A very nice tasting experience. We have been here before. Karen our host was very good and took us through the list and also substituted a couple of other wines not on the list. She was very knowledgable and talked up each pour. The place is brand new - I could smell it. And everything about the ambiance was very nice. There is a tasting area outdoors we stayed inside. It was moderately crowded but Karen never lost it and took care of us we were 5 and a couple of other groups were also present. We bought an Albariño. Went there today for the first time in a year. It'll be our last. They only allow you to buy glasses if you're going to sit on the "porch". No bottles because of "new rules". It's a complete scam to make more money. They say you can buy bottle to go but you can't drink it there. It wasn't like that before they remodeled. I'm guessing that why there were only 10 cars in the lot. Very disappointing. Unless they change their policy on the bottles (which aren't terribly priced for some) I don't see their business doing well. Just an honest assessment having seen it both ways... pre and post remodel. read more

Have always enjoyed this winery. Very disappointed with the changes. We went to enjoy a glass of wine during a weekday and to sit on the patio with friends. We were told we could only sit on the patio if we did a wine tasting, otherwise we would have to sit on the picnic tables that are now near the parking lot and entrance if we were just purchasing a glass of wine. Our friends did the tasting so they ALLOWED us, with our purchased glasses of wine, to sit on the patio with them since it wasn't a busy day. read more

RIO GRANDE: Hawk Haven Vineyard and Winery is a peaceful and scenic spot to enjoy a glass of wine and get some sun while overlooking the vineyard. Leashed dogs are allowed on the vineyard lawn and under one of the tents when the drapes are open. They have over 20 wines that you can enjoy in a glass, flight, or a bottle for the table. Take some bottles home with you and they even have some canned wine! Brie's Mom really enjoyed the "Sweetish" flight and loves the "paired well" suggestions (see our flight photo for what we mean). We happened on this spot for a tasting . There were two options . 6 1 oz pours of red and whites or 3 2oz pours of either red or white you select the flight. The wait staff was most helpful. They preface by telling you they don't have sweet wine. As we tasted I disagree. I think that there were some sweet options. The three whites were good. I enjoyed especially 2:3. One had a weird immediate taste but grew to like it as I finished. The reds were also nice. They have a heated tent attached to the tasting room. Nice seating options both high/low tables and some sofa seating options. The one thing that was sketchy was noticing people bought all sorts of food , hoagie trays , cheese and meats. Their website clearly tells you NO food. They claim it alters the smell and taste of the wine. One the way out we inquired about bringing in snacks the answer was "it depends on the day". This is silly and inconsistent. The tent smelled like the hoagie tray from the party of tasters. So to bring food or not to bring food .... Hmmmm depends on the day ! lol read more

Absolutely love Hawk Haven. Have never done an official tasting because I love just getting a glass and sitting outside. On weekends there is often a food truck and live music, and they also have a nice selection of packaged snacks inside. I'm always here for a little vineyard action! I came with here with a bachelorette party. With a reservation, we sat in a tented area by ourselves. Plenty of room to spread out. It was a little chilly and the staff "turned on" the electric heater. It lasted no more than 10min and warmed the outside air, not us. Blankets were provided to keep warm. The wine was very tasty. I ended up getting a flight, because I was curious about the Rosé. All three flavors were delicious! Inside you can find a mini grocery store where you can assemble your own charcuterie board--meats, cheeses, and crackers available. I would say the outside left some to be desired. The open field had picnic tables, fire pits (some lit), and lots of children. My previous vineyard experiences didn't have this many children, but I could be in the minority on this. The bathrooms are essentially enhanced port-o-Johns. Again, not my previous experience. But they were clean, so that's a plus. Overall, we had a good experience. I'd be curious to see what other wineries/vineyards look like in the area. read more

What a beautiful winery! So charming! We stopped by to do a tasting. They don't make/serve any sweet wines, which is what I enjoy. I tasted the Sweet-ish wines and my boyfriend chose the white. We sat in the tent outside. They had woven blankets on some chairs which was such a nice touch as it's been chilly and windy down the shore this past week. I dig the bar/small brewery feel to Hawk Haven. It's very straight toward and almost understated. The tasting room and shop is decent sized, with a moderate bar space. They give a good overview of their wines, with my preferences leaning toward their dry reds. After a tasting flight, we hung out outside with a bottle for a bit and enjoyed the open space and breeze coming in off the shore. The space is lovely, but I would bring some bug spray or the gnats will eat you alive. Not quite as flashy or broad in scope as other nearby options, but a very nice experience with friendly staff. read more

Had a really good time there with my family. Place is big and beautiful they have indoor and outdoor siting areas. Since we went on a Sunday, they had a food truck and live music so it was really nice. Day was rainy but that didn't bother us much since our table was under a tent. Food truck food was delicious and the live music was a nice touch. Now as for the wine available here, they had a variety and they had options for different types of flights. They have a little market too where meats, cheeses, crackers, nuts were available to make your own charcuterie board. We did go with 2 kids and I do want to say that it was kid friendly. Perhaps I am spoiled on our NC wineries but Hawks Haven was an underwhelming experience. The Atmosphere was very sterile and somewhat cold customer service. You go to a counter, they hand you a tray with the glasses to taste. You have to pull information out of them and they seem disinterested in telling you about the wine. I find this to be a fun part of a winery, if not, I'd just to to a local bar. The wine was probably the best we had in the area but we left with biting only one bottle. read more

The wines and vibes here are amazing. Quiet, beautiful winery, much different than the other one we visited (which had meh wines and we will not return to that one). Our experience with Hawk Haven was just easy from start to finish. It was super easy to make a reservation via Tock. There are a number of different options, so it is super helpful to be able to read about the options o the website instead of having someone explain over the phone. Theres outdoor tented seating, outdoor picnic seating, indoor or outdoor guided tastings, and firepit seating. We opted for the free reservation for the outdoor picnic table since we knew the sun would be keeping us warm. Host brought us to our table and explained the system - go inside to order the wines, foodtruck for the food, and showed us where the restrooms would be - easy enough. Tables were space far apart and menu was provided via QR code. We opted for the flights for two, which now that I'm thinking about it, think we could have saved a couple of dollars if we had just made the initial reservation with the tastings included - no big deal; just an observation. After the tasting, we opted to have a couple (err few?) more glasses of wines that we really enjoyed (my personal favorite was the 2018 Q) as well as some food from the Hit the Road Jack food truck. There was live music which helped add to the experience and got to love that the manager (or maybe owner?) made her rounds to check on each table. Knocked a star down because no kids allowed (21+ only) and one of the ladies behind the wine counter wasn't very friendly at all. read more

I visited several wineries in the area with a friend. I found Hawk Haven to be my least favorite for two reasons. First, the wines were too dry for my taste. There was not one wine I tasted that I enjoyed. Second, the woman helping us was nice but stood awkwardly watching us taste each pour in silence. She did not bring anything to dump the wines that we did not like, I had to ask. I felt very awkward dumping pretty much all of my pours with her standing and staring. She never even made a comment as to why I dumped everything. They do have a very pretty tasting room and grounds (please play some music, the silence was deafening). Overall a really awkward experience but this could be a completely different experience depending on who helps you. read more

Our new favorite winery. Absolutely amazing atmosphere and amazing staff. We made a reservation for the outdoor wine tasting ($25 a person) which was the best way to go. We got to try 6 of their wines with a complimentary wine glass. Honestly, we loved all of the wines we tried! 3 whites, 3 reds and a staff member giving you information on each wine while answering any questions. You cannot go wrong here. If you're worried about the cold, you're in an enclosed tent with heat warmers if needed. The wines were just amazing. We've went to other wineries around here and we usually don't enjoy the wine, but we loved everything we tasted here. The service was amazing. They checked in on us every 5-10 minutes, giving us information on each wine we were tasting, and were super personable. The atmosphere was super cute and comfortable. There were tents and picnic tables. In the tents, there were string lights, heaters, and different sized tables (but they will only take a party of 6 max.) There was a cover singer out in the field area who played great music. There is also a food truck there with great food - pick on food and tacos and sandwiches! You order at the food truck and they bring it right to your table. You can't go wrong here. Go online, make reservations, and enjoy an amazing time at this winery. read more

Great place to relax and sip some wine. This day they we're celebrating Oktoberfest, with wine. Live music and food trucks. Matt's BBQ and Empanada Mama were the two we sampled. With the entry price of $10 you got a tasting of their classic wines and a wine glass. The weather was perfect except for it being a little windy. We usually come down for the Columbus Day weekend for the Cape May wine festival, but this year there wasn't one. So we're making the best of things by just being out and about. This winery has hosted the October festival in the past but I was told they're in the process of expanding. Along with the Cape May winery this is one of our favorite down in the cape. read more

Nice time, good social distancing. What a cool little winery in Cape May County, NJ....who knew!?! We ventured to this winery on the suggestion of a friend. It was small but well laid out. We tried a number of wines which were reasonable and rather tasty. Personally, I enjoyed the dry red's while Mama K enjoyed the dry whites. The charcuterie plate that was offered while being careful to socially distance, came in a cardboard box and although it was well proportioned, we didn't know what a lot of the cheeses were. This is a great winery in the area. We booked a tour of the Rose varietals and we had a shaded area for a meet and greet with wine tastings before moving into the fermentation area. Celine was amazing, she was so fun and knowledgeable. Everyone in my family loved her and we had a private tour. It might be the end of the season but this spot has been getting better year after year, even though COVID. I'm sure next season will be a destination for any vacationers. Came to Hawk Haven for a scheduled tasting as part of a bachelorette party, and even though we were only a few minutes late, they could not accommodate us. No matter. So we went out back where they had a large tent set up and live music playing, and found a table to sit at while we all took turns going up to the bar. Flights of wine were decent pours, but a little bit pricy. However, my main concern is that you cannot mix wine types on the flights. You can only have a 100% red wine flight, 100% white wine flight, or 100% blush wine flight. But what if I wanted to switch it up? I opted to get the red wine flight, which consisted of a Merlot, two blends that were primarily a Merlot, and one other. They all tasted very similar, especially the three that were all or mostly all Merlot. My sister had the blush flight, which she wasn't crazy about, and I felt tasted all very similar in flavor as well. The only reason I'm giving three stars is because of the food. The Asiago and artichoke dip was good, as were the cheese and cracker plate. The grilled cheese was tasty, but who serves it with corn chowder soup instead of tomato soup? Regardless, this was the first winery we visited where I did not buy a bottle from. I probably wouldn't return. read more

Disclaimer: I didn't do a wine tasting here or eat, but we did order wine by the bottle and sit outside. That being said, Hawk Haven was a pleasant little spot; there was live music, ample seating, and a beachy ambiance with a lovely view around sunset- which is a nice change of pace if you want a bit of a classier feel than some of the divey bars/ restaurants in the area (which are great too, in their own right). However, it does get pretty busy later in the evening with people bussing over, so I wouldn't count on it to be a quiet/peaceful option, if you come on the weekend. As for the wine, we had a red blend that was just fine. Nothing spectacular (especially for $20 a bottle), but it was pleasant enough. I felt as if we were more so paying for the venue, so I was fine with it. In summation: I think it's worth checking out. read more

Hawk Haven is one of the most underrated jersey shore spots! I have been here quite a few times for several different occasions and I have enjoyed myself every time! If you are familiar with Cape May Brewery, then Hawk Haven should be easy to find. One advantage to Hawk Haven is the ample parking they have. I have been here when it is super crowded and have always been able to find a spot. The wine itself is delicious. If you want to do a tasting there is a small fee (I think $10?) and for an additional cost you can keep the glass. The staff thoroughly explains each pour and does not pressure you at all to buy any bottles. One of my favorite events here is the Run the Vineyards 5K- I have now competed in the annual 5K twice, and had beautiful weather both nights. It is so cool to be able to run through the vineyards. Another recent favorite of mine are sangria sundays. Each sunday, Hawk Haven offers red sangria, white sangria, or a rose slushie (which is amazing), accompanied by live music! Last but not least, this place is beautiful. There is a cute swing out front and there is plenty of seating both inside and outside. There is a cute sand area as well as lots of high tops and picnic tables. There are two bars outside in addition to the bars inside. Hawk Haven is pet friendly so bring your pup for a nice relaxing activity at the shore. read more
