Speeds from 5-10PM every night like clockwork. Speedtest ran over cat6a, wired into a 10gig port. Completely ISP's fault.

TL;DR: HawaiianTel's gigabit service slowed to nearly unusable speeds every evening, and multiple technicians/support reps failed to fix it, even after blaming my own networking equipment and making me use their Eero router. I eventually switched back to Spectrum and returned HawaiianTel's equipment, but they later threatened collections for equipment I had already returned. Support said the bill was completely resolved, only for HawaiianTel to send another collections notice a month later for $11.97. They then closed my online account so I couldn't pay it online, and told me my only option was to pay by phone--with a mandatory $5 processing fee. On top of all that, they continued calling me weekly trying to sell me faster service when they couldn't reliably provide the plan I already had. Explanation: I'd give 0 stars if I could. We had HawaiianTel a few years ago, but they started jacking up our prices so we switched over to Spectrum. We recently moved and decided to give HawaiianTel another shot. We signed up for the 1gig/600mbps plan with them, and had nothing but issues especially at 5PM to 10PM at night, where our speeds would become unbearably slow over ethernet and Wifi, despite uploads remaining unchanged. Multiple times we were told it was due to us not using the Eero router that was included with our install, despite our household using prosumer level networking gear. We decided to humor them, and started using the included router, to no avail. A technician was sent out multiple times, but was not able to determine the cause, because as far as they were aware, our service was functioning normally... Because they came during the day, when there were no speed issues. If that was the end of it, I wouldn't be writing this review. A few months later of unbearably slow service, we decided to cancel our service and immediately switch to Spectrum, which while more expensive didn't throttle our gigabit link to 1mbps at night. After being on the phone with a representative, we cancelled our service and were instructed to return the stupid eero router, which we gladly did at the Kapolei retail store. The staff, who were extremely nice were unable to supply a receipt or proof of return. A few weeks later, I received a threatening letter from HawaiianTel saying my bill of several hundred dollars would be sent to collections DESPITE ME HAVING RETURNED THE EQUIPMENT. All the while, I'm getting calls every Friday at 6PM on the dot from HawaiianTel reps trying to get my business back by offering their 3 gig plan, when they couldn't even deliver on the 1 gig. One lengthy call with support (that had been completely outsourced overseas btw), I had cleared up the bill with a support representative and confirmed verbally, with video proof that the entire bill's $ amount had been taken care of and that would be the end of it. That wasn't the end of it. A month later, I receive yet ANOTHER letter from HawaiianTel threatening to send my account to collections for $11.97, despite the previous support representative saying the entire bill had been sorted and that was the last I'd hear from HawaiianTel. I was pretty frustrated, when I got this, but hey. It's $12. I can afford $12 if it means I never have to deal with this company ever again. I went onto their website and put in my credentials to pay the bill and.... They closed my account. I have a bill threatening collections, and they closed the easiest means of paying it. Make that make sense. The second option was to call into HawaiianTel customer support, yet again and talk with one of the customer reps from overseas, who said that the entire bill had not been settled contrary to what the other representative had claimed. I was then informed that If I would like to settle the bill I'd have to use the website. I explained that the website wouldn't let me login, because it was saying my account had been closed. I was then told my only other option was to pay over the phone WHICH HAD A $5 PROCESSING FEE. I know, it's not a lot, but the gesture of being forced into paying over the phone only to get hid by a mandatory $5 Processing Fee is a pretty direct f*ck you to any customer.

Update on Hawaiian Telcom located 1177 Bishop St. Today I needed to return a modem to Hawaiian Telcom if not it's a $200 fee . So of course decided to return it instead of getting charged . Service was friendly although I was the only customer lol . Support local

Is there a specific number we can call on the weekends to get help with our service? I've called several numbers and have been on hold a totall of 5 hours with no representative answering the phone in the last two days. Disappointed

I wanted to ask if anyone has tried Hawaiian Telcom's 1 GB Sevice? Did it work as advertised? And were you satisfied with the service?

It depends where you are for their fiber 1gb service. I'd say in general you can expect reliable speeds as long you're not too far out of town. Be aware that if you're relying on wifi it's a waste of money though. That speed will only happen if…

    What packages do you offer?

Am I required to sign up for a 3-year contract? I'd rather have a month to month service so I can cancel without paying a penalty.

It was frustrating and a headache! It was highly recommended to make a reservation with the location that you plan to visit. The earliest appointment was for the next day Thursday March 26, 2026 at 5:45pm. I took the 7:00pm appointment and they close at 8:00pm. We walked in and the place was full of people. On the screen showed 32 people on the walk in wait list!! I checked in at 6:45pm for the 7:00pm which is the 15 minutes recommended on the iPad? 6:50pm, we were helped by SAGE a very friendly sales associate? He asked for an I.D and started the process of getting what we needed the replacements of the 2 cable boxes. SAGE talked and worked fast at the same time which made it go by so fast. It was a very nice and comfortable first experience. By 7:10pm and only in 20 minutes we were walking out the door with what we came for. We went home and set it up and it's all good again. Can watch tv again. Lol.

One of the worst customer service experiences I've had in a very long time. The amount of time I…read morehad to sit around waiting was absolutely ridiculous. I understand that businesses get busy and that unexpected issues happen, but there is absolutely no excuse for leaving customers waiting this long with little to no communication. At a certain point, you start wondering if anyone actually cares that you're there. You make the effort to come in, set aside your time, and wait patiently, only to sit there watching the clock while nothing happens. If there is going to be an extremely long wait, the least Spectrum can do is be upfront about it and communicate with customers instead of leaving them completely in the dark. What makes it even more frustrating is that customers are essentially forced to waste a huge portion of their day just to get basic assistance. People have jobs, appointments, families, errands, and other responsibilities. Our time matters too. Spectrum shouldn't expect customers to simply sit around indefinitely because their system or staffing can't keep up with demand. I honestly cannot understand how this is considered acceptable customer service. Waiting an unreasonable amount of time should not be treated as normal, especially when customers are paying for the service in the first place. Spectrum needs to seriously rethink how it handles customers and wait times. Better staffing, better communication, and a basic level of respect for customers' time would go a very long way. I left this experience feeling completely frustrated and disappointed. The service itself is one thing, but customer service is a huge part of the overall experience. When a company makes you feel like your time means absolutely nothing, it makes you seriously question why you're giving them your business in the first place. Do better, Spectrum. Customers deserve better than this.

It doesn't end there. The data transfer did not transfer my events and medical appointments on my calendar. It also changed my calendar on my old iPhone so I couldn't retrieve the information and manually transfer it to the new iPhone. Hence, my second visit here. I made an appointment via the chat website for 11 am. I arrived a little early and checked in with Daryl (sp?). He couldn't seem to help me and then John, the manager appeared from the back door and I called him over for assistance. John assisted me the day before. John was helping another customer so I held back and waited for a bit. I informed him of the data transfer concerns. This was @11:19 am. He took a look at my phones (old and new) and he did a few things to both phones. Idk what he did to the phones. He left me @11:23 am to check on the other customer, who had been patiently waiting as well. Now it's @12:25 pm and I haven't seen John yet! I'm a pretty patient person, but it's cold in here and there is no restroom here for customers. One hour wait???? Geez Verizon. What's going on? There are other employees, however, John was the one assisting me yesterday, together with Leland. Leland wasn't in the store during my second visit. It's @12:45 pm and I finally get some time with John. I'm cold and tired. Don't get me wrong, Manager John appears nice and friendly. He just can't figure out what went wrong. The long and the short of this visit, was nothing could be done to resolve the glitch in Verizon's data transfer of my old iPhone to the new iPhone. I finally left this store at @1:06 pm. No resolution to the calendar data loss. Sorry if I miss any dates with anyone lol, including Yelp! There were also unknown charges on my bill that are still unanswered as it's difficult to have consistent service here. John attempted to explain the billing issues on the receipt saying that the next billing will reflect the correct amounts?! Not very comforting to hear that. Always ask for an itemized bill! You'll need it to check your next statement against what was "promised " here. Side note: The first day I had three different employees switch out on me. Each one kept going behind the back door for lengthy amount of times, only to have its customers wait for their magical reappearance. The customer sitting next to me even quipped that he wonders what they do back there lol. I asked an employee what was back there and I was told it's a break room. John said it also is a place to do research and more? The second day, same thing happened. I kept seeing employees go through this door for lengthy time periods. I can't really recommend this location for service unless you really have a whole lot of time to wait. Maybe, it's time to switch plans Verizon?!
