My family came across this place when we were looking for a restaurant to host as a reception for my son's baptism. We worked with Denny, who is so wonderful and made us feel like family since day one. He worked with us in making sure that the space was ok and even gave us his opinions on what foods would be best to have at the reception. But he also made sure to let us know that it was up to what he wanted and that he would do what we wanted. He continued to work with us up until the day of the party. The staff at Hashes and Brew is so amazing! The day of the party, they were so prepared and got everything out as quickly as they could. Our family had so much fun and enjoyed the food. We couldn't tell you how many times our family complimented how good the food was and how the portion size was really big. A lot of our guests even had leftovers that they jokingly said could last a few days. Hashes and Brews is definitely somewhere that feels like family and we can definitely feel that with Denny and his team. We've eaten there a couple of times before our party and each time that we've come we've always felt so welcomed. I remember coming a second time and having one of the staff, Claudia already remember us from the last time that we have come. She always takes great care of us when we come in. Went for Breakfast Food - 5/5. Hash was rich with plenty of sausage and potatoes. Strong sear on the potatoes gave them great crust while remaining tender. The fluffy eggs made for good contrast and overall, everything meshed well. It did get heavy after a few bites, requiring an addition of sauce to keep the flavor from getting dull. Biscuit was fantastic having a rich buttery bite; my favorite part of the plate! Service - 4/5. Staff were friendly but a bit slow on service. Solid breakfast spot here in San bruno. I could see this place being super busy prior to covid because the food is good and they're pretty fast/located in a great place where people from YouTube and Walmart can just walk. I've tried a few different things off their menu and have never had anything negative to say about any of their food. They've got breakfast foods, lunch and dinner foods depending on the time you come in. The consistent thing they have throughout the day is their hashes. With covid, there is seating outside which they had already had previously but they also added a few tents in the parking lot to add for social distancing and to accommodate more parties. Server greeted us warmly and was very knowledgeable/helpful with insight and recommendations. Love that the outdoor patio is pet friendly. Bread pudding French toast for our sweet choice- not overly sweet, maple syrup brightened it up but it needed something. Maybe a bourbon sauce... Country fried steak with hb potatoes and eggs- would reorder again. Potatoes were flavorful but mushy. Gorgonzola scramble with hash browns- Gorgonzola was lost in the eggs spinach and mushrooms. More Gorgonzola would've helped but as is would not get again. Hash browns had a nice crisp on the outside but beneath that layer mashed potatoes consistency. Star was our server Azadeh. She was thoughtful and attentive throughout offering maple syrup for our leftovers and lemon and honey for my hot water. This was our second visit. I came here for Saturday brunch and sat inside. They distanced the tables, but if all the table were full I'd feel a bit uncomfortable. They sat a party one table next to us and we shifted our table an extra foot away to maintain the 6 feet. The ground also had food on it. We were stepping in it on accident and it got stuck to our shoes. The food was alright. Was disappointed by the sausage on the two biscuit scramble. Was more of a sausage patty and not cut up sausage mixed into the egg. Also got the monterey hash and the mexican hash. The hashes were good, but expected more hash browns with the other foods mixed in. This was more like the house regular potatoes mixed into the fillings. On top of that the eggs were undercooked. The egg whites were not cooked all the way through. I do wanna say that their menu was very long and extensive. With the pandemic requirements of indoor spacing, it is actually very pleasant to eat inside the restaurant now. It doesn't feel like they're packing everyone in like sardines. The outside seating is nice and has heaters, which are always necessary in San Bruno. The Cobb salad is nicely sized and good. It would be better if H&B used real roasted Turkey or even grilled chicken, instead of cold cut turkey slices. The kids chicken strips were well received by the little one at the table. The service was very attentive and always kept our glasses full. They also have a full bar. A HUGE improvement over my previous experience at Hashes and Brews. Even during pandemic-times, this is a wonderful place to grab a meal. They also have a decent beer selection and the specialty mimosas are a MUST try. Their mimosas will knock your socks off, literally. If you're fortunate, you'll get Remy as your server. He is outstanding. I'll start at the end. Moral of the story, don't get a crab cake salad at a place called Hashes and Brews. I was going to give this place 2 stars, right up until I spent 2 uncomfortable hours of shuttling back and forth to the bathroom. I should have trusted my instincts when I sensed the lettuce was past its prime. The best part: service was attentive and the young cute guy at the host desk was cheerful and very pleasant. The rest: If I didn't know these were called crab cakes, I would never have guessed they had crab in them. Texture was unpleasantly mealy with no crispness on the outside. Salad was served in a bowl so that the tomatoes and cucs which were in very large slices couldn't easily be sliced to bite size. The aforementioned greens were kinda soggy and had an off note. We had dinner here and it's nothing to write home about. For a full but sadly unsatisfactory $60 including tip, we had two entrees, one kids "meal", and a beverage each. Most disappointing entree was the Fried Chicken Dinner: 3 pcs straight from a heat lamp that died a refried death, mash with decent southern gravy, runny creamed corn fresh out the can, & an average biscuit that may or may not have been microwaved cuz the bottom was rock hard yet the top was partially fluffy?? Kid's Chicken Strips served with Ranch: 3 pcs of breast meat that our little one barely touched, came with a generous heap of fries that she devoured. Note: a side of fruit & children's drinks are NOT included in kids "meals" as with most places. Irish Hash had me with mixed emotions. Per our server Wilmer, the corned beef is housemade and popular for their corned beef sandwiches so I went for that rather than the Monterey Hash with Smoked Salmon that I had my eyes on. The corned beef was tender, accompanying taters were cooked to perfection. Here's the peculiar part, all hash entrees come with 2 eggs cooked "any style". When they say ANY style they mean "not really". Cuz when I ask for poached eggs, I was told: "We don't do that after 4pm". I laughed initially cuz I thought he was joking. Overall the food and service was great. The food was quick and delicious. The service although my table was forgotten at the end, the service was good. It's whole mix of breakfast menu such a big variety. Now i love the bread pudding French toast, and i took it to go only a couple days ago. I admit I was skeptical when I walked in and saw a kind of Denny's like diner, especially with all the high marks. Could this be one of those hidden gems? They have the standard omelettes, pricey $5 bacon as an add on, waffles, and French toast. This was what they serve for breakfast and lunch. That and burgers. I was skeptical about their Crab Benedict which she recommended since I'm picking about crab cakes, but wow did it have flavor and a really good crispy English muffin and great poached eggs. This place is a gem for this area. They had me at hashes and brews two of my favorite things in this whole entire world. The first time, I came here was just for drinks to peep out the place. The glass it came in was not what I expected it was a small yet a fat martini glass typa thing going on. Micheladas usually come with whatever it is left over from the negra modelo you ordered. Love this place! Came here at 10:30am on a Sunday and was promptly seated. Ordered the smores french toast and the Philly hash, with 2 coffees. Our server, Lisa, was super friendly. She was really busy and running around taking care of many tables, but never failed to check in on us and refill our coffees. I've never had to reject a coffee refill before! She was like a coffee genie. I knew the smores french toast might not be the smartest idea aka sugar overload, but I went for it anyway. I did appreciate my first couple bites, definitely tasted like camping. But it did get to be a bit too much. Luckily, I got to share this dish. But even still, I did not feel too good afterwards. Totally my fault though! So if you're thinking of getting the smores french toast, make sure you're sharing it with at least 2-3 other people. The Philly hash was very good. That steak yummm. I have heard about this cute little gem in San Bruno and was so happy to finally have time to check it out . Right when we walked in we were immediately greeted . It's a good portion if you're really hungry. Plenty of parking. It's a little hidden gem in a neighborhood shopping center hidden behind business buildings. This is a super LATE POST, but I wanted to give a shout out to this restaurant anyways. We came for a Sunday Morning Brunch in February, the restaurant is located in small shopping center. Pretty easy to get to though. Made a reservation because it was COVID restrictions and we were supposed to have 8 people. Arrived about 5minutes early to the reservation and our table was ready, so they sat us immediately. Once seated, our drink order was taken within 2 minutes of sitting down. I almost got a classic diner feel with an old rustic twist. The staff was attentive, even with the short staff. It took almost 20-25 minutes for everyone to get their food, but it was worth it. Fried Chicken Benedict (8/10) - Hollandaise was so good, wish the muffin was a little warmer and crunchier. Greek omelette (9/10) - Couldn't finish it! Not impressed. My family never really do brunch so when my brother placed the idea in my mom's head.. well, there was no going back. So we came to Hashes & Brews since it was one of my bookmarks for a while. San Bruno doesn't always have the best weather and on this particular weekend that we went, it was cold and windy out. The place was packed and getting a table inside probably would've taken a while so when the hostess asked if we would mind sitting outside, my family agreed to get faster service. The outside area is pretty much like how Pasta Pomodoro has it before although they got rid of the covers to block out the wind which sucked because I was miserable sitting outside. They have heating lamps outside and we were sitting next to one, but the one we were sitting next to was broken and so was the one behind us. The only working one was next to a 2 seater table that was already occupied so woop. I can't remember what my family had gotten, but I got their chicken and waffles based on the server's recommendation. I've had chicken and waffles at other places before so I expected the same quality here, too. Sadly, I was wrong. The chicken was deep fried way too long and was very dark with no seasoning. Dinner: burrata, nachos, crab cakes, sliders, hashes, sandwiches, burgers, ribs, pastas, grilled fish, pork chops, steak, etc. Breakfast is served until 4 pm. Hashes are served all day. Let's start with the positives... Service alone, it's 5 stars. Everyone from the owner, the manager, and our server (young Filipino guy with tats) were fantastic on a busy Saturday afternoon. The worst meal ever, we were a party of 4 we all order breakfast. First off my brother in-law had to get up and ask the server for coffee twice , Service was not the best. This is one of my favorite local restaurants. I'm a regular and visit nearly every week. You almost never have to wait for a table. The interior decor is pleasant and inviting, with nice color combinations and patterns. It is spacious. The seating is comfortable; there are small and large tables and half-booths. You can always place tables together if your party is large (please note, they do not take reservations, but that is rarely a problem). The staff is diverse and friendly, and they provide good service. I've even gotten to know the owner, who is nearly always there working hard to manage everything. He's dedicated to his restaurant! The menu is very well-rounded. They serve many kinds of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and everything tastes delicious. Breakfast includes pancakes, french toast, omelettes, and of course a variety of hashes. Lunch is sandwiches, salads, soups, and many other choices. Dinner? Pasta, steak and salmon entrees, along with most other desirables. There are vegetarian options and sides. You are usually not limited when ordering: you can often order anything from any of the menus, no matter what time of day it is. Weekend brunch has an additional menu of special entrees and breakfast cocktails. My wife normally orders a mango or peach mimosa with breakfast. Of course, they have a full bar that includes wine, several beers on tap, and some specialty cocktail concoctions seen in the menu. I'm not crazy about most of their specialty cocktails, so I tend to order traditional cocktails or beer when I want a drink. There are medium sized TV's spread around the bar, usually muted or on low volume, that can be seen from the tables. My coworkers and I had been waiting for this place to open. We're so blessed to work in an area with so much great food within a 10 minute drive. Add this place to that list! I had time in the morning, so I had breakfast with a coworker here during my first visit. The host is always kind and prompt. I'm always torn between a savory or sweet breakfast. I opted for the waffle and wasn't let down. It isn't my favorite, but it was good. My coworker had one of those eggs with toast and hash browns entrees and she liked it. The hash browns are good, I tried a bit of hers. We didn't try the hash, which is probably what they do best. So I'll probably have to come back and do that some time when I'm in the mood for a full on heavy breakfast. The second time that we went, we had a party of three. We got there a bit early for lunch and we're seated in the booth at the center of the restaurant. It was so nice and warm while the wind was chilly outside. We all got sandwiches and to say we liked them is an understatement. My turkey sandwich was really good- even though I was still feeling under the weather. I wanted to get soup but they only have one soup of the day and I wasn't interested in having clam chowder. One of my coworkers got the veggie Ruben and the other got a regular meat Ruben. They loved their sandwiches. It's funny because they serve them to you cut in half, but we all ate both halves and almost all of our fries. So, we obviously enjoyed their lunch more than their breakfast. But I'll have to come back and try other things on the menu. It's all promising so I can't wait! read more

Ordered the country fried steak for lunch. Damn it's huge! It's twice as big as I'm used to eating! Lol. Prices are a little more expensive compared to other breakfast places on the peninsula, but they're worth it if you're hungry. Big portions all around. The country fried steak was beautifully fried. It was actually crispy the gravy tasted home made and had subtle hints of herbs. Not a huge fan of the biscuits and gravy. I would have preferred to have some toast instead. Also I thought it was a little weird that the hash browns were only fried on one side. I only ate the crispy portion and left the rest. I would come back when I'm super hungry. read more

Three times coming here and loved it already. Staff are very pleasant. Service is good and price is reasonable. The place is not a typical diner coz the setting is a little different. Their breakfast menu is all day available thats why I love it too. They also have a full bar and tv to watch sports, thus my hubby is always happy to come here. Tasted their, chicken and waffles, Club sandwich, mini sliders, cheese burger, and quesadilla. So far, everything was good! Parking is not at all difficult since there's a huge lot to park on. Comfy seating and pretty solid breakfast choices here. A good local joint for food for the whole family though nothing completely stand-out. This relatively new restaurant in Bayhill Shopping Center takes the place of the closed Pasta Pomodoro. Parking isn't too bad because of center's parking. I came at 11am for a table for 2 on a Saturday and was still seated within minutes. Comfy seating is family friendly here, and it also has outdoor seating with heaters for both warm and chilly days. The menu has a great array of choices, from pancakes to waffles to hashes (hence the name) to eggs benedicts (my favorite!). There are even lunch sandwich options in addition to breakfast. I ordered the Steak Benedict, which was pretty solid. The steak pieces were fresh and yummy, mixed along a saute of diced bell pepper and other veggies. The eggs were perfectly runny and the toasted english muffin did awesome soaking up all those good flavors. I definitely added some salt and pepper to my eggs and steak but really enjoyed it. For about $14, it was a pretty significant portion. Their signature H&H potatoes are pretty good, though a little to densely potato in my opinion. I love how golden and crispy they are on the outside, as well as the yummy sauteed onions they grill with the potatoes! However, I think the potato chunks were a little too large for me; I like my potatoes thinner and crispier, so would probably substitute for hash browns next time. We also got the Smores French Toast because I couldn't resist trying it. I loved all the sweetness from the chocolate and ooey mini marshmallows between each layer. My only complaint was that I wished it was more crispy rather than soft. It might have been that it sat out for a while on our table because we ate it last though. Overall, service was pretty solid. Our waiter did a good job checking for us constantly and employees made sure to keep all the coffee and drinks refilled. With all the brunch competition around in places such as Milbrae, I would say this place is solid if you want to sit comfortably with short wait. They make the best omelette and chicken and waffle. My fiancé loves the chicken fried steak so much that he orders it almost every time. Their menu is always updated with creative specials. I came here the other day with friends for brunch. The wait time is very odd - either there's a huge line, or there's no line at all. Looks like the restaurant wasn't staggered. We waited about 10 minutes. Even though the space is small, the servers are pretty quick and got us seated pretty fast. There looks like patio seating, but facing a large street and on a cold day...wasn't happening. I got the chicken fried steak, and it's easily enough to feed two people.
