I had chili on mine, I think the chili didn't really add anything and I wished I had made a different choice. The French fries were good. I would guess that the worker was stoned as were most of the customers. He did wear gloves and I guess making hot dogs isn't that difficult. read more

We drove up from Kansas City to Breckenridge and this tavern was right by our condo. We all ordered our first beers me and my friends and ordered our food. The owner was so mean and rude while we were ordering and to top it all off one of my friends fainted and just fell backwards off his seat because of altitude sickness and made a little bit of a mess. While we were trying to clean up and explain to him that we just drove up from Kansas City and those were our first beers, he kept telling us to get out after we clean it up. He also kept saying that he doesnt know what weve been drinking or doing before this even after we had just explained that it was our first beers and we had just gotten into town. The least he could do was ask about my friend who looked green and had just passed out in his bar, but instead he kicked us out and was extremely disrespectful. Food was decent but not good enough for him to act a prick. I advise you find a different tavern. read more

He offered us our food as it came out, which was kind of slow because it was just him and there were other people there too. The food was all cooked perfectly. Everything we ordered was delicious. There are only two places I eat a Chicago Style Hotdog. When I'm in Chicago and when I'm in Breck at the Hungry Dog. Brad and his crew have created a very laid back environment to relax in, enjoy some great food and he does it for a great price, right there on main street. A lot of the bars and restaurants on main street offer very similar menus. Not at the Hungry Dog. If you are ready for something good, different, relaxing and authentic drop into the Hungry Dog. Poor service, poor food! I read the other reviews and had to check and make sure we were talking about the same place. There was nobody in the place when we walked in. We ordered food for six people and they acted like it was a major rush. We ordered three chicken baskets, but got two - and they were overcooked. The rest of the order was a burger, a steamboat elk sausage and a sloppy dog. The burger and sweet potato fries were okay, but the dogs were not. The sloppy dog had so much mustard on it that it gagged me. The elk sausage wasn't any better, and the sodas are cans you grab out of a cooler. The ticket was $43. I don't call that easy on the pocket, and as someone who's had a Chicago style dog, it's not even close. "Eek! Methinksnot"!!! There's a lot of great options in Breckenridge. We went in for a quick snack, and we were less than impressed. We ordered a veggie dog, a $5 side of Mac n cheese, and a pickle. The cashier was nice enough, until she asked me if I wanted my change back, basically implying that she expected a tip for pushing a few buttons to ring me up. I work in the restaurant industry and I am aware of when it is necessary to tip....This made for an AWKWARD situation. We were the only customers waiting on food, and finally got it, 20+ long minutes later. The condiments on our table were old and empty. I had to go find some more, which is not that big of a deal, but the Frank's Hot Sauce that was given to me was missing a lid, and crusty and just gross. Maybe I would have gotten a clean one if I left my change?? After all of the hassle of waiting forever and finally getting our measly hot dog and side order, and then hunting for condiments so we could eat them, we never got the $2.50 pickle that we paid for. At the end of the day, it was overpriced, dirty, and too much of a hassle. For all the work I had to do to sit down and eat our small snack, I felt like the cashier should be tipping me. I will start this review by saying that we were in Breck for Fourth of July, so all the restaurants were busy and this place was no exception. I ordered our food to go so we could sit outside and not fill all their tables. Our order was written on a torn piece of paper, I paid, asked how long the wait would be (30minutes, she said) and I went outside to wait with my kids and our friends. An hour later my husband finally brought our order out, minus three drinks, three orders of fries, a hot dog, and a burger. When I went back in to kindly ask for the rest of order the woman at the register took my receipt, crumbled it, threw it in the trash and told me I could go. I walked back to the guy at the cook top and he explained that they had blown the circuits twice that day and their cooktops and fryers weren't working. He apologized and said he would fill our order and offered to refund the burger and dog. We eventually received all of our food except the one dog and the food was mediocre at best. We went to another restaurant for dinner and we again had to wait a very long time for our food, but the wait staff brought us appetizers to ride is over and was very apologetic. A little bit of kindness goes a long way with me. I do understand that they were busy and they were having technical difficulty, but the rudeness of the person taking our order was completely out of line. read more
