Nice coffee spot in Biltmore by Safeway. Kind of cramped and rushed and hectic. It's got seating inside up along the walls, and front seating viewing the parking lot. You can Keep an eye on your car but it's not scenic. The coffee is self serve and they have the heavy cream that I like. There's pretty artwork on the walls, maybe from local artists. There's a back patio area too, good for dogs . I saw a few pastries that looked flaky and fresh made. Sometimes it's really bustling with a lively morning crowd bu this Monday was a bit quiet. Staff is friendly and quick.

Fast and friendly service! Casual setting, perfect for grab n go in the morning, if you're running late. They have coffee granitas, if you that's your thing (which it is, for my hubby), but it is VERY SWEET. So, good for dessert.

Hava Java was a treat! After a long hike, my pup and I went in search of some coffee and a pup cup. We found Hava Java on 32nd street and decided to try it out. I ordered an iced lavender americano with a splash of milk and a pup cup for my dog. I'm not sure if they are dog friendly so I left him in the car out front and could keep an eye on him through the big front windows. There is a spacious outdoor seating area and seating inside the shop, which is small but cozy. The barista was super friendly and we exchanged pictures of our dogs. I have 4 stars because the americano was a tad watery and the lavender was a little on the soapy side. I'll definitely go back whenever I visit the mountains in the area!

This place is my favorite cafe in the neighborhood. It hits the mark on all their items and the service is always incredible. I love coming here for that afternoon pick me up or that easy Sunday experience. It's a chill, laid back, and cozy place to hang out, do work, or even catch up with friends. You cannot got wrong with anything you order. Pick something from their menu or if you know what you like, tell the barista and they'll make it for you. GREAT COFFEE SHOP The AC and fans in here are so cold and strong! This is a great spot to chill on a laptop or read a book. There are some tables outside that would be nice during cooler months of the year. There is good quality free wifi, password "thankyou" The employee helping me today was friendly! My drink came out delicious with my addition of oat milk. I'll be back!

Cute place! Was surprised I hadn't heard of this place until recently. It wasn't busy at all when I went and my chai was ready fast! I got a hot chai latte with almond milk. I do think it could've used a little more of the chai, it tasted a bit too watery/milky for my liking but was otherwise good. Would probably try a mocha or something next time but glad I got to come here!

Pretty good cup of Java, in a nice neighborhood environment. They have lots of coffee options and some pastries. They are quick in the morning and the parking is easy. And they adjoin a gelato store which opens in the afternoon! I love to support local businesses which is why I stopped by in the first place, but the good coffee and great service has kept me coming back. read more

Best place to start a day. I travel a lot for business and this is my favorite coffee joint. Service is great and the crowd of locals are always nice. The staff smiles and treats you like you matter and you are important. HJ is the best. read more

Stay away from this place if you want a good cup of coffee and courteous service. The latte was lukewarm and mostly milk. I could not taste coffee. When I asked for a cheese danish, the locals in line behind me and the barista acted like I had said something really stupid. WE DON'T HAVE CHESE DANISHES. No offer of anything else, no suggestions. Just the attitude GET GOING AND GET OF HERE. WILL YA! Next time I'll go to LA Grand Orange or any Starbucks. read more

Hava Java is a decent alternative to Starbucks. I just had a coffee and it was as good as you could get other places. I was really in the mood for a good coffee and pastry but I passed on the pastry because they looked underwhelming. But it looked like it was a neighborhood hang out which is nice to see a local business making it. read more

This has been my favorite coffee place for almost five years. Season is my favorite barista. She always knows how to make a new excellent drink. Mornings are getting a tad busier so plan accordingly. The patio is super relaxing. They also provide free wifi which is nice. Much better quality drinks than Starbucks read more

I love Hava Java. Great coffee and tea drinks.Plus, the staff and owner are friendly and always make me feel appreciated. I can easily walk to Hava Java from my office which I think is great! I also buy the coffee beans and loose tea to take home. And, the beans have proven to be a great gift to friends. Really good beans. I'm happy to support this local business. I always tell people if Hava Java closes, I'll have no reason to stay in Arizona! Best coffee and teas in the valley (raspberry/apricot is the way to go) with always the friendliest service. Baristas are always happy to customize any drink for you. I've been visiting for 15 years and the quality has never wavered. Try the raspberry muffins and chocolate chip scones! Do yourself a favor: skip Starbucks and head to Hava Java! read more

I tried the recommendations of a fellow yelper& I do agree the peppermint white hot chocolate with a shot of expresso is very good! Not a fan of the coconut milk that was suggested but a great option if you're lactose intolerant. Very reasonable prices& chill atmosphere. The gelato place next door was good to taste while waiting ;-) read more

I stopped in today since I was craving an Italian soda after my yoga workout. The staff was super friendly, welcoming and quick to make the drinks. I am a regular at the Gelato Spot and can't believe I never stopped in Hava Java before. Great location, great selection and great staff! read more

Sorry "Dana P," I could not disagree with you more! Hava Java is FABULOUS and the self serve coffee bar speeds up the line (unless you are too much of a princess to pour your own) I love supporting the local coffee shops, especially when they are better than their corporate competition. As for the .25 cent service fee, I'm ok with it, they have to pay every time people use credit cards and their cheap prices more than make up the difference and they have free wifi! Over all Hava has great coffee, friendly staff, wonderful espresso, and their brewed to order iced tea is out of this world. Hava Java, you have found a life time customer in me; keep up the good work! read more

My friends and I had an hour to kill before the Elite Great Gatsby Yelp Event. So after a stop at the sex shop down the street, which is a whole other story, we stopped in here for a drink. Now I am not a coffee person at all. Not even close. The closest I will get to coffee is a frappuccino which is nowhere near coffee which is why I like it. I was looking over the menu looking for anything I might like and noticed they had Italian Soda. Hey that sounds good. The woman behind the counter, who was very nice, realized that we were newbies so she explained how things worked. Basically you can get any flavor you want in any drink you want. So I settled on a peppermint Italian Soda. The prices I noticed were very cheap for a coffee place. I was expecting smaller sizes for that price but no I ordered a medium and it was pretty big. Much bigger than I expected. Plus with 10% off for checking in it was great. Once I placed my order my drink was made very quickly and with a great attitude. It tasted great. Cool and refreshing and it hit the spot. After looking over the other reviews I wonder if I went to the same place because I had a great experience and would go back again if I was ever in that neighborhood. Maybe I went on a good day or they have straighten things out or something. But for the price and the taste of my drink I would definitely recommend it. read more

Very mediocre! I was so surprised at the quality of coffee here after reading the reviews and accolades! First of all, no ceramic mugs for enjoying your cup there. Secondly, the latte I ordered was barely hot, no velvety foam, and not even great flavor. The place was very busy and the paper cups stated something about being voted the best local coffee shop. Well, I was in the area for three days and tried 3 places and this would get my vote for third place. Just to clarify, I do consider myself to be somewhat of a coffee snob and while on vacation, always looking for that perfect, local, coffee shop. The employees were friendly, but if you want a really good coffee drink, keep looking. read more

History

Established in 1991.

Hava Java began in Phoenix, Arizona on January 27, 1992. From humble beginnings, Justin Shafer ("Mr. Hava Java") had a dream of a friendly place, where the world's best coffees, from the finest beans were served in a family atmosphere. He started his dream outside with the only state of the art gourmet coffee cart in Arizona. He went on to build a gourmet coffee business that soon became a legend. Because of Justin's dream, Hava Java is now the longest running gourmet coffee company in Arizona. Hava Java uses only the finest roasted coffee beans and the most select ingredients to achieve the highest quality products. Bottom line, you can't buy or make a better cup of coffee than Hava Java. By the way, his gourmet coffee cart is still a Hava Java trademark! Justin's motto: "Serve our customers only the very best product, as expediently as possible, in a clean environment and make them our friends".

Meet the Business Owner: Justin S.

Justin, a Northwest transplant, studied coffee and the coffee business in Seattle, WA and Portland, OR for 2 years just prior to relocating in 1991 to Phoenix, AZ to bring Arizona it's first coffee cart and coffee house. "I grew up in the Northwest but I was ready for warmer weather and sunshine. Being in an outside sales position that covered the entire states of Oregon and Washington I was able to study the burgeoning coffee industry every day of the week. Once I decided I was going to go into the coffee business for myself, I made it my personal mission to visit every coffee house and coffee cart in the state of Washington and I did just that!" "What you get at Hava Java today is a culmination of all the great things I learned from those experiences along with the superior service skills that have always been my number one priority in everything I have done. I recently visited Hava Java and encountered an uncomfortable situation. When I approached the counter to order, the employee with pink hair initially seemed hesitant to serve me and instead asked a black colleague for assistance. As I waited, I observed the same employee readily helping the person behind me, which left me feeling uneasy. Additionally, when I walked past the tip jar, she made a rushed gesture that felt strange as if implying I was not trustworthy or perhaps she was having poor judgment and likely an assumption of my character as if I would potentially steal. I hope to bring attention to this experience as it seemed like there might be a disparity in how customers are treated, and I believe it's essential to ensure a fair and inclusive environment for everyone in 2024. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Hava Java for almost three years, and I think it's the best coffee house in Phoenix. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else for my coffee. Their French and Italian roasts are first-rate. Bold yet smooth and flavorful, and never, ever bitter. I love that, when you order just coffee, you can pour and prepare your own, to your own specific taste. I have always loved that about Hava Java. Hava Java has an independent, urban, city feel to it. It's nice to spend time there and pretend that I'm not in the barren wasteland that is Phoenix. The staff cannot be beat. They are all knowledgable about coffee and tea as well. Eek me thinks not is right. I don't know who is running this place but they need a serious change in operation. First thing, coffee is mediocre at best; "hot coffee" served luke warm, weak tasting coffee, slowest service I have ever experienced at a food and beverage shop, and the cleanliness of the establishment is concerning. I'm new to Yelp but with the awful experience I had here I was compelled to get on here and inform the patrons on what kind of "service" they are providing. And just like Angela H. mentioned below in her review about the owner Justin...this guy is ridiculous. So arrogant and cocky, carries himself poorly. This place is a popular spot for locals. They have a wide selection of coffee drinks and a pretty decent pastry case. I recommend their yogurt, fruit and granola cups. Outdoors seating is plentiful, however it's near the parking in front and can be a bit loud. Bad Wifi. First it makes you give a password, so you have to stop what you're doing, leave your laptop behind to hunt down a worker, get a slip of paper from him that looks like a fortune in a fortune cookie, then Qwest tells you that someone in the place has a virus and it has shut down the whole restaurant's wifi.
