Must stop in for lunch. Had the aussie meat pies twice while we were in town because they are truly something special. Had both lamb and beef meat pies and both were amazing. i went up here today around 9 because i had wanted a little breakfast since i hadn't eaten since i got up this morning (4:30) i grabbed a yogurt parfait and ordered a brown sugar almond milk latte and they were both pretty good! my parents think i'm a bit of a coffee snob too - it has to be iced, i like it a certain way. cold brew is good, it's smooth, and i always add a little flavor (plain coffee is bitter!) so i feel like a good review coming from a little bit of a coffee snobish person is maybe worth paying a little attention to? i'm not sure. the inside is cozy and the merch they have is from what i saw displayed nicely. read more

Unfortunately our experience here was both overpriced and disappointing. Two extra-shot oat chais set us back over $20 dollars and neither of them had much flavor. For $10 a drink, we were disappointed to have our beverage taste mostly like just warm milk. read more

I went into the cafe after visiting the Maple Syrup farm this spring for their open house. I have been back twice now. We ate a yummy lunch the first time, meat pie and homemade soup. The second time I went in for breakfast and had the yogurt parfait and a muffin with a steaming cup of coffee. I experienced exceptional service both times and could not leave the shop empty handed! Their food products are amazing! I have tried the maple/raspberry jam, the maple/cherry granola, Madagascar vanilla infused maple syrup and the cutest little maple sugar cubes Need to return for more granola for my morning yogurt! read more

The Maple syrup is really good, I purchased regular and three-bean. We wanted to try some pies but we were told they only had two available and didn't offer up anything else. I know we are all trying to deal with Covid-19 but this was not the only place we visited on our trip. And everyone else seemed to be happy and trying there best. They just seemed indifferent here. Shame, the place is really neat looking. We were not impressed and can get Maple Syrup elsewhere on our trips to this area. We will NOT be back! read more

Very attractive layout in a great corner location. A lot of careful thought and went into the design and furnishings and displays in this space. As a retail outlet for syrup, pancake mix, granola and other locally-produced food products, this appears to be a happy success. As a cafe though - maybe not so much. The menu is limited in scope and in hours. And if you are coming in for a cup of coffee first thing, there are no sweets to accompany your latte - just savories. They're tasty enough, but not everyone's palate is adjusted that way before lunchtime. In the universal scheme of star ratings, I'd probably assign 3 here ("not a favorite but nothing offensive about the place"), but it always annoys me that Yelp associates 3 stars with "A-OK!", which is a little too chipper and favorable. So - two stars. "Meh" about captures it for me. read more

We recently stopped at Harwood Gold for a bite to eat while waiting for our ferry ride to Beaver Island. The business has amazing curb appeal but we were most curious to stop in as they had recently taken over the empty corner storefront that was formerly the longtime Murdick's Famous Fudge. The warm and woody interior renovations were so well done that you wouldn't know it had been a clinically white candy shop - although they did save and creatively reuse the substantial marble fudge slabs as table tops. Love it! Harwood had a dizzying array of upscale condiments for sale including what seems to be their mainstay - maple syrup products. They also have a limited fresh menu of savory pies in a variety of meats and a lentil & veggie that was delish! We accompanied our order with some rosemary potatoes. The meal really hit the spot and the friendly service topped off a great experience. So glad to see an awesome business filling this iconic Charlevoix location! We will be back! read more

5/5 based on the meat pies alone. We tried two different kinds (beef, and chicken and mushroom) and both were amazing. I'm not a big coffee drinker but the others in our group said the coffee really hit the spot. Its a cool place they have a lot of various jams, syrups and specialty sauces you can shop around and buy while you wait. Service was super friendly, it was just one girl working but she did a good job of making everyones order. Great place to grab breakfast. read more

I love a fancy latte and was very happy when a local-ish family recommended Harwood Gold. I had a maple almond milk iced latte and almost bought all of the specialty pumpkin spice items and fancy balsamic vinegar while I waited for my latte to be ready. Atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff is also really friendly. This place is great to enjoy a cup of coffee, get some work done, and grab a quick/light bite. My favorite is protein bar with a iced latte. So many good products made of pure maple syrup. Only minus is the metal chairs, cold and uncomfortable. A place to stop by if you're ever in Charlesvoix! This unassuming shop at the side of the lakefront wharf was a beautiful find. It was an interesting combination of coffee shop, Aussie meat pies vendor and house-produced maple syrup and related products store. Further research shows that this was the byproduct of an international alliance / love affair of the owners. I'm not the best coffee connoisseur, but I had no complaints about it. I tried the beef pie and it was scrumptious and crusty even heated up two days after. Finally, last but not least, the maple syrup products!! There were probably 15 infused maple syrups. My favorites were the Michigan lavender maple syrup, three bean maple syrup (ingenious combination of coffee bean, vanilla bean and cocoa bean), and ginger root maple syrup. I thought the bay leaf maple syrup would have been great for cooking as well. It was awesome that samples were set out welcoming tasting, and that they used compostable spoons for this. I could see people coming in here to get coffee and pouring in some infused maple syrup to try that in their drink. Other than the infused maple syrups, the blueberry lemongrass maple preserve was a unique find that I could not not buy, even though I seldom use preserves on my own. It was literally chockful of blueberries. I wasn't as impressed with the savoury maple products, but that could be personal preference. Where it could improve - customer service! You kinda get the feeling that they're the typical huffy "I produce the goods well and I'm too busy for you, you either want to buy or you're out" when you ask questions, as opposed to having that warm enthusiasm and desire to share about all their products. Also, they need to bring their products to all over Michigan, country-wide, and international! Truly unique products that I've not seen before. (Maybe start with Amazon, chain groceries and in particular one Zingerman's in Ann Arbor?) I need a way to top up my products when they're empty! Also, imho this would make a much better local present than an alternative like Cherry Republic. read more

Stopped by for some coffee and a treat. My husband ordered a small pie and I ordered a cookie. The cookie was giant! Took up an entire small plate. It was tasty though! The coffee was pretty good. We enjoyed our treat with a view of the art fair and the water! My favorite part was the tasting bar where you could taste all their maple syrups! Very unique flavors and worth tasting. We would love come back and try lunch hear. Later learned that this maple syrup is harvested on the land next to my grandparents home! read more

Update: I like this place but it's kind of frustrating. They now serve breakfast pies, but nowhere is it posted that they cost more than the other pies. You only find out when they ring up your order. How hard is it to post the price on the sign? Likewise with the salads. They are fresh and delicious and used to be made to order. Now you get them out of a cooler, which means no changes. They have a printed menu at the cooler which lists add-ons like chicken, but nope, they "no longer do that." Again, correct the information, please! Good spot for a light meal. Aussie pies, salads and sandwiches. Very good coffee, and they've recently started offering juices and smoothies as well. We've only had the pies, but the salads look amazing. Taste their maple products while you wait for your food. A little on the pricey side. read more

Wonderful!!! The salads are fresh, the food is excellent. The staff is friendly and quick. They have good coffee lattes, etc. They even have a veggie version of the meat pies. They also have a wide variety of maples syrups infused with many different flavors such as peppers. There is a tasting bar to try out the different flavors. read more

Had an amazing experience! Came up for Mother's Day and loved the visit. Beautiful decor- loved the tables made from the old fudge shop! I ordered fish tacos and my husband the fish and chips. The tacos were delicious, the toppings so fresh- black beans, corn, tomatoes- tasted like right from the garden! The fish and chips wasn't you standard greasy dish- which we loved. The fish was put together in a delicious breading and baked. The sauces on the tables were delicious. Everyone's meals were fresh and wonderful. We had cherry pie for dessert, and took some Aussie pies home. We live in traverse and will definitely drive back for a fresh, inspired meal! My husband and I saw Harwood Gold from the street and I was drawn in by the unique decor and window displays. While all the different flavors of maple syrup and jams were impressive, everything was incredibly overpriced. We considered getting an egg breakfast pie to take home, but it was $40!! I could take my family of four out to breakfast for that same price... My husband splurged on the $6 nitro coffee, and he says it's very unique and growing on him, although he didn't care for it at first. My iced mocha tasted like chocolate milk, that is luke-warm. It wasn't even mixed and I would get random mouthfuls of chocolate syrup and then plain coffee. It was also not very cold. We won't be back. read more

We really want to love this place, but there are some issues we think the owners should address. We found out the hard way that they serve meals only between 11 am and 3 pm. We had picked up one of their menus the day before and decided it would be a great place for a little dinner. No where on that menu did it indicate their restricted hours. And no where inside the store is this information posted. We were told that there is a small sign on the front window, but she said that no one sees it. We can vouch for that. They DO sell their Aussie pies after 3 pm, but unfortunately, they are sitting under the heat lamp and by the time we ordered two for our dinner at 6:00 pm, they were pretty dry, not quite hot, and the crust was quite tough. We had already ordered the pies and paid for them before I understood that they were not going to come with the greek salad and fries, as indicated on their printed menu. Just an Aussie pie (which has been sitting too long) isn't enough for dinner. So we walked back to our cottage to fix a salad and bread to complete the meal. It just wasn't a pleasant experience, and one that could have been easily avoided if they made their meals hours clearer in several places, especially ON the menu! When we were there at 6 pm, 2 other couples entered and were disappointed that the full dinner was not available, so we were not the only folks expecting to get dinner at Harwood Gold tonight. The DO have terrific coffee, however. We think they are the only good coffee place in downtown Charlevoix at the current time, and we really want to support them in this endeavor. Still .... a problem. My husband has been ordering a medium coffee with one shot and being charged over $3 for such. When we consulted the printed menu today, the price should be $2.60. So we are not sure if they were ignoring his request for one shot and giving him two? Or just over charging him. Even though my review is somewhat negative, we DO plan to come back when we are in town in the fall to buy some maple syrup gifts for folks for Christmas. I hope that my review will be seen by the owners so they can make some fixes to make their customer experience and expectations a little better. read more

This is a nice looking place with a lot of delicious sounding food choices. We did not try the food, only a mocha. For a large, I didn't think it was very big, maybe 16 oz. I couldn't taste the coffee very much, but they did have several milk options and I appreciate that. The prices are too high and the girls, although friendly, were not very customer oriented. read more
