Harvey's is a respectable and reliable dry cleaner. Their prices are competitive for the DC area, always provide timely service and flexibility on that service, and their hours are great. They're open in the evenings on weeknights and Saturdays nearly all day, which is hard to find in the DC area. They take a lot of pride in their work too! read more

I have used the alteration services of Harvey's Customer Cleaners for the past two years. They are expensive, but the end result has always been great. The past two visits have been less than stellar. Alterations were not completed on the date that was indicated on the slip, even giving extra time for services to be completed. Today, when I went to pick up a jeans that were altered, two items that were not completed from a previous visit two weeks ago were still not completed. Needless to say I asked to be given back items that had not been touched and will be looking on Yelp for another alteration service. read more

The first time I used the service, it was great, although overpriced. The second time, they made excuses why they couldn't get out the stains and wouldn't even try. After the third time, I stopped going to them. The seamstress is also way overpriced, besides being incompetent and unprofessional. The clothes were never ready when promised, always with excuses. Came in to get a couple hems repaired on a shirt and blazer and the price was very affordable. Also neeed straps shortened on a dress and the women there gave suggestions to make the dress fit even better. When I came to pick up the dress it fit wonderfully! I used this service once because i was in a hurry and regretted it. They ruined one of my shirts and tried to cover up for it. I understand that things happen but they were just dishonest and flat on lied. They first told me that the shirt would be ready on friday, then they explained they need until saturday. Later i found out that they were trying to "fix" the shirt in this time instead of telling me there was an issue. They tucked the shirt between other items so i couldn't tell something was wrong until i reached home. Unfortunately i was travelling that same night and couldn't go back. The shirt was in an nonredeemable status and i threw it away. On top, this is the most expensive dry cleaning i used in DC, so you would think you would get your money's worth, but no. Family owned and run (I know this because they were fighting like family members when I walked in one day... ahhh... made me homesick...) I've been getting my clothing dry-cleaned here for 2.5 years and am very satisfied. They are fast and my clothing is returned clean/undamaged. I've never had a broken button or ripped item, nothing has ever been lost, stains I didn't think would budge are removed, and clothing is well pressed. I can't speak to price as convenience (hours/location) and quality are how I choose a dry-cleaner. I usually park easily on the street; I avoid metered spots, but it's so quick you likely can get away without paying. There's also a small parking lot out back for the retail in the building & it's close to the Cathedral Commons garage, which you can have validated at Giant/CVS if you pick up any items there. read more

Had been looking for a new tailor after poor-mediocre experiences with a long-time/much-praised G'town shop. Harvey's did a beautiful job on a variety of pieces, including somewhat complex changes to make a dress fit properly. They were also able to make alterations - and quickly! - that the G'town shop said weren't possible. Great customer service, too. read more

I've had a bunch of jeans tailored here, at both the hem and waist, and the work is great. You can't even tell they've been fixed. Wonderful hemming and alterations. Bring the shoes you wish to wear. Local policemen get their uniforms altered here--that's trust! Just want to add, I first reviewed in 2011. It's 2016 and I'm still getting clothes hemmed here. It's nice to have a neighborhood place and to feel well-taken care of. read more

No complaints with this place. I've had dry cleaning done and they got some pants with dirty hems cleaned like new. Have also taken a couple of suit jackets and pants to be tailored, and happy with the results. Very nice people as well, great neighborhood place in McLean Gardens/Cathedral area. We have been using Harvey's for decades, and it generally does a good job, with some of the ups and downs you should expect from such establishments. Alterations have been fine overall, and there have been many of them. This weekend, with cold weather setting in, and heading out for a four-day trip, I packed a favorite oversized (Ann Demeulemeester) wool pullover that was unopened and still wrapped in plastic from its cleaning here at the end of last winter. When I pulled out the sweater in my hotel room, it looked a bit small, and indeed it was. Although the sleeves were almost the right length, the body barely cleared my chest. Loosely knit, soft and reliably warm, my transformed sweater was as comfortable as a girdle, dense, cooked -- obviously washed in hot water and thrown into a dryer instead of being dry cleaned or gently hand washed and dried flat as its care label instructs. When my wife (somewhat reluctantly) brought it in to the store, the owner said it looked like a child's sweater. The proprietor was very angry (and she and her sons can be brusque, even rude). The bottom line: she said that her store had not cleaned the sweater because they do not wash wool sweaters. And then turned her back on my wife and walked away. Which I guess is what we should do. read more

I have had them alter countless things. Even re-make some jackets that had shoulderpads and wide armholes. They do a fabulous job on anything from evening gowns, dresses, skirts, jackets and even jeans. So great! I trust her with my best couture items. read more

Overpriced, rude, and take forever to get anything done. I've recently had some alterations done to multiple jackets here, and each time they tell me it is going to take longer than it should and each time the jackets aren't ready when they said they would be. On top of that, when I said something about the jackets not being ready on time, they made excuses and yelled at me. In short, stay away. read more

I recently had my wedding dress cleaned here and it came out much better than expected. My wedding was 7 years ago so I've been incredibly negligent about getting this done. The dress is pretty simple, no lace or beading, but with some stains around the hem and they did a great job cleaning it up and putting it safely away in a box (it's not technically "preserved" which is what I requested). I called another big wedding dress cleaner in our area and showed them photos of my dress and was quoted a price three times what Harvey's charged me. It took about 2-3 weeks but, after 7 years, I was in no rush! The service was friendly, helpful, and I wish I lived closer to them so I could bring all my dry cleaning there. DO NOT get any alterations done here. I took a simple maxi dress in to get the straps taken in a little. I put it on when I got home and it was uneven. My husband even noticed which says something. I went it and had a terrible response. NO sorry and she could not even fix it. I left the shop with the straps not even attached. Its like she cared less. AVOID this place !! read more

I took one skirt and one leather dress to the tailor to get shortened. She messed up the zipper to the dress and the sewing on the skirt came undone after a wash. Getting both things done was incredibly expensive and it was shoddy work. Please don't go there. read more

I had Harvey's clean a trench coat and the buckles were ruined. It was a costly service, but I assumed it would be worth the cost. When I pointed out the damage to the employee, he brushed me off saying that this is just what happens to buckles with cleaning. I have had this coat cleaned many times with other cleaners without incident. Very disappointed with the service and the outcome. Will not return even though they are across the street from my home :( read more

Always been overpriced but continued to use because of convenience but took a dress there for spot cleaning - gave them a week to do it- on the day I was leaving town went to pick up and they not only did nothing to it but didn't call me to say they didn't spot clean (after person who checked me in said they did). she didn't even apologize for completely screwing me. I've lived next door - in Vaughan Place - for about two years, and used these folks the whole time (despite there being a pick-up service for an alternate dry cleaner in my building). They've never shrunk a shirt, damaged a suit, or done anything else wrong. Meanwhile, they've consistently given us good hemming, alternation, cleaning and all their services. Plus, heck, they remember us. There's something nice about it being a family that runs it, instead of just a business. A great local asset. read more
