Best place in Hanalei to rent a paddle board or a surfboard. We checked several other spots first, and everywhere else either had much higher prices or a bunch of restrictions and hidden fees (like charging $100 just to put a board on your car roof). None of that here. They have very reasonable prices, good-quality boards, and the staff helps you choose the right size board and paddle. We paid only $30 per person for a half-day SUP rental and $25 for a full day surfboard rental, which is a great deal for this area. One thing I'd recommend though - double-check that the staff actually secures the rope when they strap the boards to your car. The employee didn't want our help, but a few minutes into the drive the boards started coming loose. Luckily, we had a Jeep Wrangler with an open roof, so we were able to hold them. Turned out the ropes weren't even properly tied, just kinda thrown on. Hopefully this was just a one-off, especially since they do keep your card on file in case anything happens to the boards. Overall though best prices and conditions in town. Definately recommend! read more

We actually walked around quite a bit before ending up here. Checked a few spots, compared prices, talked to people -- the usual process. And honestly, I'm really glad we landed on this place. They offered us the best deal we found: $30 per paddleboard, no pressure, no weird upselling. Everything was explained clearly, calmly, and with patience. The boards were in good condition, nothing sketchy. They helped us load everything onto the car and made sure it was secured properly, which sounds small, but after a long day -- that matters. The whole experience felt easy. No rush, no attitude, no "tourist trap" vibe. Just people who know what they're doing and treat you with respect. After that, we had an amazing time out on the river. Peaceful water, beautiful views -- exactly what we came for. Four hours flew by without even noticing. If I'm back on the island, I won't even think twice. For pre-Fathers Day wanted to do something I'd never done so we rented paddle boards. Excellent price $30 for half day. They got us set up super fast, a couple quick tips, and off we headed to the river to begin. We spent 3hrs circumnavigating the bay, around the pier, through some boats then back up the river where we were greeted by a green sea turtle. I've surfed a couple times so I'm still a beginner. Jack was an awesome instructor! Half way through the private lesson,he could tell I needed more of a challenge so he got me on a smaller board. Fantastic shop with very friendly staff. My 13 y/o and I decided on semi private lesson and had a great experience as beginners. Nate was a phenomenal instructor. Very encouraging. We ended up renting boards from the shop the following day on our own and they showed us how to strap them to the car. We picked a lesson time based on our schedule, but I'd suggest calling and asking when the best waves are to ensure you get the most out of your experience. read more

Great service.! I have 2 kids that have never been on a surf board. We met Jack who greeted us with a big Aloha smile and took the boys for their 90 min lesson. They were both up a riding waves to shore shortly after hitting the water . Rented boards the following day for 1/2 day and they were able to catch waves on their own and ride them !! Excellent instructor! Patient, clear, encouraging and happy ! I went with this service because they offered 90 min classes rather than 60 mins and with 2 kids was a fair deal. We returned to rent boards the following day as they provide discounts to their previous students and were then best deal. And we like them ! read more

Our family had an absolutely amazing time learning to surf at Hanalei Bay. Nick was incredibly patient with us, and Pickle captured fantastic photos of all the fun. While the waves aren't the biggest, it's the perfect place to learn. The entire family was up and riding waves right away after Nicks training, and he taught us how to read the incoming sets so we knew which waves to choose and when to start paddling. The bay itself is quite shallow, making it ideal for surfers of all ages. read more

We booked a last minute lesson for 2 a couple hours (tops) before the lesson started. We showed up early for check-in as they request, and so glad we did! The office manager was so friendly and helped us sign the waivers, try on and select correct sized rash-guards (e.g. woman in group elected for men's small for the longer torso), and get oriented for where to meet our instructor on the beach. Our instructor Pono was super friendly, relaxed in a professional way (kind instruction, no negativity!), and absolutely great at conveying key points for how to surf in clear ways. My partner and I felt like we picked it up immediately because of his close attention to our individual habits that needed correcting! He took care of the wave selection and timing so that all we had to do was ride the wave, and it was a perfect beginner's lesson, so fun!! He even stayed out a little longer with us so we could try and catch that perfect wave back to shore. Hanalei Bay is also such a safe place to learn with all sand bottom, shallow enough to walk out in places when you get tired of paddling. Super easy to book and communicate with, and my beginner 8- and 10-year-olds loved their coach, Tapu. In stunning Hanalei Bay--ringed by lush, misty mountains--they were riding waves within minutes (4th and 1st waves!). Though initially disappointed not to have Tapu for their second lesson, they had just as much fun with Mitchell. Surfing with Hendrix was the highlight of our Kauai trip! We booked surfing lessons for our group of four adults that were all beginners. Hendrix taught us the basics on the sand and then sent us into the water. He was super friendly and patient with us and you could tell he genuinely wanted us to successfully ride some good waves! We were riding waves non-stop the minute we got into the water - he would send us off one by one and then sometimes when the wave was too good to miss, he'd send two of us off together. Overall such a great experience and so worth it that we really contemplated whether we'd have time for another lesson with Hendrix before we left the island. There's multiple lessons happening at the same time by this company in the water at the same area, and all the instructors are so funny and friendly! read more

Highly recommend for those who aren't sure about surfing and want to try it. Jack was my instructor and he was the real deal on helping me catch my very first wave. As a deaf person, I was worried if there would be a clash in communication, but he was so patient and so awesomely understanding.
