Eggs Benedict with caviar on pancakes
Tanveer K.

Went to this place randomly, our waitress is super friendly , we had good conversations, her name is Tammy, one of the best waitress in my opinion made us feel very comfortable and welcoming, if people come here make sure she is your waitress the best, I ordered the eggs Natasha which is eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, hollandaise sauce, on the bottom is pancake and topped with black caviar, this is a whole different level, the hollandaise sauce is phenomenal and the caviar gives a unique texture to the pallet, toasted bread beautiful, I hope this place doesn't close because they make you feel like family very outgoing and friendly staff

It appears that there's not too many breakfast joints that open up early close to us, so we ventured to North York for some early morning grub. Hazel's is a typical diner with old, dated mismatched furniture with a friendly and efficient hostess/waitress that keeps your coffee cup constantly topped off (diner quality drip coffee). Here's where it breaks the mold: a bold and creative menu that pairs different flavors that you wouldn't expect. THE BEST example was my Eggs Natasha with poached eggs, smoked salmon, on top of pancakes, covered in hollandaise, a dollop of sour cream and topped with a little bit of caviar. Oh my! I ordered this because the description peaked my interest. I was surprised and delighted that the flavors complimented each other so well: salty, sweet and savoury. I thoroughly enjoyed the pancake underneath that was light, fluffy and delicious. It came with a side of home fries that tasted decent but were too soft and missing the crispy edges that I like. Hubby ordered the Hazel Hash: 3 eggs, potato, corn, ground chourico, onions, (bell) peppers, jalapeño served with a side of buttered Texas toast. It was alright, not very spicy at all with a pool of orange grease at the bottom of the plate. They do need to clean up a bit with it's coffee stained menus and a few fruit flies buzzing about. Whoever renovated the wash rooms (looks newer) needs to redecorate the main dining area with some modern furnishings and splashes of color. Would come back if I'm up for an early breakfast.

TPA benny...

I'm so torn in giving this review. I wanted to love this place, especially with how cute it looks and the raving yelp reviews. The meal started off great. The place was packed and our waitress was running around but still attentive. She recommended the TPA Benny to me over the Natasha. Naturally, i went with the recommendation and expected an eggs Benedict with tomato, potato, arugala and asparagus (atypical ingredients for an eggs benedict but hey, I was interested). What I got was a really weird salad to put it nicely. It was a layer of arugula, then 4 slices of tomato, a ring of crispy potato, 5 stalks of really chewy asparagus, and then two poached eggs with hollandaise. The asparagus was so bad I had to spit it out. The hollaindaise was too eggy. But mostly it was just such a weird dish. Maybe if I ordered something different I would've had a different impression of this place but honestly I was very disappointed.

Waiting for a table

This restaurant is known as "Best of 2016". Don't know why it happens to me all the time. Again! Line up at the door at 11:40 am. Waited for about 30 minutes and then I finally got a table for two. My husband and I ordered beverages first. I ordered a glass of grapefruit juice and my husband ordered a cup of coffee. Yes! It's nothing special about these beverages. But the grapefruit juice is freshly squeezed and it tasted sweet. $5 for a glass of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, what a deal! The cream that goes with my husband's coffee is also freshly made. It's not from a package as normally seen in other restaurants and it's smooth. So far, everything is fresh! We also ordered an Egg Natasha to share. There were two small slices of pancake as the bases, then smoked salmon slices on top of the pancakes, followed by two poached eggs with hollandaise sauce and black claviers. Home fries should come on the side but we substituted it with poutine, $2 extra. Also, we ordered smoked beans on the side. Overall, the dish was pretty good. One of the poached eggs was a bit overcooked. Perhaps I was a bit demanding, I was expecting yolk overflowing in liquid form when I sliced on the egg. The other one was perfect though. Other than that, the egg Natasha was good. I could taste honey in the beans and it was great. Poutine was good except the gravy was a bit salty to my taste.

Eggs Florentine with a Rosti (hard poached eggs)

Have been driving by this place many times and decided to check it out for brunch. It was packed, but my pal and I were able to snag a booth. Hazel's is a super clean greasy spoon with menu items perfect for a weekend brunch. Service was excellent; coffee, tea, and water refills came often. Pricing is average, it's definitely not a cheap eat, but you're also not spending a fortune eating here. I had the Eggs Florentine with a Rosti ($2 extra) and a tea ($3 extra) - my bill came to $16. Food was pretty good - then again, I love eggs - can eat at any meal of the day. Good for: breakfast, brunch

Initial impression: no one acknowledged us for a a good 5 minutes before we were seated. One server passed us multiple times and nothing. When we were finally seated, another server was very nice and pleasant and took our order (she later asks us how our meal is during our meal which was nice) The first server disappointingly plops our plates on the table. Didn't ask who's was who and literally just plops it down and leaves. That just left a bad taste in my mouth and although the food was good, I was not happy about this particular server. Anyways, I don't think I will come back here due to poor service. But food otherwise was decent.

There were only a few groups of customers when we arrive, so it was a quiet and relaxed place perfect for chatting. The waitress was friendly as well. The food was with okay but not wowing quality at very reasonable price ($30-$40 per person). For dinner, we ordered Caesar salad and crispy mushroom as appetizers. The salad has very light dressing. The crispy mushroom is flavourful and served with a creamy and spicy sauce. For mains, we tried both the Rigatoni salsiccia and chicken breast pasta. The sausage in Rigatoni salsiccia tastes a bit old and the sauce is spicy. The chicken breast pasta is not bad and is again with lighter flavour. Overall, this is a restaurant I'd consider when I'm looking for simple food and a place good for chatting or spacing out.

Going to work used to involve going south on Bathurst or Dufferin. If I chose to take Bathurst,…read morePaese would be a restaurant that I would pass by. Paese would stick out because going down Bathurst from Vaughan to Allen Rd, there's just no fancy restaurants along the way. For that reason, I've always been curious about Paese. Through coincidence, I had to drop off something to a relative in the area with my older one, which presented me the opportunity to give Paese a try during Summerlicious week. While the value is there purely because of Summerlicious, the quality of food and service is not in sync with the normal prices charged. I'm not saying the service was not polite, but it was definitely not professional enough for a higher end restaurant. I'll share some examples as I go along. The prix fixe courses started with a salmon tartar and my son's deep fried oyster mushroom. Deep fried mushroom is probably not something I would order out, unless it came as a piece from a tempura dish at a Japanese restaurant. I do have to say the mushroom was the best dish out of everything we tried during the evening. The batter was light and although the seasoning was simple, it did its job. Sadly, i couldn't say the same about the vegan lime aioli which tasted like tartar sauce. It just did not pair well with the mushroom. Salmon tartare was disappointing as the taste of capers dominated the whole thing. The whole thing was too sour for my personal taste. Before our starters were done, the server ushered in the main dishes. Why would they do such a thing without asking the patrons? And when the server saw my son's unfinished plate of mushroom, he asked if he can take it away (half of the mushrooms were still there). Wouldn't it make more sense to ask if we are still working on it or whether we preferred it packed away? A critical error that was made was when my son ordered his steak. The server didn't even bother to ask how he would like the steak done. Is it because he's a kid, he doesn't get a choice? Disappointingly the steak came out well done. The salsa verde which we enjoyed salvaged the steak, but I could also tell that they used a significantly inferior piece of meat. The salmon con miele was ok, but it is leaning closer to the overcooked side of the spectrum. There was nothing special about the dish at all. I wouldn't say it would be significantly better than what I can do at home (not that I'm an exceptional cook). Dessert was decent. Nothing jumped off the page. Sticky toffee pudding has never been my cup of tea. So all I can say is, it's too sweet for my liking. The coconut pie is ok. The coconut flavours were mainly engineered from the shredded coconut. All in all, an unmemorable dinner that I definitely wouldn't pay full prices for.

Reservation was easy to setup online, even had text reminders. We got the summerlicious menu. It features a good selection of proteins for many dietary restrictions. All of us thought our dishes were good. I got the trout, husband got the lamb ragu, and little one got pork parmigiano. Service seemed a bit slow, especially to get the desserts out, but overall pleasant. There is at least one stall in the womens washroom where the lock is not aligned, so even putting it into locked position, the door isnt locked. Aside from that, we had a good time.

I was initially worried about the turkey order if it will come out with thick portions of dry, white meat. Fortunately, that was not the case. The turkey was juicy and was complemented well by the gravy and mashed potatoes. The steelhead trout was also good, but just not my favorite out of the 4 dishes we ordered. I would recommend going with the Prix-Fixe menu as it is slightly better value. Just by adding a few more dollars you get an appetizer and a dessert. The Vanilla Panna Cotta and Chocolate Raspberry Tartufo picks we had for dessert was OK. Service we had when we dined was a mix bag. Our waiter was nice and helpful. The food also was served with the complimentary pepper grinding and grating of cheese. The minor gripe I have is the inconsistent and long serving time. Our appetizer was served right away, but our mains arrived much, much later than typical or standard to what I have come to expect from a dine in restaurant. The waiter did come out to acknowledge about the long gap between serving the appetizer and the main. I also remember having to ask for the dessert to already be brought out. Overall, the food was good to great. However, it is a bit pricey. For our group of 4 our bill including tax and tip reached around $160. Our orders included the Lasagna, Pasta arrabiata, a dessert, and two 3-course Prix Fixe menu.
