Been here a few times. My first time was the best. They had a rock/goth night playing bands like korn, Gina and the eastern block etc and the girls were on fire. Every time after that has been bleh. We totally enjoyed our experience at Harvelles Circus of Sin. I give it 4 stars because the singer could have refrained from chain smoking on stage and the dancers could have worn costumes that were a bit more burlesque. Other than that, the seating was great, the food good, the waitress sweet and attentive, the cost spot on and the show/music fun and engaging! Highly recommend. Visited this venue for the first time last night to see their Star Wars Burlesque show. The venue itself is a basement space that is part of the Congregation Ale House. Space is not very large, dark, with a gothic sort of vibe, but it's clean and inviting. As far as the overall show, it was good, but there's definitely room for improvements. First off, if you are planning to see a show here, get a table on the floor because anywhere else will prevent you from seeing the entire show without barriers. Being that it's a basement space, their are huge concrete barriers throughout the venue and they block the stage. Floor seating is the only area where you have complete view of the entire stage. Secondly, the show itself I'd say runs slightly over an hour, and while most of the burlesque acts were entertaining, (some more than others), where they dropped the ball is in hosting. The host(s) lacked a certain degree of charisma, and failed to hold the attention of the audience throughout the duration of the show. In terms of service, our waitress Lisa was really nice and on top of things for the most part. I give her props because it seemed like she was literally overseeing everyone sitting in the lounge and floor seats so kudos to her! Overall, I would probably revisit this venue and see another show, so long as they are floor seats and not paid at full price. It was my husband and my first time at the club. The waitress was excellent and attentive and the music before the Sat 9:00 burlesque show was probably the highlight. We expected the burlesque to be the main attraction, not the band. It would be nice to have more variety of women as far as body types and also in their acts. Harvelle's - Music Venues Near Me - Long Beach, California

I just got home from this place and I am very annoyed at what happened tonight. I went to see a show at 9pm and ended up getting there 30 minutes early. I was seated by myself, the server (Mia) took my order (with a bit of an attitude), and since there was a two item minimum, I told her I would take a pizza with me to-go since I was still full from dinner. To my surprise, she quipped, "well you will need to remind me about 30 minutes before the end of show since I will probably forget." I've never has a server need a reminder to "serve" a customer. That was my second red flag. I waited for show to begin. About 15 minutes later, a couple was seated at the table with me which was fine. The show was pretty good, I particularly liked the music and vocals. The dancing girls were pretty good too. Mia, the server, came back during the show and got my second drink order, then the next thing I knew she brought one check to the table and gave it to the other couple...I thought she had remembered my pizza request and was going to bring my check later. The gentleman then tells me that my drinks are on his check. As I'm looking for the server, I see her talking with the host and I yelled out to her. Then he comes over to interject and say I need to server to put my order on a separate ticket. He then proceeds to try to explain/justify how there is ONE CHECK PER TABLE. I've shared a many tables at venues like this and have NEVER had my check combined with the party I am seated with. This is unacceptable. She said she could easily fix it if we gave her our two credit cards...then she comes back to the table and ask the other guy which card was his and if he was Reyes. He was Latino and I'm Black...it doesn't take a genius to perhaps figure that one out.....he and I both laughed. I never got my pizza to go. Needless to say, I left without leaving a tip...I was appalled and will not be returning this this venue. read more

Me and my wife attended the Circus of Sin on 7/29/2017. It was fantastic. The style of singing (his name is Toledo I believe), the way the girls danced; they were fit, beautiful, and the whole thing felt really tasteful and Artistic. It didn't feel like sleazy adult show. Pay the 25 for dance floor seat and enjoy yourself. The hostesses are very friendly and nice. Drinks are good. Really memorable experience! read more

Wanted to love it, but ...just....didn't. After reading the favorable reviews I looked forward to checking it out..and came away underwhelmed. I was hoping for an intimate setting with some good blues and jazz...a cool place to hang, drink and be entertained. Unfortunately, that's not what I experienced. The vibe at Congregation Ale House and it's cool downtown location should be a natural launch pad for Harvelles, located downstairs, but....the theme ended at the stairwell. For starters, the band was mediocre at best..and it was a Saturday night. If not for a harmonica, I'd have classified them rockabilly. Regardless, I'd hoped for higher caliper musicianship. Add to that, they were annoyingly loud. And this coming from someone that has the car audio on the "pain" setting on any given commute. I couldn't communicate with friends...or the cocktail waitress. If I want this decibel level, I'll go to a stadium concert! Setting - very cool, intimate, plenty of seating. Drinks - well poured and reasonable. So will I come back? Sure...anyone can have an off night. Everyone seems to agree that Thursday nights are a must see...so we'll try that next. Harvelles - I still wanna love you. Now as you all know I love to Review stuff. The burlesque show was Tops. They have different kinds of shows as well. So trust me when I say you have to go at least ONCE to this place . Don't be a Fucken prude ! This was my kind of place , the lights were Dem. Which was good cause some people look way better in Dem lights.. IJS The drinks we small but strong. Ask then not to put so much Ice and they won't simple as that. The waitress was sweet( Sorry i forgot her name. she had big boobs that's all i cared about ) .She was cool. She kept my drinks coming and brought the food hot. I gave 4 stars cause the chicken sandwich was a little on the drier than 1000 deserts side( I will tell you the 2nd reason in a minute) ! But, again, I am a fat girl . so the fries were Kick ass!! I think I have a fry fetish...Well that's nothing new ANYWAY. Sexy Bobby was adorable ! A-DOR-ABLE Serious ! he was cute, funny, sarcastic, shit talking and I loved him... YES MoFo's I know he was Gay geeez Get over it.. My boyfriend and I went to AHS show last friday, and we had such a great time. The dancers are very talented and the show all together was unique and fun! The only thing I would change is the seating arrangement, but it is a small bar and they make due with the space they have. but that was the only down side to the night! Every once in a while, you read a really bad review for a yelp spot & wonder if it's legit & maybe even put it in the 'complainer post' category. Well, you can look at my history and see that I'm more of a praiser than a complainer. So, please call your attention to the sheer audacity & downright criminality of my claims. It's my 35th bday on Tuesday & my fiancé gathered a group of friends to celebrate with me on Saturday at Harvelles. I've been here before & enjoyed the venue. We came to see DSB- a Journey tribute band. Actually cut my bday dinner short to get to Harvelles at 9 (the posted band start time) only to find out that they start at 10:30pm. When I asked, security tells me that they said that bc they want everyone there by start time. That was a bait & switch & a crappy move on their part. Later on in the night, I'm at the bar getting a birthday shot & see this gentleman start to rub my fiancés shoulders. I see some form of discomfort in her response, but decide to let her friends handle it. I come back to find out that the doorman named Mark had decided to come up to my fiancé & rub & caress her shoulders. She thought it was me. When she realized it wasn't me, she obviously objected to it & he responded with "it's ok, my mom was a lesbian too." Let me say that my fiancé literally just beat Cancer & has short hair as its growing back. This a huge problem because he just committed assault & battery & now offensively refers to someone's sexuality who just so happens to be a Cancer survivor. I decide to cool down & speak to Mark outside. I still can't believe he works here. Long story short, Mark immediately apologizes & says that he's the door guy who often messes up. I explain to him that "messing up" in this arena is completely inappropriate & is actually assault & battery. He decides to apologize & we go on about our night. I am in the process of getting a hold of the owner/general manager. It is my hopes that they will address this appropriately. I hope that I do not need to notify the press or notify my attorney or the BBB of this incident. If you want to come here, I'm not saying it isn't a fun place- we had fun bc we chose to not let this ruin our night. But I am saying, they have a sketchy crew there & Mark (although respectful & apologetic after the fact) appears to be a predator of sorts. read more

This place can be hard to find at first because it's underground. The vibe inside is dimly lite with a sexy, lounge vibe to it. I have seen a few different shows there and they have been OK but my favorite is Little Miss Nasty. Those girls are amazing! I try and catch them every chance I get. I love this bar! Very chill and good atmosphere! I love how they have burlesque shows and performances. I have gone twice to see The Doors tribute band and it's awesome. The drinks are good not so strong not to lame. Their prices are moderate. Maybe like $12 a drink. I have tried the fries they are delicious. I will be going back there! read more

First time here because our friends bought tickets to the Game of thrones theme night. I was like fine we'll go check it out. It's dark and small cramped place. It's in the basement of a restaurant. No tables were available so we met our friends at the bar. The only spot they found besides standing around. We ordered few pizzas, tater tots and drinks . Food was decent. But I couldnt see the show cuz too many people just standing in front of the bar and didn't care they were blocking us. Oh that's ok just stand in front us your Great Wall .. plus it's mainly women burlesque dancers they even play men characters. I was like so where's the men ? Maybe theres 3 men , I think. It's funny some what great for guys I'm sure. So if your into dark places with lots of rude people and plan to stand. This is the place. They need a bigger place and equal men and women actors/burlesque dancers. Just saying. read more

I really expected to have a fun time getting drunk and watching sexy dancers and enjoying some cool, sexy, & fun music.... I didn't. I have no idea what the show was about. Voodoo prostitutes in a New Orleans crypt? At one point a dancer on stilts appeared holding the long braids of another dancer like reins. Um...ok...??? You'd think that with such a crap show the waitresses would be hustling HARD to get your cash and get their customers tipsy before we realize the show sucks....you'd think....even they are over it. What really pissed me off, however, was how a disabled man in a wheelchair was treated. We arrived and waited outside for a bit. Meanwhile, this gentleman asked us TWICE to go down the stairs and ask them to send the elevator. Of course we tried to help him, not a problem there. He also was calling numerous times trying to get it done. What dicks. Not once did an employee come up to assist this man. And he'd obviously arrived early. Not only that, I saw him arrive in the club finally and the show had been going for about 20 minutes AND they kept telling him to move. Harvelle's: At least they treat everyone equally crappy. Ive been to Congregation Ale House several times and never noticed Harvelle's, a jazz and blues club downstairs in the same building. I stumbled upon the Circus of Sin deal on Living Social so decided to take my man out on a date. The description was interesting; it included burlesque style aerialist, contortionist, and fire play. I saw fire but once during the first song. Aerialist acts included a low hoop, and the pole dancer. The contortionist, I guess, is considered a flexible dancer who kicked her leg up near her head. Impressive........ The other girls just kinda hung about. I noticed one of them pestering men as they sat with their dates. It was a bit distasteful to watch, as she touched him and removed his hat. Props to the band though. They made pretty good music; Particularly, the key board/ trumpet player. I couldn't care for the singer, terrible voice..but good for a "circus" act, haha. Harvelle's club is nice, though disorganized. The leather interior seating and dim red light set a good tone for the musical theme. All in all, I'm not too mad- I spent $13, plus a couple drinks. But I felt bad for a couple beside us who paid full price and left early, because if you're not in the front somewhere..you'll miss much of the action. I'm curious about The Toledo Show, as many give it great reviews..but honestly, I don't think I plan to return. read more

meh... went to watch music and then jam. sound man showed up 1.25 hrs late, so the jam wasn't going to happen, so i left after watching some music where all i could hear was the bass & guitar. how someone sits at a sound board and doesn't realize that you can't hear instruments that are playing on stage is a mystery to me. whatever... a pretty cool-looking place. nice vibe. people who worked there seemed pleasant enough. customers seemed cool, too. i just don't understand promoting yourself as a music venue and then hiring a sound man who doesn't give a shit. that's like being a restaurant who buys dirty plates. had the show started on time, i would have stayed a lot longer and spent a lot more money. read more

I am so glad she picked this place because the burlesque show and the band were freakin awesome! I love the jazz, rock seduction sound of the music and the dancers are so talented! The management here should be arrested. They over booked a show last and was very unsafe that they had that many people down in the basement. We never even stayed for the show which we sat in a line for 1.5 hours and then we finally got down and decided to leave. Shame on you Harvels !! read more

I don't know if it's because of a change in waiters or staff or owners but I've always had an A+ time. The 1 star is for Harvelles, It took 1 hour 15 minutes to get in, the process of checking peoples tickets at the door was the worst I've ever seen, amatuerish in the extreme. I purchased a Groupon VIP table for 2 and emailed the venue before 4pm as directed by Groupon. I received a confirmation email within the hour letting me know my table was reserved. When I arrived, front door security were very polite and seated my date and I immediately. We were seated right at the end of the stage. We had several servers in our area, as seating was tight. They frequently asked if we were ok and brought drinks with little waiting time. The night we went, "Little Miss Nasty" was the event and wow! They were so awesome. Music was great, dancers were so beautiful and talented. I can't believe I haven't been here sooner! Harvelle's goes pretty hard for the Speakeasy feel, with a hard-to-find entrance and a "is it closed or open" vibe outside. Once you enter, it is a dramatic improvement over The Cellar, which was there before - the layout and decor is much better. Nothing over the top, but classy and comfortable. We went for The Toledo show, which is spectacular, and got good service both at the bar and at the tables. Sound system is solid, the drinks reasonably priced (esp. seen with LA eyes). The food is from Congregation upstairs, so expect well above average gastro-pub fare. We'll be back, and are looking forward to more good music. read more

The original Harvelle's in Santa Monica is the area's oldest blues club and a great place to get your live blues/jazz/R&B fix. We're lucky to get a Long Beach incarnation of this venerable institution to fill the void left by Blue Cafe and others who have come and gone on this block. They have done a nice job with the space and they get some amazing artists. There are some kinks to work out with the acoustics and the drink prices are a little steep, but it's worth it to have a groovy new music venue here. Long live Harvelle's in the LBC! read more

We recently saw The Amy Winehouse Experience @ Harvell's. Let me start with, I have seen all the reviews on poor seating and rude workers. This club is like two clubs in one, a VIP area that has great seats and good service and the outside seating area that is basically "every man for himself"! The doorman was not rude but rather dismissive, as well as the lady in charge of seating next to him, basically sad folks who hate their jobs. For the price, $40 for Amy, you get a great seat and nice service, if you can't afford that get ready to stand in front of seated guest and push your way to a better view. Lastly, the show was incredible, the band and lead singer killed it! We'll come back when they return, and of course sit in the VIP area. read more
