We just had dinner there and were very pleased with the entire experience. Everything was excellent from start to finish. For appetizers, we ordered the stuffed long hots with sausage, shrimp cocktail, and burrata--all of which were delicious. My wife and I both chose steak for our entrées. She had the New York strip, and I ordered the ribeye. Surprisingly, the ribeye had very little fat and was cooked to perfection. Our entrées were served with mashed potatoes and broccoli, which complemented the meal nicely. Our server, Sam, was prompt, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout the evening. The entrance of Oyster Bay Restaurant & Bar is absolutely darling, and I was impressed by the size of the parking lot. The spaces are fairly narrow, though, so be careful to park fully between the white lines. If you come in through the back entrance near the bar, you'll need to turn right and walk all the way to the front to find the hostess stand. The bar-area staff seemed a little annoyed when people asked where the hostess stand or restrooms were, although I imagine they probably get those questions often. The hostess was pleasant and seated us promptly. One note for anyone who tends to get cold: bring a cardigan or light jacket. There was a floor vent right beside our table, and I got pretty chilly as the evening went on. The menu offered a wide range of options, from pork chops and duck to salmon, but I was not especially excited by many of the pairings. I started with the crab soup and ordered the blackened sea bass special with coconut rice for my entrée. For the table, we shared the bang bang shrimp and burrata. Both were adequately portioned for our party of five. The bang bang shrimp had the right amount of heat, and the burrata was a nice combination of warm pita bread, portobello mushroom, cooked red peppers, fresh greens, and burrata. I would recommend both appetizers. My crab soup arrived hot and was perfectly seasoned. The spice level was just right, and I liked the balance of small strips of crab throughout, along with a few larger pieces. In my opinion, it had an excellent ratio of crab meat, vegetables, and broth. Unfortunately, the entrées were less impressive. They were all beautifully presented--colorful and nicely portioned--but the flavors left something to be desired. My sea bass was certainly blackened, but I would have enjoyed it much more if the skin had been crisp. Instead, it was soggy, likely because it was placed directly on top of the coconut rice, which also became soggy. The mango pieces were larger than necessary, and there was far too much of the tomato, green pepper, and onion mixture on top. At $46, I expected more in terms of flavor. On a positive note, our waitress was friendly and professional, and the young man who brought out our food was pleasant as well. The food also arrived quickly. Since this was my first visit to the area, I would like to explore other local restaurants before returning. Still, I would not be opposed to giving Oyster Bay Restaurant & Bar another chance and trying a different entrée--possibly the swordfish. read more

We have been going to Oyster Bay for the past 4 years. This time is the last. Food and service are ok. Menu def has to be changed. And they need a new hostess. I made reservation for 12 people. Then had to change to 14 which all of a sudden created a problem. We had to split into 2 tables. I requested the tables be next to each other. You would figure 2 long tables with a space between where we can still talk to each other. No i had 1 rectangle table and a round table that were far from each other and we had to shout across from each other. When I approached the hostess about it. I told her i requested they be next to each other, she actually ARGUED with me! Saying they ate next to each other. They were not together!!! The best part, the room was EMPTY!!! I actually had to argue with her! She would not move the tables. They could have def accommodated me with a long table making it more conducive to having convos, instead of shouting across the room. Then the lights flickered all night. Then at 915 the overhead lights went bright as last call! It was a friday night! Our bill was 1500. I found the hostess to be unprofessional and inexperienced. Oyster Bay was a mixed experience. Our first impression wasn't especially welcoming--the hostess came across as rather unfriendly--but fortunately our waitress was quite the opposite: warm, attentive, and pleasant throughout the meal. The food was OK, though not especially memorable, and that becomes harder to overlook at these prices. Nothing was bad, but several dishes felt priced at a level that suggested something more refined or distinctive than what actually arrived. Good food is one thing; good food at great-food prices is another. The clear highlight, appropriately enough, was the oysters. Fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for in Cape May. They were easily the most satisfying part of the meal. Great choices, but alas, more than 2x the price of the same oysters at the fish market up the road. Oyster Bay certainly isn't a bad restaurant, and we enjoyed ourselves well enough once we were seated. But given the rather ambitious pricing, the experience didn't quite live up to the bill. Had a really nice meal this evening. Oysters app were some of the best we've tasted and beautifully presented. The grouper was very tasty and while the shrimp jambalaya had all the right ingredient's the sauce was a little heavy for that dish. The bananas foster was something I'd always wanted to try and am glad I did. Ambiance was classic dining but nothing noteworthy. Our waiter was great. My wife had the salmon and she loved it. I had the center cut fillet ($54) and it was a total disappointment. I was looking forward to a delicious steak. Instead, I got a VERY dry, tasteless, overcooked steak. There wasn't a single drop of juice in this steak. I asked for it to be cooked medium, but they charred the outside too much and ruined it. Sizzler cooks a better steak! If you're a land lubber looking for a steak, go someplace else. I talked to the waitress, but she did nothing. What a letdown! read more

Kind of a weird / old school vibe. We sat outside which was a mistake. There was absolutely zero atmosphere, and service was not great. The menu is small and we were also a little disappointed to see that it was different than the menu we saw on their website. My jambalaya was just okay and didn't feel 'restaurant' quality. Was sort of mushy and felt like something I would have made at home. The menu should also have better descriptions. My friend ordered the short rib pappardelle. We were expecting an Italian pasta dish but this came out like a weird stroganoff that had huge chunks of beef and pearl onions. Totally not what you'd expect to see when ordering this dish. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great which is why I have to give 3 stars. The place is very cute, I like the old nautical feel it has. I think the menu overall is great and very gluten free friendly! Our feelings were validated when we read some other reviews. The server just had a weird energy about her. She wasn't really attentive or friendly. It's kind of weird set up inside but we did love sitting next to the window to look out at the tree lights. The food was good but we've traveled a lot and have definitely had better. If i could rate the bar and the restaurant separately, the bar scene is a 5/5 for me, high energy, a mix of table tops and bar counter seating, we started off our night with some buck a shuck oysters. They were extremely fresh, and absolutely delicious with a clean flavor. Along with some espresso martinis, we continued the night with their brussel sprout and lamb lolly appetizers. The brussel sprouts could have used a touch more char, but the chili oil flavor was great with the dill sauce and the mediterrenean salad went great with the lamb lollies. As we came on a Friday night, we also got the prime rib and grouper entrees. Here is where it took a turn.... the dinner could only be described as a novice college kid's attempt at fine dining cooking. Both entrees were served with frozen veggies that appeared straight from Costco, with the grouper coming with some flavorless rice and the prime rib some gravy-less mash. The proteins were both ok, but thats as much as I could say about them. For a $35 prime rib and an almost $37 grouper, there was much left to be desired. There is also a free bread service by request, but not a big fan of the dinner rolls as they were very reminiscent of airline dinner rolls. The service is a bit slow as we went on a busy night, but attitudes were great and every server checks in on your regularly. There is a free parking lot in the back, but is on the smaller side compared to restaurant capacity, so be prepared for some street parking nearby per park mobile. Overall, if you in the area on a weekday from 4 to 6, definitely come by for their buck a shuck oyster happy hour! Its great and bar area only, so be prepared for some cozy oyster eating. If you are looking for a nice sitdown dinner, try heading to one of the many other Cape May offerings. read more

Our first time here and it was amazing! We got espresso martinis, pork lollies, the grouper and the braised short rib. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. Wish we had room for dessert. The service was impressive as well. The staff is very personable. Lauren was a great server and the staff let us sit at the bar to wait out the rain. My family and I came here for oysters and dinner. While the local oysters were good, our experience was ruined by a terrible server. Two people in our party ordered the duck. We were told it would be prepared medium rare, but it came out well done. When a member of our party mentioned it to our server, he ignored her. When we mentioned it again as he was taking our plates away, he was completely unapologetic. The dish was supposed to be "duck l'orange" but it was 5 burnt pieces of duck with 3 pieces of canned mandarins on top. I've eaten here with friends four times in the last year. I do prefer the bar food more so than the dinning room. Totally different menus. The burgers in the bar are very good. I give the bar a 4 and dinning room a 3. I've only eaten in the dinning room on season, bar off and on season. Service hasn't been great in dinning room. Bar is always consistent and I feel dinning room is not. The bar has daily specials, the food is fresh and they really offer lots of options. They have bar stools that you can sit at the bar or tables throughout the room. I did have the tuna this time. It was sliced too think and a little chewy. Shared the most incredibly amazing dessert, cheesecake banana foster which was over the top amazing. read more

Finally tried this place after 30 years of Cape May dining.....can't believe I never made it in but BF and I decided to hit a bunch of places we've never been too. Simply put, we loved it. Want to give a 4.5. We sat at the bar in the back because we didn't want a formal night. We had Oysters and Clams on the half both were so fresh they tasted delicate or like the sea as my mom would say. Then we had two apps - the crab salad with fried tomatoes, and the crispy scallops. Holy cow were those scallops good!! I went to fish market, bought some and fried them up when I got home because I loved them so much. It's friendly. It's both casual in the back but very pretty in the front dining rooms for a special night or more formal setting. We liked the menu but honestly raw bar food isn't everywhere in the Cape so this was a great find. We went to about 6 new places and this one is a definite for next trip. read more

They have a parking lot! Beautiful bar with a reasonable bar menu! And the food was tasty & presented well! The service was not so good. The bartender was completely inattentively disengaged. We sat at the bar for about 15 mins and WE had to get his attention. Again, we had to let him know we were ready to order. I enjoyed an excellent Shrimp Chop salad, next time I'd order the dressing on the side, a little too much for my taste. Hubby loved his oysters! Oh, I also ordered the Maryland Crab soup, which after we received our meals, I had to get the bartenders attention to remind him of my soup order. He had forgotten it. We sat again waiting for him to check back so we could order dessert & refill my water. I got the bar-back for my water. We flagged him down, AGAIN...for the dessert and yes, it was delicious. We went on a sunday evening, around 530 and yes it was packed, we walked up to the hostess and wow what a bad experience. this woman was so confused and to be honest, didnt help us at all and didnt want to. we walked up, group of 2, and asked how long is the wait for 2 people. Any guesses what she said? ill tell you. she said " I dont know", and just smiled. and we were like okay, well can you find out? she look frazzled and said well, i dont know. what the f-ck? If i said that at my job, id be fired. We said umm, and asked what about the bar? and she said okay let me go check and see. she took off, and we decided to follow. im glad we did because she didnt even bother looking for seats, she like walked around the bar area and then left. We ended up grabbing 2 seats at the bar. it took forever to get menus, but the food was absolutely worth it. i would come back for the food alone, and the prices were great too! We started off with the bang bang shrimp. my only complaint? its not enough! i wish this were a bigger portion. we shared it and i instantly regretted it. the shrimp were plump, fried, but juicy. it had a nice bite and the sauce was on point. i got the grouper reueben sandwhich with a side of potatoe salad. OH MY GOD! HUGE sandwhich. you can share. the fish was juicy, with a slight fried outside. the sauces and the housemade saurkraut were perfect! So many places scew up the potatoe salad, but not this place. so fresh and not too tangy! right on point! my friend got their special, the coconut shrimp sliders. 3 sliders, sweet and fried to perfection! they werent too filling tho. however, they came with a side of potatoe salad too! read more

We came solely for the oysters. So we tried both locally sourced and specially selected Raw Oysters. I personally prefer the locally sourced(I think) ones; they were so meaty, so slurpy but not too briny. Drops of mignonette sauce? Yes, please. The specially selected(or were they the locally sourced?) were definitely smaller, more delicate and more pretty but the ocean taste was also more subtle. Then there were the Rockefellers. My first time to try and I found them to be too rich, as they were aptly named. Happy with the service. Happy with our corner. Happier with my virgin mojito. Happiest with the raw oysters. read more

My husband and I were getting dinner here over Memorial Day weekend in Cape May. We came at around 5:30pm on Monday without a reservation and were seated immediately. They had both indoor and outdoor dining at the time we dined here. We ordered an appetizer and one main dish each. The food was pretty mediocre and I felt like I could have made something better myself. It was annoying because the food prices were the same as NYC - but just with much worse quality. My scallops were not made well and the vegetables on the side seemed like they'd just been steamed and put on the plate. My husband's seafood vol au vent was a bit better but not by much.
