We go to this location a lot for a quick drop if we run out of something or forget something. Usually it is bags or oil. We also buy the sprays here for deers, bugs, and weed killer. Our fertilizer as well. They always treat us awesome. We walk in with dried up dirt all over our clothes, knees, and arms. They don't care. They treat us with respect. A few times we came in to just use the restroom and they didn't care. I like this location because it is one of the closest to where we work. Once we went to Lowe's instead and regretted it. Their stuff was more expensive there and we felt unwelcome.

27 Cubic ft of organic garden soil and composted manure for garden Box. Lowest cost in area.

I am a big fan of Home Depot which is my go to store for DIY projects, tool purchases and home appliances. The prices are always as low if not lower than the other chain home improvement stores with a large selection of merchandise that cover most home improvement projects you will take on. This chains biggest strengths and what separates them from Lowes and Menards is the knowledge of the associates who run the individual departments within the store and the high end contractor grade tools they carry. The associates who work in the stores by and large have very good knowledge on the processes, tools and product you will need to complete a project and can give you quality guidance on the DIY front. This is particularly true of this store. There is not a week that goes by where I am not roaming the aisles of this store planning my next project or salivating over a new tool. If you're in the Pontiac/Bloomfield area and are looking for material for a DIY project and maybe some technical guidance than this is the store for you.

While of course they do not have the extensive selection as a large big box store, they usually have what I am looking for. Relative to the gold standard for Ace hardware stores in the area the one on Cooley Lake Rd is clearly head and shoulders above this store which you can clearly see not only in their more diverse/expanded product line up but also by the number of customers in the store which is indicative of how good the store is in my opinion. This particular store has all the basics you would expect in this chain but does not seem to have the expanded product offering I am used to seeing. Examples are in power tools where they have some Husqvarna tools in this store but the Cooley lake store has a full lineup up of Stihl 2 stroke power tools to include their 20VDC Battery operated tools as well. Relative to Grills they only offer a few grills at this store where the Cooley lake store has a large lineup of Grills to include Weber and Traegger grills with all the accessories you could ever need. This is just two examples of the product difference. Overall the Commerce store is a decent hardware store that has all the basics like electrical, hardware, plumbing, hand tools, painting ... etc and its definitely worth visiting/shopping here if you are in the area and don't want to travel far to get what you need.

A couple of times I had to make multiple trips in one day. The staff was always professional and helpful, and almost always had what I needed, which is saying a lot since I managed an old 50-unit building that needed a lot of things for a lot of problems. Sometimes I would grab the wrong thing, and it was never a problem bringing it back and exchanging it for the right thing. Sometimes my boss would get a bit behind in paying for it all, and they would gently remind me, and the ol' slumlord would send them a check from Florida. They were cool but firm about it. It seemed to be a situation they'd been through many times before. They have homey touches here - a small tv on the counter that's always showing something. A fridge with Faygo in the can. My favorite thing about 3rd Ave Hardware is the bicycle selection. In the warmer months there's a whole row chained together on the sidewalk out front. Old ten speeds, 70s 3 speeds, cruisers, mountain bikes, etc. But, wait, there's more inside! Another row between the front door and the register and still more up and down the cramped aisles! (3rd Ave Hardware could really use a more spacious locale.) The prices won't break the bank either. I just bought my second bike from there - a green mountain bike from CCM, that Canadian company that makes hockey equipment. It's a pretty sweet bike for $100. My last one was, too. It was an old 70s 3 speed with a big comfy seat and a glistening orange paint job that just looked like candy. Too bad it got ripped off. Oh well, that's life in the D. I won't pack it in, and I'm glad 3rd Ave won't either. I'm only knocking them down one star because of their paint selection. It's lousy and overpriced. Go somewhere else for paint.
