our salesman sold us on a dishwasher that if needed repair they could get service within a day or two as opposed to the alternate brand they delivered the machine on 12/29 with a problem that "they had no idea what to do" and the first device visit was scheduled for 1/19/24. We got a new dishwasher under warranty so the training and install was pretty much the same as we got the same one. There is no question about the skillsets involved but whoever this installer was purely lacks everything else that causes customers to remain customers. The water links in the basement were particularly annoying as it triggered a lot of water cleanup in the basement. Another trivial but nevertheless important is to dispose of the huge box the new washer come in. he fished for compliments on his work at the end which can't be functionally based until we use it. Again technical skills were there but however all the intangibles that make up a customer experience was lacking 100 % When he walks into a customers front door he is Hawthorne even if he is a contractor.............This is a ongoing challenge when stores of all types that contract with 3rd parties for installations don't check for soft skills. I am SO UPSET with Hawthorne Appliances. We order a refrigerator from this company last week. The delivery men showed up yesterday morning, just helped himself into my home, then said there's no way to get the fridge through my doors. He advised me to have the doors removed and will be back at 7am to deliver my ridge. I did as advised and it's now 12:54 pm and still no Fridge..... :( I called the store several times and no answer. Delivery people refused to attempt to install washing machine in laundry room. Even though there was a same-size machine that had to be removed, delivery guy said that we 'must have made the doorway smaller' since the previous washer was installed. Whaaat? So we got a handyman to enlarge the doorway a couple inches. Waited another full day after being told machine was on the truck. Turns out, it wasn't on the truck. Three days later, after being assured that machine would come today, nobody at the store seems to know where the machine is. Salesman will not return our call. Stay away! We purchased 2 sets high end washers & dryers, after a few months one of the washers was inoperable. After over 4 months of back and forth, they finally agreed to replace it. At the point of purchase we insisted that the units going upstairs were carried and not rolled on a dolly, this was no problem when they took our money however when they sent the replacement the sleazy classless third party deliver team refused to carry the washer, so we sent it back. The manager now claims his hands are tied since he has our money. We will be filing a lawsuit and never purchasing from Hawthorne again. Hawthorne is so short sighted they failed to recognize that I am a multi-family real estate developer that purchases 100's of units per year. My salesman from almost a year ago knew I used to buy from Sears but due to their bankruptcy I had to find a new dealer - he's no longer there. I will give you a extreme cliff notes version of a reason to never purchase one item from ABC / Hawthorns. After purchasing many appliances from this company there was issues with the Electrolux refrigerator out of the box from the first day. They wanted to send someone out to repair it instead of replacing it. 5 years later and 30+ repair trips they say it's out of warranty and there isn't anything they can do I should of extended the warranty back in November. Less the 30 days from the first additional warranty I put on it. They are complete hacks that just want to make money off extended warranties. Save yourself the stress and go elsewhere. BEWARE! Sleezy slick lying salespeople. Our refrigerator died in July. All other stores were telling us six or so weeks for delivery. Hawthorne salesman promised us delivery in 10 days. He even showed us on the screen the inventory numbers and got all excited that we would have it so soon. 10 days came and went. We have called every week or so and just been told to wait a teeny bit longer. These guys are either completely clueless about how to find out how long it will take or they are sleazy liars. Every other appliance store was able to give us an accurate estimate. Hawthorne sales team has been dishonest and brushed us off the entire way. When we were called they would just blow us off and tell us to call again in the next week. IT HAS BEEN OVER SEVEN WEEKS! I understand that the GE plant was closed because of coronavirus. The delay in delivery isn't the problem. It's the lying and the terrible customer service. I think it is so unethical to take someone's money and string them along week after week. Not to mention we are a family of four living out of a mini fridge. If we would've known it would've been so long we probably would've purchased a garage fridge to hold us over. But since they kept lying to us week after week we have been unable to make appropriate plans. We have left multiple messages for the manager at this location but I've never been returned. We have called the company hotline and filed a formal complaint. We really like the idea of keeping our money local and supporting a smaller business. I called 1/2 hour before showing up to place my order to see how long it would take for my kitchen appliances. He says 2 weeks. The fridge might take a little longer. (This is the only reason we went with them in the first place) It's now been A MONTH and he doesn't even have the decency to call a paying customer back when we try to get in touch. Where to begin... Have been trying to buy a washer/dryer for 3 weeks, have taken 3 days off of work waiting for delivery installation that is cancelled at the last minute because of mistakes made by sales staff. Terrible follow up and in fact can't get the staff to return your call. Washer and dryer finally delivered today with no installer which was promised, had to go into the store to get an answer as they don't return calls. Installers finally showed up hours later coughing and not wearing masks to tell me that they can't install because they were too large to fit in the installation area - The men were too large, not the washer and dryer... They are sending a smaller person tomorrow? Truly the worst experience I have ever had with any establishment and we have been loyal customers for years. Truly terrible!!!!! read more

Question: How can you tell if a salesman is lying? Answer: If his lips are moving, he's lying. Hawthorne Appliance has been bought by ABC Warehouse. If we had known that before we made our most recent purchases, we would never have done business with these people. They mislead us, manipulated us after the sale and we were fad a constant stream of baloney. I will never buy from them again. When we made our purchases, we told the salesman that we needed delivery/installation quickly because we were expecting out of town guests for a big family event. He assured us that we would get the items delivered and installed within our timetable. Then the day that the goods were supposed to have been delivered, we were called by that salesman that they had been "delayed." This was on a Saturday, the scheduled installation day. He had told me that the goods were in the warehouse and offered installation earlier, but mystically, on that installation Saturday, the goods vaporized. Were they sold to someone else? I really think so, although I don't know that. But read on. After we had set up the installation appointment, the salesman called my home and told my wife that Hawthorne WOULD substitute the store demonstrator. In the industry this is called "Bait and Switch." So I called the store back and refused that. We had seen that the store demonstrator was not functioning properly. The same salesman that assured me that this is done all the time pushed for us to take the damaged goods and I did not let that happen, or so I thought. He said that he would find me another unit quickly and we lost time while he located a unit. So when he magically found one, we rescheduled the installation appointment. What happened to the unit that had been delivered to Hawthorne? I will never really know. The installer brought in a unit that was shrink wrapped on a cardboard tray. It was not in a box. When he unwrapped it, it turned out to have been damaged. Whether this was the reason that my original delivery was delayed is unclear. But the installer could not install the damaged unit. So he called our salesman and they arranged for a replacement. A week or two later, I received a call from the same salesman saying that the replacement unit HAD BEEN DELIVERED and he arranged to have the installer come on the next Saturday. Saturday came, and we waited for the installer to show up. Then we got a call from the same salesman. He told us that the delivery had been delayed and that the unit was lost on a truck coming from Ohio. So I asked to speak with the store manager. He was to call me back. Meanwhile, while I was waiting for that call, the installer called to make sure that we were available so he could install the unit. I told the installer that the unit was somehow lost and that we didn't ever get delivery. He told me he would call the store and call me back. The installer called back and said that the unit had been delivered to the wrong store and that he was unwilling to drive so far to pick it up. So I called the store and asked to speak with the store manager. The store manager suggested that I should drive to where the unit was an pick it up, offering me a tiny discount to do that. I suggested that HE should arrange for the delivery as we had paid for delivery and I told him that I didn't appreciate being manipulated. He told me that he was doing me a favor. He said that he had arranged to delay another customer's delivery by getting the other store to let him have that unit. I told him that I was tired of this nonsense. I I was tired of being manipulated. He didn't seem to understand what I meant. I told him that the salesman had told me that the unit was lost on a truck from Ohio, and that the installer had told me that the unit had been delivered to the wrong store. I asked him whether the salesman had lied to me or if the installer had lied to me. I mentioned that he had suggested that I pick up the goods at the other store, so I had a pretty good idea who was lying. The store manager refused to accommodate me and have the unit delivered. He could not do it he said, the salesman could not do it and my only choices were to pick it up myself, or wait for another installation delay, I reminded him that I could also cancel the order. But in a weak moment, I offered to pick it up myself. We had guests coming from all over the country. I have picked the unit up and I am now waiting for the installer. I do not know if the unit is functional or if it was also damaged in transit, at least not yet. If you want to deal with honest people who value you as a customer and treat you with respect, I cannot recommend Hawtyorne. My first choice was to just order on the Internet. I would have been better off doing that and arranging for my own installation. I would have saved a lot of money and known the real truth throughout the entire process. Caveat Emptor. read more

Not what you would expect when buying high end appliances. We went to Harwthorne to buy a full kitchen set consisting of Sub Zero, Asko and Wolf appliances. Our immediate need was a dishwasher which we purchased and was told would arrive the following week. Of course, I had to call several times in which my salesperson told me "next week" each time. Several weeks later it has still not arrived and no return calls as promised. I plan on writing a letter to the manufactures as I can't believe they want their brands associated with this level of poor service. HMMMM, WHERE DO I BEGIN. After reading EVERY review here- welcome to MY WORLD!! Even the UN recommended ones resonate with me!! I'll repeat just about everyone else's experience below, and have additional comments about my experience with my new WHIRLPOOL DUET WASHER and DRYER from HAWTHORNE on Woodward!! So, to make a LONG story short, after browsing the showroom, (and like most of you have purchased ALL OF MY HIGH END APPLIANCES THERE over the years) for a replacement to my washer-dryer that died over Thanksgiving, I worked initially with EWAN in hopes of finding the perfect pair. I didn't find what I wanted but had some ideas, but because of a time constraint had to leave. Came back a day or so later, asked again for EWAN and got ABU!! his "partner"!! He was slick, and opinionated, and didn't like ANYTHING that I was interested in; instead wanted me to buy the expensive ugly top-of-the-line MAYTAG beast of a washing machine!! I said I'd "come back"... and like so many of you I did my OWN research and found the pair that I wanted for sure- printed out the specs and stock numbers, and basically HANDED THE SALE to Ewan with out any effort on his part.. Paid in full. was told 10 days...Fine. mind you- had three college students for 4 days over Thanksgiving, and 25 of our family over for dinner when my former older appliances tanked. So the day after the purchase, ABU the "partner" calls me on my cellphone and starts yelling at me for buying the things from EWAN his partner!! when I had told him up front that I was working with EWAN all along! He was PISSED about the commission and called me on my cell to tell me that!! WHAT KIND OF BEHAVIOR IS THAT from a salesperson??!! I told him to take it up with his PARTNER on HIS OWN TIME!! So the delivery was ONLY KIND OF TIMELY BECAUSE I CALLED THERE OFTEN ASKING WHEN THE THINGS WERE COMING because the ten days had passed! BUT TODAY (the day of delivery) the washer came, and not it's pedestal.... and then the DRYER came later in the day (but not it's pedestal) and apparently without the proper hoses, vents etc... SO i get a call that Andy the installer will be there in an hour but I HAVE TO GO TO HOME DEPOT AND GET THE MALE ADAPTER FOR THE DRYER VENT!! so when I got to HOME DEPOT, no one there knew quite what i was asking for- so we called EWAN who told me that ANDY WAS AT MY HOUSE RIGHT THEN AND THERE AND WASN'T GOING TO WAIT!!! but wait!!!! I'M the one who had to go get the parts??? WHAT IS THAT ALL ABOUT?? So I said -GET SOME ONE THERE TO INSTALL THIS DRYER AND THAT"S IT!!! and i TOLD him that was the LAST time I will ever call there. That i am DONE with this place- and his "partner" was RUDE AND INAPPROPRIATE in calling me!!! And that my entire family has bought well over hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of things for all of their homes over the past 18 years or so and that is now OVER. And i have agreed with everyone's ONE STAR COMMENTS here, and I NEVER post these kinds of things!! Just left Hawthorne... no one assisted me! There were several sales men talking so I strolled around the entire store. No one said a word until I was a few steps to the door. An older Non-African American woman had just walked in, so it was clearly timing. Sales guy was trying to get to her first. Terrible!!! Why would I spend $20-50k here!? should have read the reviews before I went - paid $40 for delivery and pick up of old TV. Set up new TV - as I have over the air and not cable have encountered multiple problems. On calling the sales person I was informed that some "LOCAL" channels are not strong enough to be received ie channel 2. My old TV never had that problem. The sales person also informed me that I no longer needed a convertor box - well the problem is it is not obvious from the manual where you plug in an antennae - For an additional $60 or more they would be happy to come set up the new TV. I have probably spent over $l0,000 at Hawthorne over the years - so much for shop locally - they are 4 blocks away. WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN. read more

I had an absolute terrible experience with Hawthorne. We ordered a refrigerator, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. They assured us they would be delivered within seven to ten business days. A month later when it was imperative that we have the appliances because our kitchen was ready to be redone non had arrived. We had a very tight space for a washer dryer and our salesman, Bob, figured out how to solve the problem with small scale European machines. Simply horrible. Bought a dryer that took over a week to install secondary to numerous screw ups on their part. Once installed, the dryer made a loud rattling noise and had to have someone come out again, disconnect the gas line and re-intstall a new one. Horrible customer service. Bought a new TV and it was delivered in a week. They gave me the name of installer. I called and he came to install. After he got existing tv off wall and got this one up, he turned it on and it was defective. I called the store, they ordered a new one from local store. It won't be here for almost a week. So no tv until then! In addition, I payed installer $215.00, he will have to come back to install the new one.I asked how the store was going to compensate us for extra installation fees. Was told there is nothing they can do, they didn't make the tv it wasn't their fault. They told me to call Samsung! I always try to order locally and was trying not to go to amazon to buy this item. Hawthorne was extremely rude. I will not be back. Last year alone, I spent $40,000 in appliances there, as I redid a high end kitchen. Trying to request extended warranty service is very complex on a website that doesn't work. After entering a considerable amount of information twice, on two different computers, I received an error message from the website that prevented my application from going through. Then, I tried to send a note to customer service expressing my dissatisfaction with the website and same error message. There is no chat or phone lines that are active for this company on the weekend. There are stores that show much better care for their customers than Hawthorne. read more

I spent over $3000 for appliances and got $2.00 worth of service. The absolute worst service anyone could experience. In addition to the salesman not informing me of a delay in delivery of my refrigerator when he knew I did not have a fridge at all he didn't offer a loaner. When it was delivered, it was the wrong size. I went into the store and complained. He accused me of "lying" about the size of my refrigerator. The correct fridge was delivered today but the delivery men had not been told to remove the old one and did not have the proper equipment to remove the subzero. Am pretty shocked at all the bad reviews. I bought a wolf oven and it could not have been easier. There's no negotiating on Wolf so maybe that's why I didn't have problems. I moved up the delivery day and Andy the installer changed his schedule to accommodate to the different day. He also ran to the store to get parts I needed and registered my appliance because he's a certified installer so I get an extra year warranty. So far no complaints. read more

Terrible customer service...poor quality products Purchased a Frigidaire wall oven, refridgerator and Jenn Air cooktop from Suzanne A. At Hawthorne And took delivery 12-24-11. IN THE BEGINNING Suzanne came across as helpful, knowledgable and very interested in ensuring my purchase would be satisfying. The honeymoon phase ended the moment the cash drawer shut! Upon delivery of my items, I immediately noticed AND notified that my fridge was scratched up. It was Christmas Eve and Suzanne assured me a follow up to resolve the problem right after holidays. Never heard back. Then found out that the Cooktop which was at marked down price was also so outdated, Jenn Air wouldn't even offer warranty service. Which I was never told by the saleswoman. Last but not least, the brand new fridge completely stopped working in just 12 months! Of course it failed exactly at expiration of warranty! When I called my Saleswoman she assured me she would check with her manager to see if anything could be done. A week passed and I hadn't heard a word from her or the company. When I called to find out what could be done, she explained she forgot to call me back! Sales person was very knowledgable and told us everything about the product- except that our appliance was a special order. When I called to find out when we could expect delivery, I was put on hold and transferred from one person to the next. Of the three employees I talked to, the most personable one was simply indifferent, the other two were outright rude. The delay was blamed on the manufacturer but no reason was given as to why they did not contact us to inform us of the additional delay. We will be canceling the order and starting over.
