Has gotten a massive facelift over the last three years. They now have a really top notch speakeasy in the innermost room. They have a totally redone Slack key lounge" which is way more upscale and modern now. This review is focused on the two young girls that work at the bar in the pool area. They are extremely rude and beyond unorganized. I saw quite a few people give up and leave the line because they were just uncomfortable with your bartenders. It's interesting as I post this I see the same complaints over and over so they must be related to ownership or something. Obviously if the public doesn't like your bartender, and you see the same thing over and over from a variety of people, you should listen. Yelp reviews are a great gauge. read more

It's been a while... YEARS.... since I last visited Hawaiian Brian's. The first time I visited was at their original location on Keeaumoku, way before the area was redeveloped. The most recent time had to have been in the mid-90s (yikes!!) when the entire place was pool tables and seats, with some video games. My kids recently started playing some pool game app on their smartphones, saying "it's soooo easy...." which got me thinking... hmmph, lets see how you do with the real thing! So about 6 months ago, we went to a different pool hall for them to try it out. The hall was well lit, and had a smaller table for them to play on, but they liked it. A LOT. Fast forward to now... It was my son's 15th birthday weekend, and he really, really wanted to play pool. Since parking at the other pool hall was so difficult the last time, we decided to take them to Hawaiian Brian's... to get the full effect of the pool halls we grew up with, back in the day. It was a Sunday morning, I saw on *yelp that Hawaiian Brian's was open, so I made a quick call to find out if tables were available. The guy that answered was very friendly and explained that in the early afternoon about 12 of their premium tables would be taken for a tournament, but for the time being, they had many tables wide open. I thanked him and we were on our way! We arrived and found out the place had sure changed a lot since my husband and I last visited. Gone were the days of the smoke filled pool hall, with people playing with a cigarette hanging from their mouth as they lined up their shot. Thankfully, because the tables were at the rear of the building, it still had the dimly lit vibe going on, and my kids were tripping out! We checked in a little after 11:00 am. The guy asked if I was the one that had called earlier, and asked what type of table we wanted. I told him we didn't need a premium table, and were probably going to be there for a few hours, so he set us up on Table 12, which was near the coin operated tables on the left side of the hall. There were a bunch of people playing on the premium tables, which my kids watched, awe-struck, at the smooth manner in which these players ran the tables. The rate for daytime play is $3.00 per player per hour. The kids started off slowly, and I bowed out of game play after the first hour to sit and take photos, but we stayed a total of 2 hours. We really enjoyed ourselves. There is a bar, so I was a little concerned with taking teenagers in, but because it was early in the day, there was absolutely no problem with other patrons. The bartender provided poor service which was surprising as we have had pleasant experiences at the venue before. After going to the bar several times the bartender was ill-mannered and upon closing our tab we were overcharged. There were multiple opportunities to change her demeanor but that was not the case tonight. It depends on what you are looking for....I appreciated the clean bathrooms but not the gals looking to use the stalls for a vape break. The line was too long and too slow. The place was clean and served a 20-30s crowd. We went for a comedy event and the room was arranged perfectly to enjoy listening and interacting with the comedians. Whoever answers the phone for this place was really rude and obnoxious. I called to see if there was an age restriction at a certain time and all I got was an Uhmm and then was hung up on. I called back a second time and the same person answered and there was someone else speaking in the background saying why do they keep calling this number. This number is on your website so yeh I'm going to call it and all I wanted to ask was if there was an age restriction at certain times. Fun place for shows and chill game nights. They have tons of game options and many boards/tables for each game. We found the games to be reasonably priced; $1 per person per game for darts. We came on a night when they had a show/DJ, which made the night a bit less enjoyable due to the vomit-covered bathrooms and the long bar lines, but luckily that crowd mostly stayed within the specific show room. read more

I don't usually post about a bar but I felt compelled to do so after this weekends pride events. Bartender, now GM (congrats on your promotion) Thai(sp check) absolutely stunning personality and individual! Really knows how to engage with people. Deserving of every ounce of beauty heading his way! Now to my negative response, we had a wonderful pride event. Music, people, entertainment, all of the above, killer. However, buddy (ginger boy) didn't like that the headliner was getting so much traction towards the end of the evening. Literally 15 minute to the end of the evening, he decides to shut down all the electrics on stage. Absolutely embarrassing! I mean could this guy decide he needed a big pee pee tonight?!!!! It was just ridiculous!!!! He almost could've been homophobic because he was done with the evening. Truly unfortunate. They brought a lesbian icon and they turned her off because buddy was over the night???? He didn't care which is just interesting. I have always had an amazing experience here. However tonight, was a completely different story. My group came back in from smoking and there was another party at our pool table. The bartenders didn't care. I paid my full tab and was escorted out. That was completely unnecessary. I didn't cause a scene or lose my cool. I was upset that there was another party at my table, but it wasn't important to the staff. I hate not tipping but when the employees don't care, neither do I. Definitely will not revisit on a Saturday night. read more

1 star because of the bartenders . 1st they charged me someone else's tab. They voided it and gave me my bill BUT did not provide the receipt of what I am paying for . As I asked one bartender ( I'm gonna assume it's the rude one that all these reviews are complaining about ) and let me tell you, they are not making that shit up. Went to Hawaiian Brians for a comedy show for Father's day for Tumua Tuinei. I would give this 5 stars because the show was AMAZING! His beginning act was soooo funny and he, himself, was hilarious! I'm honestly sooooo glad we spent our father's day there. Because it was really an amazing show that Tumua did! First time at a comedy show and let me tell you, I'm beyond impressed with how funny this guy is and how much I laughed! It was truly a great show. But my review isn't about the show, this one's for Hawaiian Brains. We ordered food before the show started, some beers and a wine. We got the beers, took a little while and I totally get it. There was a full room. But my wine never came, I had to ask where my wine was. And the lady who was serving us told me they ran out and she apologized because she forgot who ordered it. I was so frustrated and confused, how do you forget who ordered wine when you write it on your notepad with everything else we ordered PLUS our table number. At that point I was sooo nervous they would overcharge or lose my card because they took it to put a tab on it. Instead I ordered a margarita since they had no wine. I really can't complain about the margarita, it was STRONG. I mean you could smell the alcohol the moment it was on the table. Rather have a strong margarita than a watered down one so that was actually really good. As for our food... the show was about an hour and a half, maybe 2 hrs, we ordered at the beginning of the show. Before it started. We got our food at the VERY END of the show. I mean the END, END. Where the show is done, the lights turn up brighter and everyones just getting up and leaving. Then, THATS WHEN we received our food. Which was the appetizers. We didn't order ANY entrees. Only appetizers. And THATS when it came. I was sooooo upset. We got french fries, garlic edamame, spicy tuna roll and a California roll. The fries wasn't salted and the garlic edamame was in a foam plate and wrapped with saran wrap, BUT tell me why there was some kind of garlic spills in the plastic bag. Smelled like it was from the edamame but all the plates were clean. It was sooooo disgusting. Was my plastic bag that the food came in, used or something?!?!!! It was soooo horrible! Nice pool tables, reasonable price, with one not-so-friendly staff.. I came here as a child, back when they allowed smoking. (Shows my age) lol. But, i always remember it being crowded and busy. But, the bartender Danielle, says, "THERE IS NO 14!!!" I waited patiently right on the left side of the bar, where she jus says it as if we were stupid! I am trying to understand why she had to mention it like that. We were very patient with her as she was taking other customers orders. I guess I am just a number, but we are also human that make mistakes. She could have said it a lot more politely. And i get it, she's busy, she's a bartender, but very unacceptable if you ask me! I hadn't been to Hawaiian Brian's in years. After reading the reviews I wasn't sure how the night would go. But I won tickets to an EP release so I wasn't going to miss out. It was held in the Crossroads area. I have to say my entire group had a great time. The staff, including security was friendly. Bar service was quick, and the gals working let us know right away that they did not have fruit or blended drinks available. There was a full liquor/mixer selection. Beers and hard seltzers. I was happy to see an ipa so that's what i mostly drank. I also tried the cocktail special- Pickled Mango Mai Tai! Tasty! My friend was drinking the hard seltzers which had a variety of flavors. One trip up she didn't like the flavor (had just asked for a seltzer, not a specific one. She went back to the bar and they exchanged it! Definitely get high service marks for that move. The bathroom was clean and in good condition. Plenty of mirrors, flat spaces to sit stuff down, and even coat/bag hangers. I Loved. Loved. Loved that they had a shelf build from wall to wall across the top of the toilet! Definitely more clubs could use this! I'm looking at you Republik! The event supplied a food table at the beginning so we never ventured to see what else was available. Lots of parking for cheap with validation. $2 for 4 hours! Been here a couple times for shows and there are usually two bars in the venue area. The one in the back has pretty cool bartenders, it has been a guy and a girl and they rock it out. But man, the bar in the front has the rudest girls working, I was appalled. They were just rude for no reason, one was a shorter blonde girl and the really rude one was a shorter hispanic looking girl with dark hair, and she was slightly cross eyed. she was working on Wednesday night 8/14/2024 at 7pm for the Devil Wears Prada concert. Things have really improved here. It's clean, staff is helpful, great events are being held, especially comedy. The main drawback is cleanliness of the bathrooms. Loving this new Hawaiian Brian's and the fact that their air-conditioning works with huge amounts of people inside their establishment when they have concerts and shit is the best. I used to come here in High school when it was all pool tables. I like the new set up of little rooms that cater to different people's music interests, the cafe for food, multiple bars, and plenty of open space. The drinks are reasonably priced as well as the prices for pool. The staff seem nice too although I've seen them kick out a lot of drunk people. LOL I'm actually thinking about renting out this place for my birthday party. You do have to pay for parking if you don't find street parking if you get your ticket validated its $3 for 3 hours anything after that I think is like $1 per hour? Don't quote me on that I suggest you ask about that. The parking structure of this building is terrible whoever was the architect for this place could have done a better job. All the reviews are true the staff is horribly rude. The bartender overcharged us for the pool table and ran our card without first telling us the price. When we pointed it out she said there was nothing she could do about it. I asked to speak to a manager and she said she was the manager. Another employee behind the bar was listening in and threatened to kick us out if we didn't pay and implied we were trying to scam our way out of paying, even though they're the scammers for overcharging. This was only one of the many rude experiences I have had with the brunette bartender. Absolutely awful person; she should really be fired. I have never felt the need to use yelp for a review. No business has ever been THAT bad until I came here this past weekend. I used to love this place and i was surprised at how rude and nasty the bartenders and supposedly "managers" were. From the minute my sisters and I walked in, we were given sassy attitude when all we gave was smiles. We were more patient than the workers, giving benefit of the doubt at first. One example out of many would be me asking very politely what to do with the pool balls as we finished our game and bartenders responded with "if you wanna buy them yeah leave it over it"and she proceeded to walk away. A simple "please return them here" would have sufficed but it seems being rude is the go to. They made me a terrible drink, rolled their eyes throughout the night, denied their rude attitude when we finally said something after the 3rd unprofessional incident. + After we complained to the manager on their poor customer service they had security escort us out. They then ended the night overcharging my card as well and I am now working with my bank to get my money back. Bartender was EXTREMELY RUDE. Told me she doesnt like repeating herself. I understand completely as I do not myself! However youre in a job position that requires you to give customer service to people that are drinking. If you are not patient, youre definitely in the wrong job. If I could give Hawaiian Brians zero stars I would. On 1/11 I paid cash for my tab. In order to open a tab you must give them a debit/credit card. When I gave my card to the bartender I told her I wanted to pay cash. Upon paying my tab, the bartender swiped my card. She told me sorry, and that she had already swiped my card. I said it was fine and proceeded to give her cash. The next day, 1/12 I noticed I had a charge for $100 from Hawaiian Brians, along with another over draft fee. My tab was only $52.91. When I went back that night the bartender wouldn't take the time to even look at my receipt or help me out. She said that I had to email them. When I asked to speak to a manager she told me she was the manager and the bartender but she couldn't help me. What is going on here??? SO SHADY. She was very rude and unapologetic. A dingy atmosphere and unkempt furnishings made it difficult to enjoy the amenities at Hawaiian Brian's. A couple of months ago, I stopped by Hawaiian Brian's to support the One Kin concert held in one of the first rooms on the left-hand side of the entrance. The performance was exquisitely enjoyable, and I enjoyed their wondrous concert with a simplistic rum in coke in a glass. I left the building without seeing much of the facility, and I was excited to return. Fast-forward to today, and I revisited Hawaiian Brian's for the Beat Root Grand Championship. Arriving early, I decided to enjoy a round of Johnnie Walker with my guests, and I was disappointed that it came in a flimsy plastic cup. This was not like the earlier experience that I enjoyed. Taken aback because of my previous experience, I decided to not let it affect the night. After finding a table to play a few rounds of pool, I was aghast to the dismal raggedness of the area. Frayed and tattered pool tables along with ragged, worn-out seats made it difficult to enjoy the overall ambiance. At such a price point, I expected much more pride in the upkeep of the facility. When thinking of a place to play billiards, I would suggest elsewhere due to the high prices that are not constituted by exceptional quality. read more

Hawaiian Brian's now known as HB social is totally different from when I used to go here back in the day but knowing I haven't been here in a hand full of years I figured what doesn't have its changes through time like that. So first things first, parking and everything outside is pretty much the same. The big changes that caught my eye when going inside is I didn't see not one pool table nor dart board so I was taken off guard there. The entrance to going in is the same but to me has a more nightclub kind of feel where you have someone is checking you in but it's literally just a slightly big size room filled with tables and chairs plus a stage for the artists. Then you got a separate room with a bar then in the far back with another separate entrance is their bathroom. Overall the experience was okay. Service was more on the bad side. We ordered cocktails & food and our drinks took about 20 mins each and our food about 45mins to an hour. We got their garlic edamame, spicy ahi roll and salmon dynamite but by the time we got our food there was about 10 mins to last call I wanted to cancel the order but ended up just taking it home to eat. All in all it was an okay experience but truthfully if it wasn't for the artist singing that night I don't think myself or my party would come back. Highly recommend just going to the bar in the room next to it and placing an order yourself. Not to sure what you can do about the food orders but if you plan on having more then a few drinks I'd consider doing just that. read more
