Harvest Fried Chicken is a small fried chicken joint, located in the Lisbon Center off of Route 94. The menu offers various piece meals of the fried, dinner options, meal deals (that come with a specific quantity with rolls and sides), bulk orders, and kid options. The hubs and I came here for an early lunch, and we had 1/2 chicken meal, that came with 2 legs and 2 thighs. For sides, we tried their potato wedges, their cole slaw, the potato salad, green beans, baked beans, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy, and the macaroni salad. The fried chicken was pretty tasty, and, if you're lucky, you might get some from a batch that was freshly fried - otherwise, the chicken was still juicy and had great seasoning on the skin. The sides were forgettable, except for the mashed potatoes and gravy - loved that the potatoes were dense and thick, and the gravy was also delicious, with a similar consistency. We tried their sweet tea, but it had an off taste to it, water was definitely preferred. The staff here are friendly, and it seems to be a favorite spot for the locals. We read an article on FaceBook about 7 hidden gems in your state and figured we should take a road trip so we drove about 45 minutes. The staff could not possibly have been friendlier. The side dishes were very good all way above average and the main event was the fried chicken. If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would it was that good and well worth the drive. We would never have found this place if it weren't for Yelp...and I kind of feel like I was led astray with this one. I appreciate good fried chicken, and not that this place was bad by any means, but it wasn't my favorite. I could appreciate how juicy and crispy it was; you could tell it came right from the fryer/pressure cooker to our table. But there was something in the spice blend that didn't do it for me. Combine this with mediocre sides (as mentioned by most other reviews) and the fact that the entire restaurant had that sticky floor/layer of oil on top of every surface thing going on, it just wasn't a great overall experience. (9/3/2016) Stopped by for a late lunch after a morning of fruit picking at Larriland Farm down the road. Conveniently located on Woodbine Rd. just on the other side of I-70. Harvest Chicken is an unassuming cafeteria-style place in the middle of a strip mall with a Food Lion and Dollar Tree. I got the 1/4 dark meat chicken dinner. The drumstick was room temp, but the thigh was piping hot, light crust, rather salty, darkly fried, meat was very juicy, and stuck to the bone. Sides were OK, mostly canned and boxed products, probably should've skipped them and just gotten more chicken. Also had a 1/2 lb. of fried livers. It's funny, I bet not a lot of people order livers, wherever I get them, you always get way more than what you order (like there's a fire sale or something). They fried them fresh for my order; the livers were very fresh and moist, nice crust, also very salty. Place was quiet when we were in there, just another family with 2 kids and the staff having lunch. Surfaces were pretty clean for a place where you are expected to eat greasy food with your fingers. Service was direct and efficient (and yes, reminded me of lunch ladies from back in school). I'd totally come by here again if out this way, but next time, will eat mor chikin. read more

I have had some great chicken here. Great sides, too. But I have also on occasion gotten pretty suspect food. Today for example, the fried gizzards had obviously been allowed to go bad and then washed with heavily chlorinated water to try to get the stink off. I waited for them so they wouldn't sit under the heat lamp getting overcooked, but when I got them hot out of the basket, they were overcooked. The cook must have been trying to cook the bad out of them. I got a whole fried chicken that was also overdone and with weird off flavors. The worst I have had there. Again, off tasting. Weird, as I have only had this kind of thing happen once before in the dozens of times I have patronized them. Many of those times the food has been very good. They know me. But to think they'd try to pull one over on anyone- least of all a regular customer - makes me sad for them. Something must not be right there. The sides? At times, very good. This time, awful. Plainly instant mashed potatoes, tasteless green beans, and freezer burnt cornbread. I wish I could give a better review. I liked the place. I liked the guys who run it. A completely random find thanks to yelp. There isn't much in this area, and after a full morning of meetings in Baltimore, I wanted something other than Subway for lunch on my way home. Its tucked into a nondescript strip mall, and the interior hasn't been updated in at least a decade or so. Which makes it the perfect place for an old fashioned fried chicken meal. First, five stars for the service. Super friendly and accommodating. As for the food, its hands down the best fried chicken I've had in the area. But compared to some that I've had down in Georgia and the Carolinas, its just not as good. It seemed to be lacking some the pepper and spices in the breading. The mashed potatoes and gravy were quite good, and the mac and cheese was ok, but again lacking in the spice department. We first tried this place a couple of years ago and finally had the chance to stop back when in the area hiking this afternoon. The chicken here is quite tasty but a little pricey for the sizes of the pieces (the legs were just a bit larger than most wings I've had) and most of the sides are not house made. I got the 16 piece with 3 large sides - cole slaw, macaroni salad and green beans. I did ask if the items I ordered were homemade and was told that the cole slaw and potato wedges were but nothing else but since my body was craving a vegetable I decided to go with the green beans and hoped that even if they did come out of a can that perhaps they had been "doctored" up a bit to give them a more southern taste - that was NOT the case. The coleslaw was really good, chopped fine the way hubby likes it; the macaroni salad was sweet the way I like but instead of being creamy it had the consistency of paste and I just couldn't eat more than a few bites. I was asked if I wanted to pay the upcharge to get the corn bread instead of the rolls that came with the meal, usually I prefer the dinner style rolls that come with a lot of chicken dinners, and in hindsight I probably should have paid the extra charge because the rolls were really dry, even with butter and jam I added at home, so these got put on the side to feed the birds. We also got an order of chicken livers for our dog which he totally enjoyed, then again he likes pretty much any part of the chicken. The biggest issue I have with this place that will keep me from returning is the fact that they add 4% to your check if you pay with a credit card and the only reason I know this is because when I was waiting for my order to be bagged up after paying I noticed a small sign taped to the counter explaining that policy - seems to me that if the cashier could ask if I wanted to pay extra to replace the cornbread for the rolls she could and SHOULD have mentioned this to me when I handed her my card because, even though I rarely have cash on me, I had more than enough to cover our check because I hadn't stopped by the bank to make a deposit yet. The place is filled with decorative chickens & roosters and they do have plenty of dine in seating not to mention bags of cold, fried chicken in the fridge for only $5.99 but this isn't somewhere I would make a point of coming back to, if I'm patronizing a local restaurant, I prefer one that cooks from scratch and that includes their sides not to mention doesn't charge me extra depending on how I choose to pay (it was hard to even discern if I was paying extra on top of the prices listed on the board or if I would receive a 4% discount if I paid with cash and now I will never know because there are other options in the area). read more

I've been here twice now, both times for pick up. The first was for Father's Day and most recently we placed a large order for our baby's baptism party. The staff is always friendly and the food is ready when they say it will be. My father picked up the large order which included 80 pieces of fried chicken (wings, breasts, legs, and thighs), one gallon of potato salad, two trays of green beans (each tray serves 10-15 people), and two trays of macaroni & cheese. We had opted with this place because of the great pricing. The food was delicious and our guests were very happy. I called three days prior and one day before the event to confirm. Amazing fried chicken. This place has been a local fixture for a long time. Not everything is perfect, but they make the essentials really really well. Their chicken is always fresh and delicious. I highly recommend getting their corn fritters as well they are delicious. They would be well served to make better macaroni and cheese but it's alright the chicken is amazing. Definitely in my top three fried chicken spots in the DMV! We drive to Woodbine from Aspen Hill...certainly worth the drive. The chicken is always hot and fresh, some sides could be better, that's why I didn't give it 5 stars. 4.75 stars is a better grade. Prices are reasonable and you may be able to buy some cold (refrigerated) fried chicken at a discount-if available. This can be eaten cold (some craving) or heats up well in toaster or regular oven. The young woman behind the counter was very friendly and the facility was well kept. The chicken is absolutely delicious, not sure how they cook it differently, but whatever they do works! The one downside is their sides. I got the mac-n-cheese and coleslaw, and was not impressed. To be fair they weren't bad, they just weren't good, just bland, nothing special. The chicken, combined with the canned green beans (they could have at least doctored them up), instant mashed potatoes and an overly dense, sweet and smallish square of cornbread - left me wondering why I was even paying for this. Three platters and three drinks totaling at $25.00. Three Hungry Man classic fried chicken dinners might cost $8., plus dessert comes with it. We've tried this place several times, and it's remarkably good. Look, the decor sucks. Seriously, its chicken theme looks like a 90-year-old grandma decorated a leased space in a strip mall. After dark, the fluorescent lights do nothing to make the place cheery, either. But get past all that. Or just get the food to go. Because seriously, the food is amazing. Their specialty is the fried chicken, which is crispy outside, juicy inside, and just enough grease to add that extra bit of flavor to the meat, and your fingertips. I haven't tried the wings or grilled chicken, but I have no doubt those would also stand on the same pedestal as the fried chicken. You'll also want to save room for the sides. Things like the coleslaw and baked beans are great accents (especially with big chunks of pork in the beans), or just go whole-hog and get a big serving of the creamy mac & cheese. The staff is always friendly and patient while you peruse the menu, while the people in line behind you may not be. When in doubt, let them go first - trust me, it's worth the wait. Harvest Fried Chicken is a very solid fried chicken counter with good sides that are toned down from the artificial and oversalted likes of KFC. I keep referencing KFC because the chicken appears to be made in a similar style (pressure-fried I believe?) and a lot of the sides offered (potato wedges, mac n cheese, green beans) seem to emulate their selection. Killer cornbread and toned down sides that let their natural flavors speak for themselves (in place of salt and MSG) show a lot of restraint, and cooking skill. If that didn't already sound delectable enough, the prices here are outstanding.
