Located near Target, we celebrated a family member's birthday here with not one but TWO escape rooms. Surprisingly, photos are allowed, but I was too involved with trying to escape that I did not take any photos. Inside the rooms, there were clever clues to solve even one involving a BB gun to shoot targets to get clues when the target fell! Of course we had to try one of the hardest rooms, "Prison Break" which we almost didn't escape, but our host was great at helping us solve the puzzles. After our first game was over, our host offered a 20% discount on our next room which we took him up on. As it turns out, Groupons offers a discount on Monday - Thursday.....next time.

This was the first time I did an escape room! Booking the time slots were easy to do online or over the phone. It is $45/person, but if you're kama'aina, you get a little discount. Just ask, present your ID and they'll assist you with a refund. There are waivers to sign so I recommend to complete it beforehand on the website. If not, they have available tablets there to do them. We chose to do the most difficult room 9/10, Prison Break. We had 7 people in our group (max 8 for the room) and we split into 2 groups, for cell 1 and cell 2. Our room moderator was Joseph and he had awesome energy. He quickly gave us the rules so we could get started. For one whole hour, he was a great help, giving us hints when we needed it the most. I don't want to spoil anything for Prison Break, but you will need very good communication at first in the separate cells. When we get through the first room, we come together and solve the rest as a group. We successfully escaped with only 5 minutes remaining! I highly recommend to try it out. I had a blast. We will return to try the other rooms as well.

This escape room is located in Ala Moana Shopping Center. It's a great place to spend an hour challenging your brain during a game where you have to find clues and solve puzzles to escape a room. It's so much fun as an activity for a couple or small group. We tried the Timeliner escape room with four people. We liked the puzzles and the room design.

These guys are top notch! Made reservations & paid online. I had 4 minors planning to do the Train game on their own, signed & submitted waivers. Because each game can hold up to 8 players, there were 4 more spots open for their game. 2 adults reserved spots. When my kids went to play, due to the adults that had signed up they needed their own adult present for safety factors. I questioned it but appreciated it. They allowed me to attend the game without paying & to be there to observe. My kids enjoyed this one! Everyone worked well together & o my needed to ask the game master for one hint. Super cool game! Great staff! We'll be back to check out the newest Game Show game (can accommodate 14 people!)

My family and I celebrated a birthday doing The Great Big Game Show. The Escape Room Game expanded and now does a fun game show! We reserved a private room. I believe if you don't book a private room, you play with other players who sign up for the same time slot. It was a ton of fun! The game show host did a great job! I can't recall her name but she kept the energy high and made it lots of fun! The games we played were also entertaining! I would definitely go again! Highly recommend the great big game show!

If you never tried escape room game before then you are missing out. This location is inside Ala Moana shopping center, lots of parking. They have a lot of different games with different level of difficulty that you can choose from. Upon arrival, you need to sign a waiver. And the game host will lead you to the room and explain a few details and you can start playing the game. The game usually last one hour, there's a button you can press to get hints and you can get unlimited hints to help you finish the game we always try not to use the hints as much as possible. I must say the few games that I played at this place are pretty fun and somewhat difficult. It makes it pretty challenging but rewarding when you escape. I also believe if you have a larger group of people, it will help solve the game easier. They do have toilet but only one for male, one for female. When people finish the game, everybody standing in line to use the bathroom. One thing I don't like is the room is really dark, so hard to see and read, especially I have to wear a reading glasses. All and all, a very fun place for gathering and team building. Recommended.

So this was my first time at this location. It was so easy from the booking online to checking in. I highly recommend! We booked for a group of 9 but ended up with just 8 people. Because we paid in advance I was able to get a refund for the one person who couldn't make it. Also, kamaʻāina get a discount so it was taken of our total cost at check in. I didn't know what to expect but I assumed there would be several challenges and rooms to go through. No spoilers so I won't say how many rooms we had. Our group did The Heist which was really cool. The story is that we had to expose a fraud by getting into the office and finding the stolen goods and of course it had to be done in less than an hour. The group I came with is the youth group which I am an advisor for so this was an excellent communication and team building activity. Everyone was able to participate and one of the teens said it was neat to see how others in the group think and problem solve. I felt that each person's view was needed in order for us to complete the tasks. There are unlimited hints but we tried really hard not to ask for too many. My only disappointment was that there wasn't an official photo with your time that you could take (like a board to write the finish time). However I really loved that we could take photos during the game and after with the props! Our room monitor Sharanne was so gracious and took several photos for us. A few tips for your visit: It helps to have paper and a pen to jot down some of the things that you are trying to find. Take pictures! It was fun to be able to take photos during the game. Make sure everyone participates! Sharanne wrote down each of our highlights during the game and we got a "recap card" at the end with the individual contributions. So cool and a nice reminder of good works. All the teens enjoyed the game and want to come back. If you book another visit or purchase a gift card before you leave you can get a discount on the booking!

Fun place for kids AND adults!

The experience was SUCH a blast - our host really brought the hype energy and got our group into the spirit. Without spoiling anything, the activities vary a lot in the skills required (some will be familiar from real-life game shows). This means that no one skill guarantees victory (I am terrible at trivia, but I still did pretty well!). We were hooting and hollering throughout the experience - luckily the rooms are closed off enough that it's okay to be loud! The team at GBGS also went above and beyond for us - we were celebrating a wedding AND a surprise pregnancy announcement, and the team helped us incorporate the pregnancy reveal into one of the games. It was such a special moment for everyone involved. They even gave us a hand-written note at the end congratulating the married couple and the new parents! Overall, I was blown away by the experience and the stellar customer service. 10/10 would recommend!!

The Ultimate Tenth Birthday - Like Stepping Onto a Real TV Set!…read more We recently celebrated my daughter's 10th birthday at the Great Big Game Show at Ala Moana Center, and it was an absolute hit! We brought a group of 8 kids, and from the moment we walked in, they felt like total celebrities. The front office staff made everyone feel welcome and explained what would be coming up, creating a sense of excitement before we entered the studio. Why the Kids Loved It: The "Real" Factor: This isn't just a living room setup. The venue is designed to look and feel exactly like a professional television game show set, complete with podiums, buzzers, and high-energy lighting. Our game show host Christian explained how everything would work and then lit the fuse! There was non-stop excitement from start to finish. Keeping eight 10 year-olds engaged and moving towards the goals was a feat of persistence but he did it and ensured that everyone had fun. High Engagement: With 8 kids competing, the energy was electric. The games were perfectly paced to keep ten-year-olds focused, excited, and laughing the entire time. The games were a blend of Jeopardy and Family Feud which were fun and easy for the kids. Inclusive Fun: Whether they were the "class clown" or a bit more reserved, every kid got their moment in the spotlight. It was competitive in the best way possible--lots of cheering and friendly rivalry. The Atmosphere: Our host Christian did a fantastic job of managing a group of energetic kids, making sure the rules were clear while keeping the "show" moving. It was organized, loud (in a good way!), and genuinely fun for the adults to watch, too. Final Verdict: If you're looking for a unique, high-energy birthday idea that stands out from the usual park or pizza place parties, make a booking for the Great Big Game Show. It was a "perfect ten" for her tenth birthday! Cost is reasonable and there's a Kamaaina discount!

Definitely exceeded that 3 hint limit! The room we did was the Y2K one, which was certainly a fun blast from the past room. For those who were 90s kids or fondly remember the 90s, this will definitely be your jam. The room itself was wide ranging of difficulty, while I wouldn't recommend for beginners, it's certainly got a good balance between difficult puzzles and easier ones. The room is also good for kids. Nothing jumpy with it that happens with this one, though, they might miss a lot of the references. But hey, if you're bringing your kids here you can tell them all about the things in there, "Back in my day...", and remind yourself how old you are! "Not an Escape Room, Just a Frustrating Candy Hunt"…read more I've done a lot of escape rooms, and I can confidently say this was the worst one I've ever experienced. We booked "Sadie's Sweet Shop" at Room with a Clue expecting a fun, candy-themed escape challenge. Instead, we got a poorly designed scavenger hunt with no story, no urgency, and no objective beyond collecting candy. There is no escape element whatsoever--you're not solving puzzles to get out or to advance a storyline. You're just wandering the room trying to figure out what random combination of props might unlock another piece of candy. It felt like the creator designed puzzles purely for their own amusement, not for the enjoyment of players. Many of the puzzles were confusing not because they were hard, but because they were disconnected, self-indulgent, and illogical. To make things worse, the room was filled with red herrings--not clever misdirections, just pointless distractions that wasted time and made the experience frustrating instead of fun. The whole game lacked cohesion. There was no narrative thread tying things together, no build-up, no satisfying payoff. Just a cluttered space full of unrelated tasks. It felt like a rough draft of an escape room, not something worth charging admission for. Escape room fans: skip this one. Honolulu has much better options. Save your time and money

Plus, since they only offer one breakout room, they probably can't make it too difficult. I LOVED that our administrator was just as excited and happy to be there as we were. She loves the idea of escape rooms, but panics when we're in them LOL! I scoured the internet for something we haven't done before and all the escape rooms were either too pricey, wouldn't explain how to escape when we inevitably didn't breakout, or didn't have private escape rooms. Then Google suggested Scaventours which in all my days of searching never appeared! Scaventours is on the ground floor of Marriot Waikiki. Opposite side of the hotel from the Valet. The side with the tour bus pickup. The sign says they're open daily from 9-7 I believe, but you can look up the games and book online. We booked our game morning of and all went well. There's no parking, so we parked at the Zoo like they suggested. We parked at the back half of the zoo (Mauka side) and just followed that road straight pass Denny's. That path lead us straight to the correct hotel entrance to find Scaventours easily. ALSO, the Zoo Parking wasn't taking debit cards and my husband only had a $10. He paid for 2 hours but the machine didn't give change so we got ripped. Be aware of that when parking there. After reading up on the games, I decided we would do Kanaloa's Curse. A scavenger hunt that stayed INSIDE the hotel with various puzzles fit for ages 6-11 even though some of them had me stumped. I appreciate that the game isn't timed and that there was an option to stay inside the hotel because I'm not trying to take my 7yo scavenger hunting on the streets of Waiks. It was super reasonably priced at $23 for my husband and I and $14 for my daughter. We were given the map and a clipboard of puzzles, complimentary pens and candy and we were off. The hunt took us through the ground floor of the hotel finding different things and solving puzzles. It took us just about an hour with my 7yo finding everything and doing every puzzle, so it was PERFECT for her!! At the end, we returned to the store, unlocked the treasure, she got some prizes, and we took photos with the mascot raccoon statue. She was immediately begging to do the rest of the hunts.
