One of the only Chinese take out places around my house. In terms of Chinese take out food it's pretty good. You have your standard chicken with broccoli or dumplings and hot and sour soup. I usually come here once a month to do take out for my family. Service is pretty good and they prepare your food pretty fast. My favorite so far is the general tsao chicken and. Hot abs sour soup. They also have lunch special 7 days a week which is nice. Overall a nice place to get take out if you're in the mood. read more

I'm not sure why this place only has 3 stars. Not only is this place extremely quick and very affordable, it also tastes great! I highly recommend the lunch specials (I believe this is during weekdays from 10:30-3:30), you really cannot go wrong. Less than $9 for chicken with broccoli and soup/soda?? This has to be one of the better lunch deals in this area. I have been coming here for the past 5+ years and it really has never disappointed me. They recently renovated the interior and it looks really nice now which is a plus if you decide to dine in. The staff is super friendly, and I believe during dinner time, if you order over a certain amount, they include a free item, like dumplings. All in all, this is a great chinese takeout place; the service and quality are unmatched to other chinese takeout places around the Hauppauge area. Very clean interior, fast and friendly service. I ordered Szechuan tofu and usually I get TONS of vegetables which I love but they only have me Szechuan tofu with 4 pieces of broccoli. I couldn't finish it so I have a whole other meal or two since tofu is so filling. I do prefer lots of vegetables but that's my fault but I love how worth my money it is if I'm really craving a ton of tofu for a good price. This is not an allergy-friendly establishment, and their negligence almost killed me. I have a lethal allergy to sesame seeds. When my family called to place the order, we were told emphatically no sesame products were used in the kitchen. When we picked it up the order, we confirmed again with the cashier that there was zero sesame seed products in the food. He again emphatically said no sesame was used whatsoever. Well, immediately after eating one pork rib I began to experience anaphylaxis and was rushed to the hospital. Hau Po lied to my face, twice, about the risk of contamination. To add insult to injury, when I contacted them to complain and demand my medical bills to be taken care of--they denied all responsibility. They claimed that it must have been the sauce they used on the rib and admitted to not knowing the ingredients, and it wasn't their fault because they didn't make the sauce. They even said they would email the manufacturer to get the ingredients, as if that mattered. If they have to email another company to get their ingredient lists together, how could they possibly tell me in the first place there was no sesame seeds? Do not eat here--especially if you have food allergies. read more

I got takeout here while hanging out at a nearby friends house because we wanted Chinese food quick. I ordered mapo tofu and by the time we got there 10 minutes later our food was already done! The food itself was very average Americanized Chinese food, it wasn't bad though. I enjoyed my mapo tofu, it was perfect for my Chinese food craving. I was getting tired of the places around Saint James, they lacked flavor and the taste of good take out food when I used to have around Queens. I took a chance on Hau PO and I was not disappointed!!! The first time I went there I ordered Carb Rangoon, Sweet and Sour Chicken and General Tso Chicken. They even gave us a free fried rice with our order. The food tasted fresh and everything was crispy!! We went back a second time and I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken again and Chicken and Broccoli. Everything tasted fresh and delicious!!! Fried rice was a strange light yellow color and had barely any ingredients in it but rice, egg roll had no pork in it and customer service was lacking. The only thing that was actually good was the crab rangoons. I ordered the steamed vegetable dumplings and s vegetable spring roll. Both were terribly bland with the dreaded mushy/tasteless/nondescript filling that marks a poor choice of restaurant on my part. Ordered the beef and broccoli lunch combo with fried rice. This was not fried rice! Light yellow rice with no flavor and nothing added to it but dried unflavored pork. Two pieces of taste less beef served with broccoli. Sauce was non existent. What a shame...this place used to be good years ago. Will never go back. Don't waste your money and appetite.
