We saw an advertisement about this place and decided to give it a shot. We only live a couple miles away. The inside is very clean and fairly simply decorated but I like that. Especially how clean everything looked. We opted for spring rolls to start. They came out very hot and I enjoyed them. Then my wife had a poke bowl and i ordered sesame chicken. so freaking random.... this place serves legit sichuan cuisine. with a name like "hawaii grill and poke" you would assume this place is a normal poke bowl place just like any others. But apparently, my wife mentions that this place hired the chef from a sichuan place in plano. We ended up getting: the duck blood, pig feet with jalapeño, hot and sour soup and braised eggplant w/ garlic sauce. Out of the entrees, i loved the eggplant with garlic sauce. It goes so well with rice. whatever you do, definitely get it. The duck blood "soup" also came with other items like spam, tripe and intestines and veggies. It was numbing and spicy, but definitely not too crazy. Also the hot and sour soup was amazing. The Ambiance is really laid back. There are a few seats inside, and i feel like its more like a take to go type of place. But in the front, you'll see the poke section. but in the back you can definitely hear the wok going off when cooking chinese food. New management! Decor has definitely been updated along with the menu. While they still have poke, they also have some more Chinese dishes as well. My husband and I came often with the previous management so it's hard to get used to the new. For example since we were regulars they knew exactly how much sauce we liked etc for our poke bowls, now it always seems like it needs more or less. Used to be a favorite place but it's gone down hill. Been to this place greater than 10 times and the last 4 visits have gotten worse and worse. Skimping on portions, increasing prices (which I can understand), poor communication and service. Today we waited 20 minutes for 3 bowels of build your own that we had to self order with their new kiosk, no one ever said hi, or even acknowledged us or the delayed make time. We saw them making mobile orders, which is fine, but acknowledgement would be nice. Eventually people came to dine in and 2 separate groups were receiving service as the bowls sat on the counter in the middle of production. Our ticket number was never called, they stapled up our bag and handed it to us and never said a word. Update: got home and 2/3 bowls were incorrect. 1 bowl didn't have the extra sauce as we paid extra for. And the 2nd bowl was not a custom but a duplicate of the first ordered. Called the location to ask for it to be refunded or to corrected and was met with defense that they had made it and they remember doing it correctly. The employee then tried to process a refund and we were told that their kiosk was not processing correctly. I am pleased to say that they offered to give us cash back instead, but we do have to go back to the shop. read more

Ok Poke. This area has A LOT of poke competition and I like this subway/chipotle style, build your own poke bowl concept at Hawaii poke and grill. What I had was just ok but it could've been my own fault for doing the wrong combinations. The staff was extremely accommodating and nice, allowing me to try different sauces on the side but the contents themself weren't packing a punch. Part of it was the temperature, everything seemed to be exactly the same room temperature where I would've preferred my crisp veggies be slightly chilled, like a slightly chilled cucumber, slightly chilled radish, even the tuna seemed to be room temperature. I think this little adjustment would go along way, adding to the texture and refreshing nature of the Poké bowl. Unfortunately, the soda machine was out of ice during my visit but I did see some good employee training and quality control measures of pokey creation for online orders. I love the poke at this place!! They opened not too long ago and I'm so glad I checked them out! We've actually ordered from them several times because we loved their food so much! Service is always fast and friendly! I love that they give you the option to build your own bowl. I choose that every time and salmon and tuna are my favorites. Pretty decent spot for poke! I got a build your own poke bowl and crab rangoons. The poke was yummy and fresh. They definitely put plenty of sauce on there. The pieces of fish were pretty big. I kinda wish they were sliced a bit smaller. Same with the avocado, mango, and pineapple. Super big pieces makes it hard to get a little bit of everything in one bite. The crab rangoons definitely didn't have any crab in them so it's was just cream cheese. They were very good though, just misleading calling them crab rangoons. I really hate to post low ratings but my ratings will always be honest. My sister and I were excited that there was another Poke place near us. We decided to stop by. There were very few pros and many cons. It was very clean inside, that's a pro. But the downfall was the price and not the best customer service. My sister got the volcano bowl. It was drenched with sauce.. just by looking at it, you'd think she asked for extra sauce. Before I ordered my bowl, I asked if I can have any substitutions if I ordered the volcano bowl. He said yes for no extra charge. The lady working with him came over and tried to charge me $2 extra for ONE substitution. It was confusing and embarrassing because there was a line. All the waiting for the other customers could've been avoided if it weren't so confusing. So I ended up building my own bowl. 2 bowls and 2 bottled drinks came out to be $30. Doesn't even seem right. This gotta be the SLOWEST poke spot I've ever been to in my life. The typical poke spots I go to, they do it like Chipotle style/Subway where they make it as you choose your toppings/goods to put in the bowl. For THIS one, you fill out a paper like you would do for Which Wich? And hand it to the cashier. Maybe it's just because we came at the worst possible time (8:15), but we waited about 20 minutes until we got our order of two bowls. Food wasn't bad though, but at the same time nothing out of this world in terms of the flavor. We were so excited to have another poke place open up nearby but we're left very underwhelmed. Service was good we were greeted with a friendly face who helped break down the menu and ordering process for us. The food was good but it just lacked the authenticity of real Hawaiian food. It was basically Asian styled food. It was a little pricey too 3 entrees ended up being 40$ without tip. The steak fried noodle dish was steak meat on top of lo mein. The steak dinner plate was your typical run of the mill beef rice place. I did a build your own poke but was disappointed by the lack of fish options. I ended up getting salmon and eel and it was yummy without any fishy smell. They limited you to 3 toppings of every category which isn't something I've seen a poke place do before. Well it's another restaurant which are really needed on Denton Hwy. The downside is, it's another restaurant on Denton Hwy that isn't anything special at all. Not a Hawaiian restaurant but more of a restaurant that serves Asian Style food. Was waiting for this spot to open and excited as I do love me some Hawaiian Style Poke. Turns out it's another poke bowl place that just does what everybody else is doing with these poke bowl restaurants popping up all across DFW. Service was great and the people are nice but doesn't make up for the slightly above average prices compared to the amount of serving I received. Got the poke bowl with spicy tuna but, it was way to saucy and the rice had a bitter taste to it and a little cold to my liking. Seasoning was quite different. Compared to Poke Stop or Kahunas I would put it a couple of notches below. I might give it another go but I would more than likely just go to another spot and default this way if I'm pressed for time. Ordered a BYO poke bowl.. Spicy tuna with mixed salad greens, via UberEats. Flavor is good and the options for topping are great. Spicy tuna was ground up (not cubed). Ive never had a poke bowl this way and while the flavor was fine, the appearance wasn't appealing. I did go back to Yelp to make sure I didn't miss that this is how it's served but the photos on here show cubes. It honestly reminds me of tuna salad and while I'm not sure of the quality of this tuna (would like to think it's sushi grade) it gives me the impression that it's not. Why grind up poke tuna and smother it on top, if sushi grade? Another thing to note, the sauces you choose are added on top and not on the side. The mixed greens became soggy pretty fast. This is a new spot that opened in Watauga. I was looking for some fresh poke bowl so I thought I try this place out. They were welcoming and nice as you walk in. They had different things on their menu other than just poke bowls. They even have kids menu like chicken nuggets grilled beef or chicken bowl. I got the build your own poke bowl which was ok. The fish was fresh but the bowl itself was a little small. The amount given was good but I would suggest to have it in a little bigger bowl so that you can mix it up instead of having your greens or rice in the bottom and things just pile on top. Customer service is not a priority for Hawaii Grill & Poke. We made an online order and when we picked up were given the wrong order. Our order was under the name Will and we were given a bag named Kareen, which was noticed when we got home and began pulling the food out. We immediately called and notified them of the mix up and asked if they could just remake our order and we would bring the incorrect one back. The girl who answered (Nikki) was very confused on how a mix up code even happen and would not agree to remaking the food but insisted we bring the wrong food back. Our order only included 2 poke bowls and an order of spring rolls. The order we received had 2 poke bowls (not ours), a ramen, and 1 spam wrap. Upon returning to the store Nikki was insistent that she gave us the right bag and couldn't fathom how we got the wrong food. They handed us a stapled bag with the wrong name, yet she insisted she confirmed all the food in the bag was correct when handing it to us. This did not happen. Nikki had horrible customer service with her lack of acknowledging she made a mistake and all we were asking for was our correct order to be remade. Instead she said she "doesn't have time" to remake the order despite the store being empty and 2.5 hours till closing. She then said she would refund us the money yet could not provide us with a receipt of the refund. We ended up walking out of the store without our order or proof of a refund. Nikki was however willing to sign the back of our order receipt saying she did the refund. So we'll see if we get our money back. I am sad to say we won't be back due to Nikki's lack of customer service over a simple mistake. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try since its new and he likes poke. Upon entering this place the tables are bolted to the ground and there are booths with chairs but the tables are too close and the booth chairs are too small so it was slightly inconvenient. My boyfriend and I ordered crab rangoon and miso soup for starters. My boyfriend ordered 2 poke bowls, the Yellow River Bowl and he built his own bowl. I ordered a build your own entree, since I wasn't really feeling poke, I just got a steak entree in hibachi. The total all together was $49 dollars, which I thought was a good price for the huge portions they gave us. The crab rangoon had 8 pieces and the miso soup was in a large bowl. The crab rangoon had no crab, just filled with a sweet cream cheese, the title is misleading. It tasted good to me, but I could not eat more than two pieces because it was too much sweetness for me at once. The miso soup tasted a bit more like the house soup you get when you go to a hibachi restaurant, it didn't taste good, but I wouldn't say it was too bad, it did not taste like miso though. My entree came out first and the steak had a lot of sauce over it, but when eating it, it was a small burst of flavor at first but once you chew it more it gets extremely bland. I ordered this entree with fried rice and the fried rice was so bland I couldn't even get more than 3 bites in. The entree came with my steak, broccoli and a few carrots, some grilled pineapple, and fried rice. I couldn't finish the steak or any other of my food in the entree simply because it was too bland. On the other hand, my boyfriend said the first poke bowl he got was ok, I believe the first bowl he ate was the build your own bowl. The second bowl that came he said he couldn't bring himself to finish it and he didn't want to even take it to-go and he always finishes his food or takes it home with him so he can finish it up later, so I was surprised. After eating for a bit we watched them make the poke bowls whilst sitting, my boyfriend said he didn't think that the fish tasted good either he said it tasted a little off. While watching them make the poke orders I noticed they put an ungodly amount of sauce on top of the bowls and I mean I can't even see the bowl anymore all I see is the sauce. I think the bowls would taste a lot better if they cut down on the sauce a little.
