Hawley Lane Shoes in Orange saved the day and helped me discover and deliver the perfect birthday gifts for my friend of 18 years. After searching far and wide for over a year, my gracious friend was able to find the most magnificent colors of two pairs of Hoka sneakers in Harbor mist and ice water. Special thanks to the wonderful staff Mary and Joe. Both are super knowledgeable about fitting the right sneaker to difficult feet. They practice what they preach in their description  "we place emphasis on "fitting" shoes based on the individual customer's needs and educate the consumer about foot health and footcare related products to help alleviate and prevent foot pain and disorders" The selection at this divine store is remarkable but the service is truly the most outstanding feature and makes the sneakers well worth the price. We had a great experience here buying Uggs. Lots of inventory available and very friendly staff. We were greeted warmly as soon as we came into the store. We browsed and no one was pressuring us to buy anything. When we needed help getting the shoes in our size, someone was instantly there to assist. It was just an all-around very good very fast. After fracturing my foot twice and having back issues I need something super supportive and stylish. All of the HL associates are very knowledgeable and love their job, it shows! Nikki especially has helped me many times, even during covid when I needed a dress shoe for my wedding (when dress shoes were no where to be found). She remembers me each time I visit the store which I really appreciate. Some of the shoes tend to be a bit pricey, however, I feel as though you can't put a price on comfort when you have foot/back issues. My 2 year old and I visited the Orange store recently. Amy was FANTASTIC. she measured us both and helped me decide on a new pair of sneakers for my toddler (who had been wearing shoes that were 2 sizes too small). she was patient when my daughter was running all over the store and taking every pair of shoes off the shelf. She educated me on bringing her in every 3ish months to get her measured As her feet are growing so quickly. Further- I listened to them talk to a customer on the phone about how to get to the store and was so impressed with how generous they were with time and kindness . This is my go-to store for footwear. I continue to buy there because of the broad selection and quality and value of the inventory, staff knowledge about all of the brands. I just had a wonderful experience. I few months ago, I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. I need a pair of good, comfortable shoes and I've seen so many commercials, I figured I'd give Hawley Lane shot. About 30 seconds after I walked in, I was greeted by Matt. He listened to my needs, showed me my options, and was beyond helpful. I selected a pair, was given an accurate shoe fitting ( which I haven't had since I was a kid ) and purchased a well constructed, supportive shoe for my condition at a competitive price. I came in to look at the Henriette shoe by Dansko. I was wearing the Honor shoe and Nikida recognized it immediately. We agreed that it could be squeaky sometimes even though it's very comfortable. She knew from my lack of complaints that I did not need a wide shoe. She's definitely invested in a customer's satisfaction. She recommended the Paisley shoe, which is good for winter. That is an extremely comfortable shoe, which I probably will buy in the future. Nikki was personable, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. read more

I've made the 25 minute drive here twice to buy my daughter shoes because it's totally worth it. Salesperson Nikki helped us out both times and she knows everything there is to know about fitting kids and which shoes work best with my daughter's feet so I didn't have to tear my hair out trying to figure out whether I was buying the right type of shoe, nor do I have to wonder if they fit properly. Plus, the whole staff was kind and accommodating of my energetic one year old and Nikki never takes it personally when she's met with a tantrum. You can go to Target and pick up a pair of kids' shoes for $25 or you can come here and leave with peace of mind and a better product for a tad more. Very clean store, social distancing enforced. Went to Hawley Shoes recently due to their ads that they are a speciality shoe store for problem feet and walking. We arrived to find two customer service reps waiting on other customers. We were greeted as we entered (hence one star). But down hill from there. One customer service rep seemed to be professionally waiting on a customer (hence star number two) and the other seemed more intent on entertaining her customers and talking about herself more than anything else plus "advising" her customer on health issues. After 20 minutes another customer service rep came out from the back to finally help us. However we knew more about the shoes than she did and her attention -instead of how we were walking in the shoes- was watching another customer being waited on. No real attention at all. Would not recommend this store at all unless you want to wait on yourself. read more

Outstanding customer service!! I have a job that requires me to stand all day so my feel are constantly aching. I went in yesterday to find yet another pair of shoes to give me some comfort. Charly explained why I was having problems and explained the type of shoe that would be better by offering the correct support. Before she ever brought any shoes out, she sized me and answered all my questions. Although I always spent money on good brands, I was not buying shoes that would support the areas I needed. They carry some good brands. The (I believe possibly manager) at the Shelton store - larger store-and a sales person, spoke to me, highly insulted and were very rude and confrontational, that I asked two questions about my plantar fasciitis and a sneaker, to the manager(?) and not the sales person helping me. Seriously, I'm walking around the store, trying on a pair of shoes and I recognized the ( I believe) manager, someone who has been working there a number of years, and being a manager or Asst mgr, may have more experience and knowledge, so I asked him two questions. The sales person immediately became confrontational, and spoke to me in a very unfriendly, insulting, negative tone, asking me - how dare I ask another employee a question I had and not her! I can order shoes online or go to another store instead of dealing with confrontational sales people. The most horrible customer service and treatment- unprofessional- not nice! Unpleasant experience! They should get jobs, not working in sales with customers! Be pleasant! Treat customers respectfully! I found the customer service at HL other locations to be much better. They don't ignore you and aren't rude to you. read more

If I could give this 0 stars, I would. I went to Hawley Lane Shoes after reading their ads, they seemed helpful, and to carry brands I never heard of. Since I have plantar fasciitis, I've been at my wit's end trying to find shoes that help me to alleviate the pain in my feet. I had to ask to be helped at HLS. There were several employees standing around, talking to each other. They seemed completely oblivious to the fact that I was there to buy shoes. Perhaps they have a lot of window shoppers? The woman who assisted me was hygenically challenged. She smelled. Her hair, her breath, her body. It just smelled bad. It was hard to not focus on that. But since she was the only person trying to help me, I accepted. I told her what was wrong, I told her I would trust her experience, and was open to trying on any shoe. She seemed overwhelmed, and we ended up trying on tons of shoes, none of them felt right. She measured my feet, but never asked me to use the orthotics machine. I have an insanely high arch, and need orthotics (I know now). I ended up asking her to use the orthotics machine, then picking out a pair of plain black shoes. I bought them, spending $190. I wore them religiously for 4 days, then went back to return or exchange them. I spoke with her again, and she said it was an adjustment period, she knew my feet just had to get used to them. We spent another afternoon revisiting shoes I had tried on previously, then I left, convinced I had to be patient. I went back 2 days later, and returned the the shoes. My pinkie toes (on both feet) were bleeding. She fit me in a shoe so narrow that it couldn't even accommodate my feet. It was a waste of 3-4 hours! I ended up making my own makeshift orthotics for a few months, and becoming more crippled by the pain. I spent a lot of time on the couch, to avoid putting pressure on my feet. Then I discovered The Walking Company (and Jennifer) in Trumbull (at the mall). She listened, and knew what she was doing. read more

I just spoke with Dean in the Orange store by phone. I was looking for a specific type of sock for my parents. He found their previous purchase on their system, checked their inventory and when Orange didn't have the socks, he checked the inventory in the Shelton store. He offered to have them transferred to Orange or put on hold in Shelton, (which is the option I chose.) He then called Shelton to confirm they were in stock, and called me back to confirm that they were put on hold for me. He also mentioned that they were offering a sale on these socks at this time, and advised me of the store hours. He was very professional and helpful throughout. Just left Hawley Lane in Orange and have to say that I wish more businesses follow their professionalism. I was helped by a young 19 y/o blonde girl that went above and beyond for me. Attentive, informative, courteous. I don't feel so bad about spending $200 on shoes when the help is this nice. I've also not seen this kind of work ethic from a young 20-something in forever so big kudos to you. You'll go far in whatever career you choose, but for the time being please stay in the HLS Orange store so I can continue to get great service. The staff is extremely helpful and courteous! This is the kind of customer service that has died in too many stores. They got me in to the right shoes for my needs, and helped me find the best orthotics I've ever tried. The brands that they carry are only of the best quality, and their prices are honestly not bad for what you get, which are amazingly comfortable and durable shoes. I have even tried finding better prices online and nothing can really compare, with the exception of certain New Balances that you can find on sale every now and then. In terms of selection, this store is great. What they don't have on hand, they can get it within hours for you! It's very convenient. They had a pair of On running shoes that they didn't have in my color delivered to their store within 2 hours of my requesting it. I am so pleased with the service I got at Hawley Lane Shoes in Orange. Every worker was with a customer when I walked in and yet they all took the opportunity to greet me and ask if I was being helped. When she was done with her client, Melinda came over and asked how she could help me. She worked with me for close to 30 minutes to find shoes that I could wear to work during the last trimester of my pregnancy. She was personable, funny, and honest about what worked and what didn't. When my size was unavailable in a shoe we had picked out, she and another employee (I'm sorry I didn't get her name - she was wonderful as well!) worked together in the stock room to pick alternative styles for me. It's also worth noting that while I was looking around, a different employee was assisting a woman looking for shoes in a certain color and size and he was determined to help her. He was knowledgable about his stock and was genuinely apologetic about the lack of a product's availability, working to find solutions. I haven't witnessed or experienced such excellent customer service maybe ever and I would hire any one of these people if I were given the opportunity. read more

I went in today looking for Superfeet insoles because they were recommended to me by a few people to be the next best thing to custom orthotics, which I don't have the money for. They only had a couple Superfeet and normally recommend another brand which is fine and understandable, but they literally new NOTHING about Superfeet. This is an orthopedic shoe store and you know NOTHING about a product you carry? I need Insoles because I have very flat feet and my ankles cave in which bothers my hip when I walk, and I do a lot of hiking so it becomes troublesome. I was gonna give the other insole a shit, so the lady measured my feet to "make sure I really am a 7." Her scale told me I was an 8, but every other scale I've tried and every other shoe I own is a size 7 (sometimes smaller depending on the kind of the shoe). She tried to argue with me saying "no you're an 8, I bet that's why you're having problems" pretty sure I've been wearing a 7 and my feet are not squeezed into my shoes, and even if they were that wouldn't be causing my ankles to cave and giving me hip pain. She didn't even know how to use the machine that tests which insole is right for me. Idk if she was new but she was not knowledgable at all. I went to Dick's because they carry a larger variety of Superfeet, but assumed since they carry such a wide variety of products that they wouldn't be able to answer my questions either and I'd have to just research online. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the employee was able to help me and find the right fit. Anyways, I will not be returning here if I ever need some kind of specialized shoe or insole. I'll research online and buy elsewhere. Only giving two stars because they were nice. read more

I tossed the box, packed the shoes and went on vacation. I put my insoles in and put the shoes on. I wore the shoes for 2 days not understanding why they didn't fit well. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon maybe an hour before closing. They were short-staffed and the poor salesman was trying to accommodate several customers at once, but he did a great job! He couldn't have been nicer and more patient especially considering that he probably just wanted to go home. To go to this store, you have to be willing to spend the time that it takes to do things the old-fashioned way, with the salesperson running back and forth and getting things for you, but if you have hard to fit feet, this is a good option. I needed to let everyone know about the wonderful service I received today when I visited Hawley lane shoes. I have always been told to visit this store since I am nurse and my shoes have to fit well due to long hours we spend on our feet and the associates here take great care in fitting shoes appropriately to your feet. Oh my goodness that is an understatement. Today I was pretty immediately greeted by Nikki, a very lovely, smiling associate. I requested her help with a shield and she very quickly and expertly assessed my footwear needs and steered me to a shoe that was going to be suitable for comfort and function. I was so overwhelmingly surprised by the superb customer service and attentiveness to the customers needs that I had to post this review before I left the parking lot. This had to be the best shopping experience this year, perhaps ever. Bravo to this location that they have such an amazing salesperson like Nikki on their team. Buyer Beware!! If they don't have your correct size, the sales person will make a larger size shoe "fit" by adding insoles (that also add to the cost). This happened to me in the Norwalk store. When I went to purchase another pair of the same shoe at a New Balance store - the shoe fit expert was shocked to see what size/width I was wearing! The Hawley Lane sales guy had put me in a shoe one size too large, and two widths too narrow - but made it all appear to "fit" by adding the "ortho-inserts" - that just took up the excessive space in the wrong sized shoe. $200 and I was out the door assuming I had the correct size. The New Balance professional fitted me correctly. I will NEVER buy anything at Hawley Lane. read more

I have a large size with have feet problems and they not only helped me with shoe choices, they went above an beyond and special ordered a shoe style that they usually do not carry. Then I went to my orthopedist in Milford and he recommened an orthodic. He told me I could order from his office OR I could go where his family goes and that was Hawley Lane shoes.
