Nothing special about this place. This establishment was about the same size as LL's and other Hawaiian bbq spots. No fancy decor or anything. Except for a nice mural along the wall. That's just about it. Let's just say that if you want a quick dose of Hawaiian food, this is the perfect place to get that. I originally ordered a Kalua pork and Lau Lau plate but they said they were sold out. Mind you, it was around 11:30am when we arrived and it was nothing close to busy. There were plenty of tables available and 2 other customers eating lunch. Anyway, I can't get over the fact that they were out of Lau Lau and Kalua pork. So for them to be sold out at 11:30am was mind boggling. I also noticed that they were sold out of smoothies too. I ended up ordering a chicken katsu plate and substituted white rice for brown rice. My bf ordered a bbq beef plate. $16.99 for just a bbq beef plate was a bit steep compared to other Hawaiian joints. I paid $13.99 for the katsu plate. Overall total for 2 plates and 2 fountain drinks cost me $38. Wowsers. They weren't even combo plates. I spent way less at other places. Overall, the food was ok. The katsu tasted bland but the Mac salad was tasty. On a positive note, the portion of the katsu plate was huge. The beef plate was definitely not worth $16.99. I just placed a to-go order for a family meal, and unfortunately the customer service was extremely disappointing. The employee working the front counter was rude, impatient, and appeared annoyed throughout the interaction. While placing my order, I was still deciding between a few options, and instead of being helpful or welcoming, she seemed visibly frustrated and inconvenienced by my questions. Her attitude made me feel like my business was not appreciated. My family and I have frequented this restaurant many times, but after this experience, this will likely be our last visit. Good food can only go so far when customers are treated poorly. A very underrated chain because what do you mean this whole plate is $16?? The flavor packed in this dish is insane, the amount of food you get is crazy, the mac is SO GOOD! When traveling my go-to food is Hawaiian BBQ since I can get a quality protein and some steamed veggies. I really enjoyed their Teri- Chicken, very flavorful, juicy and delicious. The BBQ Mix- the BBQ Chicken was very good and so was the BBQ beef. In addition I loved the mixed of steamed veggies it came with. On a side note, although I was going lower carb for my meal tonight, I tried the ride and the max salad so I could compare to other Hawaiin Bbq places I like. The ride seemed old, some of it was hard and it was luke warm at best. The Mac salad was my least favorite item on my plate. Really good, considering the price and the ridiculous amount of food you get. Not the "best", but you gotta keep perspective. This is a casual dining spot, not a fancy restaurant! The young gentleman working the register was helpful and friendly. He made some menu suggestions based on what we wanted. Our order took about 10 minutes to assemble on a weekday morning. We got the family meal ($47.99), but subbed rice for extra veggies. There's no charge for this and it's an easy way to make Hawaiian food, uh, a little less unhealthy. They did a great job on the veggies - simple broccoli and cabbage, lightly steamed, fresh and crisp, well cleaned and not overly salted/oily. Mac salad was also a winner. Very simple flavor profile, right in the middle, making it pair well with everything. Not too sweet, not too salty, just tender macaroni that wasn't mushy. Kalua pork was mildly seasoned and cooked until tender. It doesn't seem as greasy as other cuts of pork, so felt a bit "dry". DH's tip is to pair it with the mac salad. Garlic shrimp (add extra $3) was a favorite. It definitely had the most flavor, since it used fresh garlic and onions. The shrimp were a good size, not "crisp", but acceptable for a casual dining spot. Wish it had more "wok hei", or pan-fried flavor. Kalbi short ribs (add extra $3) were pretty good. Lol, of course we've had better at Korean restaurants, but that was like twice the price! DH said it could've used more char. The family meal included 3 choices. We also got a separate BBQ chicken plate ($13.99), also subbing rice for veggie. I really liked the chicken, especially with a little drizzle of teriyaki sauce. It was flattened and they got pretty good browning on the pieces. The plate also came with a scoop of mac salad. Lumpia 6 pieces ($6.99) was a special request from little one, who saw it featured in a cartoon with a Filipino family. Honestly surprised by this one...seems fairly authentic with the smaller rolls and even came with the sweet and sour sauce! Doesn't have quite the depth of flavor as homemade ones, but it's close. Tip: for take-out, you need to package your own sauce!! There are two pump dispensers next to the soda machine - one for teriyaki, one for katsu sauce. They have small plastic containers with lids. Be sure the lid is securely fastened! Overall, a great place for take out or casual dining, especially if you're hungry and on a budget. Scratches that Hawaiian food craving! read more

Our golf group stopped in after golf to grab a quick lunch. One of our group members said they have a good Kalbe plate. So we all got the Korean kalbe plate with a Diet Coke. Hawaiian Grill Express via Door dash to my hotel was quick and good. I ordered the chicken katsu and barbecue mixed grill and both were very good. They prepared my order very quickly and Door Dash delivered to my room within twenty minutes of ordering. The serving size was quite substantial. Each come with the meat served on top of cabbage, with a side of macaroni salad and white rice. The chicken katsu should be delivered witn some condiment, but one will appreciate the crispness of the katsu. A sauce would be the perfect compliment to that crispy textured chicken. That would put the katsu over the top and allow this to compete with most katsu you will have. The barbecue mixed grill cones with the chicken, pork, and beef short ribs cut Korean style. Here the sweet and tangy barbecue sauce lifts the flavor dramatically; though, the flavor, quality and tenderness of the meat offerings seem to stand on their own. With each dish coming in under twenty bucks, this was a very good value and the taste would appeal to most anyone's palate. The speed of the preparation and delivery were exemplary for an early Saturday evening. Moreover, they do not skimp on the meat. Each dish or platter is enough for the hungriest of appetites. Two people could share one platter actually and the overall experience is very satisfying and satiating. Four stars! read more

Excellent Hawaiian plate lunch place with good-sized portions and easy takeout service. We catered a work lunch and tried a variety of their lunch options. The kalbi ribs which were meaty and well marinated, and sat on top of boiled cabbage and steamed broccoli, and served with rice and pretty authentic macaroni salad. The lau lau included succulent chucks of fatty and lean pork and was steamed well. The chicken katsu was crispy and tender, although the Kailua port was a bit salty and dry. We enjoyed the spam musubi which has a tasty teriyaki glaze and generous portion of rice. The potstickers were also well cooked and has a mixed meat-vegetable filling. The loco moco included well-done beef patties and nicely cooked over easy eggs and a rich brown gravy. We stopped trusting the consistency when our Orange County location started to have heavy onions, less meat. I think that one may have closed... Anyway, this place is nothing like that! We usually order the Mixed BBQ that comes with shortribs, beef and chicken. It comes with double scoop rice, one scoop macaroni salad but we switch to get 2 scoops of the macaroni. Yum yum yum. Help yourself to teriyaki sauce. When we got it last Friday, we both received heavy on the chicken and a little less beef and shortribs than usual. It was still good but my husband's favorite is shortribs and mine is beef. If you have a particular meat fondness, probably just get that instead of the mixed plate. They gave ample amount of chicken and veggies. The Mac salad was delicious and not too much Mayo in them. The rice was dry, which I enjoyed. The chicken flavor has the bbq taste behind it and was simple. My only gripe was that I couldn't get any teriyaki sauce with my meal, so it was rather dry. For 2 people, it was a little over $30 for their combo plates which consisted of 2 scoops of rice, macaroni, and the meat with a bedding of veggies on the bottom. The container was full! The rice was made well as well as the macaroni. The meat was soft and moist, I just hoped it was a little more flavor but it was good nonetheless; possibly just needed more salt, honestly.
