What I Love It's small and everywhere you look there's some interesting. The property in gorgeous and well kept. The beer is next level. It walks the line between trad and experimental and recipe is engaging. And Dan is friendly and more than willing to bullshit about the product and place. Don't expect uber modern trendy beers. Anyhoo This place is awesome. It's small with full of charm and football fans !! The Upstairs of the barn they turned into a TV / game / lounge room. Darts, Foosball, Old School Nintendo and Vinyl/turntable - they call it a time travel! It's fun !!! Plenty of room upstairs! If you like a smaller more down to earth drinking place Dan is the Man !!! Terri his wife is pretty awesome toooooo ! You can bring your own food for snacks too. It's strictly beer , Coca-Cola, water here !! Decided to try Wild Man Dan's after a couple of hours at the Blue Ridge Tunnel and very glad we did. Terri was incredibly welcoming and helpful as she made a few food recommendations. Food is not sold at the brewery, but you are welcome to bring your own. The place is dog friendly and has both indoor and outdoor seating. The property also houses a bed and breakfast, which is probably a pretty cool experience if we weren't local. My husband enjoyed the Bruggee Goud Sterk (Belgian Gold) while I preferred the Pik Ax (Irish Red Ale). We were both pleased with our selections and the overall vibe of the establishment. Next time we are in the area, we will definitely return. read more

Super friendly small brewing operation on 151. Don't blink or you will miss it. Husband/wife (Dan and Terri) team that runs a great spot. Small batch beers so typically only have about 5 on tap. They have a variety of beers, but I liked the English Brown the best. Inside the tap room is dog friendly. They have an upstairs but we didn't make it there. They don't serve food, but encourage you to patronize other local spots. We grabbed food from the Scratch Kitchen (at Brewing Tree) and brought it back to WildManDan's. This will turn into a regular stop on 151, it will compete with any of the big boys (or girls). read more

Went to WildManDan while traveling on the Brew Ridge Trail - and boy I'm happy we stopped here! At first I thought I was at the wrong place since it looks like someone's house, but the cute WildManDan logo was outside thankfully so I knew I was in the right place. When you enter, it is an authentic and cool atmosphere. The beer keg within the piano was definitely the best part, and the skulls/Packers gear everywhere was "wild". I honestly felt at home since Terri was from Wisconsin originally. I'm from Minnesota and am a Vikings fan, but both Terri and WildManDan were very kind and welcoming so it was okay Terri was a Packers fan! For beer, I ordered the beer flight and had one of each. The Gugie Stout was my favorite. I also bought a shirt, too! Loved this place and am super happy I stopped by. read more

Recently, we booked the Wildman Dan 1870s farmhouse for our family Christmas trip! Due to COVID, Wildman Dan's has switched from the more traditional B&B model (renting individual rooms) to the renting of their entire home. We were able to stay with eight family members - and there was plenty of room for all! The house is also thoroughly sanitized between stays, so there was no concern there. Having the use of the kitchen was also wonderful as we were able to bring our own groceries and supplies. Working with Terri for a catered meal was also as simple as could be - she worked with us to create a "first night" meal of Chicken Fajitas that was perfect for members of our group with dietary restrictions & provided an excellent breakfast for our first morning there. She also had many more meal options to choose from! So, if you don't want to cook - this is an absolutely amazing option to have at your disposal. As for the rooms, each bedroom is well-appointed with comfy beds and linens. The bathrooms are spotless and there are several group spaces where you can socialize and hang out. The dining area has been broken into several smaller eating areas so that guests can keep some distance during meal times. Guests also have access to outside areas such as the fire pit and Terri and Dan were wonderful and kept us stocked with firewood and fire-making supplies. Last but not least, the beer! Dan and Terri supplied a keg of Wildman Dan beer for inside the house - which was delicious (& convenient) AND they also were able to host a beer tasting in the Brew Barn. Inside the brew barn, there is enough space for couples to spread out and still taste beers. We had a great time sampling brews during one night of our stay. If you are looking for a safe place to travel with your "pod," look no further than Wildman Dan's! Terri and Dan are amazing hosts and truly make you feel like you are one of the family. They have thought of some many amazing amenities to provide, and if you are interested in something they don't have listed - they will work with you to make it happen! Beer was disgusting, no other way to put it. Threw most in the grass. No one in my party liked anything we had there. Their no children rule is ridiculous. Their explanation is because of one occurrence of an unsupervised kid almost getting hurt. So now you decide to turn away people with kids? That is dumb and a great way to deter a whole lot of people from coming to your place and trying your crap beer. How about correct the issues that caused it to be unsafe for a child instead of turning away paying customers. We visited many different establishments today and enjoyed them all except this place. I will never visit again and I will make sure that anyone I now that is visiting the area to go anywhere else but this sorry excuse of a brewery. read more

This review is for the brewery/beer. We stopped by on a whim on a Saturday afternoon. Terri was amazingly accommodating to our family (two adults and two kids). We tried a 5oz pour of each of the five beers. They were all amazing-even the styles that I don't typically love! It was hard to pick a favorite. They also have coca-cola in glass bottles and kettle corn popcorn. They also have an awesome game room/lounge area (available for reservations) with darts, foosball, music player, video game console, board games, etc. Overall the vibe was friendly, beer awesome, great service, and cool facility. read more

The perfect weekend in Nelson County!!! I wish that I could give this property more than 5 stars! We couldn't think of a more perfect place to stay in Afton! WildManDan is a short drive to all of the best that Nelson County has to offer - hiking, breweries and vineyards! When we arrived on Friday evening, we were warmly greeted by Terri, the B&B's awesome owner! She gave us a tour of the beautiful farmhouse that dates back to 1870. The farmhouse is right off of 151 - the main road that runs through Nelson. We loved all of the beer-centric décor, the fireplaces and the wrap-around porch with rocking chairs. We really enjoyed sipping a beer in the gazebo with a nice view of the mountains - very relaxing. A true weekend getaway! Location - Right off of 151, WildManDan is less than 3 miles to Blue Mountain Brewery, a 10 minute drive to Devils Backbone, Wild Wolf and Bold Rock. We hiked Crabtree Falls and Spy Rock - approximately a 30 minute drive from the B&B. Breakfast - OMG the food!!! Terri is an amazing chef! We loved that she uses all local ingredients too (we even stopped on our way home to buy the coffee that she served at the B&B). Room - we stayed in the Patagonia room! The bed was so comfortable - a queen sized memory foam mattress that guaranteed a great night's sleep. The room was well decorated with a twist of modern while maintaining the history of the home. No traditional B&B doilies or rickety beds here! Our room also included wireless iPod speakers and a fan that added great white noise for us. Bathroom - we shared a bathroom with the Vienna room (the bathroom is down the hall - not attached to either room). Our friends that we were traveling with for the weekend stayed in Vienna, so sharing a bathroom wasn't an issue for us. Definitely worth the amazing price per night! The bathroom was really clean (and I am a neat freak)! It was well appointed with beer infused shampoo and body-wash! The towels were super soft as well. We are excited to go back this fall and take one of Dan's home brewing classes! We have already booked our next visit. read more

We spent one wonderful Monday night here and highly recommend it. Terri was an extremely friendly host who not only went above and beyond for my allergies in regards to food but also my partners pescatarian diet restrictions. Not only did she make a special meal for us she was so thoughtful about my allergies she purchased soy milk for my morning coffee. She is quite the cook offering fresh local trout, blueberries and watermelon sorbet that was all locally sourced. The grounds are lovely and well kept, they brew two types of beer on site and I really enjoyed the dark beer. We were also permitted to bring our Shihtzu which we know is asking a lot in most B&B's however Terri graciously gave him a chance and even had a food and water bowl waiting for him. Sebastian was on his best behavior and was invited back. While we weren't in town for but a night and the rain prevented us from enjoying the hammock fire area we did enjoy the wrap around porch that was filled with rocking chairs in the evening. read more

Staying in the cottage on Terri and Dan's property was the highlight of our vacation! They are both so kind and personable, and the food is out of this world! We came to see the original home of Earl Hamner/John Boy Walton. Wild Man Dan's was only about 25 beautiful minutes away. Little did we know that we would be in the middle of a county of breweries, distilleries, and wineries along with fabulous entertainment. Labor Day Weekend 2016 . . . we first stayed with Dan and Terri Labor Day weekend 2015 and we have already booked Labor Day Weekend 2017!! In the first year we have visited WildManDan's 5 times, yes, 5 times!! We love this B&B so much and always have a fabulous time and hate leaving our friends!! We enjoyed our first experience so much I think if Terri and Dan had 12 rooms I could fill those and more, every time we go we take more friends and they love it too!!! We love this B&B, so much so my husband asked if we could buy a time share! Besides everything being just spot on and Terri and Dan doing such a great job catering to everyone's needs this is truly a comfortable place to spend time and they both do a great job making you really feel at home!! When we arrive we walk into not a "place we are staying" but into a "home of friends"!! Upon arrival you get to try the new beer Dan the "master brewer" has been perfecting . . . no wonder the men love this place as much as the gals, who wouldn't love going somewhere you can learn how to brew beer and join in the fun!! I am repeating things from a previous post but Terri is a fabulous chef and breakfast is just amazing! This time we had mountain trout one day and a spin-off of eggs benedict (but Terri's version is so much better!!) on the second day and both were simply fabulous and I don't even really like fish!! On other trips we have had chicken and waffles, apple bourbon sorbet, BBQ stack that was unbelievable and much, much more!! Believe me you don't leave there hungry in the mornings and everything we have ever had was beyond fabulous! From the biggest details to the smallest and Terri and Dan have you covered! The beds are all so comfy that none of us wanted to get up in the morning but we couldn't miss that breakfast!! And after our trip we all ordered sets of the sheets and towels that are used. I could go on and on but do yourself a favor and just GO!!! From a girls weekend (that may be our next trip!) to a romantic weekend for 2, a couples weekend enjoying the wineries, breweries and distilleries along Nelson 151, or a motorcycle trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway you can't go wrong staying at WildManDan's B&B!!! read more

What an amazing weekend we had at wild-man Dans b&b! If you've ever stayed in a bed and breakfast before you're familiar with the routine. Tip toeing down the hall way to your room, the slightly awkward conversation with the other guests who most often times remain strangers. The continental style quick/easy breakfast provided each morning, the friendly but distant hosts and the museum like decor... Well take everything you know about bed and breakfasts and flip it 180 degrees and you've got the one of a kind b&b that is "Wildman Dans Beer Centric B&B". When Terri, the host, greeted us with a big hug upon our arrival we knew this would be different. She told us to make ourselves at home and poured us a beer freshly brewed on site by her husband, Wildman Dan (in awesome Wildman Dan taster glasses!). The beer was cold and delicious and we started talking like we were old friends! Terri gave us a tour of her amazingly beautiful and homey farm house and made sure we had all we needed. She recommend a spot for dinner and told us she'd be out by the fire pit upon our return if we wanted to join. After we finished dinner around the corner (by the way there are some immensely awesome restaurants and breweries almost walking distance from the house), we threw on some hoodies and met Terri and another family staying at the house by the fire and chatted and laughed for a bit before heading to bed and getting one of the best night sleeps we've ever had while away from home. The bed was a memory foam king sized bed that we could have stayed in all day...but we were quick to jump up out of bed the next morning in anticipation of trying out one of Terri's famous breakfasts...were not talking scrabbled eggs. How about instead a starter of freshly baked rhubarb (from the garden) pie followed by roasted poblano and corn waffles with grilled maple peaches, ricotta whip and sausage links. Yes, you read all of that correctly! Everything was locally sourced and prepared (and severed) fresh by Terri and the wild man. The food was a show stopper and hands down the best breakfast we've ever had from anywhere ever. Local, fresh and absolutely prepared with love. My husband and I happened to be in town for Lockn festival a few towns over in Arrington. A few of the other guests staying at Wildman Dans were also there for the 4 day festival. As if Terri's breakfasts, Wildman Dan's homebrew, the accommodations and the hospitality weren't enough, Terri and her heart of gold offered to drive us to and from the festival each day!! It just goes to show you what an amazing person Terri is. We had one of the best get aways imaginable and it was largely in part because of Terri and Dan. Since returning back home to PA, we've kept in contact with Terri and Dan. They are some of the finest folks we've ever had the pleasure to hang with for four days and are hands down the most complimentary power couple ever. This was my first B&B experience, and I'm afraid that I have ruined it for myself because I don't think there is a better place anywhere! Terri and Dan were warm and welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable. The food was fantastic! Virginia is a beautiful place, but we had the most fun hanging around the campfire with Terri, Dan, Choco Taco (thier dog), and the rest of the house guests.
