This review is for their balloon bar and delivery service (they use DoorDash). I had the pleasure of speaking with Monica when I called a couple days in advance to confirm an online balloon order for delivery. She was super helpful and friendly. The overall experience was great! There were some reviews complaining that the balloons would deflate after just a few hours and I was a bit concerned, but the balloons held up pretty well and actually held up for a whole week. To be honest, we didn't need it to hold up that long, as long as it was inflated for the duration of the party, that's all that matters! In terms of the value, for what it's worth, with ordering ahead and being delivered straight to you, I thought it was a great deal! I received some quotes from balloon vendors for the exact same bundle and it was 4xs the price, so Michael's balloon bar worked out just fine for us. Just a couple things to keep in mind: we ordered 4 separate bundles and all 4 were completely tangled together when we received it. Luckily, our amazing friend was able to help quickly untangle them. Not sure how this could have been prevented, but just a heads up in case you need ample time to untangle before your event! Also, when ordering ahead, you have to pick a delivery time window instead of an exact time- this means the balloons can come earlier than expected or at the tail end of the time window. You can try to call and coordinate with the store, which is what I did, but still received it earlier than requested, which was OK. Earlier is better than late in my opinion. Hope this helps! If you need basic helium balloons for an event- I'd totally recommend giving their balloon bar a try. I'd personally place an order again in the future. read more

I came in to browse as usual. I like walking from the beads section to the acrylic paint section, polymer clay, and kit section, then over to the canvas to check prices, and to the holiday section. It's just a nice quiet place to browse art supplies. I came in knowing I wanted to pickup yarn for my "Crochet Kirby Project". I ended up picking the brand Loop and Thread. It had the colors I needed. I really couldn't find velvet plush texture yarn, so Loop and Thread would do. I was just excited to get materials to finally start crocheting. I did buy crochet hooks the last time I was in Michael's, so I walked toward the line for cashier. I don't trust store wifi to work WHEN I need it to. SO, before I walked into the store, I grabbed a coupon from the Michael's app and screenshotted it. There's a 40% coupon code for regular items, so always check the Michael's app before going to the cashier. I walked out of Michael's with yarn I was happy with. read more

Ok so as much as I miss a lot of the real people helping throughout the store , the self checkout is really easy and efficient. I would still prefer a live human any day over using a machine. The store is generally kept clean and decently stocked. Maybe it's that the staff has more time to keep up with the maintenance of the store now with the self checkout stations. The other downside to not having a live person at checkout is that the longtime staff members who were there would make suggestions especially once they got to know you and your hobbies. This is an apology to our customers. Michael's was the store I always went to as a child, bright-eyed and excited with my grandmother to get various items like pipe cleaners, tacky glue, and pretty colorful paper. I loved this store, I loved wandering it, picking out flowers and making arrangements for my family to use to decorate the house. I've worked here a few years now. We have self check outs that break down often, online orders both for pick up and to ship out, framing customers to assist or build frames for, bathrooms/merchandise we have to unlock, and all of the customers in a large store that need customer service. Keeping that in mind, we are given 2-3, maybe 4 staff who work at once as our hours are cut so thin. We aren't closing down, but we've lost all of our staff hours and can't run the place. They just disabled and forced us to cut down price checkers, leaving the staff to price check every item because half of seasonal is missing price tags, and calculating sale prices isn't something customers want to do when there is a price tag. Half of the store has incorrect shelf labels. There's thousands upon thousands of price changes we still have yet to put out. They're dropping more on us week after week when we can't catch up as it is. Then they force enable the price changes whether we have it on the shelf or not, and all of the customers are predictably upset because they scan an item at the register and the price is much higher than they thought. Our staff are losing it. The managers are having nightmares and crying when we go home at night. Cashiers quit because we can't protect them from it no matter how much we try. Customers come up to us and yell at us unprompted. I try my best to give helpful, polite, and patient customer service, just to end up with people angry at me. Not all of the staff even bothers trying that now. I can't even ask that you please call corporate and tell them we lack staff, because they always email us and tell us we are the problem. It always falls back on us. This store isn't closing, but it is falling apart. read more

I have been shopping at this Michael's since even before they moved to the current location, a very long time ago! They helped my grown children with their elementary school projects. I shopped for yarns for an elderly neighbor. I bought lots of craft stuff because in my head it all seemed so simple... Sure I used to finish projects & crafts. Not so much anymore. This store sure has some nice stuff in it though. Pretty baskets the silk flowers are beautiful. Do you like to build models with your kids? They have that too. Jewelry making? This is my go to shop for personal crafting as well as classroom crafting. If you have downloaded the app on your phone, they will keep track of points. When your purchases accumulate, you will get coupons and vouchers for $10, five dollars etc. Also, When you're able to find a sales associate, they are super friendly and eager to help. However, this business has Done with the most corporations are doing which is eliminate an actual person and put a bunch of self checkouts. That is why at this place it's a three star rating because it's SUPER frustrating when you have a $10 voucher you're not able to redeem because they are shortstaffed, and you were forced to do self check out. We were still searching for some Christmas decorations for our newly purchased tree. We did a first run at the Milpitas Michael's location but alas, we waited too long for a second run and they were running out of stock of items. So we decided to try out this location. It's located in the Fremont Hub area, closer to Safeway. So there's a large parking lot. Not very hard to find parking especially during COVID. Albeit, it feels like like this location was smaller in size compared to Milpitas, they at least still had more items to choose from which helped us finish up our tree decorating! I would say, start later in November or early December for the 50% off extra on Christmas decor as there was a lot more selection then. When it's 1-2 weeks out...it's slim pickings! For a Michael's, it's pretty standard. We easily got our stuff and checked out safely and don't forget your coupons as well as get a Michael's Rewards account as you get a voucher after a certain amount spent at the store. Yes...it's not the cheapest items, but there's some kind of charm with this company that I seem to come back for my crafting needs. read more

I am a beader and I always find something good here. I have only ever been once where there was a particular bead I was looking for they did not have The 12 mm cracked quartz. The staff is pleasant, patient and allow me to zone out and be in that bead aisle for hours if I like (while I mentally make bracelets and look for all of the elements). I got 70% off on beads this week and an additional 20% off of the entire purchase. Just WOW. The canvas sales make you want to paint. Lol. So I have been painting as well. Great starter acrylic sets that go in sale frequently. Creating is a necessity and this store has what it takes to satisfy the urge to make something beautiful! Great team in the framing department! I had two very large custom frames done during a big sale and right before Christmas. Despite it being very busy and all the stress from Covid the employees were upbeat, personable, and kept it together. There was a mistake with one of my orders but Christina reached out to me and notified me of the problem and offered a generous remedy before I even came in. It was both very honest and saved me from the disappointment of coming in and being surprised with the problem. I'm not sure that the quality of the frames would have been worth the full non-sale price, but I suppose a 70-inch frame isn't going to be inexpensive anywhere! read more

Another 2 star Yelp review. *sigh* here I go... As a teacher, I love going to Michael's for their supplies and crafts. But this specific spot is a complete joke to the Michael's franchise. Cleanliness: It's disorganized and everything is out of place. Their floors are sticky and I even found dirty paper towels in paint aisle. Let's not mention the bathrooms. Like I understand that bathrooms is the area that lack attention but the bathroom was the worst. No paper towels and the things where they go were all popped open. Looked like a hurricane. Service: we waited 20min and asked twice for help so we can get someone to open the spray paint area and honestly that even took an extra 10min. One worker told me she'd "send someone" and never did. When we did find someone, the guy had the audacity to try and blame us and even went "did you ask for help". Like obviously... At least the check out line was fast. Today I am a fan even though I had to wait over 20 minutes in line. They offered a 60% off coupon for one regular priced item today, between 3pm and closing time. Also, they had a ton of Copic marker colors that I don't own. So was the 25-30 minutes worth the $4.80 savings. I guess so since I walked away smiling. Stopped at Michaels today in the Hub to purchase an item. Went to check out and like many business trying to do business without any human interaction, Michaels is now self checkout. The actual employees that are there will only help you if you are returning something or paying cash. I asked for an actual employee to check me out and she told me "Well I guess I will help you since you are hell bent on making someone help you." I actually started recording her since she was so rude. Told her I could do self check out all day long on Amazon. Obviously I did not purchase the item and left the store. No one should wonder why Amazon has such a robust business. No dealing with rude employees, purchasing from wherever you are and a great delivery model. read more

It's a hit or miss here on customer service. But the last time I was here a few days ago I was looking for "Etching Glass Cream". (Used in Glass to make a frost affect). When I came in, I asked a young gal if she knew where I can find it. She didn't know what it was, so she asking everyone through her intercom. OMG THE ENTIRE CRAFTS STORE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS! I was surprised considering it's a basic crafts item for a crafter like myself. But the young lady was very adamant on helping me find it. So she pulled out her phone, and looked for it in the Michael's App. ( I of course didn't have my phone on me, so I was not able to look it up myself) After a few short minutes, she found it, and there was only one left! GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! ( 5/5) CASHIER (lady in her late 40s or 50s with glasses) : As I mentioned before I didn't have my phone with me, so when I was paying for my Etch Cream ( which was about $45) I told the lady that I don't have my phone on me so I'm unable to access the coupon that I have.. which was 50%off. I asked her if there is any way she can apply the coupon. She said No, and was also not able to hold that item for me. So I had to purchase the item, drive all the way back home, return the item then buy it back all the same night! When it comes to coupons, they are very strict on policy. But when it comes to customer service and wasting time, I don't see why they are unable to apply a coupon especially if anyone can "screenshot" the coupon on their phone. I've been a lifelong Aaron Bros framing customer for 30 years. My most recent experience with Michael's/Aaron Bros at the Fremont Hub was not a positive one. I paid over $200 to get a custom piece wrapped. After it was hung on the wall, I immediately noticed vertical lines. The piece had not been wrapped tightly enough. There were staple holes in the back where it was obvious they had issues getting it wrapped properly. I had lost all confidence and took it elsewhere to be framed. Michael's/Aaron Bros would not refund me nor give me store credit. They've lost a lifelong customer with me. read more

The online service and pick up is super easy and convenient. I needed to pick up some frames for a memorial and was able to order and pick up the frames within 24 hours. The ladies on the phone and pick up were super nice. Easy directions to follow, and the wait was less than 3 minutes. I will definitely opt for this process anytime. read more

Maybe it's just me but I have always thought that any kind of arts and crafts store would always have uncut mats in different colors for people to use to frame their pictures and cut themselves. I don't know what it is about Fremont but we have no complete or professional art store. I went there to Michael's over the weekend in order to buy some purple uncut mats. What they had was basically nothing. It looks like they want the customer to be forced to have their framing person do the work so they can charge you astronomical amounts of money for something that I can do myself. Literally have to go across the bay to find any decent professional art s supply store. This is ridiculous. I don't know how many times I've gone to Michael's hoping to find something and they don't have it. So if anybody was looking for a minimal amount of yarn or a little bit of paint with some paint brushes or plastic flowers to do their weekend warrior artwork stuff I would send them to Michael's. But since they bought out Aaron Brothers many years ago they don't seem to carry anything for the professional artist. When I was shopping at the store, I went to the restroom but it has a sign on the door shows ask team member to help to unlock. So I saw an old guy who wear a store uniform then I asked him the password. He said the password couldn't give out so he'll open it for me. But on the way to the restroom then he start to be rude to me. He kept companies about why I didn't ask some other store team members who nearby the restroom. I told him there weren't anyone nearby when I tried to find a team members. He didn't believe what I said and still keep complaining and told me : see, there's another one, you should ask him to help. And I told him: that person was there either. He still not listen to me and keep complaining. I wasn't feel be treated nice so I didn't say thank you to him when he unlock the restroom door. Then he yells at me twice: you're welcome! I felt be insulted when I just tried to use the restroom in the store. After I used restroom, I didn't have mood to continue shopping. I'm not weak personality personal. But don't feel right to argue with a old guy in the public. Because people might assume that I'm giving that old guy hard time or something. This store has gone downhill consistently in past four years. Staff seem frustrated too; the sale signs are misleading and inventory messy. For example,what they advertise as All Artist Loft buy one get one 50%. Clerk runs it up at full price, explanation it must be the exact thing (which signs don't say), or simply not this item ( though same brand) I told clerk I'd go back to get a second of each item, but I was told my entire order had to be canceled and I'd have to start over... the 10 people in line for the one clerk dissuaded me. Michaels in Fremont Hub has horrible customer service. I waited 10 minutes for my curbside pickup and no one acknowledged me. I had to go inside and pickup my order myself. I dont know why they offer curbside if they aren't going to give me my order. It shouldn't be an option if they aren't going to fulfill it. I went in and told them that I was waiting for so long and they didn't even care. They had the audacity to ask me if I even did the online curbside thing and I did it right when I got there. Even have screenshots of it confirming on my end. It's crazy. Ill go to the Michaels in Milpitas. Remove curbside pickup if you aren't going to acknowledge the people waiting for their paid orders!
