HOW does this happen? I was eating the Yaki Udon which is actually really good. It's not so great when you're eating and you lift up your noodles to find a whole piece of PLASTIC in your meal. Nice Quaint little place, not too big inside probably room for 25 people maximum including the bar. We believe there's one person in the back making sushi and cooking the other dishes and like three others in front one waitress one bartender and one person taking used plates back. The prices are on par with other sushi places but all their dishes served to my 7 person party were exquisite. You could tell they don't usually get groups on a weekday. The poor waitress was flustered at times but did a good job for handling the rare weekday pressure of a group that takes up about half the restaurant ordering appetizers several rounds of drinks and large Entrees . If you have a group of 5 or more you should probably call ahead and reserve their one large table that can accommodate the demand. read more

I was driving through the area on the way back to Boston and was searching for a late dinner. Hayashi came up in the search and has late hours - which was great. We stopped in around 9. The menu had plenty of classic sushi items. It was quick to be seated and served. The sushi was good, not amazing, but certainly up to par. The service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant had music on that was too loud and it was hard to have a conversation. Although they have a good sized bar I was not expecting or wanting to be blasted loud house music over dinner in suburban Easton. Would fully expect that in a club in the city. Ok so.. I would've given this place five stars because the food is really good but the service wasn't up to par. We were sat at the bar where we requested. They have a pretty good sized drink menu but no real bartender? The girl manning the bar said that they only have one on the weekends when it's more busy. Ok, no problem.. we still ordered our drinks thinking she'd know how to make them. She did not. Another woman had to come over and make them but it took quite some time unfortunately. I just found that to be a little weird but no biggie. I also ordered a soda and it was canned soda to my dismay. I would've thought they'd have had fountain soda. I went back to Hayashi after a couple of years. Had my close friends who were looking for sushi and sashimi. Saturday evening . Came in and the limited staff seemed overwhelmed with takeout orders and a full restaurant which is small with limited seating. We told the lady who greeted us that we need a table for four. She seemed to understand. We were waiting at the entrance for about 15 mins. Only then did I notice that around the corner was a bar with patrons seated there. We went to the bar, the other lovely and friendly patrons said that there were three barstools available. We made space, and ordered Bloody Marys. Came from a mix and super spicy. No celery stick. $11 per Bloody Mary. After waiting for more than an hour and half finally got a table. The bartender was also the waiter. He was great and doing his absolute best trying to serve everyone at the bar and waiting tables. The owner of the restaurant DID NOT SEEM TO CARE THAT THE RESTAURANT NEEDED MORE HELP ASAP. Sashimi was very good. Tempura was good. Patrons were very nice. But staff was OVERWHELMED, but trying hard. Hope the Owner gets appropriate staffing. read more

Okay, the food was fresh and delicious here - very tasty! Without a doubt I am tempted to return but only for take-out. The reason is the service is disappointing for dine-in. It took a long time to be helped, items came out very slowly one-by-one. Then the server told us they were out of rice - seriously it was early dinner time and a sushi restaurant that runs out of rice is suspect to me. She then brought two dishes of a sweet rice, must've been sushi rice.?.?- still good though, so why did she tell me they were out? Another lady servicing the bar came over and asked if I wanted more water only to forget about me. Note: Don't take the last bit of water the customer has left if you don't have another drink you are going to replace it with. The original server finally brought my water of course it was at the same time she brought the bill. Also, the server charged me for an extra Miso soup that was never received. So tired of inconsistency in many of the Japanese restaurants in and near Easton. I used to like it here until my last visit. I don't know where to begin so I'll just keep it short. Made to wait extra long to order. Weird taste in a meal that was sent back. They took it off the bill, asked if we wanted another meal, then charged for that meal. I think it would've made me feel better as a customer if they gave us that meal at no charge for the inconvenience of waiting for a new meal after everyone else had finished and for the bad meal that seriously tasted like kerosene! We all tasted it and agreed. I would have given another chance and come back but after that, no thank you. Not feeling valued as a customer at all. The food in general is delicious. Wanted to love it. First of all: The online menu was different than the restaurant menu. Ordered a combo for two that was supposed to come with soup or salad, but we never got those. We also ordered a few other things I was told part of my order was a dessert (I order this frequently since childhood and have never had an issue) instead of just admitting their mistake which was no big deal. Based on the reviews, I was really hoping for a better experience than this one. Maybe mine was a unfortunate exception. My first observation was the limited nature of the menu. No Uni, which didn't surprise me for a suburban place but they also had no fluke. Since it's alternate name is Summer Flounder and we are in August, I was a bit surprised by this one. Yellowtail, Tuna and Salmon do not constitute variety. The second observation was that our server was way too inexperienced to meet our needs. He did not know the menu our even what was available that day. Good sushi is like an experience rather than a meal. It's to be savored and done over time with conversation and friends. After being up my rear end for the better part of our first order, i explained that we were going to take some time before the next round. This had a similar effect as putting a post it note on my forehead that read "IGNORE THE CRAP OUT OF ME!". Seriously, I thought I was being shunned. Anyway, hope he better learns his craft over time. Again, I have a high standard when it comes to Sushi so please take the rating with a grain of salt. They are in a good location and there are limited choices in the area. That being said, the fact that you're not Japanese doesn't give you license to do bad sushi. Suggest they spice up their roll menu and embrace the Korean Fusion potential. I wasn't going to write this publicly on Yelp, but I emailed the business about my takeout experience and I have yet to hear anything back days later. On Friday, the sushi craving hit hard. I ordered takeout here for the first time, a tuna maki roll and chicken teriyaki bowl. I called my order in at 5:54, and I left the restaurant with my food at 8:05. I was quoted 45 minutes on the phone last night, arrived at said time and then waited another hour and 15 minutes in the parking lot for the food to be ready. I understand the current situation and I was delighted to be eating sushi.. but this was really an unacceptable wait time. I called to check in after I had been waiting outside for an hour, and the girl who was handling takeout orders was very short with me and seemed annoyed that I was calling. I live nearby, LOVE sushi and Asian cuisine and would love to try you guys when you open back up. There were multiple other customers waiting a long time- TOO long for their food! Hayashi may look new and fancy but their quality and service is the same, cozy restaurant I've always known. Hayashi never fails to satisfy my sushi cravings. Their fish is always fresh- none of that overly fishy taste like other places. Even their non-sushi aka cooked items like the chicken wings and hamachi collar are delish! I've had a few rolls (sunshine maki, crazy maki, and salmon naruto) and they've all been good. The plan is to try a different one each time I visit. I'm a big salmon fan so I can vouch for the taste, texture, and quality. My friend is also a huge sushi fan and this is our go-to place. We get the boat if we're in a big group. Good assortment and hearty slices. Droooool. Remember: when in doubt, trust the chef. Get the sushi and sashimi combo and you'll leave full and happy. They also have quite a few non-sushi items, meaning I could convince my father in law to join me for lunch. We both started with the spicy dumpling soup. It was chock full of lots of different types of veggies along with egg and beef dumplings. The soup was delicious with enough of a kick and a great melding of flavors across the veggies and the dumplings, which themselves were quite good. It was a nice way to start out the lunch. My father-in-law ordered pad thai, but I was there for sushi. It took me a bit to decide, but I ordered Hayashi Dragon Maki, the Volcano Maki, and an order of salmon belly sashimi. The Dragon Maki was a large roll consisting of tempura shrimp that was topped with eel and avocado. It was a pretty basic roll with no exotic flavors added, but it was delicious in its simplicity. The eel had a great flavor, the shrimp had a light tempura, and the avocado finished it off nicely. The Volcano was a bit more exotic. It had spicy tuna maki topped with spicy mayo, grilled scallops, and tempura flakes, and it was built up to look like a volcano from a presentation standpoint. It was served hot and really felt less like sushi and more like a standalone seafood dish. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't my favorite, and I am not sure I would order it specifically again. The salmon belly sashimi was amazing, extremely tender and full of flavor. It was a nice way to finish off my lunch. The restaurant is extremely small, and we came after the main lunch rush. Even so, there was only one table available when we arrived. Ordering and food arriving at the table happened quickly, and in general the service was great. The pricing seemed a bit high for the sushi items in my opinion, as I have certainly had much better sushi at the same price point. I can't say enough about Hayashi! This place is an absolute goldmine. From the food to the service, it's 5 stars all around. The owner, John, really works so hard to make your experience a positive and extremely sanitary one. My husband and I always order several different rolls to share and their steamed pork gyoza - delicious! Their fish (especially the salmon) is always fresh and melts in your mouth. This place get 5 stars because they did something special, they let me create my own roll and it was better than I imagined and did I mention that I had the best tuna tataki EVER? (just saying) Now for the details... the specialty maki menu is small, like the restaurant. However, since the quality is superb and they are willing and more than able to create whatever you would like there's no problem. I started with the cold saki, mmmm, think of cool, light, melon, yummy buzz and the tataki - awesome. Then I got the shrimp tempura maki (came with all the fixing cucs, avocado, you know where I'm going) so I asked them to add some tuna to the top of the roll. I've had both take out and dined in and am so happy with Hayashi! THIS is what I was missing when I moved out of Quincy. All the food is fresh and delicious, and they have some options that are a little bit different from every other sushi restaurant. I highly suggest reading the special items posted on the walls and trying something new. I only have 2 complaints: 1--the restaurant is on the smaller side, so it may be tough to get a seat on a popular evening. 2--the spicy salmon isn't spicy enough. I wonder if it's due to them using a chunk of salmon rather than dicing & mixing it with the spicy mayo. I like having the bigger piece of salmon, but you need to up the amount of mayo so I can actually tell it's not just a basic salmon roll. Quality ingredients done just how you want, courteous staff, wide delivery area, perfectly sized menu, and I've never seen anyplace do sushi so FAST- order all you like and I'd be surprised if it takes more than 25 minutes. It's a quaint cute little place. We enjoyed the sushi tuna and salmon combo for two, miso soup, a bento box with tuna maki, tempura, salad, and fried beef gyosa. We looked at the price of glasses of wine and opted to get the whole bottle of plum wine. She brought out the 2 wines so we could sample it before getting the whole bottle. I have several co-workers who dine at Hayashi once a week for the fresh sushi and Japanese & Korean inspired dishes. I absolutely LOVE this place and I think it's one of the hidden jewels of the south shore. The restaurant itself is just a hole in the wall with only a handful of tables and the ambiance is just ok. But be prepared to be blown away by delicious appetizers like the Shumai dumplings or entrees like the Bulgoki Don (marinated korean beef) are excellent. We had a vegetable roll with spinach, a "crazy" roll, the nigiri special (18pce), spicy tuna roll, and I may be forgetting one. But they were all just ridiculously good to be in this tiny shop in a strip mall in Easton, next door to a dry cleaners. Rumor had it that the same family owned both establishments, but I can not confirm that, just word of mouth. This is a great little place - I'm pleased to have a reason to go here! Hayashi is an amazing establishment that I was thoroughly impressed with when it was recommended by a friend who lives in the Easton area. Living in Boston, I am surrounded by many options for Sushi, and I'll fully admit I have not ventured towards them. I can't explain this, as I love Sushi and could literally eat varieties thereof every day and not get sick of it. I suppose it's the fact that most of the people I mingle with don't enjoy it, but I digress. The Sushi at Hayashi is the best I've ever had. This doesn't mean it's the best, but it is the best that my intermediate-level (I'm no Sushi expert by any means!) Sushi palate has encountered. In terms of freshness, flavor, presentation...you name it, Hayashi takes their Sushi VERY seriously. I intended to Order Uni, but they didn't have it on the day I went. That was a bummer, but it doesn't detract from their rating because the Spicy Tuna and Eel Maki I had were outstanding. The Spicy Tuna (a mainstay Sushi of mine, it's the one flavor I will almost always get) was very fresh, and the addition of tempura vegetables - or what I believed to be tempura vegetables - added a nice subtle texture to the rolls. I honestly thought whatever gave the Maki that subtle crunch would've been a detraction, but it was anything but. The Eel was delicious, and given the fact that I've found Sushi places that REALLY botch Eel, this was a major mark. I also tried the Japanese pickle Sushi, which was different and adventurous yet not overwhelming. The menu is extensive, catering to those who may not want their Sushi fix. A person with me got the Pad Thai, and it was very well done. It was pretty amazing to see such a variety of Asian dishes on the menu - at many Sushi places I've been it's Sushi or nothing. Hayashi seems to excel in many areas, and the fact that it doesn't result in mediocre Sushi is a testament to the staff. The waitress we had was very kind and appreciative of the fact that I was having a Sushi-gasm with every bite. I can only hope she realizes my praise was in no way ingenuine, every word was well deserved! The ONLY issue with this place is it's location, and arguably, it's size. The size is arguable because it is tiny and intimate, but when I say tiny, I mean tiny. It's location essentially makes it a 'hidden gem' of Easton. I can only imagine the business Hayashi would do if it were on Commonwealth ave, it would be unreal. That said, sometimes a breakneck rise leads to a meteoric fall, and I wouldn't want Hayashi to suffer such a fate. If it's location and it's size allow it to operate the way it does, I'll gladly take the delicious Sushi in trade for a trip to Easton once in a while. I cannot recommend Hayashi enough for those who enjoy Sushi, and look forward to dining there again soon. read more

Nice little hole in the wall near my work. I have had both sit down meals here as well as take out. Sushi is good, I've also had their beef ramen noodles and the shrimp pad thai. The beef has a unique seasoning to it which i liked and the pad thai was a little different than what you would normally expect so i would leave that dish for the Thai restaurants and just stick to the Japanese stuff here. **Note** I've been here twice for lunch specials and their menu and website says a choice of salad or miso with lunch specials, the first time i didn't get either one with my meal, the second time i ordered take-out and asked about it, the woman on the phone said it didn't come with my dish (pad thai lunch special) so i mentioned that their website says it does and so she finally agreed and gave me the miso soup... for $11 lunch special you would think it should come with something. Amazing service! Such good help and advice... They serve very unique hot green tea (See picture) is made with roasted brown rice which adds a unique RARE flavor... Very good and fun. The snow mountain roll was recommended as their most popular and I don't like mayo but it was still VERY good to me. The spicy tuna (that I order everywhere I go) is very good. Nice heat and well balanced on the smooth creamy side. Tuna tataki has some dried onion and wonderful ponzu sauce---I highly recommend it!! Wow...this place is a must try!!
