We ordered the yellowtail jalapeño appetizer and I thought that the yellowtail weren't fresh at all ... the flavor of the ponzu sauce was on point but the fish was of terrible qualify. I called an order in today for sushi and waited the allotted time before I left work to come pick up, no order has been placed. This is the second time this is happened to me and it makes me sad because I do love the sushi. But if you're going to be in the middle of the medical district, please get someone who is responsible for answering the phone that can keep up. The new Hayashi location is fabulous. I don't think we will go to the old location with the hibachi grills very often since this location is open. They do not have the sit down and watch them cook hibachi grills here. They have more sushi options and more noodle dishes and appetizers. Our waiter was really happy to have his job and very attentive to our needs without being overbearing. The atmosphere is extremely clean and sleek. They redid the whole building after Bless Your Heart closed. The sushi bar is visible and looks very clean and cold, making me feel confident eating sushi in the LBK. I also really appreciate the low lighting and all around style. They do have a bar and I think this place will be open for a very long time. Came and it was completely empty, missed the lunch specials by 30 minutes unfortunately. My boyfriend got the chicken fried rice and I opted for sushi and got the angel wings roll minus the avocado. It was amazing! I recommend getting the eel sauce on the side so there's more of it to dip your sushi in! It was great, I'll definitely be back to try more rolls but I'll probably get it to go next time. read more

The food at a regular table is the same as what you get at the habachi minus the show. I got the steak but it was cooked a bit more than I would have preferred. read more

Sadly, this place didn't live up to our expectations. We visited from Dallas. We went about 5 pm and it was pretty slow. Our waiter didn't bring my soup and salad that came with the entree but brought my wife's. About 10 min later he brought our entrees and I asked if I could get my soup and salad. He argued that it didn't come with it and then came back and asked if I still wanted it because he was wrong. Then we were charged $5 for getting fried rice which seems a little much considering we weren't even told about the up charge. Our server was having issues with the table beside us, too. Had to take there drinks back because he brought the wrong item. Then had to return the main entree because of a food allergy that was mentioned to him earlier. He also forgot soup and salad as they asked for where it was when the entree came out. Maybe it was just a server issue this night but it wasn't cheap and don't think I would chance it again. read more

I had high expectations for them. Location was good and easily accessible. With that being said all the fish was fresh and the service was excellent. The sushi was overpriced for the quality of fish it was, however, it was still pretty good. I had the nigiri/sushi which was the fish over rice. I had all their tuna/salmon options. I was sad they were limited in those choices, as opposed to having more options such as tuna belly, or salmon belly, or even different tuna options such as blue fin tuna. This probably the best japanese steakhouse and sushi in town. I went there and order gyozas for appetizers. The menu is very extensive. I could not make up my mind to choose the food. Well we decided for nabeyaki udon soup and also some lychee sake. Soup was deliciuos and I enjoyed it very much. Soup was very tasty and was prepared just like in the streets of Japan. Love this place! The service, the food, the ambiance- everything is perfect! I love their West Texas roll, Alaska roll, and vegetable fried rice. I've had a few other rolls that were really good, but these two are my favorites! If I'm alone, I just have a seat at the bar. The bartender is awesome! Friendly and at tentative. The chef always comes out of the back to ensure everyone is enjoying their dishes, too, which is thoughtful. Great place! This location outshines the 82nd location!!! It is never crowded, staff is hyper friendly, environment is classy yet low key & well the sushi is just simply YUMMY!!!! The West Texas roll is a divine treat with crab, shrimp tempura, cream cheese & melts in your mouth inviting you to eat the entire platter... I have not tried one thing which I I would not highly recommend. Very clean as well & I am looking for a downfall & have not found one yet to date. Not at all impressive. It's obvious that the staff has absolutely no pride in the location. We were seated at a table with multiple water spots contrasting the dark wood from setting dishes that were not dry on the table before we arrived. Although it was not a major problem, the experience continued downhill. A nearby table sat uncleaned for a while before a server tended to it by simply wiping to the floor all of the rice and snow peas the children seated there previously had strewn on the table. He then left the mess on the carpet near another table. The design of the location was a bit odd as well. One table was seated directly next to the exit like an emergency exit row on a 747 (guess where I was seated) leaving you subject to the chilly air as customers make their way by you to leave. There is also a corner booth with only one side available because it was crammed haphazardly into a corner. The disposable plastic salt and pepper shakers were a nice complement to the plastic bowls and utensils but contrasted sharply with the attempt at classy decor otherwise present. I wasn't certain what to expect from the experience, but once I saw the prices, it was obvious this was intended to be an upscale dining experience. The food was mostly terrible. I ordered hibachi steak and chicken. Although the steak had a good flavor indicating it had actually been flame-grilled, it also had an unappealing aftertaste from an unappealing marinade. The chicken was exceptionally dry and had obviously suffered the effects of freezer burn. The rice was dry as well and had to be doused in soy sauce to even be palatable. The vegetables did offer more variety than other places in town. I cannot comment on the clear broth the menu said was included with my entrée as it never arrived. The server was mostly attentive and adequate. Overall, at over $50 for two people, I cannot see why anyone would choose this restaurant with the abundance of other options in town. I did not score one star because I expect the sushi may be better, but other issues were a detriment to the experience. Other than the close proximity to Texas Tech, there is no reason to choose this location, and it is certainly not worth bypassing closer alternatives. read more

There are many sushi options, and also bento box and hibachi options. Lunch prices are especially reasonable. There's also an option where you can make your own sushi. The tempura was excellent. The food here is A+. This location and the Quaker&82nd one are the only ones I trust to serve good quality sashimi. The rolls are creative and delicious. The Samurai roll is a favorite, but really you can't go wrong with any of their special rolls. The fried rice is top notch too; my husband orders it every time. We've also done take out a few times and they pack the food well, it's always ready on time, and it's just as good eating it at home!
