So excited that I found this place. Back in Pittsburgh we have HUGE fish fry Friday's! Every corner every church. I was surprised to not find anything in upstate New York. Then I found this place. I got the fish fry dinner which was SUPPOSED to come w fries and coleslaw. However, when I got home ... no coleslaw which I was super excited to try bc it looked amazing. The fish was perfectly fried and breaded and I got onions rings instead and they were HUGE and delicious. I will def be back!!! We've gotten clams, shrimp, and halibut, and each was a huge crowd pleaser at our family gatherings. The employees are knowledgeable and very helpful when trying to decide what/how much to buy. This is the best fish market in the capital district currently. They have the widest selection, and even hard to find fish from time to time. They have had barracuda, and skate among many others. These guys know their fish. They can cook it for you, and it will be great, but you are better off taking their advice on how to cook it yourself. Do not deny yourself the pleasure of cooking a nice piece of black bass, char, or halibut. The fish is brought in regularly and cleaned and filleted on premise. Also try their salads and to go soups to go. They are made from top ingredients and mostly are quite healthy instead of the usually heavy stuff everyone else does. I come here about twice a week, and have done so since they have opened. The prices are fair albeit higher than supermarkets. You also get unparalleled quality for your dollar. You can tell when you cook. The fish does not fall apart like ones that have been frozen many times over. These guys know fish and food, and I wish them the best. They also have offerings from Chester's smokehouse. I have not had much from this selection, but the pierogies are very nice. I recommend the corn beef, but that is a personal preference. read more

I first visited this place when first opened many years ago. Today I revisited and was amazed what this family has done with this hidden gem. It's one of these places you don't always notice. I had the fried clam strips at $7.99, added some cole slaw and moms homemade clam chowder. Everything was fantastic, without a doubt the clam strips were the largest I have ever had. After reading about this market on Facebook where a friend raved about the place, I decided to give it a try. I ordered a dozen steamed clams and their seafood combination. The clams were very fresh, and tasty! The seafood platter consisted of one pound of haddock, shrimp and scallops. You get a choice of having the platter either fried or Pan seared. I chose the pan seared and it was prepared in a cast iron pan and sprinkled with a special seasoning which was excellent! There are 2 small tables inside and 5 outside. They sell fresh fish, clams, oysters etc plus some of the trimmings. The fish comes from Boston and appeared much fresher looking than the local supermarkets. I can totally understand why people give this Fish Market such a high ratings. read more

They had three different varieties of Chester's pierogi and a number of his smoked cheeses. And they have so much more than the fresh fish that they are noted for. As someone who visits the Cape on a regular basis, I have a great appreciation for high quality seafood. It's not so easy to find fish markets inland that compare to anything on the Cape, but Harvest Moon is one of the closest I've found in recent years. I was recently having a craving for a stuffed clam, or a stuffie (large quahog), as they are referred to on the Cape. I had a promising recipe that I wanted to try so I went there looking for fresh quahogs. I noticed that they had packaged frozen stuffies (house made) that looked good and were priced well. I also noticed that they had a package of two Snapper cakes (house made) that also looked good. That night I had a great Cape dinner including the baked stuffie and a pan fried snapper cake on a brioche bun. Both were excellent, plentiful of clams and snapper with the right amount of flavorful breading. I'm going back for the stuffed scallops soon and more of those snapper cakes. Also wanted to note that the staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable, with a nicely presented selection of fresh seafood and related products. Wow, diamond in the rough! I live in north Troy and was looking for a good seafood market, as the fish I used to get from grocery stores would smell bad upon opening and/or turn to mush after cooking. I'm so happy I found this market. It's a little joint on the end of a small plaza so you wouldn't think much of it, but I came here last weekend for the first time to get cod and it was AMAZING! So fresh and flakey/steaky! They had a really good selection of other fresh seafood, very decently priced fish, scallops, shrimp, lobster, etc. They also offer prepared foods like seafood stuffed sole, crab cakes, desserts like chocolate cake and tiramisu, all looked so delicious. So happy I found this place so I can enjoy seafood cooked from home again. Can't wait to return and try their other items. Very kind and helpful staff too. Plus, you know it's good when one of them tells you their grandma made the seafood stuffed sole that morning! read more

The only reason I gave the Harvest Moon two stars is because we stopped in yesterday for lunch (spent almost $70.00) and I mentioned to the, very pleasant woman behind the counter, that I purchased the colossal shrimp the last time I was in and by the next morning they were bad. She apologized and offered to replace them, I said no thank you. She then spoke w/a man there, a man that never waited on me before in my life, I overheard them talking and he said that I never purchased colossal, that I purchased the cocktail shrimp, ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I'm not a customer that spends the most there I'm sure BUT I know what I order, 4 of their colossal shrimp, 4 of their largest scallops, a piece of salmon, skinned, and once in a while I will purchase one of their homemade items in the show case. How dare this man get upset about the size of the shrimp and insinuate that I am saying something other than the truth FOR WHAT, 4 larger shrimp??? Besides that I had already told the woman that she did not have to replace them. SERIOUSLY, 4 shrimp, and treat me as if I would lie over the size of 4 SHRIMP?????? AND I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THEM MAKE GOOD ON THEM!!! 4 SHRIMP??? PLUS this man gave me a discarding look....4 SHRIMP??? Best fish in the area. Always fresh. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. We purchase uncooked most of the time but often ask to have it cooked. They will prepare the fish anyway requested. So you can buy with confidence. Prepared food is also available. Probably one of the best fish fries in the area. In addition, Chester's Smokehouse meats and fresh produce are available. The staff are very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Go out a support a local business! It's the only fish market we have. Had been there before and was not overly impressed, but it was late on Ash Wednesday afternoon and we were hungry, so we stopped in for a bowl of chowder. Accessibility: the store/restaurant are all on one floor, and there is plenty of room for even a large motorized wheelchair. Menu: consists totally of seafood and fish so if you have someone in your group that does not eat that go somewhere else. The price for everything is quite high, at about $2-4 more than comparable items almost everywhere else. I buy a lot of fish, and know about what the price should be for fresh, never frozen fish, and this is the most expensive I have seen in a very long time. We ordered traditional New England Clam Chowder. I am from New England, and still spend a fair amount of time on the coast of Maine. And I eat a lot of traditional New England Clam Chowder as it is one of my favorites. The portion size was as advertised, about a pint. The chowder itself was anything BUT a traditional New England Chowder. The clams had been pulverized into minute slivers, and the potatoes were itsy bitsy little pieces. They may have been confused with their corn and crab chowder, as there were pieces of over cooked corn kernels. The "stock" was so thick that a spoon stuck into it literally stood up straight and did not move when the paper pint container it was in was tipped 90 degrees. It had an odd taste -- perhaps sherry? No clam flavor at all. Actually very little discernible flavor. And it was an odd tannish gray color. The best part of the meal were the always reliable chowder crackers. I took a little over half home. On a positive note, my dog loved it and was glad I brought so much home to share with her. While other items are reportedly very good, if over priced, avoid the chowder. read more

Purchased the baked stuffed lobster tail small one (10.00) delicious.. stuffed with scallops also.. divine.... we also got the crab cake (6.99) very large and also delicious. My friend told me about this place I work in Clifton park and not much of varitey and I can only go so far hour lunch break lol so I gave them a try at first I thought it was just a fish store until a worker explained it to me I can pick any fish I like and they will make it how you want it fish was beautiful and the color was healthy looking I got a lobster roll omg there was so much chunky lobster on a butter roll the texture and seasoning was spot on I call them up let them now it was delicious! When I say there was chunky pieces of lobster there was lol very fresh you know the difference I meen its different from the frozen kind they use in chain restaurants.there a saying you get what you pay for well my friends that is so true I would rather spend money on fresh seafood it makes world of difference I recommend this place lady behind the counter very very nice and has a great personality!and explain how they operate thank you guys for the great hot lobster roll see you soon! I have been wanting to try this place and finally did. I ordered two scallop dinners with two sides, a haddock dinner with two sides and a lobster roll. It cost $57 first of all and I noticed the bags were very light but I took the dinners home and I was shocked at how little was in the containers. The two scallop dinners each had five medium scallops in them and two dried up pieces of coating. A couple of the scallops weren't even whole ones. I should have taken a picture, it was almost a joke. The shrimp macaroni salad sounded good but all it was was pasta rings, a couple tiny shrimp and tons of parsley leaves I had to add mayo just to eat it. The coleslaw was ground up and a pile of mush and we couldn't eat it. The lobster roll at $19 was also a joke, when we opened the container all that was in there was a soggy cheap bun and a few lobster pieces we couldn't believe we spent $19 on this and for the price I certainly expected much much more. We could have gone to a nice restaurant for the prices and got a satisfying meal. I feel bad about posting a bad review I have never written a bad review before but this bothered me so much I had to do it. I hope they improve their food and the amounts they give people. People expect a decent amount of food when they order not five tiny scallops, etc. read more
