Went with family from out of State for my wife's B-Day. Called to get reservation and they said it wasn't needed. Got there and were seated immediately. Ordered drinks and noticed that it was very hot inside, at first thought it was the open flames. Asked the server to turn up the air and he told us the A/C was down! I asked why nothing was said when we called and he couldn't answer. They should not have even been open it was so hot, all about the $$ not the guests. We already got our drinks so figured we might as well order. My wife and daughter has serious food allergies and they told the waiter in advance. Their meals had to come from the kitchen because of their allergies and we were almost done with our meals and asked about theirs and the waiter had not placed the order. When the food came out my wife's had allergens that they were told about and had a reaction so I had to take her home. The bill ended up over $500 since 18% tip was added. The server was terrible and food was wrong on my wife's b-day. Six drinks cost $20/drink on top of everything else. Since I had to take my wife home I wasn't able to argue the bill and conditions so it was just paid by my daughter using my card. I will NEVER go to this p[lace again and highly recommend avoiding at all costs, which are extremely high! read more

Food was ok overall, 3 stars because the Chirashi I ordered was extremely disappointing. This was not really a chirashi and more a few pieces of sashimi surrounding a plate with a cup of rice in the middle. Had I known this was their version of a "chirashi" I would have ordered rolls and nigiri and maybe some sashimi. I have had Chirashi all over the world and this is the most disappointing one I have ever had. They claim 15 various pieces of fish, but it was just a few types of fish with multiple pieces of each and nothing of any real variety. A few pieces of tuna, salmon a few pieces of eel a few pieces of white fish etc. No shrimp, no tako, no tomago, no fish egg, no squid no variety and no care in preparation. No wasabi or ginger. I wish I had taken a picture to show. The fish was not even on the rice, but rather spread around the outside of the plate and a cup of rice with furiyaki seasoning on top in the middle. I was looking forward to the meal however, there were some things that were not to my taste and others that was good. The good is that I enjoyed the spring roll as an appetizer. Did not like the roll sauce. The fried rice was not the best. Did not like the salad dressing at all. I saw many people not eating the salad. You may want to consider changing salad dressings. The food was just bland and the preparation of the food was not the best either. I observed the cook was "slap-sticking" the food together to just to quickly get us in and out. I felt rushed. But never fear. just go on down to 19th street location and get great hibachi, same menu with a few added things. It may not have hibachi grills but I give chefs kisses. Train the staff, get the old management back and make sure the cups and plates are clean before giving them out. Ohh and the silverware.... It looked like it had just been used, the handle was gross. Since it was Christmas Day today, hardly anything was open in Lubbock of course and I was happy to see that Hayashi was. However, after waiting 45 minutes in the parking lot for my call in to-go order, I finally went inside to pick up my food to pay and learned that their "tap" payment was not working for debit card payment. I had to call my parents to get my debit card number to manually enter and pay (I will take partial blame for this because I should have had my debit card on me as backup). I had ordered the Steak & Shrimp w/ Vegetables... whenever I arrived back home to Levelland to enjoy my food, I opened up the box to see that my order was completely wrong. They gave me TWO pieces of broccoli and no other vegetables and ONLY gave me Steak with NO shrimp. Furthermore, I was charged $26 dollars for this plate which is ridiculous. I will NEVER visit this establishment again due to this mistake, very unfortunate. read more

We for birthday with family. While hostess entire staff was friendly, the food was subpar. I will put blame on new cook learning his job. Had to recook steaks and be told chicken was still uncooked when he was getting ready to put on plates. Once all that was correct everything went smoothly. But my biggest complaint, I believe to be a health code violation is ALL the cooks have a knife sheath on and use it to cut raw chicken put back in holder, take out again (same knife) and cut raw beef and vegetables, then replace without cleaning. I'm pretty sure the inside of the sheaths are a bacteria growth and very unsanitary. Kinda puts food off to watch this from all of them. read more

We went for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon arriving around 11:45, there was no waiting and only one Hibachi table seated. The hostess was extremely rude upon entering. She hatefully stated that our small party would not be seated until all persons were IN the building, which is understandable, and I told her my husband was parking the car, would be here shortly and she said very loudly... "Well, you will just have to wait!" No one was in front of or behind us at the time. I didn't mind waiting but her attitude was not acceptable. My husband arrived about a minute later and we were seated immediately. No words were spoken and she returned to the front door. This was a very bad first impression and we considered leaving but had good service in the past and decided to stay. Our waitress Lorah A. was outstanding! She took our orders very quickly and the food was brought out in a very timely manner. The cook was a great, making conversation with every person at the table. The food was good for the price, however part of my fried rice had several large clumps of cold rice mixed in that we're not edible. There was plenty to eat and we still had leftovers to take home. Overall a good experience but the hostess at the front door needs an attitude adjustment. I'm still looking for a decent sushi place in Texas. Being in the Lubbock area went here because it was close to our previous place we were at. The sushi was ok, I mean, it wasn't over the top amazing. The issue I had was service and staff. Our waiter was just horrible, like he was burdened that we came in. He never even tried. Took the order and walked off, but he never came back to refill anyone's drinks. Dropped off food and kept setting on edge. There is plenty of open area, but nope, let's put minimum effort in. Then, to top it off he forgot part of the order. It's the little things that add up. If the sushi, sashimi, and rolls that we got were great, then I'd probably give it another chance, but the price you pay this in not going to happen. Realizing there are other places better rated. Lesson 1, don't go for the convenience of location. Go off the reviews, and as we can see, we are not the only ones that have issues here. read more

Went with the wife, they were on a wait for a table so we sat at the bar. Service was great and food was good. I think there was a new sushi chef because he didn't make the skinny roll correctly. Would have given it a 5 but the staff took breaks on the sushi bar next to me. One individual kept hitting his fists on the sushi bar making the whole thing shake beneath me. A bearded chef came out of the hot kitchen to complain that people were still being seated when they close in an hour. I know I hear this all the time in the kitchen but to have it come out of the dining room is awful. They don't realize that the guests pay their bills. Needless to say I didn't offer anyone a job, the bartender/ waitress was actually good and attentive but when I spend almost $200 for two people for sushi and a steak and a few drinks I don't expect to hold my plates from shaking with each fists blow nor listen to cooks and staff complain about the guests they "have" to serve. Tip for the manager, stop letting them take breaks at the sushi bar, they talk bad about guests tipping and being demanding. And absolutely keep the bearded chef out of the front of house unless you want to promote him to customer, which is what I would have done if he worked for me. And for the guy who slams his fist on the sushi bar and touches the other team members inappropriately, your an HR nightmare waiting to happen. Good luck out there. read more

They always cook my hibachi steak perfectly and the veggies are well cooked, flavorful while still having some bite to them. The ginger and mustard sauces are a must. And their service is always attentive and kind. I always feel welcome there. I will be a repeat customer and may explore the menu a little more, everything I have had is so good from the hibachi steak to the clear mushroom soup which I could eat a gallon of probably, and the salad which was crisp and flavorful. Plus the to go containers can be washed and reused. So that's always a plus as well. And the portions are great I personally tend to need to take the rest Togo, additionally it heats up well especially if you have a wok and a splash of water at the bottom to help keep the moisture in the rice. This would be a great place for a date or celebration of some kind! read more

It is my birthday and I wanted a special sushi experience. I ordered the two for one BMW rolls. M favorite. I told the server to leave off any aoili or sauce. I wanted to have extra ginger and only use the soy sauce on top of my rolls. When the server delivered my order the BMW rolls the rolls had a sauce on top. I asked her to take it back, it was not what I ordered. She pushed the plate back to me and said it did not have dairy but mayonaisse. I said I could not eat it, please take it back. She pushed the plate a third time, and I said, no I want you to take it back. She left and the manager came to my table telling me to eat the sushi with the mayo, I said NO.I had to speak strongly to the manager so he heard me. The manager ordered the chef to make my order. When my husband and I left the restaurant the manager came up to me and began to shame me for my behavior. He said not to return. I will not return. And I will not eat food that will harm me. I am lactose intolerant and am unable to mayo or any kind of food like this. I will not be forced to eat what I am not able to. If you are looking die of sodium overdose or a heart attack, this is the place for you. I came here with the family to celebrate an anniversary. We sat at the grill with several other people. A spread of beef, chicken, shrimp, scallops and other stuff was ordered and I got to watch it all cook right in front of me. By the time it was done, I was afraid for my life. This restaurant knows only three flavors SALT BUTTER SOY SAUCE It does not matter what you order, it going to be cooked with the same exact three things, Salt, Butter, and Soy Sauce. And LOTS of it. Basically, everything were ordered from appetizers to salad dressing was overvdalted. The soup was pretty much Soy Sauce soup. I love soup but could not eat it. I am not saying the food was horrible tasting, but you had better love salt and butter, because that is all they know. Salt and butter are good flavors, but for oriental restaurants to only know two flavors for everything is not normal. It was a surprise for me. Now, I have to honest, the rest of the restaurant is pretty nice. The decor was good, and the service was great. Our servers was fun and lively. Our chef did an okay job but I have seen much better hibachi chefs. But I am not impressed with show. I go to a restaurant for good food. If I want a quality show, I will go to a theater. Personally, this will be my one an only trip to this location. I like spice, and this place does not know what spice is. Butter and salt are core flavors, they are not spice. We are always looking for good Japanese food. Having grown up in the San Francisco Bay Area, we dined a lot on authentic Bay Area Japanese cuisine. We were told by the stylist who cut our hair to give Hayashi a go. We did. Yum!!! It's true we have not tried everything on the menu but for our first lunch at Hayashi we ordered two Bento Boxes. One with teriyaki salmon and the other with teriyaki chicken. Our lunch boxes also included spring rolls, fried rice, California rolls, and a side salad. The portions are large, the food is delicious and the staff is warm, welcoming, helpful, and everyone has a smile. Our lunch price was under $40 and I even had a nice ice cold Sapporo beer! This is one of our go-to spots for date night. I have to preface my review with the fact that we have not experienced the hibachi grill in a few years. When we did experience it last, it was a good experience best I can recall. My husband and I usually sit at the bar for sushi. As far as sushi goes in Lubbock, Hayashi is about as fresh as it gets. They have a long list of specialty rolls, some with a west Texas flare. They have a full-service bar that is horseshoe shaped. One side has the liquor and the other side has the sushi preparation. The bartender was responsible for our service and he did a great job. He actually had to exit the bar and come around to where we were sitting to get to us. We were pretty impressed that with everything going on, he gave us good service. You can also reserve private rooms where you sit on the floor with pads and eat at the near floor level table. The doors to the room can remain open or closed. read more

The atmosphere was great, they had a pretty big bar where you could watch them make sushi and a koi pond in the middle of the restaurant! I had the hibachi chicken and my boyfriend had the samurai roll. We both really enjoyed our food but the chicken did need to have some soy sauce added for a little extra salt. We sat a table rather than a hibachi grill and our service was subpar as the waitress was focusing on the hibachis. This was our only complaint during our first dining experience here. read more
