This group of professionals from registration, to MD, NP, RN, and lab could give a seminar on how to provide excellence in care to Free Standing and hospital based ER's. Its the standard others should strive for none less. After they got testing back with her permission they told us we were at risk, due to the type infection and our exposure to her sickness. We were tested and prescribed prophylaxis as recommended by CDC which checked the box for standards of care as well. Healthcare treatment is a choice and as an Registered Nurse myself working over 40 plus years in critical care and ED sometimes your experience is far less than desired or standards of care. Today as a family we were lucky to choose Rice Emergency Room. We are from out of town just blindly walked in but if I lived in Houston Rice ED would be my first choice for care. But when people really need the best care, they come to Houston from everywhere in the world. I was diagnosed with lung cancer and had a robotic assisted surgery which took half of my left lung and I was alert conscious and feeling good just a few hours after the 5-hour procedure. because Dr. Kim used robots so the incisions were small, and my recovery was quick. I was sent home the next day. One day stay for major surgery! The timeliness of care was excellent. it was 2 weeks from referral to meet with the surgeon and two additional weeks to schedule the procedure, so I was essentially cured of my cancer within one month. this compares very favorably to the other cancer hospital next foor, which has a waiting list. to summarize, I had a great surgeon, a state-of-the-art operating room, competent nurses and everyone had a good attitude. really couldn't be better.

Did not provide appropriate care or explain a path for addressing the health concerns. Left with no diagnose or assurance that proper treatment was given. Had to visit another ER two days later to have all boxes checked, which has always given quality care to my family through the years. At Fondren ER, equipment wasn't working to rule out possible virus. Wanted to do a ct-scan yet didn't offer a blood test first to see if it was necessary. A blood test was given after request to ensure a ct-scan was needed but information was given to the daughter boyfriend and not to my daughter direct from Dr on duty. An IV port was put in for 5 hours, with no medicine or IV given. No EKG given even though the complaint was chest pain and tightness. Dr did not thoroughly rule out anything through proper sequential protocol of tests. Very disappointed in the lack of care and health services and working diagnostic equipment available. I have since read multiple reviews that this ER has consistently had these issues of nonworking diagnostic equipment available and poor health service. Know before you go is my warning!

Day of surgery: April 9, 2026 Surgery: Belly Button Hernia…read more When I first met with Dr Paul James, I was told for my belly button hernia I was going to get clued up no stitches and a mesh would be placed to cover the hole. The day of surgery once again I was told by Dr Paul James and the nurses the sam thing no stitches and I'm getting glued up with the mesh. I get out of surgery I didn't get explained anything. I wasn't told how to take care of the wound. After a week I took off the bandage and I found that there was a piece of wire sticking out of my belly button. Weeks past and it was still there, I decided to follow up with Dr Paul James. When I went he told me that he decided to not use the mesh and decided to use stitches, but stitches that were placed inside me not on the outside of my belly button. He didn't want to give a reason why the game plan changed and why I wasn't told. I have called Dr Paul James' office 5 times and still haven't gotten explained why he changed the original plan I was told for surgery which was no stitches and I'm getting glued up with mesh covering the hole. Almost 2 months later and I still don't have an answer. The day of surgery I told the nurses that I am scared of needles. Most of the time after making that statement the nurses are more focus on me being calm and relax because they know this situation stresses me out. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case at this hospital. The anesthesiologist that it was funny to pretend that he was going to put a needle into my check to put me to sleep before surgery. I will say I truly didn't appreciate that, it made me feel very uncomfortable. While he kept doing it and pretending to put the needle in my neck, I told him to stop multiple times. I was greeted with smiles and quickly and convienently checked in online. I was escorted to a private waiting room for females since I had to change into a gown. It was very small and cramped. Tv remote had to be switched out because that wasn't working the first hour. The sleep sofa was in an odd space. But once I delivered I was moved to a recovery room in the jones building. The room was much nicer, but small. The limit is four guest but to be honest that's too much. I also love the celebration menu for the new parents. Steak, lobster Mac and cheese, spinach and key lime cheese cake. A very good reward after not being on a clear liquid diet for two days.

Recovering from a procedure of that magnitude requires attentive monitoring and compassionate care. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I was shuffled around for a room and then placed in a very small room and often felt largely left on my own during my stay. The staff was poorly equipped to handle my recovery. The lack of knowledge was infuriating. They would crush time released medications and I was told if I didn't take it then I would have to stay in pain. (My mouth was wired shut and it was like battery acid with the syringe. They didn't care.) There were long periods where I struggled to get assistance, and the level of attentiveness from staff did not reflect the seriousness of my condition. I would consider the care here unethical and inhumane. I also observed that my room was not cleaned consistently during my stay, which is alarming for a surgical patient where infection prevention should be a priority. What troubled me most was the lack of compassion and responsiveness from most members of the staff. After undergoing such a major operation, patients should feel supported and cared for. Instead, I frequently felt like an inconvenience rather than someone recovering from extensive surgery. Hospitals should be places where patients feel safe and supported during their stay. I hope the administration takes feedback like this seriously and works to improve the quality of care provided to not only surgical patients but all patients. You can tell who's there for just a paycheck.
