I just got home from the Haunted Lagoon and couldn't wait to write my review. It was a lot better than I expected. A lot of friends didn't want to go because of the price and things they heard from other people but I'm glad I didn't let their negative comments keep me from experiencing the haunted lagoon for myself. Truthfully though, I would not have gone if they didn't have their offer on Hot Deals Hawaii. We waited an hour and a half but I think it was worth the wait. I liked that they had a video showing around the middle of the line. It was pretty humorous and kept our spirits up. I also loved that they had 2 haunted houses that we had to go through before reaching the lagoon ride. The first haunted house was pretty freaky, thanks to the 3D glasses they had us put in. The glasses blurred our vision a little, adding to the horror effect. The 2nd haunted house was right before the lagoon and wasn't as scary as the 1st but definitely got us in the mood to be scared. The lagoon itself was awesome. The special effects were great and the ghouls and ghosts were really good. All I can say is..be ready to get wet. Don't bother sitting in the middle just because you don't want to get wet because you will no matter what. You might as well sit in the front and on the sides so you can get the most out of the ride. I'm not a fan of the ride to and back from PCC but haha..that's kind of beyond their control :P I almost forgot to to add: I think part of the reason why it seemed scarier to me than some other haunted houses and what not..is because the ghosts and ghouls would actually touch you..in the maze and on the lagoon ride. This was the first year going to this event, and I must say, WoW! I didn't know there was such thing on Oahu! It's kinda like a Disney ride right here in paradise. I don't know about the other years, but this year, there was a dance performance by, I believe 24/7 dance, and then after that you go through a 3D maze. I got freaked out by the first character! It was a small boy and he was just...there! Then you walk over to get on a boat to ride through the lagoon. So many spooks, scares, and thrills. I thought it was well done! My driver of the boat sucked. We kept getting stuck or running into trees. But other than that it was fun. TIP: WEAR BLACK. You will get dirty since the water is dirty. And yes, you WILL get wet. First of all: I'm a scaredy cat. Second of all: I don't like things to jump out at me. Third of all: I can't believe I went. So this was my VERY FIRST time going to Haunted Lagoon. Because I'm a 'fraidy cat I don't really voluntarily go to these things. I had an opportunity to go with a large group so I figured I could suck it up and experience it...at least once. Don't want to give anything away...so here's my review the best I can. According to my tour person, it has been toned down from last year, slightly, to make it more family friendly. For people waiting in line, there's a little video that tells the story of the Lady of Laie and gives you "the rules". If you fast pass it, you kinda miss the pre-video and you may see a little of it. Well, as for rules: No cursing (so watch those potty mouths!) I had to apologize because the word "shit" came out of my mouth....only once though. No Cameras or Videos - in my experience at theme parks, flashes will mess up the DARKNESS parts of the show and may affect your viewing pleasure. I forget the other rules but there were a couple more...Oh, No Touching the people/monsters/props, etc. So you get in a canoe and are whisked away through the darkness. I have no idea how these guys navigate in the dark but it was super cool. Yes, things jumped out at us and I screamed. but mostly I laughed because I was having fun. The noises are spooky and the lady creeped me out. There were a few surprises and things that you don't expect. Totally different than my initial expectation and I have to say it was very enjoyable. Of course I made my sister sit on the outside part so the zombies in the water would have to go through her to get to me....but alas, she did not protect me. Those monsters in the water jump up on the side of the boat to freakout people from any distance. I feel bad for the poor stranger sitting to my right because there were a few times there when I realized I had shoved against him trying to avoid a dripping dead guy who was up on the side of the boat staring into my eyes and breathing on me....and I didn't even say sorry. The tickets are by no means cheap but this was the scariest and most well-done haunted event I've ever seen. They have special effects that literally blew my mind and scared me senseless. Tips for a good experience: ***Try to find a groupon deal if you can ***Get there 45 minutes before it opens and get in line. We did that and while we had to wait in line for 45 minutes, when it opened we got right in. Otherwise you wait for hours. I had a opportunity to check out PCC's Haunted Lagoon for the 4th time(been every year since opening), and although I told myself I wouldn't wait in line again, since I got a bunch of free tickets we decided to check it out. They are still charging a lot for parking. So trust me park in the neighborhood and walk one block for free. Had tons of parking on the Friday night. (no problems parking here 55-407 Naniloa Loop) So not to spoil anything but this years Haunted Lagoon ride has added some new editions. Sure the line is twice as long(at least on sneak preview day) but you'll also enjoy a new storyline plot about the mystery of the Laie lady (playing on screens while you wait in line) as well as a brand new haunted house. The Haunted house isn't anything amazing but it might be as 1/2 as good as what you would find at Nightmares Live or other paid haunted house. This new haunted house uses a lot of lighting and colors and you'll need to put on some 3D type glasses. Expect to see PCC trying to sell you as much things as possible while they keep you trapped in line. So if your looking to save money be sure to bring your own candy, food, water,drinks, ponchos or jacket and they have tons of glow sticks and flashy lights(that the kids will really be dying to have parents). If your not digging the super long lines(we waited 2 hrs on opening day) I would suggest purchasing the Fast Pass(they were on sale at Play Hawaii for 25$). From what I could tell there was almost no wait whatsoever but if they continue selling the Fast Passes for only 5$ more then reg then expect both fast pass & reg lines to take even longer. The ride itself is pretty similar to previous years, yes you will get wet(so advised to bring a waterproof bag or at least jacket to protect your valuables) and the overall route is pretty much the same. I can't say they have any major notable changes other then a little bit more sound affects(fireworks!!). Overall like I've said in previous years, if this is your first time then go and give it a try. If you've been before or more importantly don't like waiting in super long lines then I would say skip it. Still the Haunted Lagoon is probably the best single Haunted activity during the season but the long drive, long lines, major up selling by PCC all bring down the overall rating. read more

Awesomeness... It seems like they go different every year... They added 2 haunted houses this year and I must say they both were awesome... The lagoon itself, had a great time... Screamed, laughed, enjoyed... I'm a kamaaina pass holder, my family as well so i wanted to experience both lines so first I did the general pass since it comes free... The wait was about 2 hours but I recommend come early like 4:00 and have dinner at the restaurant so you'll be filled and ready to go... The general line had it's perks, you got to hear the story, get spooked in line and laugh at those who gets scared of the walking characters... Made some friends while waiting and shared stories after it was all done... On the other hand, I did the fast pass the next day with some friends and the experience wasn't the same... We missed the story, the whole interaction and the pace was set so fast (cause we went on a Saturday)... I mean we moved through the line so fast that we got in and out within an hour... We got out so fast, we didn't even know what to do for the rest of the night... Dnt get me wrong that was awesome but I'm glad I got to experience the whole effect with both lines... I recommend doing both lines if you have the luxury... If not , then the fast pass for those wanting to get in and out and the general line for those wanting all that PCC can offer you... Haunted Lagoon - Performing Arts Near Me - Laie, Hawaii

Haunted Lagoon is pretty awesome and is surprisingly impressive for an island production. Bring in an empty Pepsi can/bottle on a Wednesday to get $5 off admission. Here's the deets from the PCC website: "After booking your passes online bring in a Pepsi product on Wednesdays and receive $5 off admission. $3 off coupons are also available at participating 7-Eleven, Domino's Pizza, and 76 Gas Station locations." It's a bit pricey, so every lil discount helps! Also, we got there around 8pm and there was already a 2-hour wait. So i recommend buying the fast pass for an extra $10 more. There was absolutely no wait with the fast pass. Don't forget that parking costs $8. Eek! You don't need a poncho. You will get lightly sprinkled with some water, but really, it's not enough to wreck your phone or anything like that. Also, the ppl in character are allowed to touch you, unlike most haunted houses/parks i've been to. This ups the scary factor! Warning for contact lens wearers: There's one part where wind will blow crap in your eyes. May want to sit on the left side of the raft or wear your glasses. read more

This was my first year going to the Haunted Lagoon. It's actually really fun and I highly recommend it. I would say, buy the fast pass because it will save you a lot of time. There's quite a bit of walking involved too. The canoe ride is in the middle of the park but they set up other things in front to try and hype you up for the ride. If you're one of those people who gets scared really fast, I don't recommend sitting on the sides of the canoe. Sitting in the middle is also risky because things fly by over your head in certain parts of the ride. You will get wet no matter where you sit so don't wear nice clothes to this. read more

This year was the first year I went and I want to go back already. It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. This haunted canoe ride around the "Haunted Lagoon" was about a half an hour, maybe more (?) There's a storyline here, about the lady from La'ie and how she's creepy, has long hair, wears white, and her face is all messed up... Oh and she is supposedly looking for her son. And any others to spend the rest of eternity with her. I jumped quite a bit during the ride, but so did everyone else on the canoe. There was a lot of laughter and screaming too. This ride is NOT recommended for old people and those with cardiac problems who could potentially die from a myocardial infarction. There are a ton of surprises in this ride and you will get wet (sprinkled) with stinky Haunted Lagoon water. (There's a kiddie version of this ride too. I heard that it's similar to the regular Haunted Lagoon ride, just way less scary.) A lot of thought went into this whole production and they really did a tremendous job. The props were awesome and the actors were great, especially the children. I'll probably have nightmares for a month, but I feel like it's almost worth it. The wait-time for this ride is horribly long, like a whole movie's length and then some. But there was food and some cool stuff to do in line (i.e. get an airbrush tattoo, ride and take pictures in a coffin, etc.). Oh and for those of you who like useless crap, they were selling those annoying-yet-cool-light-up-blinky-waste-of-money-toys and some Haunted Lagoon memorabilia. I will most definitely go next year. The Lady of Laie better step up her game and scare people faster because waiting in line for four hours to see her undead ass was a pain in my live one. One year ago, I thought Haunted Lagoon was amazing. The thrills were terrifying last year and the wait was an hour for me (Apparently, we were lucky at the time as that wasn't the case for most people.) So this year, when my friends and I saw a $12 deal online, we swooped in to purchase our tickets and set a date. Everyone met up at 6:00 pm but the parking lot was packed. By the time we got to the entrance and got our tickets, we were in line by 6:30 pm. If you're waiting after the ticket booth and the line lady tells you that the wait will be an hour at that point, go up to her face and scream "YOU LIE, AUNTY!" because she is. I'm so glad we had snacks in my purse to munch on because there was nothing to do but wait and eat. As we waited, we passed three screens that were set up, each sharing the story of the Laie woman and telling you the rules of the ride. The first time it was kind of entertaining, but by the third passing of the screen, we were already memorizing the actor's lines and completely over it. I think it would've been cool if they had set up a horror movie to watch while people waited and I wished they had more creatures roaming around scaring people in line. The thrills were okay. They added more things to this attraction, but the quality of the production decreased. There is a new mini haunted house that you go through, but it's more of an interesting side note than a terrifying experience. The canoe ride itself is a hit or miss. I sat on the left side of the canoe's edge and definitely got the most encounters. My friends who sat in the middle couldn't see anything. Some of the creatures broke character which was funny, but lame at the same time. One "creature" screamed at me then apologized for getting my pants wet. Homie, I'm paying you to tell me that you're gonna kill me in my sleep, not ask me about the weather. Overall, a disappointing experience. Not worth the two hour trip to and from Laie and definitely not worth the four hours worth of aching feet. The Haunted Lagoon was soooo worth the wait! It moves by a lot faster than the estimated time signs since each canoe can fit up to 30 or so people. Do sit in the front and on the outer edge for the most action! I was at the spot, I completely started to regret it. Not to worry though, regardless of where you sit on the canoe, there is plenty of fun ;) Apologizes to the second row because my row kept falling back onto them. As Kim M. already mentioned, the production was really good. I guess after my mind finally eased up from the adrenaline rush, I realized the entire ride made sense in terms of the story of the La'ie lady. I really wanna come back again! It was a lot of fun, highly recommended! Sidebar: PCC Haunted Lagoon volunteer coordinator/whatevers: There's one girl that works the line to the canoe and she was a real b!tch. Not even joking. She was extremely rude and forceful when we did something barely out of line due to excitement. Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun, fun, fun! I had no expectations of this ride and came with a completely clean state of mind. Had the Fast Pass and it was definitely worth it. The line for the regular admission was about a two miles long!!! I heard that could take up anywhere from 2-4 hours of waiting in line. The line for the fast pass? Maybe 20 meters! And the wait time? 10-15 minutes! I read that the 2011 lagoon ride was extended to 45 minutes. Per my watch, it was about 50 minutes!!!!!! Way, way, way awesome. This was a super fun ride with tricks and surprises along the way. Any seat on the boat is actually super fun. But if you want to get wet and get scared to the max, I suggest sitting on either the right or the left side of the boat. Upon getting on the boat, my friends hoped in the boat first and left the end seat for me. Umm.... yes, so I got wet and I got scared a couple of times. But it was so worth it! At the end of the ride, there were food vendors. I had to bust out my wallet and buy some bbq chicken on a stick b/c my tummy was famished from the excitement of the ride. $1.50 for a bbq chicken stick but it was so yummy!! Not sure if it was due to my hunger or not that made the bbq chicken on a stick taste so good, but nom, nom, nom, nom, nom. There were deals for the Fast Pass and the regular admission price in September on Groupon.com, Livingsocial.com and Hotdealshawaii.com before the ride begins on the first of October. #74/365 I came here last year and might I say that it was great. What sets it apart from your usual "haunted houses" is that you get to ride in the canoe and people are coming out and jumping at you out of the water and they even pull up on the side so that you're close up with the different scenes. Its very exciting because you dont know what to expect. People really "get to know" each other here because random people will try to grab you for "protection" or slide/bump into you...its quite funny too...I was one of those "scardy cats" but at least I had family surrounding me to grab onto haha :-P. Overall, makes for some good entertainment and bonding. While waiting in line or getting off the ride and leaving the center there are even people and kids that are in costume and pop out from the bushes so beware! muahaha!! read more

This was my first time going to the haunted lagoon. I purchased tickets online, but didn't want to wait in the long line so ended up upgrading to the fast pass. The walk thru part was okay. I admit I got scared at the beginning, but after you keep walking you just start expecting to get scared. The glasses they gave us sucked! I really couldn't even see anything. The canoe ride would have been better if I could see over the people in front and if there wasn't teens on there ruining everything. You only get scared for the most part if you're sitting in the very front or on the edges. If you're in the middle expect to be scared about 5% of the time. They do forget to inform you that YOU WILL GET WET! Bring a towel or at least they should provide us with complimentary towels at the end. A bunch of the ohana decided to get together and venture down to PCC for this years Haunted Lagoon ride. SOOOO glad that we did!! We got there around 6pm and really didn't have to wait too long before the line started moving us closer to the first 3D Haunted Hallway. It's spooky enough for adults and not too spooky for little kids. This definitely gets you excited for the actual ride. There are different characters walking around to entertain and scare you while you are waiting in line. There is another Haunted House section before you board the canoe, but its smaller and not as scary. It does get you in the mood for what is next. The ride itself is UNREAL!! Super scary characters and spooky stuff all over. It was so hard to catch everything cause you are trying to look left and right and in the water and up above and behind. We sat in the very back and I would say sit there or way up in front or on the sides to get the best views and the best action!! The only snafu was that a few minutes in to our ride our canoe started to sink. Our canoe guides pulled over to the side and ordered us all off the canoe. We had to wait for another canoe so that we could finish the ride...it took a good 5-10 minutes. But, we had a backstage pass watching other canoe loads of people getting scared and a bunch of cast members came over to talk story with everyone. At the end of our ride we all got free pictures as an apology for the sinking canoe. I thought that was awesome customer service!! We were there a total of 2 1/2 hours. Okay, the Haunted Lagoon... This was my second year attending the Haunted Lagoon after visiting last year. 2011 ride was amazing! We waited 3+ hours in line and was one of the last boat to go, but still the actors put on an amazing show. 2012: First let me say do NOT waste your money on full price tickets or the fast pass. We arrived at PCC around 5PM to get a good spot in the line before they opened at 6:30. Upon arrival we saw the line was very short (about 60 ppl) and we knew we were good to go. We wait until 6:30 to be let into the park and then after a few minutes we went straight into the 3D haunted house. OK the haunted house was cool but the actors did NOT even try to scare you. So really it wasn't scary just cool designs on the wall. The actors must of still been sleeping... After that, we got our pictures taken and proceeded on to the second haunted house, which had a total of 3 actors. Lame, not scary at all. Then we got on the boat and off we went... We were off the boat ride around 8PM so the ride wasn't long. Plus there wasn't as many scary parts as last year. Way too many down parts on the ride. My husband didn't even jump once :( Also, the story line was non-existent! What is up with that PCC? I really liked their story line last year with the movie and everything but we saw nothing this year. Over all, I would say save your money. PCC invested a lot of their profit from last year into technological advances this year and failed to use more actors for that good human scare. The finale was cool but NOT scary. As my rating states this was "A-OK" with us! I would love to have given this a higher rating, but as stated in all reviews, the line was reeee-damn-diculous!!! We waited 4 hours just to get to the canoe area! I asked one of the workers what time did people start lining up, and she said around 3:30!! Craziness....the attraction didn't open until dusk which was a little after 6pm We arrived at a little before 6pm and it was already 5 rows deep. We had vouchers which we had to trade for actual tickets at the counter, and at least there was no line there. When we went back out to stand in the actual line we couldn't even find the beginning (we asked one of the ushers). At least this year the line was outside in the parking area so there was a very slight breeze to cool things off. Last year, the line was inside the park area and the breeze was blocked by the bldgs. Hella hot! Since it was opening night they had a local hawaiian radio station there with prizes and games, but even the line for the spin the wheel game was long. I guess they were there to break the monotony but, it was super loud with the deejay only talking, they shoulda been playing hawaiian music too. That woulda been nice. While waiting in line, we noticed a lot of people running to McDonald's across the street and coming back with food. I know the rules say "no place holding" in line, but really there were so much of it going on....who really cares? At least the people in line were pretty courteous. There was no pushing, or fighting or hostility that I've seen in other looooooong lines. We FINALLY made it through the gate and guess what??? more waiting...we waited another hour before we got to the canoe ride. Once you are in the gate, you have some haunted caves to go through...that was fun. They give you these glasses to wear to enhance the experience. I had a hard time walking while wearing um so I had to take it off, but leave it on, it makes it so much better. Once on the canoe, the real fun began....yeah there were some jumpy moments, but we went there to get scared and that was fun. We also had good people on our boat, so there was a LOT of laughs when someone got scared. I think we had a good boatful of people so we really enjoyed our ride!!! And yes, we DID get wet...I was on the end of the row and my whole right butt cheek was soaked. Even my son who was in the middle got wet from spray and mist. Oh yea, be prepared to pay $5 for parking. the parking lot is pretty big, but while we were waiting, it sure did fill up fast. They also had vendors that sold snacks, drinks and light up toys while you waited in line. Summary: I guess it's worth the drive (about an hour from most areas) but NOT worth the long-ass line!! I would go next year, but it'll be FAST PASS for the win!! (price for fast-pass this year was about $35/person. This was my first Haunted Lagoon experience and I enjoyed every minute! Great ride for light hearted peeps like me. I scare easily and I don't like gore and horror. If you're a tough guy, you might be surprised, but not terrified. My boyfriend enjoyed watching me scream (and nearly shishi my pants...aiya!) as the actors got a kick out of targeting me! I had the best seat; edge of the front row. Haha! Here are my tips: 1.) GO ON A WEEKDAY Avoid a long wait. I went on Tuesday (10/23) with my family. Easily found parking and short lines. Got there at 6:30 p.m. 2.) BUY YOUR TICKETS ONLINE They offer discounts online (HauntedLagoon.com). Pick 'em up at 'will call' and you're set! 3.) GO AS A GROUP It's fun in numbers! I went with my bf, my cousins, and their kids; 15 total. Plus, PCC accomodates groups and allows everyone to ride together. Carpool to save on gas and parking fees. 4.) BRING A PONCHO People complained about getting wet...it's called Haunted Lagoon. We are in a canoe on water, duh! You can purchase one there too. Leave your stuff in the car if you don't want it to get wet. 5.) SHOW ME THE MONEY Bring cash! It's $5 for parking and PCC sells snacks and drinks while you wait. They also offer glow sticks and cool toys with lights that the kids (or you) might want. Helps keep them entertained while waiting in line. Save some money for a souvenir photo ($12). They have a photo op before the ride and on the canoe. I bought both pics...funny stuff! 6.) SEATING IS KEY Sitting in the front row or on the edges of the canoe are prime spots for getting spooked and soaked wet. The last row is a good seat, too. The canoe travels backwards, putting you at the front of the excitement half way through the ride. If you want a less scary experience, sit in the middle; suggested for young kids. The actors get close and in your face. 7.) HAVE AN OPEN MIND Most of the actors are children and volunteers. The production takes a lot of work so scream, laugh, and cry if you gotta! You'll have a better time if you're not so critical. I hear it's not as scary as years before, but I think PCC adjusted the ride to be more "family friendly" which may have been suggested by guests. The lighting, sound, and effects are great though. Unique costumes and creatures. The story focused on the young mind and nightmares of the Laie Lady and not so much on her. You also get to watch a video before you enter and there's a haunted house you walk through while wearing 3-D glasses and everything is glow in the dark. This is all before the ride. I was worried when we pulled up and the line stretched for as far as the eye could see, but thanks to the fast passes provided by Emi, Big Mahalo!, the wait was bearable. 1st time at the Haunted Lagoon, so no expectations. It was nice to do something different, coming from the mainland, haunted hayrides can get old. This was a welcome change. I would suggest trying to get in the front if at all possible and come prepared to possibly wait a bit. Meaning eat beforehand and go with good company to help pass the time. They do have food and drinks, though if you need. I would give it 5, but I wanted a little more scary. But probably scary enough for the little ones. If you go, enjoy! read more

The Haunted Lagoon was well worth paying for the ride and fast pass. The mood, the atmosphere and the spooks were awesome. If you want to get spooked for the fun of it, sit on the edges. The surprise of getting spooked is half the fun. They do a good job of getting you to place your attention elsewhere and spook you out from the other direction. If youre driving in to Laie, make the most of your time there. For Kamaaina residents, there is a wonderful production of Ha the Breath of Life. Its like a Polynesian perspective of the Circle of Life. Currently they have a special of $25.00 for the show and twilight dinner. Add on a Haunted Lagoon ticket with fast pass $35.00 and your time there will be very well spent. A group of ours met at 5pm got our tickets, We were seated for dinner by 530pm (buffet). We ate and still had some time to wander the the area and check out the gift shops before the 730pm show. The show is about an hour and a half which finished at just about 9pm and we fast passed everyone straight on to a canoe for our Haunted Lagoon ride. It's a little late for this review but here goes: A for effort but the Haunted Lagoon wasn't scary at all. The Line. I didn't mind standing in line because they have a lot of food or snacks you can buy at a reasonable price. They also show a teaser for the ride with rules about what not to do. This kind of ruins the experience because it's created in a humorous manner. Very goofy. I loved that they made the line entertaining though. There are little mini haunted houses to walk through and people come out and scare you. They also had a photo opp with costumed super heroes that you can buy when you exit. And they had this weird walk through thing that makes you dizzy... i could barely walk through it because it made me so dizzy! The Ride. It's definitely cool riding though the lagoon. The story line is interesting to watch and very creative. The clowns and creatures that come at you in the lagoon aren't scary because yo can see them coming. The ride isn't very dark and there are times I could see into their masks and see their faces... which made me uncomfortable like seeing through someone's clothes. At the end of the ride there was this really cool psychedelic part with bubbles and lights and contortionists or something. I loved that part. All in all, if you can get a good deal then it might be worth going. I wouldn't pay the full price because you also have to drive down there and pay for parking. My first tip: If you can, GO ON A MONDAY! When I went this past Monday, there was virtually no line and we didn't have to wait long, under an hour I think. This was actually my first haunted house/halloween event in Oahu, and it was pretty good. Honestly, I'm not one who fancies being scared, so I kept finding the scare points so that I wouldn't be targeted (trying not to give too much away). I'm sure that if I was completely oblivious, I would be scared out of my mind, but I was observant. I wanted to know more about the story of the La'ie lady, and her son/daughter which was never really established. I went with my girlfriend and two other friends on a double date, and we ended up sitting in the back row. I'll tell you right now, if you want to be scared, that's where you want to sit. That's all :) I enjoyed my night as my girlfriend and her friend screamed their heads off every time something happened, so as they were screaming, I was laughing hysterically. Overall, the scare tactics at the Haunted Lagoon are definitely there, but it's good for kids too, as there was a family with a small child sitting in front of us. If you're looking for a good scare, go to the Haunted Lagoon. Unless you live out there, it's a bit of a drive (over and hour) but worth it! read more

This was my first experience with the Haunted Lagoon, and I definitely enjoyed it. I wouldn't say it was scary, and I wasn't necessarily expecting it to be as keiki are allowed as well. There was a young girl just about 4 on our canoe and she was a bit startled at times, but certainly not terrified. The lagoon ride is interesting and set up pretty well. I think there is some potential to make this a GREAT experience; perhaps some sort of story or tale that can go along with the experience, to really get invested in the ride. But the lights, fog, costumes, all of it was good. The night we went was nearly a full moon and this took away from it a bit as we could see more than we would have been able to on another night. If possible, I'd like to have gone on a dark evening. Maybe next year! At the beginning there is a 3D portion you go through, which was pretty neat, but the characters that are a part of this didn't really stay 'in character' so to speak. My husband and I were at the back of the group and by the time we came through, the characters had no interest in trying to scare us and were even having personal conversations! That took away from the experience at the start. We also purchased the fast pass tickets and while a bit more costly, I would say worth it. We didn't really have to wait at all. As it's a long drive for us to get out there, that was appreciated, as we didn't want to stay out too too late. Bottom line - could be improved, but I had fun and would go again! read more

After a full day at the PCC (village tours, dinner, show) we had Fast Passes for the Haunted Lagoon. We were extremely tired, but this adventure woke us up! You begin by putting on 3D glasses and walking though a haunted maze...various spooky people and things will pop out of walls or walk right up to you. This 3D effect was actually pretty cool. After the maze you deposit your glasses and head out for the lagoon ride. Be prepared to get wet, not a lot, but my hubby was wearing a very expensive Panama hat and fortunately we had a bag that we were able to put it into. The various canal entrances are covered with black plastic that scrapes across your head. Biggest scare is that you are frequently SURPRISED! I am not into gory or slasher themes and this one was perfect...goulish figures, some reminiscent of Star Wars, come from land and water to give a little fear factor. If you want to be less scared sit in the middle of the canoe! read more

This is the 4th year that I've attended and I would say that this year was the best do far. I can say this since I went on the second day it opened and there lines were not as long as in previous years. Since I don't want to spoil it for others, lets just say its better and PCC has solved a way to make it bigger and better each year. If you are worried about the line, there is an added haunted house halfway in the line so the wait doesn't seem that long. It's one of those things you have to do around Halloween time in Hawaii, cuz there isnt really much else to do... Obviously you cant compare it to Knotts Berry Farm or anything close to a Mainland Haunted House. Husband and I went 2years ago and the line was wrapped but it really didnt seem that long. The Picture part with the characters was kinda tacky but we ended up buying it bc we were still dating at that time so we wanted to be that annoying couple that would spend $15 on a crappy pic, bc its "memories". I got stuck on the left side of the boat so i was close to the water and the whole time i kept thinking "you better not effing get me wet". Yeah the characters come on the canoe,they bob their heads out of the water(which cannot be sanitary cus i've seen that merk ass water in the daytime) and the Lady Of Laie frickin started Pop,Lock,and dropping it right next to me. I think the only part i freaked out on was when she started crawling towards the boat on the water. We thought we would go again this year but the one and only day we made it to Laie was on a Sunday and we forgot they were closed. read more

This was the first year my family visited the haunted Lagoon. We pre-purchased FastPass tickets for opening night (not intentionally, schedules just worked out that way) and I totally expected a crazy madhouse of people. Madhouse, yes. Excessive wait times, not so much. (took us about an hour to get through the line once we figured out where the fastpass line started. If you're a regular to theme parks, you know an hour que time is no big) The fastpass is definitely the way to go!! We bypassed soooo many people in the regular line. I thought the whole thing was good. The decorations, photo ops and mini haunted house leading up to the canoe loading area was a nice touch and helps the kiddies stay occupied while waiting in line. The ride itself was pretty cool. I don't generally like masked creatures jumping out at me from dark corners and it figures I was on the end of a row so I just kept my eyes peeled for movement to keep the fright to a minimum. LOL My girls (14 and 10) really enjoyed it. They were confused at a couple scenes that seemed to stray from the original theme. But overall it's cool that they get so many people out in costume to put on this show. My first time and it is great!!!!! it was the most fun i have ever had in a long time.... i wish they would of announced before i got there that i am going to be soaking WET! i would of dressed appropriately.... and maybe not bring a purse i do not want to get ruined by water. Even though the drive from Hawaii Kai to PCC is long... especially after work... it was sooo worth it!! My friends and I went on a Tuesday night and the crowd wasn't as bad as I read or heard from other people. We took our Pepsi bottles for the $5 discount and with the kama'aina rate... it came out to $15 per person... not too bad. We waited in line for about 20 mins.. which was shocking and great! Everyone there was excited about the ride, which made it even more enjoyable. I won't give anything away... but the ride itself is awesome. There's lots of surprises, great props, and scary characters. Overall, it was a great ride and a awesome experience! PS: parking fee is $5 (special Haunted Lagoon fee) read more

Had a great time at the Haunted Lagoon. We bought the Fast Pass arrived at 6:PM, walked around a bit, and made it on the first canoe at 7:PM. Well worth the cost as I've heard 'horror' stories about the extended wait for the regular line. As for the ride itself, it was great! I've been to PCC during the day and the conversion to the evening Haunted Lagoon was very well done. They spooks did a great job with misdirection and everyone on the canoe, myself included, jumped at least a couple of times. The Lady of Laie added a local flavor to the haunting and the creatures that emerged from every nook provided a good scare. It was a little rainy but it added to the ambience during the 30 minute canoe ride. Keep your electronics in your pocket as there is some splashing. No cameras or videos allowed. Overall, great Halloween fun!! read more

We've been meaning to go to the haunted lagoon since we moved here four years ago, so I snagged a half-off Hot Deal when I saw it. Oct. flew by and I realized that we hadn't used it, which led us to go on Halloween eve. We got there at 7 and holy line! It was probably 200 people deep - and that's just what we could see. I promptly spent the extra $15 per ticket to upgrade us to the fast pass. Very smart move. Within 5 minutes, we were in. They start you out in this cheesy 3D "haunted house" maze that involves people (who you can plainly see) jumping out at you and screaming in your face. After that, our expectations for the lagoon were super low. Boy were we wrong. The lagoon part actually blew us out of the water. Maybe they plan it that way so you are impressed once you get to the lagoon. It was equal parts scare factor (think dropping bodies and lagoon people) and super cool scenes set up along the route. Some of the costumes looked like they came off a movie set. Incredible! Now i understand why it costs so much. Note that they pack nearly 30 people on a boat and all of the action happens in the front and back row and on the sides, so try not to get stuck in the middle. Each boat has a gondolier of sorts and ours actually fell in at one point. We couldn't figure out at first if it was part of the show, but he looked like he might cry and lost his slippahs, so I'm quite sure it wasn't :( read more

We have gone for the past 2yrs and absolutely loved it, but this yr was awful in comparison! We always expect long lines, but got there early on Monday and considering it's still early Oct, didn't expect to wait for 1 1/2hrs in line. Some of the canoes were not full, which didn't make sense, what a waste when so many are waiting. No one in our canoe screamed, it was not scary at all and the characters seemed bored, even the ones in the water. The Lady of the Lake walking across the water was the best part but missing this yr. There were many parts with no music, nothing to watch, lame. And bring your own food, they're hawking crappy items and food while you wait, definitely bring your own water. Save your $, find another venue to be scared. read more

This year the Haunted Lagoon was longer and had a new area, actors, costumes. There were some cool illusions I hadn't seen before. The line went all the way to the theater tonight but they kept the line moving pretty fast. They also had some fun things to do while waiting in the line. Wasn't planning on going but my boy mentioned that he wanted to go so off we went. Thought it wouldn't be too bad since there was UH football the same night. WRONG! I had originally called the ticket office to book our tickets and asked if we should get the fast pass. The operator told me that it probably wasn't necessary and to check with will call if I should get it then. That was a big mistake. When I reached will call they told me fast pass was sold out. I'm not sure about the weekdays but weekends are crowded. Our wait was about three hours. Although fast pass is nearly double the ticket price at three hours wait time it would have been worth it. Folks mention that there are activities to do while waiting in line. This is partially true. But if the line is long the activities are only towards the last hour's wait at the max. So if the line is three hours long you've got two boring hours of wait time. PLUS, if you don't plan on taking advantage of the activities, it's moot. I can't remember if you can but I'd suggest taking in least a few bottles of water with you. Waiting two or three hours can build up your thirst. For the most part, most folks in line are pretty cool. Even the school kids seemed to be pretty well behaved. Given the religious affiliation of the Cultural Center I don't think they'd stand for too much rowdiness anyway. The ride is fun and impressive for being locally produced. Kudos go out to all the actors. In the beginning the water spooks really give you a jump, especially the ones that jump from the trees into the water. But after awhile I found it a little too predictable. There was some misdirecting of your attention that would allow another set of actors to scare the crap out of you. If they did those more I think the ride would be much more fun. Someone said earlier that you won't get very wet. Well, it depends on where you sit and a lot on chance. Our seats were fairly wet when we got in the canoe and I'd say my shorts and legs got fairly wet by the end of the ride. Maybe not soaked but enough to damage a nice designer bag or your phone. I'd suggest bringing a garbage bag or similar to protect your belongings. One thing that irritated me are the folks that bring their young kids on the ride. While every child has a difference fear tolerance, I really don't think this is a ride for kids under 6 or even 7. It's dark and you've got some really scary looking actors. And there's no exiting the canoe if you're too scared. There was a kid in front of me and I swear he was really scared. His dad kept trying to talk to him and tell him it was okay. I don't think it worked. Poor kid... The ride is a good 20 to 30 minutes long. Parking as others have mentioned is crazy. $8 for the parking lot in front and $5 for the lot WAY in the back. Going in there are staff all along the way directing traffic. Problem is later in the evening they all dig out. While it's not a problem finding your way back it'd be nice if PCC kept a few folks out there making sure everyone gets back to their cars safely. I mean ALL the attendants were gone! Would I go back? Nah. Not really for me. But my wife and my boy thought it was way cool so we'll probably go back again next year. Fast Pass here we come! One additional observation, I'm glad PCC doesn't use Ticketmaster to sell the tickets. Keeps prices where they should be without the fee's and rip off's associated with Ticketmaster. read more

The first year I went, it was nothing to be desired, sorry to say. As Haunted Attraction enthusiasts, my BF and I have gone to big, elaborate horror productions around the mainland. And every October, we go and check out all the haunted events that our Honolulu has to offer hoping for the best. So the first year that the Haunted Lagoon started we got excited. No other attraction offers it on a boat ride! We got there excited, left quite disappointed. This was back in '09. Fast forward to '12. A good friend of ours arranges for us to make a night of it, rent a limo and go to the Haunted Lagoon with Fast pass tickets. We thought maybe it'd be better this time around. Okay, this year was just a tad bit better, but not any more effective. Lots of kids performing in the attraction. Cute, but not scary. The canoe had a good 2 inches of water at the bottom of it. The scarers just come out of the water, soak you and wade away. After the first couple times, it becomes ineffective... a little annoying. So basically you ride through watching scenes being played out along the river bank, scarers popping out of the water at you, and animatronic creatures roaring here and there. If you scare easily, then this is perfect for you. I could see this being totally thrilling for someone else. But for people who don't scare easily at all, not worth the $ AND the long drive out to Laie. read more

This is my first time going to Haunted Lagoon and I must say I loved it. I like how they have two haunted houses before you get to the lagoon. The first haunted house is better than the second one because it is in 3D. Haunted Lagoon scared me hahaha because the monsters pop out of the water when you least expect it. The only part that sucked is that it rained while waiting in line for 3 hours but I must say it was worth it. You do have to pay for parking $5. I'd definitely go again next year. read more

while i have nerves of steel and am very difficult to startle, i must say that i was moderately impressed with this particular haunted-whatever in hawaii. very interesting effects, at times well choreographed, cast members were very in character, overall very family oriented. one thing i did not enjoy was stepping into a boat that had about an inch of water at the bottom, with my nicer shoes and pants on. the lagoon water is pretty filthy as anyone that has been there in the daytime should know. doesnt seem like the healthiest idea for people to be wading around in it, but i guess no harm done since this wasn't the first time they've ever done it. read more

My friends and I went on a Saturday. We drove an hour and got there around 6:30pm. We picked up our general kama'aina tickets from will call and waited a total of three hours in line. There were vendors going down the line selling $5 glow in the dark toys and $1-4 snacks/drinks. The line had a total of three haunted houses to walk through along with a picture taking section (for purchas after). The lagoon ride was about 30 minutes. My friends and I got to sit in the front. Caution, you will get wet. A picture of the canoe riders is also taken (for purchase after). Fun ride. both pictures together came out to $25. I think if I ever go back I'll buy the fast pass. read more

I came here in Oct 2012. I came on a weeknight at about 6pm. I timed the wait in line - it took 1 hour and 45 minutes from when we got in line to when we sat down on the canoe. The ride itself was pretty cool and rather long in duration - like 30 mins. It was entertaining - but the line was so so long. I might go again sometime - but the line is killer! read more

I'm not a fan of haunted houses or anything haunted but I actually enjoyed haunted lagoon. They had some scary or creepy moments in there but I thought it wasn't too bad. I think the fact that there were a lot of people on the boat with us alleviated the chill factor. I would go again. read more
