I really have to give this place high kudos, especially for breakfast. It's a quaint and charming little place, always decorated with cute knickknacks. The place really gets delightfully decorated for all the holidays. The food is basic but excellent with fair pricing. It's clean and a very pleasant experience. Really like this place! Wonderful mom n' pop... catfish plate is my favorite but they have many other great dishes. My husband loves the club at lunch and meatloaf plate at dinner. This may sound crazy as they are in middle of Mount Dora and are a diner but they have Mexican food and it is awesome! Authentic taste! We eat there once or twice a month and they never disappoint. Not sure what's up with the bad reviews. Ate here for the first time today. Easily the best restaurant in Eustis. Prices are super reasonable and the food was very tasty. The menu is all over the place in variety of food but it's kind of like a diner in that respect. The decor is weird but who cares? This is Eustis, FL for god's sake. If you want something nicer perhaps you should eat your meals in a nicer town. Anyways, I had the patty melt which was superb and also a taco. The melt was cooked perfectly on buttered toasted rye bread with sautéed onions and Swiss. Damn it was so good I wanted to order another one. Also, you might find this hard to believe but their tacos taste better than any of those so-called "Mexican" restaurants in town and at 99¢ good luck finding anywhere that sells them cheaper. 4 out of 5 stars for slowish service but it was probably only because it was fairly busy when I was there. I would give them a 1 star but there were a few things that saved my review. Here it is, my date and I went there because we heard this was a new location and was a clean and larger diner. She ordered a Patty Melt with onion rings which came out burnt and I ordered the Special Prime Rib, which was to be medium rare, It came out medium and was room temperature. I returned it and the next one was medium rare but it was refrigerator cold, almost had Icey center, and the meat was not cooked on site, it was a prepackaged product from a supplier like Cisco or the like. I know because I spent years selling meat to retailers. Sides were good, mashed potatoes and green beans. The gravy was for sure out of a can but good. Their redemption was they took the meal off the bill and credited the onion rings as well. I may go back someday to try their extensive breakfast menu, I wonder how they could screw up scrambled eggs and bacon. read more

Warning Covid Trap. I have eaten at Haystax 20 times and always liked the food. Typical diner food - Breakfast , lunch and dinner. Decent quality, good taste and great value. I have not eaten there since may due to the lock down. Recently I have started eating out at restaurants that have waitstaff wearing masks and they space out their tables. This past week I walked into Haystax. Not a mask in site and the place was packed. People from different parties sitting next to one another. If you are taking precautions to curtail the spread of the virus then you might want to pass on Haystax until times are better. read more

At first I was a little flummoxed by the breakfast/home cooking/Mexican combo but somehow it all makes sense here at Haystax. I have never had a bad meal here... in fact, I've never even had a bad dish here. The breakfasts are excellent and flavorful, with huge portions and just enough grease and salt to be legit. Lunches feature a few rotating specials and if you stay with them you can't go wrong. But the thing that bowled me over was the smothered, loaded meatloaf - talk about a party in your mouth! Best meatloaf I can ever remember having (and I'm a pretty big meatloaf fan). If you are on a diet or committed to eating healthy, run away. There's cheese, bacon and lots of other stuff that adds up to big flavors. The Haystax is like that comfortable pair of jeans that always fits perfectly every time. I'm committed to working my way through the menu one item at a time. And a final note: when my out-of-town family members visit, this is where I take them for breakfast. read more

Read some reviews on here before I came and thought I would give it a try, needless to say I will not be returning to this place. It's a very cluttered little restaurant,extremely outdated....meaning we're in the month of June and they still have Christmas and Halloween decorations up which goes to show how lazy the owner and staff is. I had a very nice waitress and what I ordered was pancakes which there is a picture of and as you can see they are absolutely huge but what turned me off about it was it looks like somebody threw up on top of my pancakes with those strawberries because they were frozen and they were piping hot and they were just disgusting and mushy...and to top that off my pancakes were raw in the middle... I had to get a second batch which were a little bit better but really I just ate around the middle. My mother on the other hand had french toast and she did enjoy them and she ate the whole plate my mother is 72 and hardly eats so I guess you win some and you lose some but she also stated she would not like to return there either. read more

Great place to get some homemade tasting food. So much better than fast food places. The prices are very reasonable. The staff is friendly and don't have to wait forever for great tasting food. Very dissatisfied with this place. I read the reviews and thought it sounded cute and good. But, my husband's fish was aweful- it looked like it was dropped -all flaked and scrambled looking.
