I have always received excellent customer service at Hawley Lane at the Orange location. I went in about a month ago and experienced a completely different vibe in the store. Nobody greeted me with a hello. Nobody inquired what I was looking for. I was clear I had a purchase history but they never looked up my account. The salesperson never offered to measure my foot. The sneakers that I wanted were not available in my size in the color that I wanted. We I asked if they could be ordered, the salesperson just said no. A friend also had a similar experience. Waste of time coming here. I was standing around for a good amount of time with a shoe trying to get a size to try on and not one sales associate helped me. They acted like I was invisible. I wanted to try on a pair of work shoes, and probably would've bought them. I put them down a walked out. Now they're out almost $200 because no one would help me. I work in healthcare so I need slip resistant water proof shoes which they barely had any. I wouldn't be surprised if they closed, half the store was completely empty. Hawley Lane Shoes is a horrible racist establishment. I visited the Shelton location. Which is near my home in Shelton. Upon entering this store there were no other customers in the store and approximately 5-6 employees stand around chatting. Not one of them greeted me or asked if they could help. Indeed I walked around the store looking at various sneakers for about 5mins. While their conversation continued as if I was invisible. Once I realized no one was going to assist me or even acknowledge my presence, I politely left. Thinking perhaps it was that particular store. Yesterday I went to the Danbury location as I was in that area at the mall. Upon entering three salespeople were standing around, again with no other customers in the store. One barely acknowledged me and walked away. One disappeared into the back, the other stood and watched as I looked at sneakers but never said a word. Another customer came in and was greater and asked how they could be helped. Still no one asked me if I needed help. A third customer entered & was again greater and the employee who was in the back appeared and immediately ran over to them with greetings and offering to help. AT that moment, the salesperson who had been watching me decided to ask me if I needed help. At that point I was so disgusted, I said NOW you wanna help me and proceed to leave. I am a black woman and every other customer who entered after me was white. I believe the actions of employees in both stores were racially motivated. There is absolutely no other explanation for being ignored. I will NEVER go into this establishments and recommend people of color stay away from them as there seems to be a culture of racism no matter the location. To me this is ignorance at its finest. My money is the same color as everyone else's. If you are so racist that you would be rude to a potential customer, I would not give them one penny. My better half (girlfriend) has been having a challenge in trying to find stylish shoes which yet lend the support she needs to be able to walk, and work in them but yet be comfortable. I can't begin to tell you how many shoe stores we have visited. When you walk in, you must take a number so one of their shoe specialist can personally take care of you. The woman who took care of my gf, was excellent. She listened and was able to explain important features of each shoe. She was patient and helpful. She was not the exception. On the contrary, the other employees were just as helpful. They were patient and offered advice and valuable suggestions. If you have difficulties in finding good shoes which fit comfortably, I suggest you give them a try. read more

My Uggs sleepers were totally destroyed after just two months. I could no believe they give me a hard time for an exchange or a total return for a bad quality. It is no HLS fall for the bad quality but they are responsible for the sale. For now I prefer buying for places with good returns policies as Nordstrom or directly from the website. I know is the quality of the new ones because this is my second pair. After a big back and forth they agree to an exchange but , I should not feel aggravated for asking quality in my $120 sleepers. read more

The Saleswoman who greeted me in the Shelton store did not even try to help me when I described the situation with my foot. She didn't ask me any qualifying questions to try to better understand my needs. She did not measure my foot, she didn't look at me foot, she simply left me saying she was going to get another salesperson. When he came over and I explained my situation again he said I had to see a doctor. I relayed that I had already done this and my foot was deemed structurally fine. He seemed disinclined to try to help me any further as well. I persisted and once he looked at my foot, he identified the problem that was causing my pain and I did find a very comfortable pair of walking shoes. I did not, however, feel welcomed, seen or heard up until that point. I feel the store greatly oversells the services they provide and the attitude with which they provide them. read more

These people know shoes! If you have problems with your feet like me (fractured one foot twice) then this is the place to go! Everyone is so knowledgeable and wants to find you the shoe specifically for you. They listen to your concerns, answer questions, and most of all they take their time finding you the right pair of shoes. They sell what I call investment shoes, so the price might not come cheap. However, after breaking my foot twice and having back issues, I need something super supportive, so I'm willing to pay more. She tried the HOKA shoes on me and they have changed my Life!! waitressing for 32 years and my feet and legs have never felt this great. went back today and bought my second pair! Covid update - I know you guys are thinking of safety concerns, but.... I went here just for the back room to buy running shoes. It's completely closed and cordoned off now. So, my only option was full priced sneakers in the front. BUT, I wasn't allowed to touch them or pick them up to see the price. I waited about 5 minutes for an associate and when the realization hit me that I was looking at $175 sneakers I wasn't allowed to touch, I walked straight out the store to TJ Max across the street where I could try on sneakers to my heart's content. I know you all are scared during this time period and all of us are choosing to shop at places catering to our comfort levels. I simply won't spend money at stores keeping me away from products. This time they lost a customer. There were probably eight employees walking around the store (more employees than customers. I've heard this place is good but there's hardly anything redeeming about it. Managed very poorly with customers wandering aimlessly trying to figure out where checkout is vs pickup vs help. Wow! We've been here only once, but it turned into the best shoe shopping experience we can remember. There are a lot of reasons why. For one, the store is very large; there are many hundreds of shoes for sale in various sections. Second, The staff is marvelously attentive and informed. They know shoes and they are focused on each customer for individual attention (we've never been in a shoe store where the staff helped just one customer at a time). Our helper was Rob, who knew all about fit and styles and gave us excellent recommendations. Third, they have a giant section devoted to sale shoes and misfit shoes (there we found some $100 shoes priced at $15). Fourth, if you;ve got some kiddies, they have a special kids-only place with an interactive dance floor and lots of toys. So what's not to like? Well, the prices are, generally speaking, a bit on the high side, but then they're selling some high-end, really well-made shoes. We spent a lot of money, but we knew we were getting high quality shoes that would wear well. So far, we're right. So, we give our highest recommendation to Hawley Lane - it now is our go-to shoe store, and we couldn't be happier. read more

I have shopped here for myself before to keep me moving. I brought my 22yo yesterday to buy shoes he said he needed. Knee injury exacerbating an existing issue needed more attention. Hawley Lane is my go to! Between orthotic inserts, 3 pairs of shoes, socks and what's two pairs of flip flops when you are dropping a chunk of change! When my boy told me his knee was less pressured and his legs were straight I would have spent 10x more. Thank god some of it is FSA Eligible. No doubt they are considered pricey but THEY ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY! Especially Donna and Amy!!! Never have I been so happy to part with $800 of money that didn't involve Disney! read more

Unlike my experience at the Orange location, this one has excellent customer service with well-trained employees. I went twice recently. The first time, I bought shoes and socks. The young woman who helped me was patient with my size 11 feet! I ony give 4 stars because the shoes I bought were $$$$, on sale. But I need sturdy shoes for standing all day, so be it. The second time, I came back to buy more of the same socks. I tried describing them to the man helping me, even telling him the color and brand. He laughed a little and shook his head, and said, we don't carry that brand! He figured out what I was talking about by asking a few questions and guided me to the right place where I bought 12 more pairs. I went into the store to get waterproof duck shoes. I sat down and was clearly waiting for help. One employee came out of the back eating an apples and just ignored me. Another employee was just strolling around until I had to asked if she worked there. When I explained what I wanted she did not even try to find the shoe nor did she look for one like it. When I asked if they had the shoe and explained it she looked at me like I had two heads and said no. I came here looking for a style of UGG that most other stores don't carry. I spoke with one employee who brought me a different color than I asked for and when I said something about it she said they were out of that color and that they wouldn't get it til next year. I said okay I'll try on the other color that she brought and said she would be back to grab the other shoe (it was on display I think). She never came back with the other shoe and started helping other people so I flagged down another employee, Vanessa, who was so helpful. She grabbed the other shoe, and I asked her about the other color. She offered to call another Hawley Lane store to see if they had it in my size and have it shipped there, and they did! This store is humongous. Shoes, sneakers, and socks galore. If you have arch problems, they have a diagnostic machine to define the problem, and recommend an arch support to help you with it. If you have a prescription from your food Doctor, then they will be able to fill it. The prices are higher than I would like, but you will find what you're looking for. I had a horrible experience at this Hawley Lane Shoe location. I spent over $200 there on ON sneakers and orthotics on April 28th.. in just one month the sneaker's fabric started to fray.. I called the company and they were empathetic and encouraged me to return the sneakers to the store and that I would likely get them replaced.. I immediately drove to the store and spoke to Steve the manager. Not only was she rude, she was dismissive and told me that she could not justify the sneakers should be replaced and told me to come in and see her a manager on Thursday. I returned home and called the company and shared this horrific experience.. the customer service agent apologized and will be replacing my sneakers free of charge. I will never shop at this Hawley Lane shoe store again. 5/31/18 update: I received a call from the owner of Hawley Lane Shoes, Shelton location to inquire further about my experience and to apologize. I thought that was a noble gesture and says a lot about his interest in trying to do right by his customers. He allowed me to speak openly about the horrific experience I had with his acting manager and he explained the steps he is taking to prevent this poor experience from happening with any other customers. Went to this store because it was the closest store that sold Stride Rite shoes. Took our granddaughter for a measurement and new shoes. The salesperson, Bob, was great. He measured her foot, brought out 5 pairs to try, and was very pleasant and professional. if you need a full-service shoe store this is the place. I've been shopping at Hawley Lane Shoes for the past 14 years, since they were in Trumbull. Carol Voytek has always been our salesperson. Last week Carol sold me a pair of Wunderlust boots. I have a wide foot which is difficult to fit, however Carol does EVERY time!!! The boots are FABULOUS!!! They're water resistant leather and there's a barrier to prevent my feet from getting cold. She won't let me try on any shoes that won't work for me!!! If you have difficult feet to fit or just want a terrific pair of shoes or boots, Hawley Lane is the place!!! I had an unfortunate experience today at the Orange location and will never return to Hawley Lane shoes for business, and would recommend that others avoid it as well. My husband got me a $50 pair of shoes for Christmas and I drove 30 mins to the store to exchange them today as they didn't fit right. I was told they were final sale so I could not return them or even exchange them for a different size. Went to look for different types of shoes in the store instead, and was there for 25 min. with not one sales person asking to assist.
