Well, since my beloved Cafe della Via closed, and sometimes Jimmy D's is a drive I don't feel like making, I decided to give Hazards a second chance. I first went there when Jimmy was handing the restaurant over and he was in the kitchen training the new people on his dishes. I don't know what happened in the translation but we won't be going back. My husband's meatball calzone was decent, but he had to hunt for the meatball. Marinara for dipping was pretty good, albeit a bit sweet. My pesto was almost flavorless. It needed more garlic and walnuts (Jimmy still uses pinenuts in his, and I do understand that they are very, very expensive) and parm and a possible touch of cream. Why there was lemon juice in there is beyond my ability to guess. Gave it a weird flavor and made it really watery. The bread was excellent, but most of the bread in Los Osos is excellent these days anyway. The portions were very generous, and I have leftover pasta that I'm gonna be able to fix up myself, but that's kind of the whole point of going out to dinner. Service was excellent. Our young waiter was very attentive and personable. There is usually nowhere to park over there so I expected the place to be packed but it was 6 o'clock and we were the only people in there, so maybe all this parking is people going to Kuma or La Casita. We stumbled into Hazards by accident when another place in town was closed. But what a great accident. Don't let the rough exterior of the building and the casual, no frills feel of the interior fool you the food here is excellent. We ordered the blistered peppers as a starter. They were delicious. I had a specialty pizza of the evening which was cooked to perfection. The toppings were fresh and perfectly matched. This chef knows her pizza. My wife ate a gf pasta marinara which she loved. The antipasto salad was big enough to split and very tasty . Since that faithful day Hazards has become a regular stop for us. We've come to love the dessert choices. You'll definitely want to save room. Other reviewers have mentioned the noise level. Yes, it can be noisy. So don't go there looking for a quiet romantic get away ...just go there for a really good plate of food and you will be happy. read more

This place is a hidden gem. I've driven by it for years and didn't think much of it, but one night I wanted something different and figured what the hell. Boy was I surprised when I got home with my to go order. I can't put into words how delicious their food is. You can't compare this place to any of its competition in the county, it's litterally in a league of its own. I was blown away tonight on several accounts. The quaint and charming neighborhood vibe, our friendly server (Amanda) and then the exceptional fresh quality of the food. Started with a crisp cold wine and antipasto salad so fresh like it was just picked from the garden. And then the GLUTEN FREE pizza. OH MY!! Now, I've been gluten allergic for 12 years and make my own pizzas, breads and pastries. They're a bit complex but necessary for me. This was THE BEST PIZZA I've had. Period. The attention to quality is apparent, the atmosphere is charming and the staff is having fun. All done with love, and it shows. A definite highlight of a three day vacation. Brava!! read more

Overall a lovely experience. The ambiance, the staff and food were all top notch. Lovely decorations and comfortable, spaced out seating made this a comfortable night out. We enjoyed the caesar salad, meat calzone, and minestrone soup with sides of the fantastic house bread and focaccia bread. Our waitress, Amanda, was very friendly, polite, attentive and courteous. Blown away! Can't believe it took me this long to finally sneak over to Osos to give this place a try. So glad that I finally did. Ordered the Chicken Parmagiana because it's a rule that I must try this at least once if it's on a menu at any restaurant. Best one in the county and yes that means it's better than all of the "fine dining" Italian places that come to mind. Love that this one comes with components of a traditional straightforward version --perfectly breaded chicken, great marinara and just the right amount of melted mozzarella. They take it a step further and add perfectly (lightly) dressed arugula in lemon. Also refreshing that they offer the option to get veggies instead of pasta on the side. We left not a crumb!!!! Scrumptious. Delicious! Yummy! My kids who turn their noses up to most things did not utter a peep of disapproval. If you are a parent you know this is as rare as a unicorn sighting!!!! So what did we eat? And let me start off by saying if we could eat more we would have ordered it all over again. For an appetizer we had the incredible artichoke hearts lightly friend and served with an aioli. (Y'all should sell that aioli I wish I could have brought it home! I would put it on everything!) They we're hot and perfectly crisp. That plate didn't last more than 2 mins on our table. The devil in me, as my grandmother would say, wanted to fib and tell the wonderful server "no" when she asked if we had gotten our artichoke hearts. Yeh I'm telling ya they weren't on the table very long before we made them disappear and someone removed the evidence of their existence. So dinner... the hubs and I split the Caprese salad and the lasagna. Now if I regret anything from this night it was sharing the damn lasagna with said hubs. It was INSANE good! The "gravy" was, I'm just gonna say it, the best I've ever had, next to mine of course. I soooo wanted more and restrained myself in not accidentally poking the hubs with the fork. So GOOD! Daughter #1 had the spaghetti and meatballs. She tends to be a professional in the spaghetti and meatball consuming and gave them a two thumbs up and a "these are really good". Daughter #2 (and no I don't rank my kids, at least not when they are being good) had the penne in a vodka sauce. She had no words other than she felt bad that she left sauce on her plate. LOL Unfortunately, we had not a bit of room for dessert but that will give us reason to head back to Los Osos next time we visit our kiddo in college. Hazards is a Los Osos treasure not to be missed! I'm giving this a 1 star as a courtesy. Should be a zero star. The reviews you are reading are mostly attributable to the former owner Jimmy Bumps. We tried it when new owners took over and it was horrible but we gave it another try this weekend and it was still horrible.small portion of lasagna,(my wife's is better), the sausage mushroom ragu was dry and bland. We asked for coffee and the waitress said they had none but were working on it. What restaurant doesn't offer coffee especially when they push desserts. We will not go back or recommend this to anyone including my dog. read more

onight, it was birthday dinner for my wife. For starters, four of us shared a large Caesar salad and their delicious bread. My wife and my adult daughter shared a cheese calzone. I had a meat calzone (sausage). The grandson went for a 10" pizza with meatballs, pineapple and barbecue sauce. The crust for the calzones and pizza was terrific. The calzones were generously filled with a mix of cheeses, and then the sausage calzone had plenty of meat and veggies along with the cheese. Calzones came with little dishes of their terrific marinara for dipping, and my grandson dipped his pizza in the marinara as well. I brought home almost half of my calzone, and the grandson is having leftover pizza for lunch tomorrow. It was my wife's birthday, so we ordered cannoli for dessert. These are real deal cannoli. Just a few years ago, my wife and I did our own cannoli tour of Boston's North End, and the cannoli at Hazards would have fit right in. Crispy, sweet, cinnamon laced shell freshly filled with sweetened ricotta cheese. They would be middle of the pack in Boston...but were the best I've had in California. I've been to Hazards! Its a great local place. Fresh homemade foods a nice local wine selection and lovely desserts!! Its not just another pizza place although the pizzas are delicious.. my favorite is the gluten free BBQ chicken. I've had the Fettuccine Alfredo, butternut squash ravioli, spaghetti and meatballs and my favorite dish is the Puttanesca with added Shrimp. They also catered to my food allergies which made it a most enjoyable experience!! The appetizers are delightful. Stuffed mushrooms, roasted baby bells, fried Artichokes hearts and garlic bread to name a few. I do always check the specials board for new items but I do love my go to favorites. Grandson loves the spaghetti with marinara. Cesar salad is fine, great house made croutons. The bread is wonderful and even taken up a notch as garlic bread.
