights from our night: * The Rolls: They are huge! Seriously, they're long enough that you could easily share one between two people. * Lemon Roll: Absolutely awesome and so refreshing. * Yellowtail Hand Roll: Fantastic quality. * Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice: A total must-try. We've been multiple times to the Sawtelle and Little Tokyo locations, always an exemplary dining experience. Rock solid consistent food and service. The same was true at the Pasadena location. Of the items we ordered, favorites were the cherry blossom roll, lemon roll, and happy hour white fish set C (included 2pc of each: yellowtail, snapper, kanpachi). I rate each of those three items 5/5 and so did my dining companions. I was less of a fan of the tiger crunch (in my opinion this was a 4/5 roll), but one of the three of us, the one who is a big fan of tempura crunch topping, LOVED this one. Crispy rice with spicy tuna is always a hit. Perfect texture and balance of components. Tea and water were refilled promptly and we were treated, as always at Enya, with kindness and suburb service. We were in the area and craving sushi, so we looked this place up and saw it had a lot of great reviews. We decided to give it a try, and we're really glad we did. It did not disappoint. Staff were very friendly and attentive and took good care of us. Big sushi bar wide open with the cooks all friendly and smiling. This place keeps popping up every time I try to search up sushi in the Pasadena area. Don't get me wrong with my 3 star review - there's nothing wrong with Sushi Enya, I just feel there are better spots to get sushi in the area. First of all, we made a reservation for 6 people - 4 adults and 2 babies. We asked for one high chair and they said they dont have any available. Turns out, the entire restaurant only has 1 high chair. They ended up offering us a booster seat 10 minutes after we had settled in as if they forgot they have that in storage. We ordered a few sushi rolls and nigiris. My husband and I opted for the Chirashi bowl. While it was nice that the chirashi bowl had roe on it, the size and the amount of fish on it definitely did not justify the $35 price tag. If I knew i had to pay this much, I probably would've opted for Mills Allley which is nearby with better options. read more

Quite honestly the most enjoyable sushi dining experience at a price point of $50-$150 pp in the United States. Supposedly there are Sushi Enya locations closer to where I reside on the west side, but I love Old Pas and the ambiance and quality of food here did not disappoint. The highlights of our meal were the Super Chirashi--which came with literally all of our favorite fish including a small spoonful of sweet uni and some extremely yummy tamago--the Cherry Blossom roll (a riceless Enya Special Roll, which means a dramatic presentation!) and the red snapper nigiri aka madai (served with yuzu paste and lemon juice). Although my husband felt that the amaebi was slightly slimy and wished that they served the hot sake in a way that kept the drink warm (you're probably wondering how I managed to survive his critical standards--you and me both!), everything else did not miss a beat. We noticed other customers were enjoying the omakase--the premium at the bar is $250 pp and the "lower" tier table omakase is $185 pp. everything looked delicious but I am also a control freak and enjoy being able to select what I want. With that perspective, the chirashi really was the way to go for me (and next time I'll just add on another order of uni!). In the end, Sushi Enya may not end up being our go-to omakase, if only because their other offerings are so good! A highly regarded sushi spot in Old Town that offers really good sushi and more. The vibe is casual and the presentation is pretty good depending on what you order. I had a couple of à la carte items and the Chirashi bowl to start off with. The cuts were really good and I could taste the care put into it. It's a good spot for sushi but when they look at you like you can't afford it and keep telling you the price of each item and trying to question you if you're sure you want to order the item? I definitely have a problem with that. I didn't get the memo that you had to dress a certain way and look a certain way to get decent service. Everyone around me seemed to be normal like me, so I really didn't appreciate or understand why this was happening to me. So not freaking cool man. That's probably my only gripe with this place besides the parking, LoL. I hady fair share of otoro, including in Japan. Taste, texture yes. But Sushi Enya - the temperature was perfection too. Sake pairing could have been slightly better or may be i drank too fast or too slow. Service was prompt and attentive. We were here last night, and honestly the host experience was pretty frustrating. There were about 4-5 tables open, but we were still made to wait outside in the cold. The host just walked around looking busy instead of seating us, which didn't make much sense. That said, the food was good. We ordered Chef No. 1 and Chef No. 2 rolls -- both were great, but Chef No. 1 was my favorite. The salmon sashimi was also our favorite dish overall, very fresh and tasty. Our fourth time back at sushi enya because my boyfriend says it's his favorite and I agree! Food is amazing from rolls to sashimi! Pasadena location has a convenient park and pay next to the business. When entering we usually get to choose where we sit.(we time our visits and come right when they open lol) Service is great workers are always attentive, filling up our water when it's almost empty, checking up on us when we are ready to order more! It's nice quiet and the bar seems like a nice place to conversations with the sushi chef. We usually order a couple of rolls and end up the meal with sushi if we're hungry. Wow! How refreshing to see a truly unique menu with creative options for everyone. As a vegetarian, my only choice at many Japanese restaurants is between a cucumber roll and an avocado roll. I got the Vegan Green Man specialty roll. However, I had a hard time deciding as they also offer asparagus truffle oil, sweet corn tempura and Japanese eggplant sushi rolls - flavors I have not seen on any other menu. My husband got the lemon roll and cherry blossom roll. HUGE! Everything beautifully plated in generous portions. Our waiter was fantastic. Sushi Enya was a great spot in Pasadena! We had a group of 6 and the sushi was delicious. They cut the rolls into small pieces which I really appreciated and allowed for us to share and take normal sized bites :) The staff were friendly and provided us with tons of ginger wasabi and water. There is parking in the back for $5 an hour which is pretty reasonable and easy to find if you can't find street parking. Overall I definitely recommend! read more

The best sushi experience my mom and I have had, ever. I don't know about you guys but nowadays I've had several disappointing sushi meals that were all within a reasonable price. So I decided to switch things up and go less frequently but instead when I do go, I'll go to one that's considered "expensive" but you know it will live up to a certain standard and quality. My mom and I ordered a sashimi set and also several different sushi orders (see photos) cuz I'm too lazy to name them all haha. After feeling pretty stuffed the bill came out to $300 (including tip) which isn't bad at all for great quality sushi. Also the service was amazing. Upon entering, we were both greeted with smiles all around including the sushi chefs. Grace helped us out and had such a kind and caring demeanor and respectful tone which I always appreciate at restaurants. She was also training another employee but she did it with such grace (see what I did there? Hehe), poise, and gentleness that was evident by the employee getting trained that he was being taught in a safe and helpful environment. My mom and I decided from now on we'll go on our sushi dates here for when we're craving great quality sushi. The first time I had their omakase, I had a great experience and loved it! This time around, I was very disappointed, especially since I was here celebrating a birthday. For this most recent visit, we made a reservation via OpenTable for the Enya omakase to avoid a long wait on a Saturday night. The Enya omakase is an 18-course meal, priced at $250 per person. At the beginning, it took a while for the staff to clear our table. It wasn't until our 4th course that someone came by to clear our dishes. After that, the staff became more attentive and constantly checked up on us. Our sushi chef was very nice, but he seemed a little stressed and made a few mistakes. I'm not sure if they were understaffed or if he was new, but I do wish we could have interacted with him a bit more. The sushi quality was good with decent presentation. Will not return ever and do not recommend for Omakase experience. I made a reservation for Valentine's Day dinner for two. From the restaurant's reservation description it was supposed to be a romantic Omakase experience at the back table but it was not what we were expected at all. We were seated in the back by the wall and the worst dining experience ever. After we were seated, within about 15 minutes we were giving the miso soup. After that, it literally took over 30 minutes to receive our first dish and it was cold(especially the sea bass). All the rest of the sushi pieces also took ver long and we were very disappointed. There are many other Omakasa restaurants in the area that are more reasonable priced and better ambiance. We definitely will not be coming back and do not recommend for the omakase for the price. read more

Ok, finally visited Enya last night and granted it was the evening before Thanksgiving, maybe they didn't bring their "A" game to the table. Where do I start? Let start with the drinks and food as that's why you visit a restaurant in the first place. We start with looking for a beer and the selection is sparse. Only draft at $9.00 a beer and small bottles. We want large bottles of Japanese beer with small glasses. The only glasses Enya had were large diameter highball glasses and whiskey glasses. The Food, they were out of most of the things we wanted, Saba Nope! Aji Nope, Engawa Nope! Come on, I couldn't believe they were out of so many items. Granted day before Thanksgiving. They didn't bring it in and were just serving all the old fish before they closed for thanksgiving. We had Hamachi Sashimi, soaked in Ponzu and jalapeño, Hated it. Hamachi was not fresh and was masked by the Ponzu. Not a fan of Ponzu on my fish. Second was the mirugai (giant clam) which was not fresh and the portion was incredibly small and thing for $16. Ike (Ike Sushi) serves the best mirugai. It's so fresh and he slaps it before he sets it down in front of you and it is actually moving (curling up) when you toss in your mouth. Sorry to diverge. It was at this point I asked for the bill, and cancelled everything else we put in, which wasn't much. One small beer, one order of Giant clam sushi (2 pieces) and one appetizer as that's where the Hamachi Sashimi was, with tax and tip came to $69.27. Never again. The Service, well I order in Japanese and get read back what I ordered in English. You work at Enya, the restaurant that touts itself as one of the best in Little Tokyo, granted this one is in Pasadena, it wouldn't take more than an hour or two a day to learn the menu in Japanese. Atmosphere: Lets just say the outside of the restaurant looks inviting and that ends right when you walk through the front door, plain, stark in design and didn't feel super clean. Think the old Nozawa restaurant in Studio City but dirtier. They need more staff period and it shows. I'll end this by saying we jumped in the car and drove across town to our favorite restaurant and had a wonderful meal. Should have gone there in the first place. Hope Enya reaches out to me and I can give them some advice to help their restaurant. One one more thing, don't have the chef behind the counter use a dirty rag, same rag used to wipe down his station, to clean the inside of a bowl of which he just put rice into. Parking was easy with a lot in the back, $5 for an hour and $10 for the day. We planned to walk around after so just paid the $10. At Sushi Enya, we noticed all the families with kids were seated in the back, while all the couples and adult only small groups were seated in the front. Naturally, we sat in the back since we brought our toddler along. The menu is a QR code on the table. Again since we had our toddler with us, we didn't opt for the omakase menu, but rather ordered some rolls. For our toddler, at sushi restaurants we typically order her a chicken plate with rice and edamame, but Sushi Enya only had salmon with rice for kids. We ordered it anyway, and unfortunately our kiddo didn't even touch the salmon. We ordered the garlic edamame for us and the regular edamame for our child. The rolls we ordered included the dragon, albacore fried onion, lemon, and yuzu. The rolls were good, nothing really with the wow factor, all somehow tasting somewhat similar, except for the lemon roll which I found to be delicious. My husband preferred the yuzu. They didn't have spicy salmon in stock so they replaced it with regular salmon on one of the rolls so I suppose we didn't get the full experience on that one. I truly wanted to love this place, as I had heard good things about their omakase, but for the price of their rolls, I expected a better flavor profile. I will happily pay for quality and flavor, but for me the value wasn't there. Perhaps this place is only excellent when you order the omakase, not sure. Additionally, at one point our toddler was upset cause she didn't like the salmon when we asked her to taste it. And of course we as parents we were trying to calm her down. But I found it rude that the manager came and stood right by our toddler to make her stop whining when we were obviously trying to calm her down ourselves. Had she gotten unruly, we would have taken her outside but it was just a whiny moment. Anyway, I don't think I'll be coming back regardless as I've found better simple quality sushi for less cost. read more
