Salmon yuzu miso onigiri
Amy L.

Small place selling onigiri, hand rolls, and more. Their onigiris are nice and soft - the rice is so warm and buttery! I've tried the salmon yuzu miso onigiri and it's fantastic. A little salty at first, but it's great. The miso eggplant one was a little disappointing because there wasn't much filling but might just be a one off. It definitely tasted more bland than the salmon yuzu miso but probably cuz the filling was disproportionate to the rice. I also had some cucumber salad and that thing was absolutely not worth the $5 so I'll stick to the onigiris and maybe try hand rolls next time. It was like half a cucumber or maybe one of those small Persian cucumbers drowned in soy sauce so it was really salty and then maybe some vinegar and chili oil.

musubi and onigiri tuna/krab

Newer location than the one in South Pasadena, took over a burrito place. Parking lot in back and street parking on Union. The onigiri were very good, I got the krab salad and tuna salad. The rice was excellent and plenty of filling. They also have egg and spam musubis, also very good. A good place for lunch and pretty cheap compared to most places these days.

Love Rice and Nori ! This location has a lot more indoor seating and more airy. There are a few seats outside . The service is quick and attentive . The food is fresh and delicious as always . I think they have a better snack selection at this location than the one in La Canada.

Spicy tuna. Avocado bacon. Beef. Mushroom. Shrimp.

Rice and Nori is pretty good. It is a good amount of rice and stuffing. The service is great. Explained all their popular items. I got a total of 5. I enjoyed all of them. The beef one is really filling. The one I liked the least was the spicy tuna. I thought it was gonna be poke style tuna but it was like tuna melt tuna. The vibe is casual so really easy to come for lunch. Parking is okay with street parking. Overall: Will return for onigiri.

Blue crab, yellowtail, and salmon rolls with salmon sashimi!

I've been wanting to try rice and Nori and the opportunity presented itself last week. I have really been getting into hand lately, especially with the new Kazunori that just opened up in Pasadena. I decided to try this place as well so I can compare the handles. Overall, the hand rolls were good and the price is affordable. I chose the 300 set which comes with sashimi and edamame as well and it came out to $23 after taxes. It's a good affordable light lunch or dinner when you're craving something seafood, but not too heavy. Also important to know that there is plenty of free parking located on union and when I went there, there was nobody else so there was no wait time!

Overall pretty good and the price is reasonable. I found the rice of the spam musubi to be somewhat bland, but the flavors of the nori fillings were on point. Very clean and simple decor inside as well. Def a good spot of a lil date

Rice & Nori is always a solid choice. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. I got the spam Musubi without egg and the spicy tuna hand roll. Service was excellent and the ambience was nice and clean.

I love it here! I'm so happy it's very close to me. They always have the fresh selection of sushi and very affordable for a weekday lunch. The staff is always friendly and quick to serve the food.

Cute little shop selling onigiri and handrolls. The onigiri are fat and delicious, and the staff are attentive and welcoming. The onigiri here are slightly more expensive than what you get at a Japanese grocery store like Mitsuwa, but the size and taste make these worth it. Plus, they sell Boss coffee!

Top to bottom: miso yuzu salmon, kombu shiitake, sukiyaki onigiri

Service was prompt and onigiri's were made fresh to order! Very casual spot and they provide cleaning wipes too. I'm pregnant so I can't have any raw fish. Thankfully, I could order the spam Musubi, sukiyaki, konbu shiitake, and miso yuzu salmon onigiri! It was so good. Honestly reminds me of the quality and flavors of time I lived in Japan!

5 hand roll set. Comes with Edamame and sashimi. Good stuff (Sapporo sold separately.)

Went to Rice and Nori for the first time. Good food, great service. I was craving some hand rolls and it hit the spot. Good little vibe going inside.

10/10 experience. The place was lively and super clean. The workers were so so kind & welcoming. I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for something delicious and affordable!

Not too bad considering a long line start forming outside. If you enjoy sushi hand rolls, KazuNori is the place to be. The design inside is very nice. Feels calm and the lighting was just right. Got their 6-hand roll set menu which included toro, yellowtail, salmon, bay scallop, crab, and lobster hand rolls. Can't go wrong with either one. All of them were fresh and delicious nicely prepared. Each bite of these hand rolls was satisfying to say the least. The staff were friendly refilling my water and asking if I needed anything from time to time. Really enjoyed coming here. Price isn't so bad also. Great experience and will definitely come again.

They have multiple locations across the Southern California area including this one near Old Town Pasadena. They do not reservations and you wait in line until there are open seats for your party. We came at around 6pm on a Friday evening and were seated immediately for a party of two. When we left at around 7pm there was a long line waiting so I recommend coming earlier. I recommend coming with a smaller party. They have different presets of hand rolls by count (3 to 6) where 6 is the most popular. The chef hands each roll to you individually and you're expected to eat it immediately to ensure the seaweed is crisp and the rice is warm. I got the 6-hand roll set ($29) which included toro, yellowtail, salmon, bay scallop, crab, and lobster. My favorites were the salmon, bay scallop, and crab. I also got the eel hand roll ($5.75) which was also good. If you want to be surprised, there's The Nozie which is their omakase style 6 hand roll set.

There are a number of small boutique stores located here. This Japanese restaurant was a great find when I was out walking. I was actually going to pick up some food at another place. I read some of the reviews to get an idea of what to expect and was pleased to find that the food here is very good. This is a takeout only restaurant. They cater and also Chef Maezaki teaches sushi techniques in the surrounding area. I entered the front door and walked to the large counter. I was greeted with a smile and a friendly hello. I asked a number of questions and realized that I must be talking to Chef Maezakl. He showed me the menu. He also showed me specials that they were offering. After taking some time I decided to order the special wagyu beef entree, and a spicy tuna hand roll. I sat down in one of the chairs available and waited. I could smell great aromas from the food being prepared in the kitchen. I was happy when my food arrived about 15 minutes later. I could sense his pride in what he had prepared for me. I enjoyed the complete dinner that was the wagyu beef entree. There was rice, pickled cucumber, California roll sushi, a special piece of fried chicken, and chicken gyoza. It came in a perfectly packed & arranged container, ready to eat. I'm happy to say the taste translated to a great experience in dining. The marinated beef was tender and flavorful. The chicken was moist tender with a crisp exterior. The cucumber salad was bright and refreshing. The fresh sushi was a nice touch. I went back another time to try the cold chicken ramen, a three piece chicken appetizer, and the tiramisu. I was happy with the fresh flavor of the vegetables in the ramen. It was a nice change. All I can say about the tiramisu is that it has an addicting flavor! I can't wait to have it again. It's nice that the parking lot accommodates all the small boutique businesses. There has always been plenty of parking when I was there. This shopping area with its boutique stores is a good find. I look forward to my experience at CM Ghost Kitchen.

Overall hits the spot for sushi fix. The only drawback is it's priced the same as restaurants which would have served two pieces of each fish plus uni and ikura etc. Although I will say I was pleasantly surprised at the tiny squeeze bottle sauces provided and that it tasted homemade (ponzu, yuzu, unagi sauce). May order again if there's a deal.

I personally like the thinner firmer noodles, but the bowl still hit the spot. I also asked for firmer noodles, but they weren't quite there. The super creamy, fatty, pork broth really stood out though. The black garlic oil is top tier. Unagi, 8/10: Good buttery smooth piece of unagi. No complaints here.

After more than a year away, I decided to give Osawa another try on May 8, 2026. Unfortunately, the experience confirmed why I had stopped coming. Around 9:02 p.m., my waiter came by to ask for last orders. I ordered chicken karaage. This is a simple dish that usually comes out in about 4 to 5 minutes. For whatever reason, the order did not arrive until around 9:26 p.m. -- almost 25 minutes later. It seemed obvious that the order had been forgotten. When the karaage finally arrived, it looked hastily sauced. Several parts of the chicken were unsauced, which is not how the dish was normally served in the past. Given the delay and the apparent mishandling, I did not touch the dish. A Japanese male manager wearing glasses then came over. He recognized me, and I explained that I had not been back for more than a year because of the food poisoning incident from fish in 2025. Instead of responding seriously, the manager smiled and giggled slightly, then launched into an irrelevant conversation about his connections in the Japanese food industry in Old Town Pasadena. When he asked why I had not touched the chicken, I explained the almost 30-minute delay and the problems with the dish. Rather than comping the item or offering a real apology, the manager asked whether I still wanted to eat it or would prefer to cancel it. He then ended the conversation by suggesting that I come in during weekday lunch for the $18 lunch specials. That response was bizarre and tone deaf. I did not return after a food poisoning incident to hear a sales pitch about lunch specials. I returned as a longtime customer giving Osawa another chance. Osawa's way of doing business has changed a lot. I've seen better customer service at Erewhon.

She only got miso soup and not the salad though. Food was pretty good. I did get a stomachache later but I think maybe it was just too much fried food or I just ate too much cause the fish tasted fine when I was there. There's only two bathrooms though - one for men and one for women. The one for women was out of order so they let me use the men's. It was clean. I just note this cause I dislike having just one bathroom for a fairly mid size restaurant. We also walked here so I'm not sure about the parking situation but I didn't see a lot so I'm guessing street parking on green or Wilson is what you'll have to do. The only other downside was that the couldn't do separate checks which always sucks in a group setting.
