We popped in to the Hawk n Dove after a busy morning touring the Capitol Building. We were greeted at the door in a reasonable amount of time. It looked like the restaurant was full, but they were able to get us a table near the kitchen - which is always fun since you can watch the buzz of the kitchen and wait staff hustling out all of the food orders. There is a lot going on here - busy bar, sports, news and trivia televised on screens above the bar. Witty T-shirts and memorabilia hanging on the walls. Generous portions, and upscale healthy food options in addition to the normal pub grub. We noticed that other tables had opted for salads and flatbreads so we did too. The personal sized flatbread was the perfect amount for one person. Nice combination of toppings and a warm soft crust. Salads were perfectly seasoned and dressed. Sore feet and low battery, it's time for beer. I was close to the Capitol and Supreme Court, so the walk to Hawk was easy enough. Inside, masks are required and social distancing is in place with space between tables and limited seats at the bar. I sat at the bar where my bartended poured me a cold happy hour beer, took my order for happy hour wings and then plugged in my phone for about 20 minutes. Hooray! Wings were delivered, a pile of six in a hot sauce and served with the usual carrots, celery and blue cheese dressing. A nice portion and a good price - $13 for the two. It's a nice sports bar with a great view from the bar area of the table area. Clean restrooms, good wifi and I enjoyed my meal. This was my second at Hawk n Dove in one week. The first was a very quiet Sunday evening for dinner a drink. It was pretty quiet and fairly empty. The tables are all socially distanced and the best part for me was the multiple large screen TVs placed around the restaurant which is great for a game watch. The food was pretty good. The first time I ordered the soup which was Manhattan clam Chowder and I also built my own pizza. Had a couple of drinks and called it a night. I sat at the bar socially distanced in a far corner. The service was good. Bar staff was extremely nice and checked back often and made great recommendation. I decided to return on Thursday evening for happy hour and to watch a big college basketball game with a friend. This time I only ordered the happy hour nachos and 2 drinks. Unfortunately, my second experience was not as pleasant as the first. The waitress was nice but understaffed. All the tables on the first floor ended up being filled and it appeared that she was the only server who was being assisted by the bartender and possibly the manager. Dirty dishes were not cleared off the table in a timely manner. Food and drinks were slow to come out. They have some really cute fire pit tables on the patio and plenty of tvs. There is also a second floor level which I have not viewed yet. I will most likely try it again. In the evening, I visited the restaurant with my son. It was relatively quiet, and we received excellent service along with great food. Overall, I had no significant complaints about our experience. However, I do wish they offered a dedicated kids menu; nevertheless, we managed to find suitable options by ordering chicken tenders and fries from the appetizer menu for my son. Additionally, I decided to try one of their house wine specials from the happy hour menu, and it turned out to be truly excellent. Large party was a fail. Lackluster service with puzzling reasons from the beginning on why a check couldn't be separated. Great if all received per diem but many didn't and needed receipts for reimbursed travel. The manager intervened and finally took care of us. My visit the next night while seated at the bar was better. Theres some decent items on the menu. The Capitol Burger was the most interesting with ham, salami, bacon, and provolone. Fries crisp and hot. The Founding Fathers flatbread pizza was also a great pairing with drinks. Went two times. First time I sat at the bar. Good service and decent bar food. Drink prices a little high. The second time I came I brought a friend and they sat us right next to a large high top table full of what appeared to be capitol staffers who were very loud. Also so close to them that everyone who walked by bumped into us. We asked for another table but was informed that they only have two tables for two people, both right next to the high top table. The restaurant was only about half full so it was odd that the host said all other tables were reserved even though it was only 5:30. I enjoyed Hawk 'n' Dove. It's super casual but food and drink were good and service was excellent. Not only was our server great, the hostess was very kind. I mentioned that we were here for happy hour and that one in our party had accessibility needs. Since happy hour is only at the bar, and the bar is not accessible, she gave us a table close to the bar and happy hour pricing, which was much appreciated. Happy hour pricing is reasonable. The happy hour drinks were good. I enjoyed the Hawkhattan. For dinner, I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with arugula, cheddar, and tomato. The kitchen forgot the arugula and added bacon instead. So...that was odd but the sandwich was delicious. And the fries were crispy and flavorful too. The staff is cool I usually look for my Go to bartender Giooo! They have a point system that that do when you purchase drinks or food from any of there sister companies such as Lola, ophelia and few others.. Came here for a late brunch after the 10 mile Cherry Blossom run. It was nice and sunny when we arrived so we asked to be seated outside. It quickly cooled down and got breezy. Luckily the place was. It very busy and they we were able to reseat ourselves near the fireplace. We waited for a good 20 minutes without any server coming to bring water, take our drink order or our food order. It wasn't until I went inside and let them know that we were ready that they realized they didn't even know we were seated outside. We were seated by the host, so we didn't just sit down on our own. I ordered the French toast and the cheesy grits. The French toast was solid and came with a a few strips of bacon. Nothing special about the bacon. The cheesy grits came in a cast iron skillet. My experience was so bad that it prompted me to write my first Yelp review. I came here with a friend for a dinner and left sorely disappointed. The waiter was inattentive, forgot to bring out drinks, food, and when he finally brought out the food we ordered, it was burnt and barely a portion that you'd even see on a kid's menu. The sauce we ordered came 20 minutes after we got our food, and the drinks we ordered never came. When I finally had the chance to complain, I was told the "general manager" was in a meeting--at 9pm on a Saturday night. Despite asking to speak with them and saying I was willing to wait, I was soon turned away and told that the manager approved a five dollar "courtesy fee". It's pathetic this supposed manager--apparently new--didn't have the guts to speak to a paying customer. I've never had a worse experience. Stay away at ALL COSTS! read more

We had reservations fro 24 and upon arrival the tables had not been reserved. We waited at least 30 minutes past our reservation to be seated. We then waited an additional hour before all our orders were take. Our food did not start coming out until around 8pm with the last person being served around 8:45pm when everyone had finished thier meals. She took her meal to go. We were served luke warm water in plastic cups, told to order appetizers and they would be complimentary due to the long wait but they only comped 50% of the appetizers. This was by far one of the worst experiences we have had with a restaurant. I emailed and gave the manager a chance to make it right and never heard back. We had a great experience on two other occasions but this time, it was beyond disappointing! * One guest requested her salmon without the sauce because she can't have gluten, but was given the sauce anyway * Another guest ordered a burger with no bun or cheese and was served one with both * The servers were very frustrated when they brought out the wrong food and no one claimed it as their meal (because it was not what they ordered). * One guest ordered the cajun pasta with chicken and it was brought out with shrimp. It was then sent back and the right order came out to her. Then, however, another order of the cajun pasta with chicken came out and we sent it away because no one else had ordered that. The waiter came out and asked us "what is wrong with the food this time?" Everyone was taken aback at how he said that and even I had heard what he said from another table. The guest tried to answer but he was arguing with her. At this point, one other guest jumped in a told him what had happened, shut down the back and forth, and he left her alone. * Our tables were shocked by how often the manager mentioned how she was supposed to have the day off and how frustrated she was to be there. They thought it was very unprofessional to continuously mention it to guests and this really made everyone feel like we were putting out the restaurant by ordering perfectly normal things. It made them feel very much like a burden, despite the fact that the last two tables had just resigned to eating "whatever came out of the kitchen next." * No refills on sodas were offered and guests did not feel like they could ask because of the attitude of the servers and the manager who was supposed to be taking care of all the mishaps. * After our orders were taken, the server seemed frustrated with "special requests" (such as no sauce on the salmon because of gluten, no cheese on the burger because of a dairy issue, grilled vs. fried chicken on the sandwich, etc.) and he proceeded to rip the menus out of people's hands. Our guests were shocked at this behavior and made comments on how rude it was. Even when you are frustrated, you never take it out on your guests, especially those who were perfectly polite. read more

I went here for a Christmas work party, and the venue was great. There were plenty of space to walk around and mingle. The bar is also located upstairs with two bartenders, so we can easily order drinks without hassle. The acoustics were great, so we can hear everyone when socializing. No need to yell over each other. Food was yummy. I loved their crab cakes and shrimp cocktails. Their mini burgers were like any other mini burgers, so they were alright. Same goes for the chicken teriyaki. Their drink specials were yummy! I got the Race for the Ballots, which is a hot drink and tasted really yummy. I got another drink with Bailey's that I really can't recall the name of except that it had the word, Mocha, in it. Super yummy. read more

Kinda let down by this place. They aren't much like their advertising would have you believe. First off, online, they say the dress code is business casual. This makes me think collared short and pants, perhaps something classier than jeans. In person, it appears the vibe is more like "don't let the holes in your pants line up with the holes in your underwear." And, really, that's kinda flexible too-- the ambiance is dark and shabby-chic. Calling it "chic" is being generous. Next up- menu. Their menu in the restaurant is nothing like what was online, which was a real pisser. Wifey specifically chose this place for shrimp and grits that featured prominently online. Guess what? We show up, it's not on the menu. Wifey asks the waitress who (unhelpfully) replies, "Yeah, new menu." About this new menu - same old sh* - as everyone else: pizza, burgers, a few signature entrees (pot pie and shepherd's pie, if I remember correctly). I can get this poop about anywhere. It's about as exclusive as TGI Friday's. Quality of the food we did order, not bad, to be honest. But I had a pizza when I had been really looking forward to braised short ribs. Finally, *one* waitress waiting all the tables - indoor and out. Thankfully (?) they were about 1/3 of capacity. Big party upstairs, I think, based on the noise, maybe they took all available hands. You can tell that there are not many fresh items on the menu: frozen veggies in the pot pie, canned sauce on the pizza, frozen fish and not to mention everything was super hot! My rating is based on happy hour. We went on Monday which is when they do happy hour all day. The happy hour on Monday has a great selection of drinks you can get. Beers, wine, or cocktails. I got a long island and it was well made. My sister got the happy hour nachos which were 8 dollars. They had a lot of toppings on them and they were really good, definitely worth the price. Had they not been 8 dollars I am not sure they would be worth the money. For dinner, I got french fries and a side caesar salad. When they brought my food I got fries and their cooked seasonal veggie mix. I'm not sure how that mistake happened, but I ended up not saying anything as I like sauteed veggies. They were good. The fries were fantastic. I think because it was happy hour I really liked this place, but had it not been I think I would prefer going somewhere else. read more
