Twas a fortnight ago that I found myself ravished with hunger. HaSalon was a reasonable distance from my place of employment, and the venue was bustling with lively patrons, hence my interest was piqued. When I approached the front door I found myself taken back; for this was no ordinary door, but an enormous gate with an intricate design. The etchings of devils and serpents were decorated into the stone slab and they peered into my soul. I grasped the skull shaped knocker, hammering the ring against the granite frame to a resounding clonk. As the door slowly creaked open, I saw rats and bats and vermin scurrying out of the entrance into the dark cavern. The stone walls glowed in the luminescence of torches but the pathway flowed only into darkness. A large golem stood before me, one eye protruding of his skull like a fish and he was adorned with yellowish, decrepit teeth. If he was smiling I can't say. His mouth seemed to writhe like an earthworm and I was overwhelmed by a suffocating smell of rotten eggs. He stood silently, his bloated eye piercing me with an ancient evil that only the very depths of hell could conjure. Silence. A silence as loud as thunder and as quiet as space. "Is this... Is this HaSalon?" I mustered the courage to ask. The ogre nodded menacingly but continued to hold his tongue. "Can I get something to eat?" I added, my wilted words reverberating through the dark halls. "The blood is pure," he bellowed out in a booming voice. "The King of shadows shall enter his bride and the Begotten Flesh Eater shall reign again supreme." He began leading me up the staircase. I was on the verge of tears by this point, yet I was unable to turn back and flee. Some torrential force was pulling me deeper into the bowels of this Godforsaken pit of despair. I had to see it through... for Yelp. The world needed to know. I saw heads pinned on spikes as I entered the dining hall. A medley of morbid aromas opened my sinuses. Rotting blood, sweat, urine, death itself. A more putrid scent could not be concocted in a lab. The towering monster led me to my table. It was a large slate of igneous with two stools on either side. I lowered myself slowly into the seat as the beast lay upon the table a tacky menu. "Tonight's special," he screamed, "is pan-fried salmon with orange reduction and savory baked potato". "Well, that sounds good," I said. "I'll have that." The tall creature cackled menacingly, his exposed eye listing away lazily. I shouted in terror, but no sound exited my throat. I was muted by fright as the waiter made his way behind a wall of tapestries depicting battles between demons and lost souls. I waited there, trembling. I could still leave, I thought. I could bee line directly down the stairs the way I came, but my legs wouldn't budge. I knew I was trapped here, for better or for worse. That arcane force keeping me in my seat. A power that was thought gone from the earth many eons ago. It wasn't gone, I now realized. It was hibernating. Waiting for humanity to reach a peak. Waiting for the right time to bring about the eternal season of misery. The food was not as I expected. In front of me was placed a slab of crimson meat, drenched in blood. It seemed to glow an iridescent golden hue that was barely perceptible. It was served by a winged wraith whose eyes glowed red as he passed through solid walls. "Here lies the cervix of a virgin maiden. Eat that you may be cleansed of the forbidden light." the spirit chanted in a musical tone. His voice echoed both physically and psychologically. It tore holes in my essence. The food wasn't the worst I've had, but all the other stuff was a bit much. I think it's not for me, and certainly wouldn't recommend. read more

This was a solid experience but I felt the place is over-hyped and over-priced for what we got. I should have requested the left overs to be packed after our girls night but alas, I can't go back in time. The place is fun, people are dancing and everyone is friendly. They have good music so it's nice for a gno. The food was good and I especially enjoyed the garlic lettuce salad. I then tired to replicate it at home a few times at no avail. Definitely a cute place albeit left a mark on the wallet (and they have minimal order rules). read more

Eggplant with mozzarella was good, mushroom pan was good, hummus also was good too. But I eat better ones at Israel, Amman, Beirut and Türkiye... Ambience was good too, service was fast and our waiter helpful. Only thing was we wanted cancel the reservation because of our friend. She felt sick. But still they wanted charge 75$ per person. So this is why she push us to come, but unfortunately she felt worst and we didn't eat the food... I wish when we call for cancellation they believed us. She wanted to forward us to customer service. HaSalon has to be one of the most interesting restaurants I've been to. In terms of the food, everything we had was very good, but I would be lying if I said that it was amazing. While there were no complaints, nothing really blew us away, and we were honestly a little bit underwhelmed by the food. I love the uniqueness of each dish and the way that the menu is structured. It's such a refreshing change from the typical restaurant menu. However, the execution while good, wasn't anything outstanding. Regarding the service, it was beyond great. Our waiter and everyone we interacted with couldn't have been nicer and more attentive, and we really enjoyed the service that we received. Now onto what I think is HaSalons biggest attraction - the ambience. This has to be one of the most fun dinners that I've been to in a bit as just as we were finishing our meal we got up on the table and were dancing with the entire restaurant. Overall, I would say that while HaSalon is good. I don't know that I will be running back. This will definitely be a special occasion type spot for me. Food was delicious, The night started with a complimentary tomato and onion pizza like bread with labneh, then the bluefin toro tapas were served on a rock and extremely flavorful and butter-y in texture. The ricotta clouds were extremely soft and tasty but for me lacked an exciting aspect/flavor, felt like something I could make at home for a lazy dinner and they kept the sage leaf in the plate when served which I dislike. The tartare carpet was not in any way reminiscent of a carpet but wtvr, did have a lovely flavor and was also presented on a rock. My star of the show were the Jerusalem artichokes cooked in a dashi butter sauce which were not only cooked perfectly but had a beautiful burst of flavor with every bite. Ambience wise I do agree with the majority of reviews that say it is only worth the price if you go to the second seating. I went on a Saturday night and the party rly started around 10:30, shots flowing and people on tables. My biggest appreciation of this restaurant is the authentic Israeli atmosphere both the hostess working and my server were Israeli and many other employees I saw as well. Overall HaSalon is a lovely restaurant with slightly overpriced but delicious and creative food, where to make your expense worth it you have to be seated past 8:45pm :) read more

If you know what to expect going in, you will not be disappointed by this fun spot with good vibes and good food. The basic premise here is a late evening dinner that turns into a brief party and ends in dessert. The experience is broken up well and transitions smoothly. The party portion is between 1030 to 12 more or less. Be prepared to spend 4 hours here and factor that in when you consider the price. The crowd is mostly mid 30s. I got a martini at the lounge bar while waiting and the glass came chilled out of the freezer which I always appreciate. The food is quite good for a spot like this. The prices are, in fact, outrageous especially given that some dishes come with literally just a few bites of food. The menu is notoriously confusing. They sent out a focaccia on the house which was one of the best I have ever had anywhere. The hiramasa carpaccio is really good and is paired with salt and olive oil. The branzino (lubina) was juicy and served hot but does have bones. The Hell's chicken is really juicy and filling but could use more seasoning. I had the steak on a separate occasion and remember really liking it. I would skip the lamb shank as it is a bit one note in flavor and crudely plated. I would also skip the sardine sashimi and ricotta gnocchi (7 bites for 40 bucks is a joke). I always have a great time here and plan to come back more than the 4 star rating may suggest. The food is expensive for the quality but is tasty and in the end you spend just under 200 a person for a 4 hour miniature night out. read more

Know what to expect before going! First of all, as a foodie and a city girl, I've never seen such an insane markup of every single item on a menu. You would think that with the prices they had there would be way more food. However, it makes sense given the $120 food (not beverage) minimum per person. The food was decent, nothing to go nuts over although the short rib was pretty fantastic. Despite all of that, people go for the PARTY. It's a fun scene without being disgustingly crowded. Around 10pm everyone starts dancing on the tables to great music, the staff gets into it, and we even jumped into a conga line with the other diners. Go for the fun, not the food. Came here to celebrate a friend's engagement and I think will be my last time lol. It wasn't necessarily a bad time/food/~ vibe ~ per se, it was just a pricey dinner experience I'm ok just trying once. Food and drinks tasted fine and our server/service was good at least. We were a party of four and ordered a little on the lighter side but bill came out to a little under $300 per person (which did include tip and two shots, a cocktail, and bottle of champagne split per person). Alcohol definitely adds to a meal's price, but the food sadly was also really expensive in general for size/quality. Ricotta clouds (handful of cheesy gnocchi pieces) was $34 a plate, $39 for a small leek and fennel galette, $51 per plate of mushroom pasta... etc. Hard to recommend dishes when the price tag doesn't quite fit the taste/portion. Overall, HaSalon offers pretty tasty, fairly expensive bites and becomes quite the dinner and party scene if dining in during the "second session" (anytime after 7:45). After having gone to Kyma shortly before Hasalon, the expectations were set that Hasalon would be similar. It was not. Though the food was very solid, the music selection was truly terrible. Some Israeli hits were sprinkled in but overall the bulk of the music was nostalgia junk American pop. Unlike Kyma that kept their music consistent with what you'd realistically find in Mykonos or places of the like. read more

I was INCREDIBLY surprised how amazing of a restaurant and experience we had because the reviews are not accurate. The food was beyond delicious, the service was impeccable and fantastic. Our server was dancing with us once we ate! We did a conga line around the restaurant as they played old school throw backs and people danced on the tables. Lucked out with a counter seat directly in front of Eyal Shani himself, and I got to watch a true artist at work. I was mesmerized when he peeled the skin off beautiful tomatoes with a huge knife, at times not even looking, but knowing exactly how to make the perfect cuts. Cutting the thinnest slices of fish for carpaccio, angling the cuts of his cucumbers beautifully. Hats off to this artist. On to the food. Our first dish was the 12 foot long pici noodle. It was delicious, and I found myself wanting to lick the bowl clean to get the last bits of delicious cheese from the sides of the bowl. My husband asked Eyal what kind of cheese he used because we both loved it so much. The pizza has a hint of pepper in the sauce that made it unique, and the dough was so fresh Shared the apple crumb for dessert which was also delicious. At about 9, the restaurant transformed into a different place. The bars on the windows came down, the lights dimmed, and it became somewhat like a night club - with cool Israeli music. Very fun place. I've been to HaSalon in Tel Aviv, and wasn't sure if Eyal would be able to bring the same "living room" feel to New York. HaSalon NY seems totally trendy, yet still did have some of the living room feel that the name connotes...All of the chairs in the restaurant are different, which I loved. The servers are extremely fun and personable. The restaurant is total lively - bustling with noise, music, etc. My one complaint - the price tag. The pasta was about $32 and was way small for that price. Dessert was $28, and although very good, seemed way more expensive than dessert everywhere else. However you are paying for quality. I don't know why I didn't go on Yelp and read the reviews before I came here. I came here a couple of weeks ago and I waisted so much money on horrible food and a boring weird ambience. The chairs were uncomfortable and mine was broken, from the appetizers to the main food was all gross. No flavor and dry and just horrible. The drinks didn't hit, I tried to get a buzz but after 3 drinks and still nothing. I'm honestly saving you all money by writing this review. Stay far away. Wow ! What' the hell happened. My wife had raved about this restaurant for two years so we were eager to try with our friends. The environment is busy and cool, as you would expect. The music is deafening ... and now we know why.... It was a distraction from a revolting and highly disappointing meal. It was a total disaster.... The waiter was nice enough and talked us through the variety of dishes. They all sounded great on paper, it would have been better if they had stayed in their description. Bread came out with yoghurt: harmless. Bread salad, a hodge podge of damp bread drenched in some over ambitious Ceasar style dressing. We toughed it through. The first true disaster came in the guise of an octopus dish. Absolutely foul. It was tough, rough and felt like it had been the last piece in the discount section of the fish section at Trader Joe's. We sent it back... the waiter tried to justify, but we didn't need to hear it. And so to the glorious meat dishes. Rib eye - wow what a gut punch. It looked good, was served well and tasted like absolute dog food. It was as if the flavor had decided to leave with the octopus. We all tried it and all reached the same way......SEND IT BACK! We had one more dish - the kebab.... Burnt, a meaty flavor that u should never have with me a kebab. Just all wrong. And back it went!!! The waiter looked defeated and sent over some half wit manager who looked like a cross between uncle fester and a low level Long Island mob guy. We explained the situation and this obnoxious, arrogant fool started to tell us the issue was our taste buds. I pulled him aside and explained how the restaurant business works, since he was clearly interning... or at least his experience showed me that. He sent us a dessert, but not without reminding us of our tastebuds being defunct. I didn't point out the fact that the customer is usually right. Apparently not at Hasalon. Celebrated my bachelorette here. I was nervous because of reviews but I had the best time and the food was 10/10. My entire group and I can all agree the entire time we were in New York the night we came to Hasalon was the best night of the trip. This place is great for family style Israeli haut cuisine. The food is artfully prepared and very fresh. Everything is made to order and displayed in the open kitchen. I had roast eggplant and a hanger steak. They were both delicious. The hanger steak had a lot of coarse pepper on it. I love pepper so it was perfect for me. If you don't love pepper, tell them to go light on it. Aleph, the attached craft cocktail bar is amazing. Highly recommend both. read more

The restaurant caters to large groups and has a very festive atmosphere. We came for the 1st seating at 7pm, but be aware that the one at 9:30pm is when the party takes place. Prices were absolutely indecent for the quality of food presented and about double of what you can expect to pay anywhere else in the city for similar quality. Dishes are expected to be shared, but it's quite shocking to pay $30 for 2 slices of eggplant or $24 for a small salad with mixed greens. The kebab was actually very good, but at $125, I'm expecting more than an 2 feet long focaccia topped with 2 grilled tomatoes as a side. This is not Per Se or EMP level of cuisine, and I can't fathom how they are getting away with charging such exorbitant prices as the restaurant was packed. I must say that the level of service is actually more shocking. There are probably 15 people in charge of service walking around at all times, but the entire operation feels like a money grab. There are no proper glasses for champagne, they use ballons for everything! Moreover, the wine specialist/manager pushed back, saying that the wine card only has renowned producers, when we told him that we didn't like the bottle that we tasted and wanted to order a more expensive one. I have never witnessed this type of behavior. And finally, our server dropped our $24 for 6 slices of tomatoes on the table while serving, and we had to eat it right off the paper table cover! No apologies or acknowledgement. Chipotle has better service than this. Please save your money and go party elsewhere. read more

I cannot fathom the mixed reviews on this restaurant! I actually thought about canceling our reservation last night, and I'm SO GLAD I didn't! Our entire evening was 10/10 from start to finish. We had a party of 6 to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday and I was expecting a good time, but overpriced food and lousy service based on these reviews. I'm a *major* foodie and everything we ordered was perfection from the cocktails to the pasta with chanterelle mushrooms to the Dover sole, and even the salad! Our waiter helped us make sense of what to order, and his recommendations were spot on. Every table was packed and they do an incredible job of creating a party with the music and lights. As for cost, we did not hold back and ordered about 6 appetizers and 4 entrees for the table, along with several rounds of cocktails and 2 desserts. The total came to about $125 per person including tip, which was extremely reasonable for everything we got (including the entertainment!) The only thing I would note is that this place is LOUD. Like don't expect to have meaningful conversation. But if you want a super fun night out with incredible food? It's HaSalon. I'd go back in a heartbeat. read more
