So be prepared to sit in sun/part shade even though no one is there to sit in the 2x available 6tops! Very very poor customer service. We order drinks and calamari which came out very fast. The calamari was very chewy but it was not bad. I ordered the daily special which was the mahi mahi. The waitress asked if I wanted it grilled blackened or Carolina style. Failed to say that Carolina style cost more. We also ordered Carolina Bison Burger medium. The waitress was on point bringing refills without even asking. The mahi mahi was great. Not $34 dollars great. But definitely not worth the $5 extra for Carolina style. The asparagus was raw. Not cooked at all. The burger. Looked delicious... but it was completely raw when you bite it. The waitress took it away and we just wanted the check. The maybe manager, he never introduced himself, came over to kinda rudely apologize. We're in Carolina Beach to have a nice relaxing dinner and we chose Havanas because the porch looks inviting. We were quoted a 10-15 minute wait and it was 1/2 hour. Our table was around the side on the porch. My husband's view was the side of the house. The menu is very overpriced. $20 for 2 tacos, no thanks. $30 fettuccine Alfredo, pass. We both got a bowl of soup and a Caesar salad. The soup was room temperature and had a strong lemon flavor. If anyone in the kitchen had bothered to taste their soup they would have realized something was wrong with it. The Caesar was not on romaine but spring mix. The dressing was also sour. This place deserves 5 stars based on service alone. Every interaction we had with the staff was beyond kind and welcoming. Our server went above and beyond. The food was incredible. We had the S&S Alfredo and the Carolina Salmon and can't recomendable them enough. They were so light and delicious, the scallops from the Alfredo melted in your mouth. Havana's was recommended as it was across the street from the hotel. Started with the calamari, the sweet and spicy sauce really makes it, and is a large portion. The dinner rolls were soft and hot with a little sweetness, comes with butter. The French Quarter Pasta was so delicious. The meats were not hidden in the pasta and there was plenty to have with each bite. Also tried the volcano shrimp and hot crab dip which were good as well. You can't go wrong with the food. For a place with Havana in the name, you would expect more of a Cuban-flavored menu. Alas, it was more of a surf and turf deal. We arrived around 5:30 on a Tuesday night. Staff was nice enough once we got their attention, but we had to sit in the sun because it was a 45 minute wait to go inside. We had to flag down servers to get drinks, though by that point I had already gone to the bar to get sodas and waters. Food was mediocre at best. I got the shrimp and grits. Tasted fine, but the texture and presentation was like a bowl of Velveeta smothering crushed Graham crackers. Just a bowl of goop. I could only eat it with a lot of bread. Sweet butter with the bread? Why? The kids' meal hot dog had honey on it? Why? Unfortunately, the restaurant options along this stretch of beach are pretty poor. The only person that was in sight was a small child that was sitting at the bar. The hostess/waitress was not very friendly and had a condescending tone in her voice. We started our meal by ordering the conch fritters. When they arrived they were very dark and looked almost burnt. The inside was extremely chewy and dense. I have been to Jamaica several times and had conch fritters. These were nothing in comparison. The dill sauce that was served with it was not very flavorful but did help get the food down. My husband and I both ordered the fish tacos from the lunch menu. When they came out the fish also looked burnt as if it was fried in old oil that had not been changed in awhile. My tater tots were hot at least. My husband tried the BBQ Ranch pasta and was not impressed with the flavor. It tasted like pasta salad that would be served in a cafeteria. The waitress came around to the hostess stand and stared at us while we were finishing up our meal. Another waitress was walking around the empty restaurant with a menu clutched to her chest looking like a space cadet. She seemed confused as to where she was and what she should be doing. We might come back for a drink one day or perhaps to try their award winning chowder. If we want a nice dining experience then I do believe that we will look elsewhere. This place is good, nothing spectacular though. The actual restaurant is really pretty but the prices in comparison to what you get isn't necessarily worth it. Don't get me wrong, I ordered the shrimp over lobster grit cake and it was tasty...but for $20, I expect pieces of lobster. I had none. The shrimp were big and fresh though which made me happy. My boyfriend ordered the Coca Cola steak tips and he said it was good but tasted absolutely no cola. He really enjoyed the mashed potatoes it came with. We had a terrible experience at Havanas! We understood there was a long wait to be seated, and we were okay with that but it took over an hour to receive our food. When we got it, parts of our meal was missing and the drinks from the bad didn't arrive until halfway through the meal. Our waitress was clearly doing more than her job called for and she was trying her best but then the manager (Tamara maybe was her name) seemed to have punished her for the complaint by marking through the "tip" line on our receipts after we brought the concerns to her attention. If this is what happens when a staff member has an issue at their table I feel sorry for their work environment. Then, when we were leaving the restaurant the man in the vehicle next to us, stumbled and wobbled to his vehicle. After these two incidents, my husband mentioned his drink was pretty stiff. On the other hand, the staff was very nice and I enjoyed the food. The service was pretty quick. The salmon stuffed crab was delicious. Also, the risotto and spinach were perfect accompaniments. My MIL loved her crab cakes. On the other hand, my Husband did not like the soggy Ceasar salad but said the French Onion soup was good. Came here for early evening drinks and apps. Menu and prices are exactly what you would expect for a tourist location a block away from the beach. Our server tried really hard but there was a critical issue with our order. We saw a couple of tables with HUGE plates of nachos when we came in and they looked great so we ordered an appletini, a margarita on the rocks with salt, and pulled pork nachos to start. Requested the pulled pork and the sour cream on the side since I'm a veggie. The Apple Martini was perfect but the Patron Margarita tasted like straight shots of tequila on ice. Maybe the bartender forgot the mixers (?). When our nachos came, we received a small amount of chips in a single layer on the plate with a minuscule amount of cheese on them, along with a dish of pulled pork. (no scallions, jalapenos, or pico de gallo). When our server came back to the table she saw that we were missing ingredients and happily offered to take it back to the kitchen and fix it. We told her it's no prob since we already ate a few of the chips and told her she can just bring the missing toppings on the side. However, she did the right thing and insisted on taking the whole dish away, offering to bring a completely new one, properly prepared as ordered (excellent customer service!) But then she came back later with the same plate. This is where things got weird. The kitchen had pushed the chips over into a small pile, placed our dish of pork onto the other half of the plate, put some new hot cheese onto the remnants of our now-cold food items, and sent it back out later without even heating it up. We also received jalapenos on the side (still not on the nachos). I'm pretty sure it's UNSANITARY to take food that has been handled/eaten by a guest back into the kitchen, sit it somewhere, then when you get around to it, push it in a pile, and add new hot items to the cold ones. At that point we just thanked the server for her effort and let it go because that was a wrap. Also, we never did get our scallions or pico de gallo. This in no way reflects on our server because she tried to do the right thing and she was apologetic about it but I know from my days in food service that's NOT the way food should be handled in a restaurant kitchen. I understand they were busy but cleanliness and sanitation should never be compromised to save time. Kitchen staff should never accept any food back into the kitchen and handle it after guests have started eating from it as they are preparing meals for other diners. Also you don't pile new hot ingredients on top of old cold food that comes back. The old cheese was actually congealed on the bottom chips and on the side of the plate. They didn't even try to hide it by putting it on a new plate. Ughhhhhh The crazy part is, they wouldn't even have been replacing a high-ticket item by making new nachos. It's literally tortilla chips, tomatoes, and cheese. Needless to say, we did NOT stay for dinner. read more

The menu said I was ordering Fresh Angus beef, not a well done frozen patty that frankly was outdone by Hardee's on a bad day Avoid this place if vacationing in Carolina Beach. Delicioso! We went to the aquarium and decided to eat local since we've never been to Wilmington. Although yelp gave it 3 stars, there was praise on the taste of the food. So we went and we were not disappointed. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was hot and fresh and enough to fill you up but not take home. I ordered the Seafood Lobster Bake, my husband had the CHA CHA Salmon and we shared the Bananas Foster. They were out of lemonade for the kids but they made chocolate milk, which isn't on the menu. We came in at 7:30pm on a Sunday evening for our anniversary dinner while we are down here at the beach for the weekend. We were seated right away at a high-top by the outside bar, which was really nice since there would have been a wait otherwise. Unfortunately, that's where good things ended. We placed our orders shortly after sitting down. After an hour wait, our waitress went off to check with the kitchen. Food came out moments later, and both orders were incorrect. Our waitress did not reappear for almost 10min. When she finally did, we sent the food back to be corrected. At 8:50pm, still no food, the manager came to check if we still wanted dinner. What was our alternative at almost 9pm on Sunday night?! Of course we still wanted dinner, we just wanted it as ordered. End state: over 90min for a salad and pasta, poor service, poor experience. Won't revisit on future trips. UPDATE: The manager removed the entrees from our tab, so we only ended up paying for drinks and appetizer, which was nice.
