Came here as part of the Wine & Art trail they had last month. I've always wanted to come here to see what it's about. The tasting room is small, but the main area to sit and sip is definitely outside as the views are breathtaking, and you can also watch the hawks flying around. The owner I'm assuming the wife was friendly and informative. She told me to add myself to the email list so I can be aware of upcoming events. I remember seeing they had charcuterie boards for Mother's Day, imagine sipping wine and partaking a charcuterie board, yum! We stumbled on this place on accident and we were very impressed! The location is gorgeous - on top of a hill with gorgeous views of the valley and surrounding mountains. It's a gorgeous place to watch the sunset. The wine was delicious- we purchased a flight of red wine (5 pours for $18) and they were all so good. The vineyard grows their own grapes which they add to imported ones which give them a unique flavor that can only be replicated at Hawk Watch. This is a family owned business and the husband/wife were so kind and humble. They were easy to talk to and were genuinely grateful to have us there. They have a wine club that's FREE to join! you are only paying for the quarterly bottles of wine and there are other awesome perks - it's worth it if you stop by every few months. Bring your pup (as long as they are leashed and stay outside) and get ready for a wonderful afternoon sipping delicious wine! They have a few snacks for sale inside, too. read more

We had seen this winery months ago while taking a back road. I liked the name so decided to book mark it to make sure I visited at a later date. This is a small family owned winery with some of the best views of the valley & of course, wines! We tried a couple of their flights and not one wine was disappointing. Alyssa warmly greeted us as we entered and gave us great information on all of their wines. She even did a brief presentation on how wine is made. The view is absolutely stunning. There are several seating areas outside as well as a few tables inside however, with this type of view we definitely chose to sit outside and take it all in. Wines are absolutely delicious! We purchased a red (Malbec) and a white wine (Voignier). They do sale some snacks however, you're also welcome to bring your own too. If you're looking for a more secluded place with beautiful views, then this your place. Will definitely be back! read more

Have visited twice now and enjoyed both experiences. Owners Mike & Lisa were wonderful hosts for our first visit, and Nikki was pouring for us this last time. They're very friendly and tasting pours are generous. WINES: They offer three levels of wine tastings: The Raptor (2 whites, 1 rosé, and 3 reds for $15), The Redtail (6 reds for $15), and The Predator (4 premium reserve reds and 1 additional red for $25). We've now done all three tastings and really enjoy the rosé and most of the reds. IMO, the whites are a little too acidic for our taste. I always say, wine tasting is subjective, so what I like/dislike, you may hate/love. I always suggest that you try and decide for yourself. There was one downside for me. We purchased 4 bottles the first visit and I joined their wine club to take advantage of the 25% discount. I was told by Lisa that the next wine club shipment would be in a couple weeks. I asked to defer that one to the following shipment and was told "No". We really didn't need another 3 bottles right after our first visit. On the other hand, club members receive a 25% discount on bottles, 30% on cases, and 15% discount on merchandise and food. This last visit, we picked up a couple small blocks of cheese (Sharp Cheddar, Smoked Cheddar, and Smoked Swiss) to pair with our wine tastings. The property offers beautiful views and delicious wines. A tranquil setting for sure. A definite "must visit" winery when traveling through the San Diego County wine regions. I recommend. read more

This is a very nice winery in Warner Springs. The winery offers some white wines, but it really specializes in red wines and has several very good blends and single varietal wines. Some of their wines come from estate vineyards and others are sourced from nearby vineyards. They have a wide variety of wines, including some great but less known grape varietals such as Tannat, which coincidently is one of my favorite wines. There are two levels of wines and wine tastings. They are all good, but the premium wines are superb, Service is good and the winery is nice, in a country setting with beautiful views of Warner Springs. I recommend you give Hawk Watch Winery a try next wine you are in Warner Springs. I don't think you will be disappointed. read more

The Mrs. and I were on our way to Borrego Springs when we happened upon Hawk Watch Winery. Our tasting at Hawk Watch was the kind of experience we enjoy the most. A small intimate tasting room, beautiful setting, great wine, and friendly staff. It was a bit breezy and cold outside, but we decided to enjoy the outdoors despite the less than perfect climate. The wines at Hawk Watch are really good. They have a straight Mourvedre which is one of my favorite varietals. Tastings are $15 and you get to keep your glass. The lady who poured for us was incredible. We didn't even have to go inside when we needed more wine. She came to us. We frequent the Ramona wineries but wanted to stop by Warner Springs and try some of their wine. Hawk Watch had a large outdoor tasting patio with gorgeous views and nice seating. They offer both red and white wines but we only tasted red wines with their Cab being our favorite. They also had a fun holiday special which was picking an unmarked bag of wine for $19 sale. This is a fantastic winery about 35 minutes or so from the Temecula wineries. They have a great selection of reds and whites to offer and a wine glass is included with the tasting. The owners Lisa & Mike are wonderful. I usually see Lisa pouring and she knows so much about the wines and nuances of each one. They also have lots of events throughout the year, especially during the summer with live music. It's great place to have a glass of wine, relax outside, and enjoy the view while the sun is setting. Escape the Temecula wineries and check out Hawk Watch and the other wineries in the area! You won't be disappointed. read more

Stopped by on our way back from off roading in Anza Borrego. 6 tastings for $12 is very reasonable. All were delicious. We skipped the whites, and went straight to the reds. We got to taste everything on the menu, including the reserves. A few standouts were the Zin, called Tinderbox, and the 2011 Reserve Petite Syrah. They also have a cream sherry and 2 ports. The regular port was as rich, bold and good as the Decade barrel aged one. Rivals Wiens, Leoness, and Doffo's ports. Small tasting room, beautiful views outside with lots of places to sit. We had the privilege of meeting the winemaker Mike and his wife as well as their only other employee. He is a jokester, and we enjoyed dishing it out as much as he did. We are considering joining when we are done with some of our other winery memberships. A great end to a perfect day. read more

We enjoyed an outdoor tasting over Labor Day weekend. The view from the patio is gorgeous. Service was outstanding. The wine was some of the best I've ever tasted. Even though we don't live close by, we joined the wine club to get a discount on these delicious wines. Each of the ones I tasted was a winner. Kudos to Mike and Lisa for helping a customer who was taken ill during our visit. She was treated as though she was family, while waiting for the paramedics. Our dogs were made welcome and given water. There are strict rules for dog families, to ensure a pleasant experience for all. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

A few whites but mostly big reds. There are about 10 reds to choose off the tasting menu. We were impressed with at least 3. You can stand inside the small tasting room with the resident cats or sit outside which generally has a breeze. You can bring your own food which is nice. My husband and I love Hawk Watch! I'm a white girl and my husband is a red guy. This place does not dissapoint in either category- nice, refreshing whites from dry to lightly sweet and great reds from mild to full bodied. You can tell they really put the love and care into their product! (That, my friends, is required to produce great wine!) Mike and Lisa are the great hosts, not to mention their adorable kitties Zoro and Zena are always around:) The grounds are also beautimus! I'm so glad we joined their wine club- not only is the wine great- but it also gives us an excuse to take a little trip up to the mountains;) So... leave pretentious, expensive, overrated Temecula behind and come give this place a try- you won't regret it! read more

My friends and I stopped by this little winery on the way out to the desert. We saw the signs and decided to pull in for a quick break. It was definitely worth it! The owners were very friendly and enthusiastic. They have two adorable cats. We opted for the 6 wines for $6 wine tasting, which included a nice souvenir wine glass you got to keep. We ate our lunch, took our time, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. This winery is in a very peaceful place, overlooking the vineyard and surrounded by the mountains. They have chairs and picnic tables right outside. We brought some sandwiches along and it was perfect! The wines were wonderful as well. I'm not much of a wine connoisseur, but the owners were happy to explain each wine and what to look for. Their wines have won awards in local competitions. They have both white and red wines, some dry and some incredibly sweet. I bought a bottle of white grenache, which was somewhere in the middle. It cost $15, which I felt was very reasonable for a small-production wine. They also have good rates for shipping FedEx if you want some of their wine later on. Overall, a great experience and excellent place to unwind, if you pass by this region on the weekend. read more

Coming from a nice trip to Anza Borrego, we decided to take a little detour to Warner Springs and do a little wine tasting. The scenery was beautiful and the owner super nice. After a desert hike and drive, we were really thirsty and she had no problems with us filling up our water bottle from hers. We also were able to situate our toddler with a snack while we enjoyed some wine tasting. The wines were quite good, especially a fabulous Meritage blend we so wanted to buy (but it was a little pricey for us at 28$). I recommend trying that wine if you try anything here. Came away with a nice large souvenir wine glass. We love that! read more

I spend a lot of time wine tasting in Temecula but I've found that Hawk Watch, about a half hours drive from Temecula wine country, is well with worth the little trip. Their reds are phenomenal, (I hear good things about their whites but I get so excited about their reds that I forget to try the others on the menu) the views are spectacular and the owners Lisa and Mike are kind, genuine people always quick to answer any questions and drop some fun facts about the wine! Also, they've got some handsome cats. Looking at you Zoro. So go check them out. Hawk Watch Winery is a newly opened, up-and-coming (I think) winery in a gorgeous setting in the mountains near Warner Springs. My fiance and I are frequent visitors to the nearby Shadow Mountain Winery (just down the road) and were excited to see another winery with a tasting room open up nearby. Lisa and Mike, the owners, are super-friendly as are their cats who hang out in the tasting room. Lisa (who has been the person working in the tasting room on our two previous visits) will happily talk to you about the history of the winery and their wine-making methods. Their current releases are a Sauvignon Blanc, White Grenache, Muscat, Syrah, Zin, Meritage, and a reserved Syrah. We didn't get a chance to taste the Muscat (it was sold out when we visited, although there's a new release now), but the regular Syrah, Zin, and Meritage were all quite good...and the reserved Syrah was really, really good. If you're looking for a friendly, off-the-beaten-path boutique winery, I highly recommend stopping by Hawk Watch. read more

I liked Hawk Watch. I'd heard about it for years but never got the chance to visit. It is, after all, pretty isolated. My buddy and I stopped by after hiking a nearby trail. They didn't seem to care that we were hot, sweaty and probably a bit smelly. I think we spent $10 for 6 tastings and chatted with the owners while we tried the wines. The Cab Franc was one of the best I've ever had and they have a desert wine called Parchment that is amazing. I would consider joining their wine club it it were not quite so far away, or if I lived closer to Warner Springs were I could more easily visit. As it is, I will try to stop after every hike I make out here. Definitely glad I finally made time to visit. read more
