Friday night is hopping at Hornet's Nest Grille! Wanted to try a new spot and landed on this one in Damascus. Got there at about 7pm and most of the inside was already spoken for so we sat outside on the front patio. We had Megan as our server and she was really nice and attentive. She even offered tasters for beers we wanted to try before getting a full glass. We got the side Cesar salad and side Garden Salad to start, which were really good, and then ordered the Double Sting Burger w/ onion rings and the Blackened Chicken Alfredo for our main entrees. Both were good! Megan recommended the chocolate lava cake with ice cream for dessert and I would go back again just for that. It was hot and delicious! Overall a really nice experience. Would recommend for great American eats.

Checked it out after a game with the kids and we were pleasantly surprised. The burgers were spectacular and so good! Figured it was a safe pic because it's a typical American food place but we were surprised it would be this tasty. We all got different burgers so we could taste different kinds. Will definitely be back because that jalapeño burger was too good to only have once this year. The service was quick and friendly. The ambiance was calm For a Saturday afternoon.

I wasn't sure if we were going to get seating on a Friday night as we could not make reservations. As we entered, there was a group of five people waiting for a table. But luckily for us, a tiny table fit only for two was available. It was all the way in the back! But that was totally fine. We liked our little corner. The place was definitely packed but our server never forgot about us. Back in our little corner were memorabilia from the local schools dating back to the 90's from what I can tell. It really had a nostalgic feel. To start we got the crabby rolls from the specials menu. It was more creamy than crabby. I tasted more of the cream cheese than any crab. For entrees we ordered the fish and chips and main street Madeira. The fish came in small filets that were the size of chicken tenders. Not a huge fan of the portion. The fries were soggy but glad that the coleslaw came in a lettuce pocket. At least that prevented the coleslaw liquid from seeping onto the fish and fries. The chicken madeira was fantastic. I almost never order chicken breasts fearing that it would be dry but this was not. The two breast meat was cooked in a madeira wine sauce topped with mushrooms and a mozzarella, fontina, and spinach cheese blend. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. I can taste the lovely wine. Served along the dish was red mashed potatoes. I love red mashed potatoes because it has a bit of the skin. I liked this dish a lot! Service was attentive, friendly, and fast. This place is a neighborhood gem. Not sure about parking. There was some street parking and there may be a lot next to the restaurant but from the direction that we came, we ended up parking across the street. A tricky crossing because the crosswalk was up the block.

I would prefer to give this place a 3.5. I am rating a 4 because this may just be my personal taste here. Although we have lived in the area for a few years now, this was our first time trying. The service was friendly and very good. The outdoor seating option is nice on the sidewalk, but we dined inside. The inside is designed as a single dining room with the bar running the length of the space. There were some TVs with sports airing behind the bar. The prices were very reasonable. The food was good. The portions were large and the prices were good. I felt like the flavor was missing something with the fish and chips and the same with the zucchini side. The grouper was pretty good. The mashed potatoes were very good. Overall, it was a decent meal and maybe another visit trying different food will change my opinion for the better.

We have been coming here for years. I have tried different things on the menu, and everything is amazing. Recently I have been hung up on the Main Street Madeira. I think the last 10 times, I have ordered it at least 7 or 8. Donnie's Orange Chicken is another one that I cannot get enough of. The staff is ALWAYS great and so pleasant to deal with. Fortunately, we are only about 25 minutes away, so it is convenient for us. However, I would easily drive an hour or so to come here and eat. They just do it right.

    Grapefruit Crush - November 2024

We were looking for a place to eat nearby and came across this spot - we liked that they had great ratings on both Google and Yelp. Parking was on the side and in the back. As we entered, I noticed a "2024 Best of Bethesda (Magazine) Winner" sticker at the front door - even better. I looked it up later and saw it was for Reader's Pick for Best Restaurant in Clarksburg/Damascus - good to know. As we sat, I looked around and noticed that everywhere within the restaurant was all things Hornet's - I guess it is a community thing or maybe it is a school nearby (not sure). We got their menu and I decided to try one of their crushes. They had several flavors, and I decided on the Grapefruit Crush. It was tasty even with lots of ice which never watered down my drink - I will have that again. For food, I had the Build-A-Burger, cooked how I wanted, with provolone cheese, tomato, lettuce, and ketchup (which was on the side). The burger came with fries, which I didn't fancy too much even though I ate it. Note that the lettuce and tomato are upon request (per the menu). Our food specialist was Fiona who provided excellent service. If I am in the area again, I would stop by. Visited November 2024

Came back with family and they all enjoyed their food. Not fans of the coleslaw but everything else hit the spot. We also had wings as starter and blue cheese sauce has blue cheese chunks in it which is great and adds to the flavor. Relaxed atmosphere and staff were attentive and friendly.

You'll definitely get a feel for the Damascus vibes here with sports jerseys on the wall and lots of hometown pride. The servers here are also super amazing! Very attentive and friendly. Food variety is quite plentiful, ranging from sashimi tacos, French dip, burgers and salads. Price point is also very affordable especially for the DMV area. Stop by if you're in town!

Always a good quality meal. Clean environment, friendly. But the real secret is the Orange Chicken! Amazing! Sometimes things happen and orders are messed up or "FORGOTTEN" but at The Grill, they make it right! On our carry out order the Orange chicken was not bagged up . Sadly we didn't realize until we got home,.... Called the restaurant,,... they checked the order and made it right. Went back and got it... and got a bonus discount from Molly for our next visit! Best Customer service ever. Thanks Hornets Nest crew! We appreciate you.

This was our first time here, as on prior occasions we found the line too daunting. We were surprised when another 4:15pm patron was led to their reserved table, but we learned that their planning and caution was well-founded. We discovered the popularity of Bolder to be well-deserved. Seeking lite fare for an early dinner, calorie conscious, we both navigated the tempation-filled menu with success. We thoroughly enjoyed the bison burger and turkey club, the latter being sufficiently sample for a split lunch the next day too. Service was rock-solid and very efficient. Despite being seated at a table for 4 at the busy entrance door, it was still nice. The service was great and the food was amazing! We started with a clam appetizer in a garlicky tomato-basil wine sauce served with fresh lemon and flatbread. It was very flavorful. I had the Strawberry Balsamic Salmon with spinach risotto and asparagus. This was the best meal I've had in a long time! The balsamic vinegar complemented the strawberry fresca salsa with red onions and the risotto was luxuriously creamy and mouth-watering. The asparagus complemented it all nicely. It's a good thing the portion was huge as I was able to indulge again for lunch the next day! My husband had the The Talk of the Town - Crabby Fried Green Tomatoes. The portion wasn't as big so he was easily able to finish itl. The fried green tomato slices were breaded and fried to a crisp and topped with pure colossal crab meat that was broiled a bit on top and it was all covered with a tasty red pepper coulis. We now can add Bolder to our list of favorite restaurants!

That's ok; every place has its own way do doing things. I waited. Noticeably, I was the only person of color in the entire restaurant. Still, I waited because no tables were available and they could see I was there. They made eye contact several times, walked by me several times. Finally, a table was turned over (very very slowly). I anticipated that would be mine since I'd been waiting and no one else was there. While the table was being turned over, another party came in. They were not spoken to either. When done, the woman who had turned over the table greeted them and walked them to the fresh table. She looked at me and turned away. I watched, confused. Someone who appeared to be a manager or owner hopped down off her stool at the bar having seen what happened, spoke to the hostess and asked me if I wanted to sit at the bar. I declined. I had waited and I wanted a table. The woman just turned and walked back to her seat at the bar. No apology (though she saw what happened), no indication of making it right. The hostess appeared annoyed but not apologetic and said nothing. I ended up leaving because the people there made us feel so unwanted - blatantly and boldly so. The servers work hard and are always attentive. Sometimes there is a bit of confusion when the person who delivers the food was not the same one that took the order -- the food sometimes being taken to the wrong table. The grill master is the one major variable when I order burgers. For one thing, I usually do not get the advertised full discount for the Wednesday night special. Things like cheese and add-ons can run up the burger a bit, but there always seems to be an automatic charge for cheese (either $1 or $2 up-charge) which I do not order. That is why I say I usually don't get the full advertised discount. Aside from that, there is wide variation in how the meat is cooked. "Medium" one night can be "Medium rare" or "Well-done" depending on the person on the grill. You best not order it "Well-done" unless you want to risk it being dry and crispy. The tacos are always excellent. Grilled or fried, either way is a diner's delight. The sauce has a nice burn without being too spicy. The two-taco meal may be enough for most diners with the three-taco portion being quite enough to satisfy. As far as putting Memories Charcoal House on my dining list, I will continue to patronize the establishment for its friendly atmosphere, cordial staff and wide variety of menu items.

I drink unsweetened tea most of the time so I'm constantly waiting for a refill. The good ... the food is generally tasty. The Bad ... they are charging $32.00 for a 16oz ribeye. I know they use Mt Airy Meat locker for their beef. The steak was seasoned well but had a tiny sliver of a bone for what they called a bone in. Also .... The nickel and dining is ridiculous. You get one side. And they upcharge for mushrooms or onions. In comparison... Longhorn service a 20oz Ribeye with 2 sides and bread for $32.79 So I got the Ribeye and about 6 stalks of very tiny asparagus. I actually like the small asparagus but not 6 stalks??? As far as the steaks go ... don't give me the local meat BS or the cost for a small business. Side cost little ... salad and potatoes are cheap. We don't go to this place regularly because of this ... so we end up with a $72.00 bill (wife got a Cesar salad with shrimp) and seltzer water with a lime. Result ... have to make something to eat after we get home. After dropping nearly $90 after tip. My wife and I prefer to patronize local places but these owners are making it hard. I was going to order the chicken wings and a side salad .... But ...$24 for 12 half wings is beyond ridiculous. The wing shortage is over but many places are hanging on to the price increase ... I'd imagine because they think the customers are stupid. Out of curiosity... I shopped a pack of fresh wings at BJs wholesale club to see what wings are going for. The price for an 18 pack is around $8.00. And that would make 36 buffalo wings since you only get half. Disappointed... food that we did get was good ... but value is somewhere close to a zero!
