Dinner at Danny's absolutely lived up to the hype. We went as a group of four and had one of those meals where everything just kept getting better with each course. We started with a few appetizers to share: the ham & cheese hot pockets, chopped kale salad, and crispy tuna on crispy rice. But the standout for me was the kale salad. It was fresh, perfectly dressed, and honestly one of the best salads I've had in a while. For mains we went all in and ordered a mix for the table: the cheeseburger, steak frites, rosemary fried chicken, and agnolotti. We couldn't leave without dessert, so we shared the chocolate chip deep dish, which was warm, gooey, and perfect for splitting. Managed to snag a last minute resy for 6:45pm on a Wednesday night. We've been trying to go to Danny's for a while for the infamous burger and martini pairing. We were seated super quickly. The place was packed and super loud, but we had a nice booth seat. We both opted for dry martinis with a twist. They were made super well and came ice cold. Surprisingly price was $23 despite being able to pick what type of vodka / gin we wanted. For our app, we shared the bluefin tuna tartar. It was AMAZING. Came with the freshest tuna and avocado and two different sauces - spicy mayo and regular. The chips were dusted with the most delicious seasoning. I wish i could order those on the side. For our mains, we both got burgers medium rare and shared fries. The fries came dusted with the same chip seasoning so that was delicious. The burger was amazing, but it was so juicy that the bottom bun got super soggy! The meat tasted super fresh and you could smell the beef. Love the fresh crispy lettuce, caramelized onions, and house sauce. I just wish the bottom bun didn't get as soggy, but maybe that's because they cut the burger in half. While super delicious, a burger and fries puts you back $45! We were really full by the end of the meal so had to skip the cookie skillet. Trendy, dimly lit spot, I got a last minute reservation on a Tuesday. The restaurant was pretty busy, packed by 8pm. The kale salad was a great starter, large, shareable portion, a little heavy on the dressing. The tuna crispy rice was delicious, served with black rice which was very crispy. For entrees we shared the fried chicken and the Lumache (bolognese pasta). The fried chicken was fried to perfection, served with a buffalo sauce and a sweet biscuit. The pasta was underwhelming. The deep dish cookie had a hint of salt, undercooked on the inside. The specialty cocktails were good, I don't like that they are pre batched so you can't make many modifications. Service was a bit slow and there is a time limit on the table, made us move to the bar area. Not much space near the bar and some seats were reserved so you can't stand by the bar either. read more

From the moment, Ari - a greeter at the entrance - welcome to us, the service and ambience was top-notch. Serce, our server, was delightful and so helpful in choosing drinks! This "neighborhood" restaurant charges a service fee with your reservation. It's not a cancellation fee, it's a fee that you pay if you don't cancel and choose to dine there. This is a big overstep in an industry that is supposed to be focused on hospitality practices. To do this in a restaurant that is fully booked every night is just such a gross business practice. We were able to walk in at 5pm for a party of two. We didn't have to sit at the bar. It was a very dark pub like atmosphere in the front. I didn't go further inside to look. I got the Paloma. It didn't taste alcohol forward but I did feel the drink at the end, which is surprising since we ate so damn much. We shared the elevated hot pocket. I was surprised by the sweetness. They must have been brushed by a honey glaze. I felt that the sweetness took away from the hot pocket. It took away from tasting the small piece of aged ham. We got the smoked salmon crispy rice. The rice was almost too crispy. The chopped kale salad stole the show. Unlike other places, it came with an appropriate portion size. We shared the burger and the lumache. Both were good but not amazing to come back for. If we come back again, we would try the other pastas. Lastly we ended the glutinous dinner with the chocolate chip cookie with mascarpone ice cream. I got a weeknight reservation here for bar seating. If I went again I would try to get a proper table since the bar was a different experience. Where our seats were could get crowded depending on how many people were walking in. The ambiance of the main dining room is much different than bar. For drinks, I ordered the Olivia's highball. It was a really fresh slightly tart cocktail. We ordered the spicy tuna crispy rice and the deviled eggs to start. I normally do not like deviled eggs but I really enjoyed Danny's take on this dish, it had Calabrian chili and is very yummy. The crispy rice was also very good! For main, tried the bolognese and the agnolotti. Someone at the table ordered the burger with a gluten free bun. The bolognese was seasoned super well, and it had a lot of flavor. The agnolotti was in a vodka sauce with a crispy topping. For dessert, we had the cookie skillet which is topped with a scoop of vanilla with a praline drizzle. Danny's managed to turn what should have been a pleasant evening into one of the most bizarre restaurant experiences I've had in New York. Toward the end of our meal, two friends stopped by to say hello. They simply wanted to join us for a glass of wine and dessert. The restaurant was winding down for the evening, we were seated in a booth with available space, and multiple tables around us sat empty. We invited them to join us, ordered dessert, and our waiter was happy to take the order. Moments later, a hostess named Ari came over and informed us that our friends were not allowed to sit with us, could not order dessert, could not order cocktails, and had to move to the bar. When we pointed out that there was clearly room at the table, we were told it was a "fire hazard." Oddly, the supposedly hazardous chair had been sitting there throughout our entire meal, had been provided by the restaurant, and appeared identical to the chairs at virtually every other booth. The explanation made no sense, but what was even more disappointing was the attitude. Rather than handling the situation with any degree of grace or common sense, Ari stood over the table and repeatedly insisted that our guests leave. It was uncomfortable, embarrassing, and completely at odds with the concept of hospitality. Let's be clear: these were not people trying to squeeze into a packed dining room. The restaurant was half-empty, they were invited by paying guests, and they were actively trying to order more food and drinks. Most restaurants would consider that a positive thing. What I still can't understand is why Danny's was so determined to prevent willing customers from buying dessert and wine. To make matters even stranger, our waiter later told us that the situation was ridiculous and suggested we contact management directly. The food was fine. The hospitality was astonishingly poor. For a restaurant that clearly wants to be taken seriously, this was a remarkably small and inhospitable way to treat guests. read more

Sometimes you walk into a place and you really get a special feeling, whether it's the music, the aroma, the decor...but I wouldn't say that this place was anything overly impressive in terms of ambiance, vibes. I was kind of hoping for that considering all the buzz this place has been getting though. The staff were cordial and friendly. Service was on point and had no issues, but not above and beyond either. For the food, truly enjoyed the smoked salmon crispy rice. That was a bite I could've had over and over again. The deviled eggs were a touch too salty and mushy for me. The Caesar salad was good but had more croutons than lettuce, and I'd prefer the opposite. Tuna tartar was delicious. The gemelli pasta was really good too. And the burger was truly the best dish and a can't miss, but I was so full by the time I had it, that I don't think I was able to enjoy it as much as if I would've if I had just had that. The sundae was a decadent and fun to way to end the meal. Overall, I'd say the meal and experience was a good one. But not so outstanding that I'd be dying to return. There's a lot of hype around Danny's, and while having a good ambiance and dishes, overall isn't worthy of the hype. The smoked Ora King Salmon rice cake was probably my favorite. The pearl oysters, salmon and rice are always a great combo and was simply delicious. The ham and cheese hot pockets are one of the social media stars and was pretty good. Chewy cheese, honey and hot dough was worth reordering although they do they annoying trick of giving you three and upselling a forth. The Caesar's salad was bland an unmemorable. The biggest disappointment was the rosemary fried chicken. Dry and too salty, it was just a mess. The only redeeming part was the maple biscuit but this was still not enough to save it. Huge fail. Portions large enough to be filling, taste somewhat unique, presentation clean and attractive. Service was attentive but not overly so. Liked that a lot. Thought everyone actually cared whether we were enjoying our meal and whether we needed anything. In other words, meaningful service, which we very much appreciated. Caesar Salad - loved it, delicious dressing and the mix-ins were very nice. Surprisingly delicious, because it's just a salad. Pretty substantial portion. Lumache Bolognese - even better than the Caesar. Nice sized amount, and excellent. Enjoyed this a lot. Every dish had a slightly unique taste, and this one was memorable. Cheeseburger (with a la carte fries) - also excellent. And again, a unique taste with the sauce they make. Cooked just the way we asked, fresh L/T, super size, great bun - a winner. Same with the fries. We like them well-cooked and that is what we got. Loved this dish. A glass of Syrah for $28. Fine. Not special but fine. Again, somewhat expensive. The cheeseburger + fries was $45. To us that is above the high end of Manhattan pricing (again, outside of midtown). That said, it was a very good meal and the pricing won't deter us from returning. We had: deviled eggs - 4* Ceasar salad - 4* Dry-aged LaFrida burger - 4* Burger was more medium-well than medium-rare, but because of the quality of the ingredients it was still juicy and delicious. That said, some of the folks on Yelp will find this unforgivable for a $30 burger. We ordered a $15 side of fries to split between three people and added a $5 sauce, expecting something at least somewhat substantial for the price. Instead, the sauce came in a tiny, standard ketchup cup, which felt pretty unreasonable for $5. And definitely skip the veggie burger. It was honestly just not good. Psa: this is the strictest reservation policy of any restaurant I've ever encountered in nyc. Make sure you read the fine print. To BOOK a reservation will cost you $20 per person non refundable. Yes you heard me right. If you book on resy for 4 people, then realize 5 minutes later that you mixed up the dates and you want to cancel, it'll cost you $80. If your friends bail on you a week in advance, it'll cost you $80. If your friends cancel a week in advance but you still decide to go anyway with your sister, the restaurant will charge you $100 for reducing the size of your table so you're being punished bc the party size isn't what you reserved. Please read the fine print bc if you try to modify or cancel at all it will cost you money no matter how early notify the restaurant and also jokes on you they don't have a phone so not sure how you'd notify them anyway. So beware, if you are not 100% confident you are going to be able to make the reservation, and that whoever you're dining with is 100% sure as well, this is going to cost you money. I have never seen any restaurant with a policy like this in my life. I had made several reservations bc my friends and I were figuring out our dates, not noticing the fine print, and it cost me money to cancel even more than a week in advance. We dined at the restaurant and everything felt rushed. Our 4 appetizers all came out at once followed immediately by our entree. Our meal and the meal next to us were both done in under 50 minutes. once we passed on dessert they handed us our bill immediately. My 3 starred review is based purely on the food and experience not the cancellation fee which more serves as a warning. The food was good especially the steak frites as it and the fries were perfectly done, that and the hot pockets were the stars but the experience and ambiance were lacking. Beautiful restaurant with attentive front of the house staff. My wife and I made reservations for bar seating since table seating for two is difficult to reserve; most tables were party of four or more. Bar seating was comfortable and the bar tender gave us excellent recommendations for wine and beer choices. We had the crispy rice tuna appetizer and a Caesar salad. Both were excellent, but the crispy rice tuna was an incredible experience. We both had the burger, which was incredibly juicy and flavorful. Of note, the food was served incredibly quickly after ordering. If I were to return, I would try one of the fish entrees and the fried chicken. Burger is their most popular item, but I would fight the urge tor order the burger, and appreciate the chef's offering of other items. A bit pricey, but rather on par for good Manhattan's restaurants. read more

This is high class standard American fare. If you like Hillstone or have been blessed to get into the Corner Store, there is no doubt you will love this place. The menu is simple, but vast and every dish is tasty but not in the typical sense. The unique flavors add a nice touch here. Do not sleep on the puréed mashed potatoes, those were out of this world. The hot pockets brought me back to my childhood except this was much more gourmet. And if you're a salad lover don't skip the kale either. I was also pleasantly surprised by how great the pasta was. Next time I'm trying that burger and I dream of the cookie skillet. The front area is a little crazy not a great waiting space and the bar is reserved for reservations but at least they honor your reservation time and have a lovely wait staff. I do love the restaurant but would be lying if I said it's got great lighting. It is way too dark. I'm aging up not down so my eyesight is getting weaker not stronger, I get dark is the vibe but I need to be able to see my food and not scar surrounding customers with constant use of flash photography. While the food was great and the waitress was fine i left with a sour taste at the end of my meal. i live in the area and ventured in after rumble boxing for a quick post workout salad. At the end I asked to tap to pay on my phone. I was asked to produce ID insinuating that it's not my credit card attached to my phone. I have never ever been asked to produce ID when I'm about to tap to pay. This felt incredibly wrong to me and her response was quite stupid saying that I can later go to the CC company and ask for a charge back. I'm pretty sure the waitress viewing my ID has nothing to do with a chargeback. Its felt like she was judging me for wearing workout clothes meanwhile the restaurant had less than 5 diners inside.
