With this really being the only Mongolian BBQ in the area this is where we come for some noodles. Have been here a handful of times and it is usually not packet. There are always two employees - lady who seems to run the place and is the cashier/greeter. She is always friendly. The cook - who takes your bowls and cooks everything. I have mixed feelings as last time he was pretty rude grabbing the bowls from me and then tossing my food that was in a to - go container on the counter - no idea what the issue was. General idea - you walk in and put what you want and how much you want in your bowl. The options range from proteins, noodles, an assortment of vegetables and then sauces. The place seems a little run down, majority of the soda options are "out of order" and the wonton crips/rice have looked very questionable. I've been here 3 times and realized I never left a review. So here it goes: This might be the closest Mongolian Bbq near me, so it's our only option when we want it. We have gone in the afternoon every time. There is only 2 people working, but it's not crazy busy and it's mostly self serve. First thing you check in at the front, you can get one bigger bowl or two smaller ones. We opt for 2 smaller ones. They have 4 different meats. Plenty of noodles and veggies to choose from as well lots of sauces for flavors. Once you put your food on the line to be cooked, you go and find a table to sit at. They have canned soda or fountain soda, but most of the time half of the fountain sodas are out of syrup. So I always get water. They have self serve rice and wonton chips. I stopped getting the rice, because the first time I had it looked and smelled a little off. The wonton chips are also hit and miss sometimes they've been sitting there all day and are stale. Yesterday they were perfect. They also have a soft serve ice cream, which is so good, but it's on the runny side and melted all over my hand as I was filling it. They don't often use the AC, because it's always very warm that I just sweat when I'm there. My hubby and I love Mongolian bbq, but we haven't been to this 1 in years-not AYCE, no soup and no egg rolls but wonton crisps and ice cream machine! What happened? This place was good when I went to it a while ago. The selection of food to choose from was fantastic and of course its fun watch the cooks make the food on the awesome grill. What is also nice is the free noodles you can get no matter how long you are there for. You can load up on those while you watch your food cook and enjoy the show at the same time. The service overall was good too as they did do a good job making sure to clean our plates when we were done. The level of your experience makes a world of a difference on which day of the week you choose to come to Gobi. My Nana and I dine here on an almost weekly basis. But we refuse to come any other days except Mondays and Fridays. More Fridays than Mondays. The chef working those days is our favorite. He cooks the food to perfection and handles it with so much care. He knows how to flawlessly cook your carefully constructed bowl of noodles, meats, veggies and sauces. He also adds just the right amount of water as to not take away from the flavors of the sauces you selected to season your bowl. The other chef literally uses almost 2 pitchers of water to cook the noodles, which waters down the flavor of your food. And often has an attitude. The chef working on Monday and Friday is perfection. The staff on Fridays is wonderful. Mondays... ehhh! The chef is perfection but the cashier is extremely rude and lazy on Mondays. He doesn't greet customers. He's always standing around doing nothing but staring at his phone. And when his head is not down looking at his phone, he just watches everyone like a hawk as they fill their bowls like everyone is doing something wrong. It's so uncomfortable... (I read a previous review stating the same experience. It was probably this guy.) Also last Monday I came, he turns off the open sign and starts denying people 20 minutes prior to closing. And rudely dimmed the lights while there were still 4 tables of diners. Last time I came on a Monday, the proteins, noodles, veggies and sauces were almost empty. All compartments were filled at about 20%. So I requested that he refill the beef, noodles and some veggies. He literally gave me a sigh, a dirty look and walked away without saying a word. He just refilled the beef. So I asked him to refill the noodles and veggies again. Once again, an attitude! Also, he does not clean the tables well... Fridays are my favorite time to come here because the staff is amazing. The food is fresher on these days. The chef is perfect. And Isaac is friendly, kind and a hard worker. He greets every customer that comes in with a warm welcome and a smile. He also makes sure that all the bins are filled with plenty of proteins, vegetables, noodles and sauces. This place has been my go-to for Mongolian BBQ for years, and it's still the best option around. They made some changes over time, like removing the all-you-can-eat option and increasing their prices, but let's be real...where haven't they? I was craving Mongolian BBQ, and this was the closest one we could find! It definitely hit the spot. The pricing is not bad. For $15/person, my boyfriend and I were super full. I was hoping to have some leftovers but, we managed to finish everything. I think for a couple dollars more, the two bowl is definitely worth it (something like $12 vs $15). I do get anxiety filling those bowls up though - I want to get my money's worth but I also don't want all the food to topple over haha. Mongolian BBQ is always a challenging game of jenga for me - but I like to think it's part of the experience. They also had a small buffet bar on the side where you can get a couple of other food items like wonton chips. I haven't been to Gobi in years, back when it was truly a buffet. Nowadays you pay per bowl, where 2 bowls is the most bang for your buck if you're hungry. You fill up your bowls with meat, noodles, veggies, and sauces, then a guy cooks it in the big round flat top. There's white rice and some chips as appetizers, I believe those are all you can eat. I thought the food was ok, maybe next time I need to add more sauce. You definitely get a lot for 2 plates, but the place gets messy and isn't this most hygienic. Service is pretty much serve yourself with occasional help from the workers, but they don't really interact with you. Decided to go here with my sister for dinner after shopping by the Livermore outlet. We were trying to reach the happy hour and its ends at 4pm. We got there exactly at 4pm on the dot and the host wouldn't let us order from the happy hour. That's ok I understand that. We started to fill our bowls up and We wanted more garlic, but their garlic was running out so we asked to have garlic be refilled. The host said "more??". He just said it with an attitude. Overall the service here just felt hostile, like as if they didn't want us to be there. The place itself was very spacious. When we got there it was just my sister and I in the whole restaurant. It was clean and have no issue. The food itself was good but not great. You could really put a lot of ingredients if you are able to stack a lot in your bowl. What's good about this place is they have free rice and free chips! I was gonna give this place a 2 out of stars but the owner of the place was really nice and I do not want to give this once a 2 stars just because his employee made us feel unwelcome. So, I'm going to just get the complaint part of this review over and done with... they discontinued "all you can eat" and I think that was a bad decision. Half the fun of Mongolian is knowing you can totally gorge yourself... I don't usually go back for a second round, but I want the option. And my teens piled them high! There was still all the meat options (beef/pork/chicken) and the sausage and imitation crab that I didn't remember. Lots of veggie options including fresh baby spinach (yum!). Fountain drink is $2 and the soft serve ice cream was $0.50. But you also got rice and fried wontons. A group of co workers and I came one afternoon after a meeting. I ordered the single bowl. You go down the line and pick your meets, noodles, veggies, etc. When you get to the end, you wait for the cook to prepare your bowl (you can get the takeout container as well). Not going to lie its not the cleanest once you get by that buffet section selecting your food. As someone who has anxiety, it heightens because there was a line waiting on me behind while i decided what i wanted for my first time. I rushed and didn't get what i wanted with my two bowls but i paid extra for a second trip and my my my was it worth it. You have to dine in with the second trip but it's okay. He kept walking over checking on our bowl like my boyfriend was doing something wrong (but what though...I mean there's no wrong way to fill a bowl?). We went to pay and the cashier didn't say a word. We asked for a receipt, and he gave us the middle finger. Yet another great find near our home and in our town. With a layout such as a Mongolian grill, the whole family gets exactly what they want. Major points at Gobi for excellent vegetarian and even vegan options. They have both regular and fried tofu. The veggie selection is great. I never knew that I loved cabbage in my Mongolian grill meals until here. There are water chestnuts, bean sprouts, and fresh-cut jalapenos. Mmmm. They let you take two bowls to the grill, too. Apparently, they found too much waste with people overflowing just one! Being a vegetarian and not wanting a huge plate of one mix, I tend to still stick with one bowl per grill trip, though. Gobi has noodles on the bar, too. If you prefer rice then they have a huge rice cooker after the grill where you can get rice. It has been a while since I have been to any other Mongolian grill restaurants, but I don't recall them having a chicken soup (I didn't try it due to being vegetarian) and they have a soft-serve ice cream machine. When I was a teenager, my friends and I frequented many AYCE restaurants as a weekend activity. There was one in particular, Genghis Khan in Concord, that was the scene of many episodes of epic gluttony. We had quite a few eating contests there that many would consider grotesque. Urban legend has it that they went out of business because of us! It must have been at least 20 years since I last had Mongolian BBQ. On New Year's Day, my best friend organized a group lunch at Gobi Mongolian Grill. It was a bit of a surprise to me given there were other options in the area. When asked why Gobi, he said he wants to introduce his kids to it, and to relive our younger days of course. This restaurant is located in a large shopping center at the corner of Hopyard and Stoneridge. Our group of 10 adults and kids arrived at around 11:45 am. We were told to sit wherever we want. The interior was spacious and clean. There were large TVs mounted on the walls showing holiday football. The staff informed us the meal ($13.98 per adult, holiday rate, pay at the end of the meal) includes chicken soup, fried wonton chips, and soft serve ice cream. Drinks cost extra. Prior to eating, I did some quick recon, which produced the following sitrep: [Protein Options]: Beef, chicken, lamb, pork, tofu, bay shrimp, cut up turkey sausage, and imitation crab meat. [Vegetables and Aromatics]: Close to two dozen options. [Carbs]: Noodles and white rice [Sauces]: Ten different spicy and non-spicy types. Sauce recipes on the wall. I ended up making three trips to the buffet line, each time using two bowls (which was recommended by the staff). I thought the meats were just okay. They were all sliced thin and came straight out of the freezer. The vegetables were fresh. The sauces were all watered down (except for the chili paste) so that customers don't overseason the food. The lone chef cleaned the huge round grill constantly so that non-spicy eaters and vegetarians could enjoy their food without worries. The staff was polite. One of them cleared our table of the used plates regularly. All in all, it wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. I thought the food was OK (better than most Mongolian BBQ restaurants I've been to) but the service was good. As such, I'm giving this place 3.5 stars, rounding up to 4.
