The downside is if you only have an hour for lunch it's not a great idea to come here as it took 30 minutes for our food to come out. I used to go here after school with a friend and we would always get hot pressed Cuban sandwiches. Everyone here is very friendly and the restaurant is so well decorated! If you're looking for a more substantial meal, I recommend the ropa vieja or arroz con pollo. read more

I wouldn't really recommend this restaurant. I was excited to have some good Cuban sandwiches based on the reviews I read, but it was a bit of a let down. Everybody in my party thought the food was decent and edible, but nothing could be described as delicious. They receive 2 stars because; we ordered 25 minutes in advance, they said it would take 10 minutes... but the food was not ready when we arrived and we had to wait 5 additional minutes (on our way to a wedding, so time was important). Additionally, the sandwiches weren't really flavorful in anyway, were cold, and skimpy in ingredients. The only things that were generous were the bread and mustard. The customer service also wasn't great in any way. If you just want a sandwich and you're in the area and there aren't any alternatives, then maybe give it a try. Otherwise, I don't intend to go back, even if I am in town. read more

Oh my! After reading positive reviews I tried this restaurant. The regular waitstaff/cook must not have been in attendance, as a friendly but very forgetful teenage boy was running the show. Based on the service and the uniqueness of the place, I would give it a solid 5. My server was fantastic and a gentleman who appeared to be an owner came out to check on me, too. I had the Miami, which is a Cuban with chorizo. The price was reasonable, the bread was excellent and the sandwich was very good. I had a side of yucca which looked delicious and was plentiful but a little bland and there were some tough, stalky bites in there. The owners re-opened their doors to serve us a late dinner. They gave us extra food and were so kind. Highly recommended!

When I went in for lunch I let them know I would be using an expired groupon and was not treated badly because of it. I ordered the shredded pork with yellow rice and beans to go. My cost was $1.50 after the groupon and the lady that assisted me was very warm and friendly. She thanked me as I left and told me it was good seeing me. It was absolutely delicious!! The pork was so moist and flavorful. The yellow rice and beans were great as well. The portion was a nice size. It was so good that I ate more than I should've and I still had some left for later. I don't go to Bartow often (reason my groupon was expired), but this sure gives me a reason to. I look forward to trying the pork chunks everyone seems to enjoy on here :-) Also the friendliness of the lady (probably a owner) would alone make me want to patronize this small business :-) read more

After several years freeloading on Yelp I finally feel compelled to write a review after an amazing experience at this restaurant a couple of days ago. This is a small, modest restaurant with a welcoming and pleasant staff (I assume the owners). I've had little experience with Cuban food, but with some guidance from my friendly waitress, I decided on the shredded pork, yellow rice, and black beans. Wow, wow, wow!!! The pork was tender and flavorful - like nothing I've ever tasted. My waitress offered me an wonderfully spicy homemade pepper relish which added perfectly to an already amazing meal. I'm back home in the Midwest, still taking about it and wishing I lived closer to Bartow! Don't hesitate, this place is GREAT!!! read more

This was not just great food it was the whole experience that made it a fun night out. The owners are proud Cubans and a LOT of fun! I had the Pork Chunks and I'll will tell you that they are going to be on my mind until I get back to Bartow next year. We're "not from around here," but we're sure glad to have happened upon this authentic little Cuban café tucked into a small storefront in downtown Bartow. We were somewhat surprised to find genuine Cuban cuisine in a quaint country setting, but we couldn't have been happier with the food. An amazing place for home made cuban food with the feeling of eating at home. I just tried the deviled crabs and they are unbelievable. The best I've had in my life. The pork chunks were also delicious. This is by far the best cuban restaurant around. Not fancy, just down home fantastic cooking and you get treated like family. i had read many good reviews about this restaurant before trying for the first time.I ordered a cuban sandwich and black beans with yellow rice.The beans and rice were very good but the cuban was not.Every cuban i have ever eaten has had sliced pork on it.This had chopped pork with very sour mojo sauce mixed in.The pork was all mushy and turned the crispy cuban bread into a soggy mess.The amount of meat on the cuban was very skimpy.I ate half and threw the rest of this mess away.I owned two sub shops in the 80's and know what a good sandwich should taste like.This isn't it! read more

Came across this place for lunch on a 'road trip', they bake (and sell) their own Cuban bread, me and my wife both had sandwiches made on the Cuban bread along with a nice hot cup of Café con leche. In town for a family reunion and since this place had high ratings I decided to check it out. I tried the deviled crab, not knowing what to expect. It was like a croquet with crab meat, large,filling. Not anything like deviled crab in Maryland. I also had a mango drink, not listed on the menu, made with fresh mango. This was very good and refreshing on a hot Florida day. Since they didn't have rope vieja I tried the grilled fish. The fish fillet was large seasoned well but a little heavy on the salt. Driving through this little town on our way back to Naples and we decided to stop here for a late lunch. My sister and I were craving Cuban sandwiches. She ordered the media noche and I ordered the Cuban. The water tasted horrible... We couldn't even drink it. After waiting about about half an hour for our sandwiches, they finally came out. There was barely any meat inside the sandwiches, and the pork tasted old and was dry and crunchy.... We had to take it out. Cuban sandwiches are supposed to have pickles, but there weren't any. It was mostly mustard and bread. We took a few bites and were left with a horrible taste in our mouths. My sister used the restroom while we were there, and had to walk by the kitchen, and she told me that she would be surprised if the place was up to code. The only reason I'm giving this place one star is because I have to, and because the owner was nice, but geez... She must know what she's serving! Wow!! read more
