Wife and I were looking to try a new sushi place and we found Shino. After looking at the menu, which is really exciting BTW we decided on a few apps and some rolls. We started with the grilled edamame, and the pork belly buns. Both were great, 1st time with grilled edamame. I would have like a little heat for the Pork belly but really good. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and the Toro- Pena. Both were good, but the Toro was fantastic! My wife ordered the steak & potato roll, think sweet potato roll with steak on top. She loved it! Service was quick and pleasant and the inside was nice. It wasn't very busy as we like to eat early. I will say the only thing we didnt like was the menus had a lot of stains on them and dirty. An optical illusion, and a good one at that! Located in a pretty ugly strip mall in Easton, and next to a Trump store, Shino is very unassuming until you walk in. It reminds me of Sushi Bars in lower Manhattan; to the nines! Big, airy, clean, and a wonderful staff. Sashimi... my favorite. You've got to try their Sea Bass. One of my new favorite things. A white fish, delicious and very seldom found in other Sushi Bars. Prices are outstandingly inexpensive too. Parking can be a bear, because of the Mexican restaurant adjacent to Shino. read more

I came here for lunch with my fiancé and his mom while we were in the area for the holidays. The space is sleek on the inside (though on the outside it's just a strip mall) and a decent size, with a sushi bar area to sit at. Coming from New York where there are plenty of sushi options at high and low end spectrum, I admit that I was skeptical about a sushi place in the suburbs, but I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed by this place. I ordered the foie gras sushi special, which was slightly torched on top of a bed of what I think was sweet potato strings. Very flavorful and worth a try. I also ordered a rainbow roll and the lunch box special sushi don, which came with 6 pieces of salmon sashimi on top of a bed of rice. The lunch box special comes with miso soup and salad as well. My fiancé ordered the sushi/sashimi lunch special and the sushi lollipops, which were a large portion and had beautiful presentation. His mom ordered the maki sushi lunch combo, which was a lot of food. The price for these was excellent and the fish was extremely fresh. The reason for docking a star is because they were not knowledgeable about gluten allergy and made several mistakes in that front. The server seemed to understand gluten and noted that the lollipops had ponzu sauce so they substituted it for gluten free soy sauce. But, then the server ended up bringing miso soup and the salad for my fiancé with the sauce and forgot that it had gluten in it. He also brought a shrimp tempura as one of the sushi lunch pieces and had to take it back and bring a non-fried version. These mistakes lower the place for those of us who dine with people who have celiac because it generally lowers the confidence that everything else is safe to eat for gluten intolerant people. They do however have gluten free soy sauce which is a plus. We would definitely come back again, the lunch boxes are a great deal. I'm not sure I'd ever try to omakase at $100 per person (seems excessive for the suburbs). read more

Just ate here with my family. I used to love this place; my old review can prove it. I so badly wanted to give them the benefit of doubt after my partner begged me to just give them a try again after not having been here for a while. The waiters and waitresses here all treat you like you're a nuisance for just being there. Two of them were just dressed in dirty black hoodies and ripped jeans, and whenever we asked or said thank you for anything, they gave us weird zombie grunt answers. Didn't get so much as a hi, my name is ____, or a how are you, or any semblance of enthusiasm to be serving. We ordered several pieces of nigiri a la carte, the chef's choice sashimi and sushi combo, the lobster rangoons, and maybe two specialty rolls. The nigiri rice was not seasoned at all, the fish on top was lukewarm, and some of them were not edible because the thick fish tendons and bones were left in there. The sashimi from the combo were frozen. I mean my cousin bit into the salmon and the maguro and it was literally icy. Lobster rangoons had hardly any lobster in them. Might as well call it cream cheese bombs. They raised their prices - even with the little amount of food we got, it was $250. Two orders of octopus sashimi were almost $15 (any order of sashimi which is two pieces has an additional surcharge of $4 per order). How are you going to charge these prices that match top places in Boston with this laughable quality of food? For whatever reason the green tea tasted fishy. We were the only table there tonight. It's not like they were busy. I should have listened to the bad reviews before me. I don't know what happened to Shino; I used to really like them so much. Hidden gem in South Easton. Came here with family on a Thursday's night. Made a reservation to be sure that we have a table for 8 top. Came on time and was seated right away. The ambience is very welcoming and charming. The food was sooooo good. Everything we ordered was very tasty and well balanced. Food presentation was great as well. I didn't have time to take photos of all the food that came out because my family couldn't wait. Every dish that hit the table was almost immediately gone. Minus one star for service. There were 2 busters and 1 server. I understand restaurant was busy but server could have been a little more attentive. Busters weren't knowledgeable at all. Still tip even though we were ehh about service. Please tip your servers at least 20% unless they were reallllly bad. Bad as in you had to go get your own food from the kitchen. If you don't like to tip then just do take out. Be kind to people. End judgement, I will dine here again soon. read more

Beyond disappointed. Been going to Shino for years. Ever since they lost their manager; things have gone downhill. The service was beyond terrible. There was one waiter serving the entire dining room, and one bus boy. The bus boy was working his second shift and busting his butt. At first; I had sympathy for the waiter, I thought he was overwhelmed with the volume, however he was observed standing at the host stand talking to the host while the sushi bar was lined with orders. Some people were yelling requesting their money back, while others simply got up and walked out, one couple had patiently waited over 2 hours between courses! I'm assuming it was the own who came out and had to intervene, he ended up rectifying all the orders and ensuring everyone was served their drinks. We really loved this place. Our server was really gracious and provided some really nice recommendations for us to try out this place. This is not your regular Japanese place, they really go out into contemporary and fusion cuisine to try amazing new plates with different outside the box ingredients. Our first plate was the Kassel Salmon that came over a long stick with fire drizzled under it, so that you could decide if you wanted it raw or more cooked. We then went with the Po'Boy that had large shrimp on top of the Makimono with a crunchy and savory sweet flavor. The crunchy had a hint of mango that made the taste more tropical and transport you to another place, which was really cool. Lastly, we had the Toro and Truffle, which provided us with the fatty part of the Tuna with a delightful truffle on top. All of what we ate tasted EXCELLENT. The ribs were a little colder than I like my food served. Based on service I assumed they sat for a bit. They ran out of wagyu beef two hours before service ended. Service had long paused in between. Not too much checking in unless they brought our food. Was seated right away ( no wait on a Friday is very rare in the city at most places ) Our order came out pretty quickly and tasted really fresh - from the salmon to toro, everything was really good like a high class sushi restaurant but at a very reasonable price. I came in last week for dinner with my husband, and as I am walking into the dining room, you can clearly see a sushi chef who is sitting down with no shoes on and picking his nose while on his phone... I wouldn't want that in my food if I was you. This place has a set of new staff every time I come here to dine in. The restaurant at most had about 4-5 tables but it seemed that everyone around us were getting their food before us! The server did not once check up on us or update us on our food. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited for our food, but at one point it took about 30 minutes just for my appetizer to arrive. Then onto the sushi - I have been getting the "chef's combo" any time I have the chance to come here and it usually comes under ice but the past few times I have came, it just looked like a typical sushi and sashimi platter with nothing else on it (definitely not worth the $43). Not to mention, the sashimi pieces don't come in a whole! I would just hope that I was spending $200+ for better service, food, and cleanliness of the place. Will not be back. read more

This is not a Japanese standard restaurant that requires stringent guidelines for preparation and handling of raw and cured seafood. I ordered ikura, salmon roe. The eggs were frozen and defrosted multiple times making them pasty and unpalatable. I decided that it was not worth the risk to save $60 and be sick so I discarded the scallops and yellowtail. This shabu-shabu-ish delight melts in your mouth. Steak and potato maki- think sweet potato bird nests on top of a steak roll. Delectable. Beef nigihama- the asparagus, the tenderness of the meat, balance of scallions. Sauce was perfection. Balanced. Pork belly buns- soft, pork crisp, cucumber refreshing. Crab croquette- a baseball. A wonderful baseball with crab, mushrooms, the crispness of the Pablo breadcrumbs. The salmon skin presented on a lemongrass rack hanging like a rug over flambé coffee beans soaked in goodness. The sushi and sashimi combination. presentation was delectable. Sweet ebi, hamachi, salmon, white tuna, and the list goes on and on. Even the dessert was to die for. Lemon bars had that sweet and tart dimension. Vanilla, strawberry and chocolate mochi, kumquat creme brûlée. Szechuan Buzz Buttons - edible flower that is served with a shot called a buzz bud shot. This is a super late review for this restaurant. I've been here a free times already and finally had the chance to review it. Service: Welcoming and attentive. When you walk in you're greeted by a warm welcome and friendly vibe. My drinks were never empty and I remember my first time there the owner threw in a dish on the house for us to try. Food: My friend and I opt for the Omakase option. Did not regret! Suggestion for future visitors, sit at the bar and order Omakase. The sushi chef Billy is amazing and his boss is even more awesome. Probably the best sushi place that has authentic standards. After a trip to japan, I cant help but put my sushi standards much higher considering the tuna tastes so different from the US and Japan. What they have to offer is quite up there and I was more than satisfied. We ordered 3 or 4 different types of tuna and they were all phenomenal especially the fatty ones. However the only reason why I didnt give this a 5 star because their "cheaper" sushi tastes very similar to what you'd have in an ayce standard. Not sure about anything except the food because it was take out. With that, one of the best pieces of meat ever tasted in the ramen. It was a piece of pork that was as flavorful as a really flavorful piece of duck. *TL;DR: I really wanted to love you Shino! That said, extremely disappointing service (read: we waited 30 minutes for just water and around an hour and 15 minutes for our food: 3 sushi rolls), good food. Unfortunately not worth a trip from the city. I was astounded by the quality of sushi from what seemed to be an unassuming strip mall but I've returned two times more and since realized that good sushi is not worth the trip due to their total and utter lackluster and almost neglectful service. Service: I don't want to harp so I'll try to keep this short. We've always received very little attention from the moment we step through the door and there seems sometimes to be confusion around what tables are open even when they're not full. What we have received? Attitude when we ordered, empty cups through most of our meal, no water refills, a scavenger hunt map (I wish, it'd have made it easier) to find our waitress to little avail...seriously you just have wait for them to decide to appear, and lastly but probably most importantly, a 30 minute wait for water and a 1 hour and 15 minute wait for 3 sushi rolls. (insert man blinking meme) Okay onto the better things... Food: Sushi is good and maybe one of the best for the area we live in, hands down. The chef special/deluxe is a fun way to try something new but they also have a variety of different rolls both common and some special! The ramen while also good however, I suspect has MSG due to a consistent and dire thirst I normally have after having it. Their hokkaido (?) scallop app is really delicious! Ambiance: Modern and clean. For a date night it'd be great barring the terrible service that we have experienced the multiple times we've been. I really wanted to love you Shino! Randomly stopped by here for dinner. We ordered the okonomiyaki as a starter. It took a good 10-15 mins for it to arrive. The flavor was there. Then my fiancés entree came like 10 mins later. He ordered the Uni Don. I was still waiting for my entree, the curry pork katsu. My fiancé finished his entree and mine still hasn't arrived. The waiter said 2 mins ... nope that was a lie. Finally my entree came like 28 mins later. We asked why it took so long, they said they were busy. But we saw a couple who sat down after us maybe 20 mins later get their foods quicker! What caught us off guard was the strip plaza was valet only when we stopped by for dinner on a Friday evening. Never seen that before. We're not the type that would not mind other people driving our cars so we turned out and looked for parking else where. I wasn't expecting Boston dining prices in a suburban town. Since it was Boston prices then I was expecting Boston quality and level of service. There were no special fishes from the sea. Omokase was was $100/pp. If you are local to the area, it makes sense that this is the go to spot for Japanese cuisine. If you're not local, I don't see the value. We did drive an hour out of Boston to check out the hype. Not same level as O-Ya, Nobu or Morimoto. Douzo or Fyugaku can blow this spot away. The service was a tad lacking. Japanese food can be saucy so there can be a drip here and then when transferring food to personal plates. They don't clean the table of minor spills. I pulled out my Lysol wipe to clean the center of the table to remove the eye sore. Don't bother with the Ramen if you are a Regular at the Boston/Cambridge ramen joints such as Pikaichi, Santouka or Yume. The broth is not similar. It was highly enhanced with white pepper. If it's convenient for you, this place is worth the drive. It's a bit overpriced for what it provides. Otherwise, stick with your local Japanese spot since there's nothing to special/unique to make a special trip to dine here. read more
