My family is out of town so I went with my adult daughter Brookelyn. So here's my breakdown of what I thought. I had prime rib steak, and it was absolutely, positively fabulous! I finished all of mine, but my daughter could only eat half of it, it was such a nice, big portion. The steak came with a salad bar, a dinner roll, and I chose a baked potato as well. There were other potato options. There was also an option for gravy on my steak. The service was attentive, sweet and it was the kind of experience that my sweet tea was only halfway empty and it was already getting refilled. I was thinking while I was there that this would be an awesome date night with Tricia and they also had a full bar. I would totally recommend this establishment to a friend, and it's just a hop, skip and a jump away from the Quay by Sunni Sky's. read more

We went there last night for my birthday. It was a 'wow' experience! The steaks were outstanding, perfectly cooked, and seasoned. We got the Bourbon butter mushrooms--yum! My NY strip was good. Cooked perfectly to order. I do think it could have been seasoned a little more, but that's just my taste. I did have to salt it. The salad bar was basic but very fresh. I got the "steak fries" which were not really steak fries but but pretty run of the mill French fries. Had I known I would have gotten the baked potatoes. The rolls did not come across as "fresh baked" as advertised. I'd say at least a day old. Very dry. Took one bight of one roll and that was it. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts appetizer. Great experience with this new restaurant. I've been waiting months for the opening and was able to secure a reservation on the 2nd week. Wait area out front was spacious with heaters and access to the bar while waiting. Hostess staff was very up front on the status of our table through the process. Once seated the waiter took care of us as expected, salad bar was well stocked and a great appetizer before dinner. The head chef informed us that baked potatoes were running behind and offered several alternatives. We were happy to accept the fingerlings as they were exceptional! The chef did bring a few baked potatoes to take home once ready but again continuously checked on the table to make sure we were happy. One of the best ribeyes I had, will return soon! read more

Went here for my husbands birthday dinner tonight and was very disappointed. Good news is my husband's steak was very good. It was flavorful, juicy and well cooked, hence the two stars. That's where the good news ends. The rest of the food and experience was pretty underwhelming. I ordered the chicken & risotto dish and for $29 got a pretty dry piece of meat on top of a pile of mushy cheese rice. My dish was not good at all. The risotto lacked flavor and was not at all creamy like a good risotto should be. The chicken was not at all juicy and was jsut really not interesting at all especially for the price. In general the restaurant was very over priced. As I mentioned the steak was actually quite good but usually a $50 come with a better atmosphere and experience all around. The sides were also very overpriced. The Mac n cheese was pretty decent but the mushrooms were super boring and also $15.... The service was mostly good. Everyone was very kind and welcoming. My main complaint regarding the service is how they handled my lack of satisfaction with the meal. When asked how everything was, I was honest and shared my disappointment with the chicken. When they came back to the table they apologized and said part of it would be comped. When the bill came I was shocked to discover that they had only taken $10 off the bill. I still paid $20 for a bad dish that I took 2 bites of .... I can count on one hand the amount of times I've had to send my meal back at a restaurant but every time I have the dish was taken off the bill completely. This was very strange to me that they only took off $10. The atmosphere was also confusingly casual for a steak place which I guess is fine especially given the location I want expecting anything fancy, but then the pricing should have reflected that instead of having comparable prices to an upscale steak house. Again if I'm paying $50 for a steak, $15 per side, and $30 for chicken, usually that comes with a nicer ambiance than this was. The experience was nowhere near worth the $120 we paid and sadly we won't be going back. I went back and forth between giving 2 stars or 3 but ultimately decided 2 was the better choice since the experience was below average, not above. 1 star for the steak and 1 for the friendly staff. Everything else kinda sucked. read more

Went there for Valentine's night and loved it. Service was great and the food was amazing. The only negative is that the restaurant is pretty small and pretty loud. There were lots of tables really close to each other, but maybe they had the tables for two divided up for Valentine's?? The filet and fingerling potatoes are excellent. With the salad bar, the price is reasonable for an upscale steak house. The cocktail menu $13 and wines $9 are solid and reasonably priced. Decent selection and very tasty. So would have been 5 star, however, the coordination of the meal was a little off ( timing of cocktails to dinner arrival) and after discussion with very super wait staff, we received an apology from them and the owner. Both were great and the issue handled nicely. We saw this as a start up flaw that will soon be worked out. But the reason for the five stars is the owner and his welcoming and charm with his customers. CS is at an old time low, this gentleman put the hospitality in what you would expect in the south. Absolutely a winner! My spouse and I visited Saturday night for our 40th anniversary. Both of us started with our usual G & T's, which were delicious with Mother Nature gin. Went to an early dinner at Harvey John's restaurant. First of all, staff is absolutely top shelf all the way. They were extremely attentive and so very polite and friendly. I had the boneless Ribeye steak cooked medium rare. It was very good, cooked perfectly and served hot. My only complaint is the price. I would equate the quality of the meal as the same as Longhorn Steakhouse. I think if you don't mind the high prices, you may like this restaurant. read more

Angier has a secret. It's called Harvey John's Steakhouse. I live in the next town, Fuquay Varina, and was pleasantly surprised by this establishment. The food at Harvey John's Steakhouse is truly exceptional, and the staff's service is top-notch, always hitting the mark. This was a Thursday, our date night, and we wanted to try someplace we had not gone before. We are glad we ended up there. I had the 8-ounce sirloin, and my wife had the snapper, both great choices that came with an excellently stocked all-you-can-eat salad bar. The food here is on point. I had a RibEye steak, medium-rare, served under a bone broth and it melted in my mouth. My wife had the burger which she raved about. Sides (finger potatoes) were ok, I wished they had sweet potato fries. The meal came with a revolving trip to the salad bar which was a nice touch while we waited for our food. The wait time was 1 hour, but we saddled up to the bar and got our meal served straight away versus waiting for a table. Alcohol drinks are on the weak side, especially for the price. A heavier hand will go a long way here. They had a non-alcoholic beer choice for me, which was appreciated. Cool ambience in the place, GREAT main course quality. I thought the price was exactly where it should be for a quality steakhouse. Be mindful that alcohol pricing will add up quickly here, especially if you have more than one. I didn't come here to drink - I came for a good quality steak, and that is exactly what I got. Definitely coming back and am looking forward to that night. read more

Well we finally tried the new place in Angier and I'm not so sure we will be in a hurry to go back. After being told it would be a 50 - 60 minute wait, we waited close to an hour and a half for a table. They really need more space for folks to sit while they wait. Appreciated the heaters though. The rhythm of the service just wasn't there. Waited a while for our waitress to greet us, waited a long time for our drinks (one was a water and a Pepsi) and got our meal before we had time to take two bites of our salads. Asked for extra butter for my potatoe that never came and waited forever with empty glasses for our waitress to stop by. Again, took too long for refills. The salad bar was good. The steaks were okay but didn't care for the butter compound they served on it. If you have to put all that on it and o give it flavor, you don't know how to cook a steak. I don't need a lot of seasoning on my steaks anyway. I guess what is the icing on the cake is that it seemed that the manager came by every table but ours to have some sort of connection, even when he walked by and saw my husbands steak was not even half way eaten. Folks who arrived just after us were just being seated as we were leaving. My husband said his steak was horrible. There were quite a few bites he had to chew and chew to get down, and one he had to get the drink napkin to take out of his mouth. He also said his was too spicy. Too noisy. Too crowded. Everyone who walked by hit his seat. Go to Heath's in Dunn or Beefeaters in Southern Pines. Both are way better! read more

We had high hopes for this place! Watched it as it opened in December, and gave it a while til work out the kinks. We clearly didn't give it long enough. They recently changed the menu. Unfortunately they got rid of the steak kids meal. This was a horrible business move. My 6 year old loves steak. We frequent Clayton steak house a lot. They have a steak kids meal. They literally cater to kids and families. Harvey johns used to have a kids meal with steak and now no longer. Why? Our food took over an hour. We watched 6 groups get their food and LEAVE before we ever got our food. The appetizer took 45 mins! They also forgot a drink of ours. Then forgot my daughters side. It was horrible. The salad bar is tiny. The bowls are tiny. The ranch dressing was LIQUID! The filet for $55 was totally over done. The owner was walking around like stalking people. Do not got to the place. I would love to see an expanded Brunch menu. I know this is new territory, but you have all the ingredients for a nice omelette, hash etc. etc. My shrimp and grits were wonderful. A different take on what I serve at home, but it had an almost popcorn smell and feel about it. I could only eat Half at the time, as it was so rich.
